Hello, team The Big Butt Theory! Welcome to July and a special welcome to the newcomers. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves to the team and tell us a little bit about your goals for the month.
Hi, my name is Lisa and I have been with this team since October and in a leadership role since December. I am your captain for July. I am 52, a Canadian living in Southern Ontario, married 26 years and have two grown sons. One is done school, living at home and working at the family business. The other is still in school, but completing his degree in Germany.
I did really well with this challenge until Christmas, then I completely fell off the rails. Had some success in April, but it wasn't until last month that I was able to completely turn it around. Finally!!! Being involved with this group helps to at least keep my head above water when I am struggling!! If you are struggling, it can help you, too. So, the more you interact, the more you will feel the team's support.
A little about this challenge.....it runs Sunday to Saturday. Post your weigh-in on this thread on your chosen weigh-in day. If you need to miss a weigh-in, let me know. If you forget to post a weigh-in, post as soon as you remember, up until Saturday evening. (I'd say Saturday at midnight, EDT, but I am not up that late!) Please post a weight even if you have gained. There is no judgement here, only support, and it happens to all of us at some point!! If you miss two weigh-ins, you will be removed from the month and will have to re-register for the next month if you wish to continue.
Yes, this is a weight loss challenge, but I would like you to think of it more as a support group. Sometimes, you can do all the right things, but the scale just doesn't move. If you have taken measurements you will be able to see that you are making progress, just not contributing to the team's weight loss. But we don't want you to despair, or leave, if this happens, thus the focus on the "support" aspect!
We are all here for the same reason....to lose weight and get healthy. Some days will go better than others....weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint, after all!! But with the support of this team, and some hard work, we can all make it to the finish line!
Have a great July, everyone!!6 -
Hello again, team TBBT. The July challenge doesn't officially start until Sunday July 1st, but I thought I'd give you some more information so that you can be ready to jump in with both feet! Within the main weight loss challenge we have another optional, but highly recommended, challenge. It is called the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge, or the Mini Challenge. It is based on another MFP challenge group by the same name, or UAC.
The way it works is simple:
1. Log everything you eat that has calories in MFP.
2. Stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget.
3. Do at least 20 minutes of activity daily. This could be anything that gets you off the couch and being active: run, walk, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.
4. Report each day on this thread (something to the effect of logged food: yes, under calories: yes, exercise: yes, and a brief description is nice)
****When you post your accountability, please put the date, or the day of the week to which you are referring. We are all in different time zones, and some people post in the evening for that day, and others post the next morning, so it gets confusing trying to decipher without a day or date. Thanks!!!*****
You get one free pass day a week (went over calories, could not log food, rest day, etc.) At the end of the week, if you have managed to be "accountable" for at least 6 of 7 days, you will be recognized on this thread as being in the Winner's Circle!
This strategy works for weight loss because it is based on CI<CO. When calories in are less than calories out, you stay inside your allotted daily calorie budget, and you will lose weight! And exercise is just good for you, plus it will burn calories and help with the calories out portion of the equation!
What's great about this challenge is that it works for everyone, as long as you are honest with yourself. There are no dietary restrictions, so you can eat whatever you like, and follow whatever plan you like. Your own daily calorie budget is set by you and MFP and you choose your own exercise and intensity of exercise! Plus it is a practice that can be carried beyond weight loss into maintenance! If you are having a bad week, a new week and a fresh start is just around the corner!
Consistency and new habits have been shown to be the keys to long term successful weight loss. Why not make the Mini Ultimate Accountability Challenge your new habit, that you do consistently!!
Week #1 for the Mini Challenge starts Sunday, July 1st!!4 -
Hello everyone! My name is Drea and this is my 7th month on this fitness journey. I ended 2017 at 260 lbs... I’m now at 231 lbs and up 7 lbs bc the last couple of months I haven’t been consistent with working out and eating right. I’m excited to start a new month and get back on track!7

Hi all!
I’m Kim and I’ve been on this team since November of 2017. It’s been a great way for me to stay accountable! I’ve been slacking the last couple of months and giving into weekend splurging, but I have a girls getaway trip in August I’ve got my sights set on wearing a bathing suit for it! So I’m really trying to stay in track now!7 -
Hello everyone, my name is Kate. I’ve been on this team since either Dec or January(I can’t remember!) I’ve lost 111 pounds on this journey and am almost to my goal weight. I think this will be my last month in the challenge since it’s getting to time to start maintenance. I love the accountability and support of this group. Welcome to all newcomers!9

Hello, I've been on this journey for a few years now. I have lost 35 pounds from where I started. For some reason, I tend to go off track in June. This year, I have done a better job of not letting things get completely out of control. I'm excited for this last week of June and for the new month of July!
It has also helped that my family is on board now making better choices for themselves too. My husband actually joined a challenge group this year on MFP that I also participate with and that's certainly been a motivator to keep me engaged. He even thanked me this past week for encouraging him to get involved. He's lost 15 pounds this year and is feeling great!
My son, that still lives at home, got back into strength training when we decided to turn the sunroom into a gym earlier this year. He doesn't do much halfway. So he's mega tracking his calories and macros. He eats super healthy (organic vegetables/fruits, pastured dairy/meats, wild caught fish) now. The days of being able to serve too many quick processed food meals are over. Since this is how I try to live anyway, it's another thing that helps to keep me moving in the right direction and when I see him in the kitchen steaming vegetables, it makes it hard to want junk food.
Wishing everyone a motivated and successful July!7 -

Looking forward to seeing what i can lose in July. I use an exercise bike daily for 30-60 mins and swim a few days a week at least (weathers been bad so I havnt been able to this week) and I'm doing the one meal a day diet which let's me eat what I want, just once a day. But I do also take vitamins and try to get veggies in as much as I can. It's great to meet you all.4

Hello, Vi, and welcome to team The Big Butt Theory!! Congratulations on losing 16 pounds so far in your journey!! That is awesome, and shows you are dedicated to the process!! And you have two good workouts in your arsenal with the biking and the swimming!! Eating once a day sounds somewhat like intermittent fasting? Good luck with that? I hope we can be a source of motivation for you to continue your success from June into July!!3 -

Yes, its IF at 23:1. It fits well in my schedule and it seems to be the perfect fit for me as it's not been difficult to maintain at all. Hoping it stays that way. Thanks for letting me join.3 -
Hello everyone my name is Crystal and I am new to this challenge but not new to this struggle of trying to lose weight. I rededicated (is that word lol) myself to this journey June 1!so I’m 28 days into this lifestyle change. I’m down 10.4lbs and my ultimate goal is to get down about 89 more pounds. I’m currently doing Keto and in the beginning stages of intermittent fasting usually fasting 16 hours and eating in an 8 hour window. Looking forward to this challenge.4

Hi there. My name Priska, I am new to this challenge but highly motivated.
I am French and moved in London 6 years ago. I put on quite a lot of weight since then (about 65lbs in 6 years). So in April this year I decided that enough was enough and changed my diet completely. I also started walking a lot more (I am now doing at least 20 000 steps a day, 5 days a week), and very recently started to go to the gym for higher intensity exercises.
I have lost 33 lbs so far and would like to lose another 30 to go back to the weight I used to be.
Unfortunately, I am now stuck at a stupid plateau. Been about 181 lbs for the last few weeks. It is very frustrating but I am hoping that this challenge/support group might help me get that extra bit of motivation I need.6 -

I hope we can be the motivation you need to continue to lose those last 30!! Well done on the 20,000 steps a day and adding in gym time as well!! That will help keep you on track for sure!!
My old eyes are having trouble with your username.....How many 'i's are there? Is it 5?

Hi Everyone, I’m new to this challenge. I’m just this week starting to work on me. Had a year from Hell with a family illness. They are on the highway to recovery and now time for me to jump on. I’m sad to say my weight has gone in February from 235 to now 249. I need to do this for my health, my future and my family. Really all for me!!!
My name is Cathy. I may need a push and an occasional pep talk and I will do the same for anyone else. I’m nervous about starting, but here we go.
Thank you for allowing me to join!5 -
Hello! I’m Allison. First time to this Challenge group. I’m 16 pounds away from goal. I’ve lost 89 since I started trying to lose in Aug 2014. I can feel the end nearing. I’m already thinking about what I’m going to do for maintenance.
Some of my goals for July:
- Lose 4-6 pounds by eating at my weight loss calorie level and interspersing it with days of eating at maintenance. This strategy is working really well for me.
- Continue with my yoga practice at least 4 out of 7 days. Ideally 7 days.
- Do cardio as I feel - I do plenty. What I need to do more of is ST. I’d like to say I’ll do at least 3 days per week of ST for at least 15 min per session.
- Drink 8 glasses of water for at least 5 days per week. Ideally 7 days.
- Spend time doing my hobbies.
- Take time to relax and enjoy.
Looking forward to this Challenge and meeting you all !5 -

@ccpapajet, I am so glad that you are ready to get started on your journey!! Your enthusiasm is palpable!! Yes, at times we focus our energies on other people and forget to leave some for ourselves!! (Glad to hear everyone is on the mend!) That being said, you have actually posted on the wrong team's thread. You have been assigned to team Run Track Minds, so you'll want to pop over there and introduce yourself to them!! I wish you the best of luck on your journey!! The first step is always the hardest, and you have taken that!!0 -
Welcome all new friends.
I am fairly new to this group myself, June was my first month. My whole life I have been up amd down with weight, the past few years I have been lingering between 250-260. Last year, 12/28/17, I weighed in at 275.5 after a really tough year mentally, which led me to give up on health (obviously)
I am down 25.1 lbs in the past 6 months. I joined this group at 252.9 and I managed to lose 2.5 of those lbs in June. I am at 250.4. I REALLY hope July lets me say goodbye to the 250s. Its gonna be a tough first week with a graduation party and July 4th BBQs. But I also have a vacation the first weekend in August, so I think that will keep me motivated to lose as much as possible.
My advice is to stick to the daily mini-accountability challenge, but also don’t let it get in your head. Even if you dont hit all the goals everyday, it keeps what you are doing in your mind constantly. I have not made it to the winners circle yet, but by tracking everyday I think it has made me make a lot of better decisions.6 -

Hello, Allison, and welcome! You have already lost 89 pounds!! Congratulations!! You have obviously found what works for you!! (You have a well thought out list of goals to aim for each week which definitely helps!) I'd say I hope we can inspire you as you work on losing those last 16, but I have a feeling you are going to be inspiring us!!3 -
Hello everyone!
My name is Colleen and I am new to this challenge and actually still new to MFP. I am very excited to finally be taking time for myself and trying to get healthier. I am 53 years old, live in PA, married, and am a cardiac NP.
I think it is about time I practice what I preach! I have always gone up and down with weight, but for the past several years have mainly stayed up. It may be a bit of a learning curve for me to post to some of these forums, but I am looking forward to the support and exciting news of others’ successes! I can’t wait to begin this new journey and hopefully add to the weight loss of team BBT!!!5 -

Hello, Colleen and welcome to team The Big Butt Theory!! I am so happy that you have decided that it is finally time to take care of yourself, too, and to practice what you are preaching!! Better late than never!! I hope that we can inspire you as you begin this new journey! Post as often as you like, asking questions, seeking advice, just plain venting or celebrating a success!! We are all here to help and motivate each other!!1 -
Hello,
My name is Karen, user name Simbersea. I’m new to this challenge, but not new to MFP. My weight is consistent. It’s too much, but I’m usually within 2 lbs of 167. I need to be around 145. My issue is definitely food, not working out. I regularly go to the gym 5-6 days a week, doing a variety of weight lifting, Spinning, swimming and boxing. But you know how they say weight loss is 80% food, 20% exercise? I am proof of that. So I’m looking forward to joining this group and doing better at hitting my target calories every day. Fingers crossed.6 -
Hi all this is my second month on team Big Butt Theory. Weight has always been an issue for me but more so after having a stroke last fall and spending what I call the "winter of no fun".
I am an RN working in neonatal ICU taking care of the tiny babies. My grandkids call them my "work grandbabies". I love my job. I joke that I work part time and am retired part time. I am working to discard the excess weight so I really can enjoy me retirement.
I have a puppy, affectionately called the "poopy dog" Brandy that is my exercise partner.

Hello! My name is Sarah. I'm 34 yrs old, married with a 10 yr old daughter and a teddy bear dog. I currently weigh 243.7 lbs. I would like to lose 1-2 lbs per week dor the month of July. I have started keto in June and have lost 12 lbs so far. I have hit a plateau the past couple of weeks so hopefully I can break through. I look forward to getting to know everyone. Hopefully we can all reach our goals this month.6

Hi everyone!
My name is James, I am new to joining challenges on MFP and really looking forward to taking part in a community. I am looking to drink 2L water a day and keep up with recording my dietary intake on a daily basis. I want to loose a few more IBS as I am trying to lower my body fat % while doing moderate weight training.
I weigh on a daily basis and record on fitbit to get a weekly average, instead of weighing once a week. I will post the average instead on a Sunday.
Nice too meet everyone!2 -
Well, this past week has been an odd one. My kitty is feeling better and now my husband is sick.
I'm dedicating today to getting life back into some sort of a more normal rhythm and to be back to the daily challenge of logging, staying within calories and exercising.
Kind of happy to see a new week kick off!3 -

Hi, Karen, and welcome to team The Big Butt Theory!! Wow, you really do workout a lot!! That's great that you have that 20% well taken care of!! I hope we can help motivate you to take care of the last 80%!! I don't know if you recall, but we were teammates a few years ago when Melodie was doing her challenges. Nice to meet up again!0 -
