Pam - I plan to stay home as well. It hurts to know it may be a year or more before things like cat shows and flea markets resume. For me those were social occasions in addition to being fund raising. We always had a great time and I was able to get out and see people which doesn't happen a lot. It also hurts to know that I feel it would be dangerous to visit my dad (since he and my two brothers that he lives with or sees weekly won't stay home) and to know that this all means my sister isn't likely to come East anytime soon (I haven't seen her since my uncle's funeral in early 2017). Other things like grocery shopping and hair cuts I can learn to live without. I'm still internally debating just which doctor/dentist appointments to do. In some ways I'm lucky that we're so daggone busy at work. I don't have a lot of time for fretting. But occasionally my mind does wander ahead in time. E.g. grocery deliveries in the dead of winter? In snow???? Then I tell myself to cut it out and get back to work. LOL!
I confess sometimes I wonder whether, if not for the cats, I'd bother with the struggle. I've had a good life, a good career, left a mark (I think). Will I still feel the cats warrant the struggle if the cheeto wins? I am frankly not sure.
On a lighter note, I am looking forward to the release of the Hamilton movie. Because it will be on so late tomorrow night, I'll probably watch it for the first time Saturday (but not, I'm sure, for the last time). YEAH! I've been getting ready by listening to the CD in my van (again) this week.
I'm going to go back to looking at those penguins in Melbourne and try to cheer myself up. I really do love that photo/story.0 -

I was watching the livestream NBC station in FT Myers. Many beaches in SW FL are closed this weekend. Sanibel has closed the beach parking lots and there’s a $200 fine for parking on street. I guess residents could walk to the beach. That wouldn’t be much of a crowd. Ft Myers is having 4 WWII planes do a flyover instead of fireworks and usual festivities. They’ll fly along the Coloosahatchie River and then fly over the city. Most of the city will see the planes from their backyards. I think that’s a nice way to make the holiday special without putting people at risk.0

In addition to Trump’s celebration on the national mall, tv listings show N.Y. having fireworks Saturday night. I’ll be happy to watch from home with no chance of exposure to Covid.
DH is getting his first haircut since March. He had to make an appointment. There was a 2 day wait for an opening. MA has strict conditions. It’s haircuts only. No eyebrows or beard trimming. Luckily DH can trim his own beard.He was pretty shaggy so I’ll be glad to see him looking like himself again.0 -
OMG. I was watching a news segment on how fireworks companies are suffering because 60-75 percent of their income comes from July fourth. The company being interviewed is doing the MT Rushmore fireworks. No fireworks have been allowed there for a decade because of the risk of fire and damage to the monument. They showed a clip of a Trump saying incredulously that they couldn’t have fireworks there because of the environment? And we all know how much he values protecting the environment! He said it’s stone...what can burn and of course he reversed the policy.0

Authorities expect mass evictions when restrictions prohibiting them are lifted in the city. I wonder how many animals will be abandoned/dumped/etc.

I ventured to the city today, the first time I've driven a long distance since my surgery 5 weeks ago. I just wanted out, plus get my nails done since the weather was good. I parked at the end of the mall with the entrance near the nail place. I found the doors locked. On my way back to the car, I saw some others try to get in.
I drove to the other side of the mall and saw the entrance near JCP was open. I went in and then had to walk clear to the other end of the mall to the nail place. Keep in mind that I've been sedentary for over 5 weeks. After getting my nails done, I had to walk back. I then went to the Outback for lunch and then returned home. I had no idea that I had gotten so out of shape. I had to lie down and rest when I got home.
There isn't anything going on here in my humble town for the 4th.0 -
I think a lot of businesses are restricting shoppers to using certain doors. That’s probably what was going on with the mall. I need a mani/pedi but I’m putting it off until next week. DH got his first haircut. He called Wednesday for an appointment and the first opening was Friday. He said it was pretty well organized. While he was out, I asked him to pick up a can of whipped cream. I had to line up at the store the other day and didn’t really feel comfortable. I suggested he go into the organic market down at our upscale shopping center. We only needed one item so I was willing to pay extra so he didn’t have to get into a crowd. Turns out that cream was $6.50. That’s about twice the price of the supermarket. Guess that’s why I don’t normally shop there.
We have no holiday plans except staying home.0 -
