I brought the car to the Hamilton mechanic who my housemate used - and I have gone a couple of times for oil changes. They are a fancy mechanic - a bit more expensive - but wow. I asked him to take a look, and for $80 he did a pretty good inspection and they provide the customer with an online visual inspection. The car is in far worse shape that I thought. Absolutely beyond reasonable repair (at least $20,000 to have it road worthy). The craziest thing to my ears is that half of the drive shaft is MISSING. So the old 4WD is now a 2WD and apparently the drive shaft adds some stability so that if my front end hit a bump/hole the car would be inclined to fold over on itself.

But - it looks like a really nice car! The exterior has no rust. The interior looks great. All the controls work well.

I think the fellow who sold it to me was not the owner. I think he was selling it for a family member with no English/limited internet experience. He really does seem surprised.

For a while he kept saying the bumper wasn't a problem when I left - and that it shouldn't be that expensive to fix - I think he was not reading properly when I spoke about the rusted frame - nor looking at the pictures I sent him.

Yesterday I sent him the link to the mechanic's report. He wrote back to me last night that he is trying to get someone to come to pick up the car. Which implies - I think - that he will refund my money. Which I asked for - and also told him that the mechanic didn't believe the car was safe to drive.

    Fingers crossed.

Here it the link to the report. The service advisor and inspector look pretty darned serious/aggressive even. No wonder the fellow who sold me the car is nervous :)

The first things were all reasonable - it is an older car, I expected repairs - up to $2,000 I would have been very happy with the end product.

The mechanic was surprised at the extent of the rust underneath. I told him that I bought the car from a boat yard - he was wondering if the car was used to move the boats - in salt water - because that would make sense.

It has been an experience. I'm happy I made it home safely. I'm sad for Chicky Blue.

I really do hope you manage to get your money back Laurie 🤞

Like you needed extra stress :(

As soon as I see ownership of less than a year or another name for the owner I think curbing :(

Here’s hoping the seller hasn’t already spent your money! And not in any financial position to refund. You may need to go the small claims route because the car is obviously not legally driveable.

Let's add to the fun! Apparently I'm trying to buy $600 worth of stuff from Amazon US "marketplace" .... which was news to me.... and did list the correct ENDING numbers of the credit card on the regular sms channel where previous notification have arrived..... off to talk to the credit card people through their bank app's dial in feature and not via the 800 number suggested in the already verified to be real sms channel.... Not that I'm paranoid much.

Then again.... they ARE out to get me!!! 🤯🤯🤯 :-(

Oh my. The world is challenging!!!!!
I hope not, Yooly. But. Just in case. I've been reading up on what I need to do re small claims court. I hope I don't need to go that route.

Sorry about the credit card 💳 fraud PAV! Don’t you just hate that? It just leaves you wondering about the person doing this. How / where/ when did they capture your info? For us it seems to be related to unfamiliar off the highway gas stations when taking a road trip.

Then you’re stuck with the cleanup and waiting for a new card - arghhhh!

    Ugh!

And it is SOOOOO ANNOYING that the bank NEVER shares WHERE the leak came from. I mean it is unlikely they can do this EVERY time. But when it is a leak from a particular business they should have enough of them to cross reference!

Actually thinking of where I used that card recently that was not part of usual collection of merchants? Hockey Game! Should check with Nik whether hockey arenas tend to be safe from skimming!

At least… reminds me to not complain too much when the cards block during legitimate transactions!

<my complaint tends to be not that they block. but that it takes so long to reach someone who can unblock!>

    The challenge continues.
Sometimes though it astounds me how well it usually runs. Most people are honest and decent.

Only experienced credit card (attempted) fraud once. Someone tried to buy two $2,000 down coats online with my card number. Someone at the store actually twigged that something odd was going on. Two coats were one too many.

OH had a massive credit card fraud - was on his work’s card & was very, very stressful… massive amount of money attempted to be extorted - turned out that the person was making “extra” paper slips from customer’s cards … doyou remember wnen you card was laid flat under slips between carbon copies? ... So way back, but remember it still 😒

I use tap to pay from my phone like 90% of the time the past few years. Been in 4 or 5 different hockey arenas, no fraud.

Is anyone else having problems with MFP? Most of the times I've tried in the past few days I can't log my food - nor get to our group. :(

I can get to the group and community. 🤔

    Can't speak to the logging

    What happens?

Yes, android phone, website (not app) - frequent timeouts that eat what I was trying to post. Often no search results in tracker. Double posts ( 1st one ok, 2nd one blank.) Sometimes no response when I click button/link to next area.

I have caved in and am going to have to wear compression socks on the daily. Certainly for my 12 hr shifts and I am wearing compression sleeves right now (calf cover, no ankle/foot) because my varicose veins are crazy and if I'm going to see a vascular doc about them, I need to be able to honestly claim I'm doing what I can

eff it! I am giving up! Four messages in a row are not posting "pending" approval. Not sure if it is formatting in them or length?

    Wowser.

    I see 2 @PAV8888

Not appearing pending approval! I have been testing various paragraph formats in terms of finding the culprit… maybe it is ANY paragraph formatting that is the issue.

So this one is without ANY paragraph formatting! And not including any quoted text

PC — website (chrome and edge both w/ublock origin lite extension ad block (set to complete; plus malwarebytes browser guard) — double posts sometimes like you.

Android—using the app. Same issue on double posts. Less so than initially.

Logging: using the guys from Revelstoke, BC :-)

New issue… the "message needs approval before posting"…. m'ok!

Ps, i have not gotten that particular gatekeeper message

OK… multiple messages in "approval" queue. Either there is a buried leftover from trying to quote @yakkystuff OR the length of message is what is killing it?!?!?!

    PAV8888 Posts: 15,111 Member

The messages were about website and android app and logging in the revelstoke, bc, made app ;-)

But they had as a base my attempt to quote @yakkystuff 's post… which I thought I had cleaned out by the fourth attempt… but maybe I had not!

@pav888 Well, can't imagine a mod put you in timeout unless you've been wildly romping around the forums...

Totally clueless... wonder if/when they will appear…?

Q4u - clearing out the quote seem to help?

    Frustrating glitches these days

Normal mods ARE able to deal with messages in this group when we ask them to come in by flagging and reporting. However I believe that currently none of the group "owners" or "moderators" are around, which means that there are no "group owner" admin functions that we can perform.

    Hope the compression helps @nicsflyingcircus

Would be interested in any other recs they might have.
