Today in the lunch room, one of my staff members started a conversation with "so I just think it's important you know this" and I was all OMG WHAT IS SHE GOING TO TELL ME?!? She said, "when you ran the meeting yesterday the group in the back was saying how noticeable your weight loss is and I think it's really important you hear that cause sometimes when we're losing weight we don't always know it's noticeable"

8 years ago I told an almost stranger (I saw her every week outside DDs ballet, but didn't know her at all) that she really needed to buy some new jeans cause she'd lost loads of weight but obviously didn't realise how much. A few months ago I met her again, she thanked me again and said it lifted her out of a slump!

I had a work meeting on Tuesday which included lunch. Normally, lunch is my first meal of the day, but knowing what was going to be provided was carbage, I figured I would eat breakfast and be good until dinner. Sure enough, they ordered pizza. The meeting was with people from multiple cities, but some of whom I have worked with for years. They were amazed to see me fully functioning all through the working lunch without touching any food or being hangry. These same people have seen me in the past down a full pizza by myself and then be disappointed because there wasn't more. Needless to say, they were shocked.
That morning at the hotel, I did get some strange looks from other guests as I put a pat of butter in my coffee as I was eating my bacon, eggs and sausage. One woman really looked at my plate longingly as she ate her dry toast clearly thinking that was how she was going to lose weight.8 -
Also, while on the trip this week, I met a new person in the office who is pre-diabetic with a diabetic mom. Had a very short conversation with her and not even sure how the topic came up.
Anyway, she was frustrated because of her own struggles (guessing she was maybe in her 30's, so not old) and how poorly her mom is doing. I mentioned all the research I have done over the last several months and the changes I have made and have seen the success of so many others and she was shocked. Her mom's doc is old school of "here's your medicine and if your BG gets to low, eat some sugar."
This was within a few minutes of when I had to leave so she asked me to email her. I sent her an email this morning with some links (many of which you have all seen) to get her started. She has just started going through these, but it will take her a while. I did not try to convince her of anything. I let her know I would just give her the facts/links to the facts and if she decides to give it a shot to let me know so I can give her the info she needs since it is not as simple as just cutting carbs.
Based on the response so far, I would be shocked if she doesn't go low carb if not keto. I love seeing the light bulb go off over people's heads when they "get it."10 -

I'm a breast cancer survivor, so I've always purchased my bras through a local medical supply company. And they're ugly. They're what we used to call "lunch lady bras" - 4 rows of hooks and enough fabric to make a tent (even though I'm not really that big!)
I went to Target and found some very pretty bras in my new smaller size. I haven't bought off the rack since 2010!
I know you must have really enjoyed that shopping trip. I just had some smaller ones in my storage chest, so new ones, but they seem new, haven't worn them in almost 10 years.
Love the lunch lady bra comment, too.3 -
Best NSV ever. I was all set to change my dr. if she gave me any grief about eating LCHF.
Nope, she congratulated me on my weight loss, moving out of the obese level of BMI, and she said I looked leaner. Also happy about my in-office BP number being much lower than usual, I always test higher in the office than at home, driving, knowing a needle is going into my arm and all the other stress factors showed up in the office. At home, I rarely see over 129/90, usually a good deal better, I have even emailed her daily readings so she was aware being over 140 is RARE for me.
I told her bacon, eggs, steak and lamb are common in my diet now, along with butter. She said "Just don't eat starchy carbs with those, what you are doing is working very well for you, keep it up, I expect your lipo panel to show good results too." We then talked about how if all other risk factors a not high, she doesn't care what my total CHOL number is, she had noticed my trend for HDL (going higher) and Tri ratio (going lower) to be excellent, so she doesn't care about the LDL and won't unless something changes dramatically.
They also have a new office scale, I weighed at home with my clothes on, and then compared it to the new scale there, they read the same, exactly the same. So there goes my excuse to by a new scale, my old one is still right on.
One of the best dr. visits every. She had been promoting the Mediterranean diet on my last visit. She said she has come to realize not everyone handles carbs the same, some need much lower levels. She just cautioned me to keep protein moderate. And except for my 1/2 lb all beef burger for lunch I do. I had fasted through breakfast, so broke a 17 hr. fast with that naked burger.15 -
Sorry if it's TMI, but my DH broke out last night with "Nooooooooo! They're getting smaller!" He might not like it but I'm relieved!7

Someone didn't recognize me today. Sure, I had a full beard when last she saw me, but I was also ~70lbs bigger. I'll take it.12

I just had surgery and I wasn't able to walk around school (I'm a teacher) alot because of pain. Well, since, I lost some weight, I am able to walk around alot more. Yesterday was the most I've walked around the school in a long time.12

@rugged1529 I find I am moving much more as well as my pain level keeps dropping with my new way of eating. It seems like the body, mind and spirit are all tied together so when any one becomes more healthy so do the other two.5

I am pretty pleased with my results, I was afraid the weight I had lost would make the Tri and LDL worse, but Tri is fantastic now and LDL went down, just slightly. Oh my, the HDL number has me over the moon, I had really struggled with getting that to the mid 50s before, now it went to mid 60s. Pass me another slice of that steak please. And Lettuce is the New Bread!!12 -
So last night my hubby and son bake these Oreo churros (from frozen food section). They are both going on and on about how good they are, not too sweet, I need to try one, etc. I cut off a tiny piece and gagged! It tasted so...artificial! Seriously like sugar flavored cardboard. No need for me to try junk food or wonder what I'm missing anymore!8

This morning I went out to a get-together and saw some old friends I haven't seen in years. One of them said I looked skinny! I'm far from it lol but it was a pleasant surprise -- and possibly the first time I've been called that in 40+ years.

On Sat., I bought a new pair of jeans. I figured I would have more and more difficulty finding jeans in my size as I lose the rest of my weight. I'm short, so there has always been a challenge. I can fit 30" long jeans, which are a bit long, but not so bad that I'm walking on them. For my entire adult life, I've had trouble finding pants because I'm so short. Apparently, most short men must be very heavy because I often find 30" long with 40"-50" waist sizes... even at my heaviest, I was never that big around. So it was always difficult, but it is starting to get close to impossible.
While I was at Target on Sat., I noticed there were some pair on the shelf size 30x30. I know my 32's (waist) are too big, and I figure I'll end somewhere around 28 by the time I'm done losing. Tried on the 30x30 and the waist and length are both right. I bought them despite that there is still one area that is really tight - legs.
It used to be that I couldn't find jeans because I wasn't fat enough. Now, even when I find jeans that fit for waist and length, my leg muscles are so big that the legs are tight. I just hope these stretch so they are more comfortable. I'm going to call this an NSV despite that it is creating more trouble for me.13 -

Welcome to the world I have always lived in, pants too long because I am short, and I have big b**bs, so shirts that fit elsewhere gape open across my chest, I have narrow shoulders and my rib cage area is smallish. If I buy something that fits the b**bs, I look like I am drowning in all that extra material.
At least as you continue to lose weight the legs will fit better. Besides, tight jean legs are stylish with the hipster set these days. You have a wonderful problem to deal with now.2 -

No, I don't think the legs will actually fit better as I continue to lose. I don't have a whole lot of fat on my legs, they are just incredibly muscular. I have about 5-7 lbs. of fat left to lose in order to reach my goal of 10% BF (estimated at this point - more accurate data next month when I do a Dexa). It looks like all of that fat is in my belly, so I could potentially end up with around 28" waist when I finally reach my fat goal. However, most of my activity is legs - running, trail running, hiking, back-packing - and my legs are apparently too muscular in proportion to my waist already. I expect that disproportion to become bigger, not smaller.2 -
@retirehappy - worth investing in some tailoring, methinks...or making a sewing dummy (t-shirt on you, form fitting duct tape wrapped to create solid mold of your body) to fit all your shirts yourself...3

Haha @retirehappy I feel your pain! But my NSV of the day is that today I'm wearing a very cute jumper from the misses department at Target, size L! This is a big deal to me because my bajungas (aka boobs) are out of porportion to the rest of me lol and I can never find stuff that fits on the top and bottom. I am so happy at my look today and I encourage you to check out Target5

@Genmon00 I only own one dress because of this issue. I did just get rid of all my XL shirts, I'm back in my Ls. Only if a M is extremely over sized can I wear one of those.
If I do buy a classic blouse, which now that I am retired I don't think I will be needing, I would have some tailoring done. For now I will just buy Ls, too.4 -
I have the opposite problem with jeans, I'm a 3, but with a 35" inseam...wallflower brand of womens jeans, you can buy them by inseam length like guys jeans which is amazing...kohls sells them and so does amazon - love getting jeans in a specific size and length2

I bought a dress that wasn't in season because it fit beautifully and I assumed in a few weeks weather would be perfect for it. Well a few weeks turned into almost a month before I wore it and it's a little on the lose side now. It's a beautiful dress so I'm planning to tailor it down even though it wasn't expensive, I'm not willing to give it up yet!7

Yep, my problem exactly.... same inseam (although preferring 36" for a bit more length while in my heels... thank you Wrangler) and when at my happy weight 2 or 4. Right now in my fat sz 6's - I've been eating too many carbs and not paying attention. 14 pairs of assorted jeans are just waiting for me to fit back into them... right now I only have 2 jeans and one pair of cords fitting back on the wagon now though.

Great problem to have. I hear you on not willing to give it up, my dress I found at a cosignment shop ages ago. At the time I fit into it. I'm happy I can wear it again. Luckily I don't go many places where separates are not welcomed.2 -
A girlfriend cleaned out her closet and handed me down a bunch of size 14 and 12 clothing. I've been an 18/16 for years. I reluctantly tried things on, and the 14 fit! The 12 will fit soon. I don't think I've lost much weight (I don't take measurements), but clearly I have!11
