DH’s primary care referred him to a specialist. He told him he probably wouldn’t get an appointment before we leave in May but to make an appointment for when we come back next winter. He has the same type specialist back home but the feeling was he needs to be followed while we are hear. Surprisingly, the office called and he has an appointment in early May. The scheduler told him she’d put him on a cancellation list for March and April. I told DH he might actually get a cancellation with coronavirus going around. We’ll see what happens. Regardless, we were pleased to have an appointment in May. We’ve been very pleased with the quality of medical care here and how nice all the doctors and assistants are.

The parking lot at the Hopkins outpost was probably more full than usual but the cardiologist did mention cancellations. DH has talked about cancelling a doctor's appointment. I don't have any coming up that I'd feel comfortable cancelling.

Black cats have always been my favorite. We haven't been without a black cat since 1980.

CROM is dedicated to the memory of my beloved Beethoven who was a black farm cat.

Currently we have Jack and Smokie.

In between we've had Mehdi (named for one of DH's employees), Missy, Holly Berry.

Our first cat was a black and white tuxedo cat. We never had all black but I think they’re gorgeous.

    Interesting fact:

In 1918, in Philadelphia, health officials ignored calls for social distancing and allowed a World War I victory parade to proceed. Within three days, all the hospital beds in the city were filled. Within a week, roughly 45,000 people were infected. Within six weeks, 12,000 were dead. The prospect of a repeat of that kind of mass manslaughter is frightening — especially when you consider that the 1918 influenza had a fatality rate of about 2.5 percent, compared to the 3.4 percent fatality rate for the coronavirus estimated by the World Health Organization.

Tuxedos are something we haven't had many of. Gordy was a long haired tuxedo; Nikki a short hair.

Black cats are fabulous; it is sad that many still consider them bad luck.

I went to the city today to have lunch with my niece. Afterwards, I went to WalMart to pick up some items. I couldn't resist taking a pic of the toilet paper aisle:

Jean, it must be universal. DH was at our Walmart today and saw the same thing. Since we were nearly out of it, he texted me to let me know he wasn’t able to get it. I was getting my nails done and my nail salon is next door to a grocery store. I had planned to stop in after my manicure anyway so I checked their TP aisle and found they had plenty of it. I bought a large package and DH was shocked to learn that their price was $5 less than Walmart’s price for the same item! He’s always thought this particular grocery store was extremely overpriced.

Apparently toilet paper is made - in large quantities - in the US. We don't even import it. So the shortages are sort of funny. (Not that we don't have a stash.)

We're starting to see some shortages here for the first time. Mostly in the toilet paper aisle and cleaner/sanitizer aisles.

I like to watch Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest in the morning while I finish my breakfast. It’s filmed in front of a live audience. As of yesterday, they have stopped having an audience. They had about 20 producers and staffers acting as an audience. Tampon Hall, The View and Dr Phil have made the same choice to help slow the spread of coronavirus. March Madness is going to play games without audiences as well. It’s probably a drop in the bucket but every little bit probably helps.

When I went to get my nails done yesterday I was expecting to have to wait a few minutes for an available tech because it’s Spring Break week here. However, when I arrived there was only 1 other customer and the woman who did my nails said it had been very slow all week, which they attributed to fears about the virus. The whole time I was there only 1 other customer came in. This place is usually very busy, so I’m sure the owner must be worried.

We aren’t hoarding TP or anything else at this point. We were legitimately needing some yesterday, lol!

I’m meeting friends for lunch today to celebrate my friend’s birthday. This is the friend whose birthday was actually in January, but her husband died suddenly 2 days after their shared birthday. She certainly wasn’t ready to celebrate with us any sooner. We have a beautiful day for it and we are going to a restaurant that has a nice outdoor patio.
