Annual physical tomorrow 🩺. I feel like I’ve been examined way too much in the last six months but you gotta check out all the other parts too. I’m going to hate getting on the scale being over maintenance weight.
From all I’ve read about my new meds 💊weight gain is common as is difficulty losing weight. The meds slow everything down to a crawl. The only advice is cut back even more calories and ramp up exercise. Hard to do when chronic fatigue 😴is another side effect.
Maybe the doc will have some answers? Maybe some magic 🧚‍♂️ ?

According to my doc I doing great. The weight gain is not a panic 🙀- she’s sure I can reverse it. I have my doubts but will keep working on it. At least it’s been relatively stable for months.
Actually lost 2 pounds on vacation. Here’s hoping they won’t find me……

Most like the loss was from lack of access to snacking.

I was supposed to weight today but totally forgot this morning. No therapy this week as my doctor is out of the office. So just logging my food and taking notes to talk to her next week. I do think the therapy is helping. I binge a lot less often and have been able to stop myself more then once. Also have been able to resist eating out a few times.

Taking notes of why I do what I do has been eye opening.

If only I knew why I do half the stupid things I do! And even more so, if only I successfully prevented myself from doing the stupid things I do even 10% of the time!!!🤯

    Ah Mr.PAV - you’re just a youngster! You’ll get some wisdom/insight as you age!

I must say, although retired and therefore on the old side…I am singularly unhelpful when it comes to discovering why I go off the rails - even when diligently seeking to understand. I can hazard a guess at best - hoping it's at least an educated guess...🙄

@Athijade sounds like you are making true headway - stopping and resisting! Good going 👍

@Yoolypr losing 2 lbs on vacation?? Way to go!

@Athijade - that's great. Tracking those kinds of things can be so helpful to identify patterns. Realized I brought a stack of snackage whenever I sat down to pay bills, and wanted ice cream after dentist visits or whenever very sad things made me cry. Hadn't realized how many habits entwined with food when food wouldn't even fix it ;)

Doing laundry always makes me want to snack! Can’t imagine why as it’s not anxiety producing. I think it may be related to a long buried childhood thing?

Could be. We always had shortcake after picking berries and making jam with grams in June

Dear BC let’s not let the youngsters know that wisdom doesn’t always come with age. Let’s give them some modicum of hope - especially PAV? Because sometimes (often!) there is little wisdom but a whole lot of AGE!

Well Grandma, I'm hoping (well having some doubts but ya know trying to beat the odds) to get to discover your advanced age stuff in a non hospitalized condition!😉 But there is always the little red riding hood story to consider when talking to a kindly Grandma!!!🤣🤣🤣 Wait, wait a second... you're not old enough to be my grandma!!!!😘

I think you both have lots of wisdom to impart on those of us who have yet to reach your years of experience!😜

Not old enough to be your Grandma Mr. PAV! Actually not a grandma at all. Son is single and hasn’t fathered any children that we know of. He’ll be 50 this year and grandmahood seems unlikely.

So basically I’m old enough to be your mother. Scary thought 😱

BAKING PROJECT!!!! CAN YOU MAKE IT????

I've tried to make zoo (and carrot) brownies (back in my first couple of years on mfp).
Can you all one (or two or three) up me?

Here is the conundrum that you could solve!
The pinnacle of food technology YOU can achieve!

RX Bars seem to list as their ingredients: —x amount of egg whites—y amount of almonds—z amount of cashews—k amount of dates

So for example the one I am holding says: 3 egg whites, 6 almonds, 4 cashews, 2 Dates: 200Cal, 52g.
The chocolate sea salt one lists: 3 egg whites, 6 almonds, 5 cashews, 2 dates: same 200 Cal, 52g
The Peanut butter chocolate one lists: 3 egg whites, 14 peanuts, 2 dates: 210 Cal for 52g

Let's reconcile these with the back of the pack that presumably lists ingredients in weight order (and corresponding to the above three examples):

==Dates, dried-egg-whites, almonds, cashews, natural flavors
==Dates, dried-egg-whites, cashews, almonds, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa, natural flavors, sea salt.
==Dates, peanuts, dried-egg-whites, unsweetened chocolate, peanut flour, natural flavors that include peanut oil, cocoa, sea salt!

So it looks to me that the sweetness is coming from the dates. I'm having some trouble envisioning how just a couple of dates can be bulking up enough to turn into a full bar. Presumably the nuts provide some oils and bulk, of course… something must be happening with the egg white???

    Suggested ingredients for the experiment:

—dried dates, dried prunes, dried figs, water reduced cooked bananas maybe (including the outside? There is a company that makes banana brownies!)
    — dried egg whites and even more than the amount they use cause 12g of protein the RX Bars seem to have is good but not great!
    — actual almonds and cashews or possibly I've been thinking, cashew milk or almond milk with sugar free vanilla flavor, or flours made from same????

END GOAL: Our very own protein bar…. hopefully costing much less than the US $1.33 or so that these are selling for!

Bonus points: Throw in some veggies!!!!

My purple sweet potato brownies were one of my better versions! Carrots or zoo might work too as bulking agents!

Challenge Blame: It's all on Yooly for suggesting uncooked zucchini!

    What say you?

Just speaking for myself. I’m sure others have had great experiences with making protein bars.

I’ve stopped buying protein/granola/snack bars. And I don’t know that I miss them or might want to do homemade versions. There are lots of recipes out there - mostly no bake variety. They all have oats or grain, fruit & nuts with something to glue them all together like dates, peanut butter, honey.

Lately I’m snacking on these fruit and nut packets sold at Costco. 24 per bag for about $13. Around $.50 each and 160-170 calories. Tasty and no filler ingredients.

    IMG_1162.jpeg

But the sticky dense texture of most protein bars has been off-putting. The plain fruit & nuts just tastes “cleaner”.

I don’t know for sure but it may be by the time you gather up all ingredients for homemade bars they may turn out to be more expensive than store bought???
