My confession is that I had wine with my meal last night. Now I am back to day one. I think if I had a few more days built up since my previous glass, I wouldn't have been tempted to have a glass. So here I try again! Other than that, I did well. We shared a meal so that means half of the calories.

Good that you are still able to get your nails done Paula. I know you mentioned that it might be getting too difficult to get to the salon. I think it's great to go as long as you can. It's good for your mental health to get pampered and the movement is probably good too. Great Craig can help. You can enjoy your company and get back to full compliance once they leave.

Sharing a meal is a great strategy Shari. Some restaurants give pretty good sized portions. I enjoy having nice nails. My nails on their own are very soft and tear easily and hence look terrible. I started getting my nails done in 1997 after my father died. It lifted me up a little and for the most part I have kept with it. But it is getting so difficult to get to the salon. Craig knows a woman who is a nail tech, and he put me in touch with her after yesterday's salon appointment. This woman is considering coming to my home to do my nails. It would cost a little more but would be worth it if we can work it out. I asked my current nail tech if she would consider coming to my home to do my nails but she isn't interested.

I did well with my food choices today....chicken for supper, an old standby. John and I worked hard during the day doing more house prep as Craig was delayed and couldn't get here till about 5:30. He did what we couldn't do and finished in about 2 hours. Little by little things here are shaping up for the arrival of our family tomorrow. I will do my best to check in while they are here....we'll see how it goes.

I hope it works out that Craig's contact is able to come to you so you can keep your nails done. That would be wonderful for you Paula. Have a great time visiting with family!

I get to work from home today and that is wonderful. We have our Bible study group tonight and it starts with dinner. I will be able to eat lightly during the day and hopefully enjoy a small portion of what is served. It would be nice to see the scale inch one number down this weekend! I am super thankful that my dinner out on Wednesday didn't push me back up. That is progress.

Shari I hope all went smoothly with your Bible study and that the food was within a reasonable range for your eating plan.

Our family arrived safely and we had a great evening with them. So good for us to be all together. We had delivery from one of our favorite Italian restaurants. I had my usual shrimp wrap so no diet damage there. We talked and laughed and had a great time. More of the same tomorrow. My friend is bringing us home made halupki (filled cabbage) so that will be easy again. Still working on a meal plan for Sunday for when our upstate relatives come here as well. They are bringing a fruit salad. I am still not sure about what else I will serve. All 4 of our relatives have been very helpful and kind and understanding about my condition. This is the first time they have seen me in 4 years and my decline is obvious. But I know they care and understand.

The study went very well. We were served burgers, they were so big! There was pie for dessert, I had two bites and then DH came and took my plate (we had pre-arranged that). I could have done with a smaller burger but there was no significant damage on the scale- at least this morning. If I do well today, I am hoping that I maintain. A loss would be welcome of course. I have been dancing up and down the same 2 pounds for awhile now.

Sounds like your family visit is going well Paula. That is wonderful.

I had a good day being on track. I did have a decaf latte in the evening. I have quit drinking coffee for a season to see if that will help reduce my bloating. So far it hasn't. The reason I had a latte is that DH and I have volunteered to serve in the coffee shop at church and the latte was part of watching training. I haven't made anything myself yet. We enjoyed our evening and look forward to doing it again.

Working at the coffee shop at church sounds like fun, but I am such a coffee lover I couldn't do it without drinking the coffee. A latte sounds good too Shari!

Our family weekend continues till the Texas crew goes back on Tuesday. The upstate cousins came today, and it was really great to see the 30-something year old cousins catching up with each other in person. We also face timed with another cousin (age 15 years) who is currently living in France with his dad (parents are divorced). Lots of food, but I didn't over do it. I did have a glass of wine but none of the desserts. I think I was too tired to eat much! Our plans are not certain for tomorrow, but of course will include more meal planning!

Sounds like your family visit is going very well Paula. That's great!

I had a very quiet day yesterday. I was pretty low key and worked on a puzzle for most of the day. I did make some hot pepper jelly, which didn't take long to do or much effort. I made tomato soup for dinner.I need to get using up the tomatoes. They won't last much longer. Neither will the few cucumbers that I have left. I need to start back with no wine! Today is day 1. I forgot about my plan and since my day was so lazy and it was so cold and windy outside, felt like sipping on some wine when we watched TV before bed. No snacks though!

If I can keep up these habits I think I will see a downward trend soon. I am not going up as much when my weight is at the upper end. It sure does bounce around!

Shari, home made tomato soup sounds perfect for a cold windy day! Yay on no snacks! You are on a roll!

We said good bye to our Texas family tonight. Their plane leaves tomorrow. John is already missing them. I will miss them too, but right now I am just tired. I really didn't have to do much but stay awake and give some directions. My 2 female cousins (ages 76 and 72) just made themselves right at home and did mostly everything that needed to be done. So did the others who came too. We are so blessed. My food choices were not bad but I didn't log any meals. WW is sending me notices to get back to logging. I will plan to resume tomorrow.

No loss yet but I think it's coming in the next day or two if I can stay on track. I really hope so. It will be so motivating!

I am so glad that your family visit went well Paula. Company is wonderful but it is tiring too. You will be back to logging and catching up on rest now.

Hope everyone's day goes well. Can't wait to hear how your job is going DW.

You are right about a loss helping motivation Shari! Keep up your discipline and healthy attitude.

I am very much on track today (in my head) but neglected to log my food. No problem with that today since I know I didn't over do any choices. All of our family have returned home safely. We and they miss each other so much already. The love and closeness we share is truly awesome. I worked in a little rest today and would have enjoyed more but had a lot to do in my effort to return our home back to somewhat normal. Tomorrow is haircut day for me and John, and I think I might include a small grocery pick up as well. I think Thursday can be my first truly restful day.

    Same weight today.

Glad that your family was able to get home safely Paula. I am sure they really cherished your time together.

It's my long day today and I will have lots of steps. Maybe that will help boost my metabolism and I will be able to celebrate some weight loss.

    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,094 Member
Getting in a lot of steps is healthy any way you look at it and then the potential for a drop in weight. Win-win.

A busy day here ...John and I got our hair cut and then did a grocery pick up, bringing in the order ourselves. I haven't done that in quite some time as I have been depending on Craig or deliveries. It was a challenge, but we did ok. I was pleased. Buster was along for all of this and seems to enjoy such adventures. I did fine with eating and wasn't terribly hungry (yay). Tomorrow is a rather low demand day for me (yay again), but I will have a to do list for sure.

Hello! I'm glad you are both doing well!! Paula, so happy that your visit with your family went well!! Things here have been a tad stressful. It is a bit of a shock being back to work and setting an alarm. It's a good thing that I enjoy the job!! Today was my first day driving a route by myself...let's just say that there is A LOT of room for improvement!! I am learning and tomorrow will be better!!
Our dog has not improved so today DH took her to a specialist in Columbus, about 2 hrs away. At their suggestion, he called and got me on speaker phone so that I could hear the Dr and ask questions (I was on my mid day break from work). She has a torn ACL and will need surgery. We are going to our national dog gathering next week and I will have to withdraw her from everything she is entered in-3 shows and a Rally Trial (still no refunds). If I didn't have responsibilities at the gathering, I would cancel my reservations and stay home. We do plan to come home a day earlier than originally planned and that will save the cost of a hotel night. Her healing will take 6 weeks post surgery and I don't know about therapy or rehab after that. I will try to get on tomorrow night and check in. Have a good evening!!

DW- it sounds like you have a lot on your plate at the moment. Taking on your first route! Glad you have a positive attitude towards improving. You will! Very hard news about your dog needing surgery and that you have responsibilities at the dog gathering when you don't get to participate anymore. The main thing is getting your dog healed and back to full physical health and mobility.

I am up in weight today. I had a meal out and I am hoping it's just the salt. I should have had lots more water and will drink more today to see if I can quickly flush it out. I didn't overeat, it just wasn't a healthy choice. I also had a glass of wine with my meal. So I am back to Day 1 of no alcohol. I feel like it's a lot of starting over with this and that's not good! So my goal is that my streak with starts today. I got this.

Oh DW, so much to cope with at one time. Special prayers for your strength and for you girl's healing. Nice to read that you enjoy your job! Is part time as in every day or part time as in just some days?

Shari, we all know what salt will do to us! And yet it is in so many foods. Ugh! Don't stress over the wine. I don't see much harm in wine if you fold it into your food plan on certain days. But of course if you think it contributes to bloating, well that is different then.

I did well with my food choices today. Back to healthy chicken for supper and eggs for breakfast. I didn't so so well with my to do list, getting very little done. I am still somewhat tired and didn't push myself. My friend Kellie and her DH are coming tomorrow evening for pizza (and wine for the girls and beer for the guys). So I must get this house into better shape. Maybe I will do better under pressure.

Hello! Shari, it does sound like salt is the culprit! I hope the water drinking has gone well! Paula, your evening with friends sounds like fun! Thank you for the prayers!
The surgery is scheduled for 10/17, so we will definitely come back from our trip a day earlier than originally planned. DH will take her to Columbus again. A friend of ours who lives in that area has offered to meet DH at the veterinary hospital and hang out with him. I thought that was so kind!
My job is 5 days /week, a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon. I just found out that I can work as many hours as I want without losing benefits since I have Medicare, so I might ask for additional opportunities. Nothing else is new here. Unfortunately healthy eating has been on the back burner and I need to revive my motivation. Have a Good evening and a GREAT Friday!!

My water drinking didn't go too well yesterday but I work from home today and that will make it much easier to do.

That's great you have more company Paula. You have many people in your life that care about you. Nice to have a job that isn't full time DW. That gives you time in the middle of the day to get things done.

We have our Bible study tonight. I had planned to host but now DH is sick with a cold so we swapped hosting nights with another couple. DH won't be able to go but he does need rest so he can get better, plus he doesn't need to risk sharing it.

DW, How sweet of your friend to offer support for your DH while your girl undergoes her surgery. Prayers will continue. And nice that you don't need to worry about earning too much to jeopardize your benefits. Sounds like you found a good job for yourself.

Shari, Hope your DH is feeling better! Nice that you were able to switch Bible study responsibilities.

Our friends Kellie and Greg were here as planned, and as usual, we had a great time. We are truly blessed to have such dear and understanding friends. I always remind them they are Buster's Godparents since it is Kellie who took John and me to get Buster from the rescue. They are dog lovers too, and just this week, lost one of their 3 dogs to cancer. We had very thin crust pizza which, in combination with my other food choices today, has kept me on track again. My energy level today was just about back to normal (woo hoo!). I am so pleased with what I accomplished, with John's help of course. Our house was perfectly ready to entertain. I am planning to have the weekend to rest again. Tomorrow is predicted to be very rainy here....a good time to read and relax.

Wishes for a good weekend for all of us!

I am super thankful that the next few days are to be warm and sunny. We will be able to put a few more things away in preparation for winter. I will also be thankful for the movement for my body. I sat a lot for my working hours and then didn't do too much in the way of exercise.

Dinner at Bible study was pizza last night. I just had two slices. I am hoping that is it for eating out for a while now. I can't flush out the sodium if I keep on eating it. My weight crept up a bit more so I need to be vigilant this weekend and get it back down.

Sounds like pizza was the menu item for you and me on Friday Shari,...a tasty Friday treat I'd say. This was a chilly day with rain off and on, but not the steady downpours that were predicted. I made ground turkey tacos for supper tonight, a satisfying choice for a chilly PA day. I stayed on track today and even logged my food, which prompted a nice email from WW who probably thought I had vanished! I am proud to say I accomplished most of the items on my short to do list today, but one remains that I must take care of in the next few days. Sunday will definitely be restful for me. I am also expecting a visit tomorrow from my friend who made the halupki for us last weekend. She is coming to pick up her pot and visit for a while.

This morning I happy to report that I am back down to where I started before I had all the restaurant meals. The sodium is now gone. Now I am ready to see the scale drop a bit so that I can celebrate some weight loss. I am so close again.

Today looks like a beautiful day. It's sunny and should be fairly warm outside. We did a lot of work around the house yesterday so that we can truly enjoy a day of rest today. We have a thanksgiving meal at a friends house later. I know I can stick to my meal plan and watch my portion size.

Shari, Congrats on flushing out that sodium. You are on your way to a pleasing weigh in. Happy Thanksgiving. I forgot that you celebrate in October.

My Sunday was not as restful as I anticipated. My friend didn't come to pick up her halupki pot, but another friend from my old church dropped by unexpectedly and stayed a lot longer than I would have expected. She is 80 years old and lives alone (no children, husband died in 2011) so I am always happy to be there for her. Later I had a phone call from another 80 yr old church friend whose DH passed last year. She almost never calls me on a Sunday, so I knew something was up when she called. I talked her through her issue and was glad I could help. She told me I was the only person she could talk to about this. I then had 3 more church friends call on other different issues. I think I am truly missed at church!

I was on track for most of the day but caved to a chocolate craving....no it wasn't even dark chocolate. I reached the top of my points but will be more serious tomorrow I expect. John is having a friend from church visit him for lunch tomorrow. John is asking me to order delivery from one of our favorite Italian restaurants, so he and his friend can have a treat. I am fine not having to cook for them! I will order for myself too but will focus on a healthy choice.

We had a pretty good day. I had a full plate at dinner, but DH helped me out by finishing the dessert I was served. I didn't drop any weight yet, but I won't give up trying. Today I making ham, potatoes and carrots for two of my kids. I also need to make cinnamon buns for DH. I hope I won't be too tempted by them. I think I will allow myself one. Be hard to not have one at all. It should be a simple dinner and I am not worried about overdoing it. Ham is salty, but I will drink lots of water throughout the day and I won't have very much of it.

It's very nice to have this extra day off and then a short week.

Shari, your Thanksgiving meal sounds great. Nice to be able to spend some time with your sons and to have a shortened work week!

I had a good on track day today. John's friend came today for lunch and stayed 5 hours! They had a lot of catching up to do I guess. He also helped us with a few little chores that Craig would typically do. We appreciated that. We got delivery for lunch. I had a chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, tomato, and lettuce. It really satisfied me. It didn't come with fries which helped me stay on track. Now I am working on tomorrow's to do list. I am planning to keep it reasonable.

Good Morning! Shari, I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!! I also hope that your DH is feeling better!! Paula, I wish I was still in touch with friends like you are!! It seems that we've all become busy in our own little worlds.....when I get back from this upcoming trip, I plan to reach out to a couple of people and make an effort to activate our friendships once again!
The talk of pizza reminded me - when I park for work, I park behind a pizza restaurant. The mornings are fine but in the afternoons, all I can smell is pizza. I've been wanting to eat there every day but haven't done it yet-maybe tonight...
I have also been battling salt consumption...one can of soup, which was low in calories, must have been high in salt-an instant 2.5 lb gain. I have not been able to consume the water that I could before working but maybe once I get to SC, I can work on it.
Tomorrow around this time, I should be driving toward South Carolina for the dog gathering. We are packing a lot of stuff that belongs to the club that I have been storing for years. Once this gathering is over, I am resigning my position on the committee that I've been on and I hope to pass on some of the stuff to new committee members throughout the coming year. That would free up a lot of my limited storage space! I hope you both have a wonderful Tuesday!!

I agree with DW. You are so good at keeping in contact with friends and therefore have a lot of dear friends Paula. I am not so good at that. I get busy in my current reality and I don't reach out often enough to those that have lives taking them to spend time in other circles.

We all had pizza lately DW, it might be your turn lol. Safe travels as you head to the dog gathering.

I am off to the office today. It's to be our last nice day outdoors and then we head into more chilly weather. I wish I could work from home today. I would be able to take a few quick walks around the farm on my breaks.

No weight loss to show up on the scale yet. I am holding steady. Fingers are crossed.

DW, Yes the sodium content in some soups can be very disconcerting! I cook with very little salt, but the salt added to prepared store bought soups is way to high, just like in restaurant food. Will be thinking of you as you travel to SC and offering prayers for your safe travels. Woo Hoo for gaining some storage space as you conclude your club responsibilities.

I have always valued true friendships and recognize the need to work at maintaining them. I think this stems from growing up as a fairly lonely only child. I spend my childhood longing for a sibling, who never came! I think that is why I remain so close to so many cousins too.

I started out ok today, but my will power waned as the day went on. Once again I am at the top of my points and used some of my "weekly" extra points...very frustrating and a result of bad planning on my part. On a brighter note, I accomplished all of the important "to dos" on my list. Tomorrow has a hefty and challenging list...hoping for the best.

Last night I spent some time in the basement seeing if I could find things to throw out. I put things away, but I didn't up throwing anything out. I am hoping that will come soon! I have too many things that we just don't use.

My eating was on track but my scale just won't nudge below the number I am hoping for. Maybe it will happen this week. I really hope so!

It can be difficult to part with some things, even those we don't use. I got rid of a lot of unused items in my kitchen and still feel good about it, but it took me quite a while to actually be motivated to part with those things.

I did ok today again. I haven't been near the scale in quite a while. I am giving myself more time to lose whatever I gained over the past few weeks with my company, etc.
I accomplished a lot of my to do list today and am pleased that I got through one major chore. Thursday will be an easier day for me. I am telling myself I earned it!
