I only gave her that much protein so she would eat SOMETHING. Today she's on her regular food, and ate up her breakfast right nicely. I brought it to her so she could continue to rest.

Howdy all y'all. It's satisfying Saturday! It's 60 degrees out there but on the cool side of that, with a "feels like" temperature of 52. We are expecting a partly sunny high of 74 this afternoon.

Lilo is getting around much better this morning. She is managing to make it up AND down her kitty stairs to the table next to my desk. She stumbled going down, but that was not surprising. Since I had set up a railing using a cardboard box, she didn't fall off as she would have without it. She is walking a bit oddly, but hopefully, if it is just a sprain, she will continue to improve. I will keep an eye on that, you may be sure, and a vet consultation regarding it may be in the books.

When she went down the kitty steps, she headed right to the master bedroom to wait for food, and I made up her bowl of canned breakfast food right away, about an hour early, as I am still treating her like the little queen she is. I did put it in her regular eating place in the master bathroom though, to start getting her back to normal on that. I kept her kibble right next to her yesterday, but I think I can leave it in the usual spot too, as it might be good for her to practice her walking around a bit, but not too much.

She is currently back up on the table, laying on her warming pad there, and taking a very important nap.

I have nothing critical on the agenda today, so I will be able to keep an eye on Lilo.

    Good morning.
I'm glad Lilo's doing a little better, Ed.
It's rainy here. Currently 43 with a high of 57 expected. I think I'll start some cooking for tomorrow. Need to go out and pick up a few things. We'll be having brunch at my daughter's house for mother's day, and I'm going to make a frittata and a carrot cake. I can make the vegetables for the frittata today, and the carrot cake tonight. Then I won't have too much to do in the morning.
    Happy Saturday, everyone.

    Happy Mother's day!
Ed-Sorry to hear about Lilo's troubles. I hope she is feeling better today.
We are going to grill for the first time this year. It is supposed to get up to 65 so maybe it will be warm enough to eat outside.
There was a large tom turkey walking across the road with his tail feathers all splayed out on my way to work yesterday.
We are having drama again at work. I can't wait to retire. I am going to start looking into my options.
    Enjoy your day! :)

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday! Happy Mothers Day!

Lilo is still feeling wobbly and is mostly resting and we are still waiting on the results from the urine culture, so she is not getting any treatment right now for that UTI, so I know she is still hurting. But she is eating and drinking and doing all the things that result from eating and drinking, so we are still hoping for the best. She can walk, but doesn't choose to very much, which is fine. I can bring her food and we have a water bowl set right next to her favorite resting spot so she doesn't have to go anywhere to get it.

Realistically, Lilo is 18 years and 3 months old. I have to accept that this could be the endgame, but she has fooled us before and may again. And she actually had to be brought back from the other side several years ago, when she had a bad reaction to the gas during an attempted teeth cleaning session. Her heart stopped for several minutes but they were able to revive her, with no apparent brain damage. Needless to say, we decided that her teeth would just have to get on without that, and we give her crunchy dental treats to clean them as best we can at home.

Again I have nothing critical on the agenda so I can focus on keeping an eye on Lilo.

    Good morning.
We had a really nice Mother's Day. We're all fully vaccinated now, and it was great to not have to wear masks.
Ed, sending healing thoughts for Lilo, and hugs for you.
Jo, cool that there was a turkey walking across the road. I've only seen them occasionally here, and it's been in the woods. I suppose hunters may get most of them. Still a lot of country folk here.
It's currently 50, windy, and mostly cloudy with a high of 65 expected. I have an appt with my GP for a pre-op exam this morning.
Will see what else the day brings.
Another new week, wishing everyone a good one.

Howdy all y'all. It's marvelous Monday! It's a rainy 62 out there now, with an expected high of 74, and more rain likely, with the possibility of thundershowers.

Lilo is maintaining. She can get around, though not well. Last night she left the master bedroom and went all the way to the living room because she thought J might have some cereal and would give her some milk. And she got her milk, I think.

This morning I found her on the table next to my desk. It can't have been easy for Lilo to get up those kitty stairs to climb on the table, but there is a nice, warm, flat little computer she likes to lay on, and she knows I will be at my desk in the mornings. She has always been a very willful cat. I also keep a glass of water at the other end of the table for her.

Yesterday I brought her breakfast to the table and she ate it there, and I expect to do the same today, unless she shows a great desire to have it in the master bathroom with the other cats.

I have already taken her to my mad scientist laboratory...er, I mean the laundry room, for her Monday morning fluid treatment.

Still waiting on the results from the urine culture. Maybe today.

Howdy all y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! 60 partly cloudy degrees out there now, with an expected high of 76 under partly sunny skies. There is some chance of rain.

Nothing critical on the agenda today. Lilo continues to maintain about the same. Hoping for news from the vet today, so we can hopefully schedule a visit for treatment of the UTI, and assessment of the rest.

We have an appointment for Lilo at noon today. She is not wanting to walk at all, and is refusing food. There is also some blood on her stool (fresh blood). And she isn't wanting to drink much.

The urine culture results are in, but at this point they may be academic, as, depending on the prognosis regarding her ability to walk, and the blood issue, we have placed euthanasia on the table for discussion. If they can't improve her quality of life to the point where she will want to live, then it is time to let her go.

I am a mess. I don't know what I need. I need for Lilo to be OK and that doesn't look like it's going to happen this time.

    Update.

She seems to be sinking fast. a little less than an hour til our appointment, but I think the decision is made now, even without input from the vet.

I am holding her until we go there in about an hour...

Howdy all y'all. It's wet Wednesday! 62 and rainy out there now, with an expected high of...62, with rain. So I guess no change at all today.

I have some cleaning up and such in the house. We are getting ready for the visit from a friend, who is arriving Friday and staying a week. I am feeling a bit numb right now, and wish I could have got back to sleep when I woke up before 5:00. But it's a rainy day. Maybe I can get a nap in. And maybe the cup of coffee after my tea will have me feeling a bit more alive.

Our friend has a few plans for fun things while here, attending a Ren Faire, and a dinner and show at Medieval Times so some of that will help distract me.

I just need time to get over Lilo.

Dinah is already starting to settle in as the new queen.

Ed-I am sorry for your loss.Hugs!
Vix-When is your surgery? I can retire in a year and 9 months to get full social security. If I want a lesser amount I could retire near the end of this year. I am researching all options.
    Irene-congratulations on your new shed.

    Good morning.
Ed, it does sound like a good day for a nap and being kind to yourself. Your friend coming might be a good distraction.
Jo, time seems to go fast once you decide when to retire. Good to do your research. My surgery is 5/24, getting close now. My preop appt with the surgeon is this morning.
It's currently 47 and sunny with a high of 65 expected today with a few clouds later. Warming into the 70s for the weekend.
    Happy Wednesday, everyone.

Well, I spent some energy to lower my anxiety, and it seems to have worked at least a bit. I ordered groceries, and put those away when delivered, and made same changes to the box fort for the cats, adding a new, hopefully fun pass-through, and removing a box that was only meant to be temporary anyway, and one that was not used much.

    Here is the new addition.

Howdy all y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! It's a chilly, but sunny 44 degrees out there now. I stepped out for some fresh air for a minute.

We are expecting a high of only 69 today under mostly sunny skies.

It's still difficult, without Lilo, but I, and all the rest of us, will gradually adjust to the emptiness where she used to be.

Dinah hasn't yet fully realized that she is now the queen, though she had been angling for the position for months, possibly sensing the decline in Lilo.

I have only seen Kiara exploring the changes to the cardboard box fort so far, but we haven't been spending a lot of time in the living room as J has been overloaded with work, up late every night, and in fact didn't get to bed until nearly 5:30 this morning. About then I realized I was not going to get back to sleep so I got up and started on breakfast. With J working late, I have been spending more time at my computer, and cleaning things up for our impending visit. The house is mostly ready now, but I am sure there will be a little last minute stuff on Friday.

The cats sometimes play in the living room without either of us in there, but are much more likely to be in there if at least one of us is, and more so if both of us are.

Orion loves to lurk under his packing paper and jump out at other cats, and Kiara loves to bat at him when he is under there. Dinah is not quite as fond of that game, but does sometimes play chase with Orion, but then gets disturbed if he plays a little rough.

At least the forecast shows fairly nice weather expectations for the duration of the visit, but I know the extended forecasts can be rather unreliable. I just may have to get outside a bit more today, though the grass pollen is high in the area, and that may affect my sinus.

Well, this coffee mug is nearly empty and I need to get into finding my funnies for the morning.

    Good morning.
Ed, the newly designed cat box looks like a little stage with curtains. I think the cats will like it once they see how cool it is. ;) Time is flying by. It's nice that you'll be having a guest.
I've stopped taking all my supplements for now. And I think I have all my instructions. I have to go for a Covid test next Friday and self isolate for the weekend, even though I've been fully vaccinated and have no symptoms. There is special antibacterial shower wash I have to use for the weekend too. The hospital is taking extra precautions which is good.
It's currently 45 and sunny here with a high of 68 expected, with a few afternoon clouds. Should be a lovely day, and I will probably spend some time in the sun.
    Happy Thursday, everyone.

Howdy all y'all. It's fabulous Friday! It's 50 partly cloudy degrees out there with a mostly sunny high of 72 expected.

Still in mourning, and eating is sort of automatic. Food smells good when being prepared, and tastes fine when eaten, but the desire to make and eat it is just not really back yet. It doesn't help that Lilo always wanted to check out whatever I was making and often wanted to help clean up any leavings, that could be scraped onto a plate for her. She even wanted bits of cheese from pizza. Maybe she was part dog...

So ANYTHING I make will have me thinking of Lilo, at least a bit, for a while.

I have been in this state before, and know that it will pass. I went through it with our first cat, and got started on treatment for my general anxiety disorder at that time. I learned long ago it's not a good idea to miss my daily "Let's not go crazy today" pill, and it is part of my breakfast routine.

And I WILL eat. It can be difficult to decide what to eat, but I think Eduardo is still in there somewhere and helping pick nutritious, tasty, if not necessarily exciting, foods.

I have medication for my diabetes that has to be taken with food, and, of course, if I don't eat, then my blood glucose can crash. As I am a caretaker type of person, and have three other cats and J to feed, I WILL take care of myself as part of taking care of them.

My mental state may not be all that great, temporarily, but physically I am no worse off than my usual aches and pains.

Melatonin is helping me sleep, but I have been waking with a headache and feeling groggy for longer than I like, so I may pursue other options for that.

Talking online to friends, and letting it out in groups like this helps with the mental state, at least temporarily, and short bouts of wailing and crying, holding onto J too.

As a man, I find it very difficult to cry. I have to have an additional something to go with it. Sometimes it can be the wailing while hugging J, or a primal scream in the garage, or even typing it into a message online.

I did get a walk in yesterday too, in fact my meter says I took over 10,000 steps. Some of that was just nervous pacing around the house and yard to burn anxiety.

Our friend will be landing at the airport this afternoon and then taking the MARTA train to our nearest station, where one of us (or both, if available) will pick her up.

We also have a visit scheduled for our central heat and air Spring/Summer maintenance, which overlaps the time she will probably be at the train station for pick-up, but with any luck the technician will come early and be done before then.

Just so you know I am eating, yesterday I made bottom round, braised with carrots, and served with mashed potatoes and green beans. There is some leftover meat, gravy, and carrots that will be lunch, with possibly more of the same sides, or maybe some broccoli instead of the beans.

Howdy all y'all. It's salubrious Saturday!

50 mostly sunny degrees out there now with an expected mostly sunny high of 77.

We are going to the Renaissance Festival today, but I don't know what time, or how long we'll be staying. We all have at least some issues with flexibility and there is a lot of walking at the festival.

Fortunately there is also, as one might expect, a lot of food available. I will be checking my glucose as needed, depending on whether I think I feel a crash coming, and know I can find something suitable to, hopefully, keep that from happening. I am also taking some original Werther's hard caramels with me, just in case.

You can see some (most?) of the expected food items here, though the page doesn't show exactly where, physically, each food is available, and there are several different food courts.

    https://www.garenfest.com/food-drinks

I think the map may give some indication, and I remember some as well. In addition to the food courts, there are a few food and drink carts scattered about the festival. I recall a nice cart with different types and flavors of nuts, mostly almonds and pecans, mostly sweet, but not too terrible for a diabetic as they also have a lot of protein.

It should be fun. I slept somewhat better last night than I have been, and with NO sleep aids. I didn't even try to take a nap yesterday, what with the AC maintenance, and, shortly after that, going to the MARTA station to pick up our guest. I stayed up just a bit later than normal too, and, while I did wake up a few times and my mind ramped up the anxiety an grief, I was able to get back to sleep and woke at 7:00 with Dinah laying on me, as she likes to do in morning hours. Sometimes in the rather early morning hours. LOL.

Dinner last night was at our favorite Thai restaurant, and I managed to not overeat. I also got plenty of steps in, so it was a pretty good day.

Breakfast this morning was oatmeal with blueberries and cream, and sausage links for more protein. I may have a snack or lunch before we head to the festival, depending on the time.

We had a great time at the festival. I ate a half pound hot dog, with bun, right away, as we needed lunch as soon as we got there. I also ate two of the French fries I got for J, and a couple of mac and cheese bites. That held me all the way through the fair, and we went out for Mexican food after.

And my A1c result from blood taken on the 7th came back. 5.6 is amazing, and actually right at the top of the NON-diabetic range. I know this does not mean I am miraculously cured, but it still makes me feel good.

    Good morning.
Congrats on your A1c test, Ed, that's great!
Glad you had fun at the festival. Did they also have crafts and jousting? They have a big Renaissance Fair in MD, but I've never gone. I tend to avoid crowds. Apparently Jousting is the official state sport of MD. So random/odd???! One of my old massage therapists and her husband used to get dressed up every year and participate.
No special plans for today. I colored my hair on Friday, and I've been doing lots of laundry to make sure I have plenty of freshly laundered bed linens and clothes.
It's currently 50 and cloudy this morning with showers during the afternoon. High 67F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%. It looks like it will be getting hot for the next 10 days.
    Have a pleasant Sunday, everyone.

Howdy all y'all. It's sumptuous Sunday! 56 sunny degrees out there now, with an expected mostly sunny high of 80.

I am feeling somewhat tired from the festival yesterday. All I bought this time was the hot dog lunch, and a couple of bottles of water, but we walked all around, looked at some of the crafts, skipped the jousting, but watched several other shows and ended at a pub where various live singers and groups were performing. The last group was rather too boisterous, raucous, and loud for me, so I stepped out, down the hill a way, and sat in the shade on a bench, and enjoyed the music from a bit of a distance. J and A stayed in, but I saw them move to a different bench a short while after I had moved down. It turned out that they had moved, not because of the noise, but to get away from a seriously drunk 30 year old named Russel who was ... returning some of the mead he had consumed.

How do I know so much about Russel? His friends removed him from the pub, and after sitting in the sun for a bit, asked if they could move him to the other end of the bench I was sitting on, so he would be out of the sun. Apparently it was his 30th birthday and he had imbibed far too much mead, without eating anything. I had quite the informative chat with his sister's boyfriend while they tried to get him to eat something. He was close to the passing out point and they were mostly attempting to get him to the front, and take him home to clean him up and put him to bed, but he wouldn't help and just wanted to sit on the bench and be sick.

We eventually got him to eat most of one of my glucose tablets, thinking that might get him a tiny bit of energy, and help him feel better. They finally got the first aid crew to help, and they half carried him off, at which point I discovered that J and A were standing nearby waiting for me. So we left as well, and headed to El Porton for a late dinner. The hostess was thrilled to see J and me, for the first time in over a year.

Then home and late to bed. The cats kindly let me sleep in a bit, but Dinah did insist on climbing on me to lie down for a while.

Today we will see jousting at Medieval Times, and have a royal good time.

I am still having bad moments, but feeling better about Lilo. I am glad that she is no longer in pain, and certainly my life will be a bit simpler without having to provide all the medical care I have been giving her for so long, but I didn't really mind doing it because I loved her, and I will always miss my sweet, precious darling.

Ed-sounds like you had fun a the festival. How kind of you to try and help Russell.
Vix-We are also going to have warmer weather for the next week.
We went to the garden center and a bought a few plants for the deck. I am going to a different one today and look for plants for the bed I have on the side yard. Last year I just planted annuals there. This year I think I will get perennials. Not sure what I want, so will see what catches my eye.
Irene-Have you opened the pool yet?
Hi Jan-Hope you are doing well.
Window washing and washing the kitchen floor is the plan for today.
    Have a great day. :)
