    Love the memes!

Well, yesterday was my outing to the city to take advantage of the opening of nail and hair salons, as well as to pick up my grocery order. Let's just say it was an interesting experience.

The nail salon is in the mall which is closed. When you arrive, you call the salon and they come to open the door and escort you to the salon, but first you have to get hand sanitizer from one of the hand sanitizer stations located in the mall. Plexiglass separated the technicians from their clients. When finished, I had to go to the bathroom so I was escorted to the entrance to the mall restroom. Afterwards, I was escorted to the mall door which was unlocked to permit me to go out and then relocked. I guess one of the conditions of the salong opening in a closed mall that the technicians would keep an eye on their clients. She told me that she was definitely getting in her exercise. Everyone in the salon wore masks.

I then ventured to the hair salon to wait in the car until I was called in. I had to complete a form including a variety of questions, including "Have you been out of country in the past few months (don't remember the number)." My temperature was taken and then I had to wash my hands. All of this which was recorded and put in the stylist's folder. The ear loops of my mask were moved to the side to permit cutting hair in that area and then replaced. Everyone wore masks.

I then went to WalMart and called the grocery pick up number. My groceries were put in the trunk, and despite the problems of getting meats, I actually got my frozen burgers I had on the list.

I left Walmart and decided to stop at Wendys on the way home as I love its apple pecan salad. I was able to get that salad plus a simple burger but the good burger combos were sold out. It was interesting to look at the menu on the board and see "not available" over so many selections.

Let's just say; it is a new world out there! Today, I opened my boxes from Amazon that were delivered yesterday. Looking back at yesterday, it was not as fun as the good old days because of the new routines but we will survive.

I wonder if Wendy’s was actually out of the combos. Most have double burgers. I can see them serving only regular burgers as a form of rationing the supply they have. Singles would serve more people. We went to the dealership for service. We needed oil, filter changes plus they check tires, batteries. The service was free but we opted to buy a $30 disinfection treatment. It was like the cleaning treatments some businesses have been doing which I’ve seen on the news.

There were only a handful of customers waiting and the service waiting room is large. Everyone was spread out but DH and I were the only customers wearing a mask. All the employees had masks and I used their hand sanitizers coming and going. We were there about 90 minutes and I felt a little stressed being there. It had to be done though because we have a 1500 mile drive home.

From there, we stopped at Culver’s for lunch. It’s a Wisconsin chain that serves. fresh burgers, chicken and fish sandwiches. I wondered if they’d be in Wendy’s boat. Dine in opened this week and the drive through was open with a long line. We walked up to the door and they had an employee sitting in front of the door under a canopy. She had a mask and gloves and took our order. They were only taking credit cards which was fine by me. She took our burger order, gave me a post it with a number on it to put on the window. Another employee brought the order out to the car. I felt very safe with their system and with having lunch in our car. Our only other stop was to fill the gas tank. Gas is much cheaper on the island.

I shopped at our local island market a few days ago. The TP shelves were full. It wasn’t name brand but I’ve bought it weeks ago and the quality wasn’t bad. I didn’t buy any because I have a dozen rolls at the house. The meat cases were also fully stocked. We’re competing with a much smaller number of shoppers than off island.

Thanks for the updates as to what's going on out there. It is certainly a brave new world.

I know eventually I'll need to venture out. My list of doctor/dentist/vaccinations etc. that are being missed is getting longer. Which are critical?

I guess everything depends on what you're thinking the timeframe may be. We're getting no help on that (see article excerpt below). I'm thinking it might be 1-3 years before it will really be safe to venture out and I'm analyzing my doctor/dentist stuff in that context. For which will it be more dangerous to wait 1, 2 or even 3 years than to do it in the next 6-12 months?

From the NY Times (emphasis mine):

The president of the United States and much of the Republican Party are signaling that all this suffering is unnecessary, a prim sort of virtue signaling. And they’ve squandered the time bought by the sacrifices of the citizenry, so there is no national plan for a safe reopening. The lockdowns thus seem to have no clear endpoint.

In a functional country, the federal government would be assuring people that all they’ve given up has been necessary and not in vain. In this one, it’s every state — and, in some cases, every person — for themselves. As Andy Slavitt, a senior health care official in the Obama administration, tweeted earlier this week, the Trump administration has essentially decided, “It’s a long and difficult road and after we climbed halfway we decided it was too hard and decided to roll back down the Hill.”

It’s humor and the kindnesses we hear of that gets us through this. And ignoring all the idiocy coming out of the White House.

If I can ever get an appointment with my hair dresser, I’m hoping I don’t come out like this!

Sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

And that became very clear this week as two former presidents -- George W. Bush and Barack Obama --showed a level of grace and class that has been missing for much of the last three-plus years, and especially over the last few months as the country (and the world) has battled coronavirus.

    Pam - good one!

After trimming my bangs twice now, they don't look too bad (I don't think).

Still can't decide if I want to risk coloring my hair at home or just letting it go silver. I'm such a klutz at do it yourself that I'm envisioning hair color everywhere.

What I have done is identify the product I think I'd use if I decided to risk it. But that's all the farther I've gotten.

It's 46 degrees outside here. I have a whole foods order coming today and a giant (supermarket) order coming tomorrow. I really do hate this and it's so time consuming. Every time I check my giant order something else is out of stock. Whole Foods lets it be a surprise.

I like the ones where I can adjust the order almost up to the end. I do wish, though, that they'd let you put in a percentage for the tip. How hard could that be to program???

The grocery stores I went by while feeding today had quite busy parking lots.

I suddenly remembered Livesmart (Schwann's) as I was driving to the colonies today. Almost everything on their website says "coming soon".

Once we get the new freezer, I may do a smallish NS frozen order.

Have you seen the clip of the orange cheeto puzzling over how someone can test negative one day and positive the next? He truly is a science ignoramus isn't he?

All the tests they're wasting on that administration. Geesh!

You could always try one of those rinse in bold colors. I’ve seen photos of some celebs who done pink, green, blue or purple hair. If you don’t like it, it washes out. A lot of teens use it. Don’t ask me what it’s called or where you buy it. I’m pretty gray in front and darker in the back. I like the way it looks when my haircut is up to date. I’m at the stage where my hair looks flat because it’s too long for me. I’ve also cut my bangs twice and it didn’t look bad. I’m not brave enough to cut the rest of it. If I still colored my hair, I’d consider doing a wash in color to see how it looked. I saw Rep. DeLauro on the news the other day.She represents my old state, CT. She’s my vintage and she had purple tipped hair. I don’t know if that’s her usual style or if it’s Covid hair.

I had to send that meme to my hair stylist. We are trying to grown the hair out, so when she finsihed the cut, she said one more trim would reveal 100% silver. I guess I will get used to it. It will be less expensive to maintain and a plus in dealing with the threats of a second wave when the first one is still washing the nation.

I’ve never regretted letting my hair turn natural. I still have enough of the darker color that it looks more like highlights. The interesting think is I had mousy brown hair when I was younger. Now the non grey hairs look much darker. To me, it looks almost black. My dad had black hair so it makes me think of him. I like the look much more than the color I was born with and it’s free. The only maintenance required is a haircut every 4-5 weeks. Of course now, I’m probably 8 or 9 weeks since my last haircut. Salons are reopening Monday but I think I’ll wait a while before going into one.

There are apparently face masks for sale on the Trump campaign web site.

    Campaign manager wearing one:

I made my mom's BBQ for dinner tonight. Just smelling it makes me think of her.

It's not the only one of her recipes I have but it's the only one in my skill set!

I can't believe wearing any political face mask, especially this one.

I’d have to add the circle with the slash to that face mask. NOT Trump or Pence. That would my improvement to that mask. I’ll bet they’re selling them for beau coup bunks. Or maybe big donors get one free.

I'm not about to go to their website to look at the cost. I've already gotten one robo call and one fund raising email from the idiot's campaign.

Just had an email from my best friend that she misses seeing me. Me, too. But the current administration seems to be willing to sacrifice those of us who are older folks with underlying health conditions. They've totally squandered the last 8 weeks or so of sacrifice everyone has made.

Emailed my sibs (I have one sister and two brothers - all younger) about celebrating mother's day by making mom's BBQ recipe and two of them already asked for the recipe. The two that are actually skilled chefs. So I apparently have something of value they don't have. Hee hee...

Interestingly DH is so easy to please he was fine with Sunday dinner being BBQ.

My nephew really knocked it out of the park yesterday for his wife and his mom. He cooked dinner for them. The menu was grilled lobster tails, seared scallops over risotto, and roasted Brussels sprouts. Oh, and homemade chocolate lava cakes with chocolate ice cream. DH is totally annoyed with him because it made him look bad, by contrast. I’m not a mother so I had no expectations of anything special yesterday, but DH better step it up for my next birthday, lol!

I don't have any nieces or nephews - wouldn't mind having one that could cook!

I dug out an ancient loose leaf recipe notebook I made decades ago, looking for mom's recipe because I remember it had a note on it and I wanted to pass it along to the sibs. I had forgotten I had it and several others in her handwriting. Scanned the BBQ recipe for my sibs and offered to scan the others, including a peach custard pie recipe that our town doctor gave my mom's mother when she came to help out after my baby brother was born. Ah, small town America!! LOL!!

I see I actually had a recipe for perfect piecrust. Ha ha........

My nephew really is an impressive young man. In addition to being extremely smart, he is a wonderful husband, father, son and friend. He is an only child and so is his wife, but neither exhibits any of the typical self-centeredness that you often see in only children. Im very proud of him, if you can’t tell, lol.

I lost a whopping 1/2 pound last week. At least it's a loss!
