Welcome back from vacation! I hope you had a wonderful time.

I have been...well, binge eating carbs regularly for the past month. :( I decided this morning to do an egg fast to get back on track. I figure it might be a little rough, but trying to gradually get back on is not working (I haven't been able to be consistent since I had a free for all during the holidays).

Let us know if you decide to do it and how it's going. I'm starting today. Heh.

. You will do great ! Keep logging if it helps...

The resort is all inclusive so everything is at our fingertips but very few low carb options... :/
. Sounds like a beautiful vacation....you are certainly getting your " resistance training " in with food at your fingertips! ;)

The more you exercise that resistance muscle, the stronger it gets.

Sorry I haven't checked in much. Lots of things are going on and life has been busy and so had my involvement with the LCD group.

So my eye-nonsense did not improve much with the expensive prescrip. It's $405/month WITH a discount from the company. NICE, no? Funny thing though, I've been having a suspicion for awhile about AS and how it affects me. I was looking back at dates and the fatigue came back once I stated using Torani in my coffee and drinking diet sodas. It was a big coincidence, maybe. That's when my dry-eye started off and on coincidently. It went apocalyptic in January when I started trying to cut again and was using A LOT. Chewing lots of gum, eating jello every night, eating low-cal/low-carb yogurt, and sweetening nightly flavored herbal tea with it. I had other symptoms, too, of hot flashes at night and of irritation of the UT/kidneys...I'm not going into that further, but ladies with multiple births under their belt know what I mean.

That's not funny. Here's the funny part. I have been AS free for 2 days. And for 2 nights my eyes are only mildly a PITA. I only woke twice to use eyedrops, and there have been no close calls on the ripping. I had been waking 6 times a night and having at least 1 close call up until the first day I stopped the AS. And for 2 days, the other symptoms are going away. I have dropped 2lb of the extra weight that has been hanging around. That could be due to a decrease in cortisol from the stress of the pain at night and the not-sleeping.

I'm getting the keto buzz back after my morning keto coffee. And I haven't carb-binged in 11 days.
It's not magic. I'm still tired, and I still have dry mouth/dry eye pretty bad. I have an appt on the 21st to have a check-up and to browbeat the dr into ordering a bunch of bloodwork. There is a MARKED difference though. I don't think there is any coincidence about it. It's the AS making everything worse. If this keeps up, I will try weaning myself off the expensive prescrip. I do think I still have an issue like Sjogren's syndrome or a hormone imbalance. We'll get to the bottom of that.

I've been using stevia once daily in my coffee. I find it disgusting, so I'm thinking of getting rid of it. :disappointed: Maybe tea would work better with it. Anyway....what else? Oh, also I've gone back to lazy keto while I'm also working on keeping the binges away since they have redeveloped. I'm doing ok. I haven't gained any so far.

Anyway, any of you all on my Mindfulness challenge will probably reread some of this over there. Apologies for that.
    Sorry this is so long.

My mood is so improved! But that could be that it's been in the 60s and sunny for days.
    I'm optimistic. :+1:

Wow. The food demons took me for the past few weeks. Ugh.

@baconslave, Mindfulness challenge? That sounds interesting. Would you say more about it and is it still open to join?

Yes. Always accepting new challengers. We are doing it the whole month in the Low Carber Daily group. Basically we are practicing living in the moment and experiencing the moment instead of rushing past it without a thought. Which can help us observe and examine thoughts and feelings associated with things more easily. Mindful eating, which is slowing down your eating, chewing more, tasting more, not multitasking during eating, listening to what your body is telling you regarding satiety. You can apply this to exercising or whatever.

    Here's a c&p of the challenge blurb:

    baconslave wrote: »
    Welcome!

Life is...well....it's LIFE, isn't it? It can be good. It can also be busy, frantic, and sometimes, downright chaotic. We are pulled so many directions but so many situations and distractions. When do we have time to breathe, let alone live in the moment?

So this month, I think it would be excellent to challenge ourselves to incorporate mindfulness into our journey to health. Plus, it works with the whole alliteration thing.

Morwenna Ferrier (writer for the Guardian) defines the new fad-term "mindfulness" this way: "The whole ethos of mindfulness is to encourage people to live in the moment. The theory goes that we are so busy trying to block out past worries and anticipate future ones that we rarely concentrate on enjoying what we are doing at the precise moment we are doing it. Devotees claim mindfulness can be applied to everything from walking and running to sex and eating." http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/jun/23/mindful-eating-how-to-get-more-from-your-meals

But I challenge that it isn't only about enjoyment. It's about AWARENESS. That's how we diagnose the elusive issue we carry, the sneaky ones that fly under our radar, but continue to throw a wrench into our efforts. So much about success in weight loss and health is about healing our dysfunctional relationships with food and other things in our lives, so we are free from the impetus of stress and emotions that often spurs us to sabotage ourselves.

So in that vein, the challenge is to practice some form of mindfulness by pausing and observing what happens in our heads and bodies when we eat or exercise, to be aware. And maybe then we can enjoy our journey more and discover any hang-ups we've missed and lock them down.

How? I've created a list of links. Some repeat the theme but add something. There a couple that apply to mindfulness in general terms. But understanding the concept can help but aide us in applying it to our reason for being here on MFP.

Start with this, garnered from zenhabits.com
    Benefits?
Reduced over eating. It’s been a while now since I went to bed feeling bloated and over stuffed. Which is great in itself but also means that my ‘muffin top’ is pretty much gone when I wear my favorite jeans.

Increased enjoyment of food. As a food scientist, I’ve always considered myself a big fan of eating. Now that I’m on the path to mastering the art of mindful eating, I am finding a new found respect for food and am gaining far more pleasure from meal times.

Improved digestion. Digestion begins in the mouth with the action of saliva. If food isn’t chewed properly it means that there’s more work for the rest of your digestion system. I may be imagining this, but I think I’ve also noticed I have less gas now that I’m eating mindfully.

Being satisfied with less. Linked with reduced over eating, the real benefit here is being able to trust yourself to feel satisfied after one or two squares of chocolate so there is no temptation to scoff the whole block. Suddenly there’s no need to deny yourself the occasional treat which makes for a far healthier relationship with food.
Ready to change the way you interact with food?

How to master the art of mindful eating:
    1. Start small. Like all new habits, it’s best to set realistic expectations. Choose one meal or snack each day and commit to focusing on mindful eating at that time.

    2. Stop multitasking at meal times. It’s really difficult to focus on eating if you’re doing other things. Set aside time for eating without other entertainment.

    3. Only eat at the table. Another way to minimize mindless munching is to get into the habit of only eating when you are sitting down and able to give the food your full attention. No more snacking on the run.
    4. Appreciate the appearance. While we’ve all drooled over gorgeous food porn in magazines or online, sometimes we forget about the beauty of the food we are about to eat. Taking the time to notice sets the scene for mindful eating.
    5. Focus on each mouthful. Think about the flavour, texture and even the sound of the food in your mouth. Focus on how much you like, or dislike these sensations.
    6. Chew. While it can be overkill to go to the monastic extreme of 100 bites per mouthful, make sure you chew your food enough so that it is well broken down before you swallow.

7.Use cutlery and put it down between mouthfuls. It’s much easier to take smaller portions when using a knife and fork. Of course if you feel like you’re having a ridiculous Seinfeld moment eating a chocolate bar with utensils, then skip this step but do put the bar down in between bites so you can focus.

    8. Talk and share. One of the joys of eating is sharing a meal with loved ones. It can be challenging to incorporate mindfulness in a social situation but not impossible. Turn the focus of the conversation onto the meal while you are actually eating. Share what you are experiencing in terms of flavours and textures, likes and dislikes. At first this may seem a little weird but trust me, you’ll soon find yourself having fun with it.

    9. Go for quality not quantity. By choosing smaller amounts of the best food you can afford, you will not only enjoy it more, you’re far more likely to be satisfied without having to over eat.

    10. Make time to prepare your own meals, preferably from fresh ingredients. The cooking process can be as relaxing and enjoyable as eating if you let it. For me, the peace of mind that comes from knowing exactly what has gone into my food makes any hassle worthwhile.

Well, so far so good! Coffee blended with coconut oil and cinnamon for breakfast, lunch was two boiled eggs with a tablespoon and a half of mayo, dinner - 3 eggs with a couple of tablespoons of butter (and tabasco). Feeling pretty satiated at the moment. Gotta plan for tomorrow. Fortunately I have a pinterest board dedicated to this. May just do the same as today...

Thanks for asking! My goal is to stay on until Friday so I need to plan. I have the same problem as you, finding the time to stop and do it.

Howdy Keto friends!! I had been really hungry the past two days, but today back to normal. Today marks 3 weeks since starting this WOE and I weigh in on Thursdsy. I'm only weighing once per week.

The most noticeable thing for me since starting Keto is that my energy is pretty sustained all day long. That is a blessing in itself!! I love how I feel. I've found that my emotions are much more leveled out as well. I'm really glad I've hopped onboard the Keto train!!

going to stay positive. have been overwhelmed with keto and low carb websites, social media, and job at diet place..too much food on the brain, so i have deleted a lot of them and turned off notifications so i dont get food photo bombed 24/7.. too much of a good thing is clouding my sense of my own personal journey and direction. back to the basics for me.

Yeah. "Food porn" just gives me encouragement to overindulge or want to incorporate stuff in my diet I need to steer clear of. Good luck.

Seems a lot of us are thinking the same way. I keep finding myself watching the video links and following the web sites. I'm just getting reinforcement for what I already know. Time to focus on doing and stop thinking about it so much. Seems like thinking too much is the best way to find excuses...

@baconslave Mindfulness Challenge, that sounds interesting... "Food porn" - lol

It's official!!! I've been on keto for 10 weeks this week and I've had NO dystonic tremors. Zero. Nada. I've not even gotten a feeling like my body was going to tremor. 10 weeks means that it is not a "placebo effect" and that this is actually working. 20 carbs is where I'm at, and with all y'alls help... I'm finding this is the easiest solution. I didn't expect that the answer to my neuro problems was just changing the way I ate. I expected it to be deep brain stimulation or another brain surgery or something... instead I GET to take the easy, non-invasive route! No stinkin meds that make me addicted or nauseous or drugged up, no intramuscular botox shots, no surgeries--- just eat!

I had been feeding my brain all the wrong junk- it's happy and so is the rest of me!

    That is sooo amazing!!!

    Thanks @dessiepenn ! I've got a darling NSV today:
Last night my son watched me tie up my gi (martial arts uniform) and my white belt for my second taekwondo class. He had a goofy grin on his face and when I asked him about it, he gave me a huge hug and told me he was "so proud of my mom for getting back into martial arts." Talk about major motivation! My nine-year old is just the sweetest and always seems to know just what to say and when to say it!

@kimbo8435 He may not understand the wealth and depth of what he said - but that's amazing. I bet he's feeling so much that he can't even explain it all. :) And for your kid to be proud of you is pretty impressive, no matter that age!

Yesterday was day two of my egg fast. Strayed slightly...to the tune of 20 carbs but it could have been so much worse so I'm actually fairly proud of myself.

Dropped two pounds of water yesterday. Evidently, during my little (and by that I mean "huge") carb binge, I'd really bloated up. My hunger has abated with all of the fat I'm consuming. Only dealing with the psychological compulsion to eat at this point - which is no little thing but coping. Dang, food addiction is a b*tch!

Plan to egg fast today and tomorrow.

@kimbo8435 what a sweet success. I almosted teared up reading that. My daughter (2.5 years old) is stretching and doing sit ups and push ups with me on weekends. And then my 1 year old joins in on the fun by climbing on me during workouts. I love that my family gets involved with my attempts to get healthy.

Well, I'm doing pretty well this week. I have been able to keep net carbs near 25 and finally started getting + urinary ketones. I've adapted to this WOE and am really satisfied. Was thinking of trying IF (fasting from breakfast to dinner). My upcoming clinical rounds will leave me hard-pressed for a lunch break, so this may make sense to adjust now. Anyone have success with IF?

Howdy gang! For St Pattys Day we had Reuben casserole for dinner. Yummmm.

Today was my weekly weigh in day. 1.6 lbs loss. I'm a super slow loser, always have been. So in three weeks I'm down 5.2 lbs. it's okay. I'll get there.

I did it for awhile, more a function of just not being hungry and being really busy, than purposely at first. I'd have coffee with a little coconut oil in the morning (around 6am) then eat from 2-8, so 18/6 I guess? I did this for about a month and had great results in both weight loss and sustained energy. That said, at the same time I was eating very, very low carbs and high fat. My calories were pretty low as well so I don't know if it was the IF or other factors.

Hate to tell you, honey, but that isn't slow. Sometimes I'm lucky to hit 2 pounds a month... That's pretty standard and average. I hope you don't hit slower losses and end up feeling disappointed, but know it can and likely will happen from time to time. (HUGS)

    LOL. Thanks!!

I am only three weeks in and have 100+ to lose. So many people start of with a bang then settle into a moderate rate of weight loss on Keto. I can't pretend that I didn't wish I was losing 5 pounds a week at the get-go. But now that I'm seeing the benefits in how I feel, the weight loss is looking to be a secondary benefit. :)

I started my overall heath journey at my highest medical weight of 319. I've been around the 250-260 range for the last 2-3 years, though I've lost some, regained, but lost more inches than pounds lately.

This year I will turn 40 years old, I am just shy of 5'4". My ideal weight by the charts is a max of 145. I will never be able to get there in a healthy way again. They say that once your body adds fat cells, your healthy weight range changes, because your body will always hold some extra weight from all the empty extra fat cells it added when I was my heaviest, and it doesn't Kill those cells ever - it just tells the body they're empty and dormant, etc.

So, I too, still have at least 80 pounds to lose, and never have I lost 5 pounds in a week. So I feel your pain. I'm working really really hard right now to stop any comparison between myself and others, but honestly, it's really hard. WE always want a point of reference, and we always need a marker for progress, etc. Humans are naturally competitive...even though the playing field has NEVER been an even one...

So ... just to summarize, you're not alone. Focusing on the benefits is the way to go. I try to remember, I'm looking for health gains, weight loss is the byproduct, and that darned scale will catch up with me eventually!

So ... just to summarize, you're not alone. Focusing on the benefits is the way to go. I try to remember, I'm looking for health gains, weight loss is the byproduct, and that darned scale will catch up with me eventually!

I'm cheering for you! I, too, thought I would never get to goal weight, but you never know how your body might respond over long periods of time. I'm so in awe at the fact that you are staying the course and are so generous with your profound keto knowledge!
