Hi Waistaways - can't believe it's already April.
I'm Kay, 26, living in Boston. Been on the team since August and really loved the support system and motivation here!
That said - I actually decided that I am going to back away from calorie counting. This Wednesday will mark 500 days straight of logging and reaching my fitbit step goal and that's a LOT. I was just thinking that actually, since meeting my step goal meant 1-2 hours of walking at a minimum every day, I have basically not given my body a true rest day in a year and half. !!! MFP has definitely helped me lose weight, especially in the last 3 years (hovering around 45-50 lbs lost), but recently has not been working as well. I've been stuck in a restrict-binge cycle for maybe 6 weeks and I think I need to reassess my relationship with food. I have been too focused on numbers - scale, calories, steps, streaks, yada yada yada. I am actually going to take my fitbit off for a while too!
I won't be weighing myself for at least a good month I hope, and then more like every 2-3 weeks after, so I won't be fitting the bill for the F2F system, but hoping @jugar can put me on support team and I can still check in and read about all your journeys? (While embarking on my own!) I feel like I know someone of you by now and there is such progress being made here!3 -
Hi all.
I'm sorry I've been MIA for a couple of days.
I'm 39 and live in the UK. I'm a busy mum and student, working on a master's in mental health as a second career. I've been overweight/obese my whole life and have yoyo'd up and down a few times.
This time, I am trying to find that perfect balance of still allowing/enjoying my favourite foods while being mindful of moderation. I'm hopefull that this will mean losing the excess weight for good. I'm also at my fittest I've ever been, including running, something which I never thought I would find enjoyable.
I've been with Waistaways for a couple of years and the support has been invaluable. Although I don't post that often, I enjoy and am inspired by everyone's post.
Welcome all newcomers and good luck!5 -
Heyyyyy.... I'm Vikki, 49 live in Baltimore, Md.. ive been with the group for about 18 months.... the past 4 months I've been flip flopping alot, but I am ready to dive back in, my life is back to normal, so I'm ready to get back under 160 and stay there...

Hi WaistAways, I'm Courtney and I'm 40 years old and live in the National Capital Region of Canada with my husband and two cats (both of whom are also overweight according to the vet). I have just closed down my toolbox and traded up for a desk job working from home until the pandemic is behind us. I like the idea of working from home based on the cost of commuting, but I know there will definitely be struggles for weight loss since I'll be moving less and will have easier access to snacks! I had a high-stress desk job 5 years ago and ballooned to my highest weight ever. This new position is more relaxed but boredom can be an enemy to willpower just like stress can.
As for my weight loss story, I was very athletic in my youth but once I hit university and sports weren't an everyday thing, I failed to lower my calorie consumption to match. I've been gaining and losing the same 40lbs for almost 20 years, so this time, with all of the motivation around me like I've found in this group, I will finally stick to it, and learn to be satisfied with the calorie limit I should actually be consuming instead of my goldfish tendencies to eat until I want to explode. I had great habits and motivation when I first joined MFP back in August but have gotten comfortable in the size I've reached so I've relaxed my discipline with my calorie goal to the point that I overdo it on the weekends and then spend Monday and Tuesday trying to turn the bus around for my Wednesday weigh-in. Like others, I'm going to have to find a bit of a better relationship with food to have this last for the long term. I'm 9 lbs from my first major goal. I have added an exercise routine I don't hate and The Habit Tracker I started using in February really kept me on track! I've picked out the reward I want once I've earned it. I'm giving myself $5 a week for each week I complete my three goals so another couple of weeks and I should have accumulated enough to get it!
My goals for March are:
1. Log honestly every day, even if when I hit "Complete my Diary" I don't get the caption "Was under her calorie goal" at the end.
2. No drinking wine 5 days per week
3. Remember to drink water (at least 40oz)!
4. Do free weight exercise at least 3 times per week
With this new job I have regained an hour and a half of my day that I would have normally lost to driving back and forth to work. Home reno projects take a bit of that time because there's always SOMETHING on the to-do list, but that's an hour and a half DAILY that's now MINE where I should be able to dedicate a good portion of that to wellness, either in exercise or meal planning/prep.
I do want to commit to posting more often as I'm one of the guilty ones that tends to post mostly on weigh in day and I really appreciate all the sharing of stories and advice from members of this group so I need to step up and contribute!4 -

This makes a lot of sense. The numbers can be too much sometimes, and there is NO problem to stay on the support team for as long as you want to. You can read and post as much as you want - I am sure others will want to hear about how things go when the numbers, restrictions, and sometimes resulting binges get handled in a new way. Please keep us posted!!
Any time you decide you want to weigh in, even while staying on support, just go ahead and post it. It can still be valuable to see how you're doing on the scale from time to time.3 -
All right! Monday is coming to a close here, and the snow has stopped. Tomorrow should be lovely!
@gak71
The step/exercise team include anyone who would like to track daily steps and/or intentional exercise. It is a good way to commit to a step goal or to hit a certain number of minutes of exercise per day, and to see how you stack up against the others on the team if you're the competitive type! We have a chart to convert exercise minutes to an equivalent number of steps, so if you're not bit on step counting, you can still take part. I'm sure @micki48 will be posting more details, but go ahead and post your step count and exercise minutes if you're in! Exercise should include some info about intensity level if it is appropriate - for example, aerobics low impact, moderate, or intense. Bicycling average speed and how many minutes, etc. Some things are fairly consistent like Pilates or Yoga, so you don't need to give any more details than just the minutes. Once you start, if there are any clarifications needed we'll ask! Dive on in.
@Gidgitgoescrazy and @PlaneMonkey
You've got this! Now that new work patterns are settling in, it looks like you have the good plans to make it work. It isn't going to be like the last time @PlaneMonkey !!2 -
Sunday, we celebrated Passover. I decided to not follow keto that night and was planning on having a (one) sweet. I did good with dinner but went whole hog on desserts, which I was not planning, but everything looked and tasted sooo good. Today I was out of ketosis and my blood sugar was okay, but much higher than it had been reading.

One day of sweets won't do much harm - as long as you get back on track right away which you did! I hope you enjoyed it even so.
Reminder!
Monday weigh-ins still due ---

Thanks!
We have a day off for weigh-ins tomorrow, so come up with a question or a topic you'd like to toss around. Tuesdays are good for that3 -
I had some unexpected things come up and was still able to stay within my goals. I think staying on track when things aren't "perfect" has been a general downfall of mine, so I'm proud of myself.
Nice to read everyone's introductions!7 -
@Kali225 I can relate to how you are feeling right now. I really enjoyed doing something different for a few months. I hope you enjoy changing gears and continue to make progress with your health goals.
Today I woke up really tired and had not really prepared for the work week. I got going and packed up my lunch and breakfast. Luckily work was low key. We have a short week and start conferences with parents on Wednesday. I got a call today that our new couch is in. I wasn't expecting it for a few weeks. I went shopping for a rug so I am ready for the delivery. I stayed in my calories but it was hard today. I worked out for 40 minutes before getting the kids to bed. My scale is not budging and I am getting a little worried. I will keep on and hopefully it gets going by Thursday!5 -
Its great to read everyone's posts and get restarted/refreshed for April.
@YinxFed I loved reading your breathing routine - it was like I was breathing and stretching along with you! I tend to hear the alarm and get right up. It would help me to slowly wake and appreciate that moment.
@PlaneMonkey congrats on getting all that time back for yourself!
I went to the US to visit my family last week on sort of a last minute decision. My sister was in town and it just felt like the right time to go. Luckily I can travel back to the US easily. My mom has some signs of Parkinson's so we got her to the doctor and ensured she was honest. The visit was eye-opening and reminded me of the value of my health and the limited time we have with the ones we love.
Obviously while home I had to have some amazing BBQ and Mexican food and ice cream and sweet tea... But not a one meal and with friends/family. Its funny the things we miss. I did take a few walks and ran during the week which was a nice balance. After traveling I feel like I need a detox in so many ways.6 -

Have forgotten exact PW last week, sorry to say. More than this week by a good bit anyway...

Morning all. Down to 83.6 this morning - looking good for an 83.X start to April!
Last night I was able to run with two friends - first time this year we've been allowed - so really enjoyed it. About an hour before we were to meet I did some mobility work, including quad and hip flexor stretches, which helped. I was still achy, but did warm up. My body is funny though; we did a bit of trail for the first time (I used to do quite a lot and hated road running to start with) and my body immediately went "WTF?! We run on the roads now woman, what are you doing?" I need to incorporate some sprints and trail into my week for better conditioning. Not sure if this will be as part of the group runs or separate sessions. I am running 5km on the regular now which is great progress.
Carpet fitting in the spare room today, which puts us one step closer to getting the gym back at the garage. The village gym is opening back up soon, and we're going to try to sign up there as well because it's not expensive. You get a key so you can go any time (I'd make sure I wasn't alone) and it's a 5 minute walk from the house so there's not many excuses not to go. I'm just hoping they have a decent selection of free weights, as I'm not a fan of machines.3 -
hi, a quick intro, I'm Sylvia,52, in Massachusetts. I've been with F2F for just over a year and it was the accountability I needed. Did well and then plateaued since August and just recently creeping up again as I've really lost my focus & drive. Getting back onboard as I want to fight my way down about 12 pounds....and then...KEEP them off and feel really great this summer. In and out (due to covid) to a local office job (the alternate weeks when I'm home-my eating is not so good) and live in caregiver to elderly parents. Gardening gigs on the side. My own garden crying for attention. Whoever on F2F who recommended dill pickles as a snack - thank you! I cut them up into little 'nickels' and makes for a great nibble.2
-
Good morning all, this morning was a good one, did 20 min of aerobics and 7 min of hiit, and packed some shoes to take a walk at lunch. Haven't had a chance to walk around this new office so today is an adventure.
Have a great day!

@ashleycarole86
Isn't it a great feeling when you stay true to your commitments in spite of unexpected things happening? That's also a good thing to remember when things are boring or we feel in need of a "reward". WTG!!
@conleywoods
I'm so jealous! A new couch is in my future this summer as well, but choosing one is my nightmare. I'd much rather get something (gently) used, but my husband has such terrible asthma that we cannot take a chance on any allergens travelling in. Post some photos of yours so I can get some ideas, ok? And you are amazing getting your workout done with work, kids, carpet buying, and meal prep. What a star!
@Steph1498
Your visit home sounds lovely. I hope your mom is OK - I am 100% certain that having you home made her feel less anxious and very, very happy. Any ice cream consumed did not count, I'm sure!
@smaidiigaa
YES! That was a great week - congrats! Down 2.7 pounds You'll be on the leaderboard this week, I'll bet.
@DD265
I love your self talk! Run on trails and tell that road-running woman to broaden her horizons!
@eggfreak
12 pounds, eh? Give it 6 months - it gets real slow as you get close to goal, and sticking to .5 lb per week helps prevent discouragement and burnout. That's just an average - some weeks more, some nothing at all - and this summer you WILL be feeling amazing! Break out those short shorts for gardening
@Gidgitgoescrazy
There's the Vikki we know and love - aerobics, HIIT, and an adventure walk. Yes!
I need an adventure walk today too. It is temporary summer after yesterday's crazy snowstorm, and then tomorrow is wild thunderstorms then more snow. Gotta love the weird spring we get here... Enjoy your beautiful day!3 -
I forgot to post this picture that I took on my Sunday walk. Apparently this guy randomly creates a rock sculpture every time he passes. I love this one that we came across on Sunday. I think I might print it out and frame it as it's such a peaceful image.

@jugar Good luck couch hunting. I spent a year looking for one and researching styles and fabric vs leather. I need a couch for all 5 of us but to fit my small house. That was the really hard part! It's a bit lighter than I was originally looking for but my kids aren't so little anymore. Another benefit of a small house is no eating on the couch because the dinning table is literally right next to it! My kids can't argue with that one. I picked this one but mine has one less seat across so it fits. Our last couch had a nice long life. Fingers crossed that this one does too!

@jugar
How many steps will 50 minutes of reformer Pilates count as for the step/exercise team?
Pilates in general counts for 100 steps per minute, so that would be 5,000. The chart I use is here:
https://www.arhs-nc.org/live-healthy/data/StepConversionChart.pdf
but I do make some adjustments - I find than many of the counts are for very high intensity, so I tend to go a bit conservative on some of the higher numbers.2 -
OK! I get to have a good nag-fest tonight. Some weigh-ins are overdue, and more are coming up tomorrow! Don't make me come after you, now!Just post your current weight here - the good, the bad, the fab, the sad - whatever it is we can learn from it and go on better than before! If you don't remember last week's, that's ok. As long as this week's is there, all is well.

Hi team! Things are back to "normal" here for the most part, although my usual walking buddy (my husband) is recovering from surgery, so it's just me and my dog for my walks.
I am doing really well with my hydration goal, which isn't a strength of mine. I'm one of these people who "doesn't like water"... I do enjoy the feeling of being hydrated though (minus all the peeing!)
I am thinking ahead to the upcoming long weekend and hoping to plan another long distance walk for myself. I do find the extra calories earned very motivating!4 -
Just checking in. I woke up late this morning. No time for coffee. Don't know how I made it through the day. Taco tuesday but I Just have the meat cheese and salsa , no tortillas..6
-
It was Taco Tuesday here too! This week was fish tacos. So good!! So tough to stick to the amount I'm allowed within my calorie goal but I did it!
One thing I've come to find during the pandemic is that any of our local fast food places don't stock side salads or anything that isn't salty or fried anymore since they claim they couldn't guarantee supply when businesses kept shutting down. It's become a big problem for us on any day we venture into town to run errands after work and get stuck away from home past meal time. I find there's no healthy options for me out of the house. I either cave in and blow through my calorie goal with a burger or else I insist I eat once I'm home but he's welcome to pick up anything he wants.... and hubby pouts cause if I'm not willing to eat takeout then he won't eat takeout so he just sits there, hangry. And pouty. Who knew that a McDonald's side salad could be a marriage saver? Canada has limited fast food compared to the US to begin with and our corner of Quebec is even a barren desert compared to Ottawa just across the river. Who knew a Wendy's Taco salad could be such a hot commodity!?!? Does anyone have a go-to for when you find yourself out of the house and you hadn't prepped or planned for it?2 -
Hi everyone. Loved reading all the posts. Busy week here. Family getting vaccinated. Son moving. We’re traveling to see him after Dr visit on Thursday.
STEP TEAM INFO
So, step team. Last month we had a lot of blanks. I guess some folks who said yes to the team, ended up changing their mind because life happens. That is ok. It happens. But if you join and later decide it’s not right for you this month, please let me know so I don’t look for steps.
Now that that is out of the way, we have a team step challenge. If you are interested in joining, let me know. All you need to do when you let me know is tell me what your daily step goal is and post your daily steps. You may post daily or all at once on Sunday. Our week runs Sunday to Saturday. We are now in Week 1.
When I have seen and recorded your steps, I will mark your post “insightful”. At the end of the week, I will post weekly results with total team steps, top steppers, and those steppers meeting their daily goal 4 or more days. Also when you post steps, please don’t bury the steps in a longer post. (It can be hard to find. )
THANKS!
