I’ve been trying to increase my steps, using my new Fitbit. Last week, I had 5 days of 7000+ steps a day. My weekly mileage was just over 20 miles for the week. I was pretty tired yesterday and only did 5,000 steps yesterday. I figure I could push a bit more on the other days this week to keep up my average.0

Yesterday was such a flurry of rescheduling due to the weather forecast. It didn't help that I ended up actually calling some people and b/s'ing awhile. I looked at the clock and wondered where my day went. This is the third time in my memory that the mid-March cat show has had a nasty weather forecast. DH and I like to think of March 1 as the beginning of spring. And certainly anything we get after March 1 doesn't linger But we do get the occasional March bad weather event.
BUT the good news is that I suddenly have a little more free time to work on the newsletter. I've been outlining it in my head as I drive around this week. That's almost always my first step, weird though it may sound. I also took time to pull all my photos from everyone from wherever they are onto a USB stick (I write the newsletter on a program that only runs on my older computer. It's not hooked up to the internet so I have to transfer them manually.0 -
Like many others, I am waiting for the big snow late Friday into Saturday. Right now, they are talking a minimum of 6 to 12 inches. Guess who was to go into the hospital over an hour away on Saturday. I guess I'll be going to the city on Friday afternoon and stay at a hotel close to the hospital. I called scheduling to make sure they had my cell number. At that time, I was informed there was no guarantee I would have a bed and wouldn't know until Saturday morning. I was also told that availability had been limited this week.
So I stay overnight in the hotel and likely will not have a bed in the hospital. At the same time, the roads are so bad that I can't go home which will require another night at the hotel. This was the first time they could get a tentative hospital bed reservation to monitor this "wonder drug" that can create major problems for some people. Cardiology thinks this needs to be done soon but if they cancel they have no idea when they can get another "non urgent" hospital bed reservation. The only people who won this year were the Covid patients. After the surge was over, the beds were being filled by emergency patients, elective surgery people and those like me who have to be monitored when a new drug is started.0 -
Jean, fingers crossed that the weather cooperates and your hospital appointment is a go. Good luck.0
-
Jean - crossing my fingers too!!! Wishing you all the best!0

Jean, I’m hoping you get a bed, the weather cooperates, and starting the new drug is uneventful!
I saw the PA for my ortho doc today and he was very happy with my progress. My range of motion for both my elbow and wrist is almost 100% at this point, and I have very little pain now as well. The only issue is that I still have no feeling in my little finger and the side of my hand. The PA said if that is still the case at my next appointment in 3 months they would then look at ordering some conduction tests.
After that appointment we headed south to visit DH’s family for the weekend. Today we had temps in the 70’s and tomorrow another cold front with temps in the 20’s will arrive. I think Mother Nature is bipolar!0 -
Pam - mostly great news from the ortho doc! Mother Nature is bipolar. We're having a mix of rain and snow as I type.0

We’re starting to dip our toes into back into normal. We went to a potluck at our church Thursday night. We sat with a few friends and enjoyed the evening. Yesterday, we went on a sunset cruise from the local marina. The friend we dog sat for invited us as a thank you. There were only about 10 passengers so I felt pretty comfortable with the spacing. The captain was great at spotting dolphins. He knew the places they like to hang out. And it was a really nice sunset over the bay.0

That sounds really cool!0 -

Who ate the tuna in that lunch? Was it the dog?0

It is brutally cold here this morning. I think I'll wait a little to go feed. Sunday's not a day I need to be out at the crack of dawn to avoid congestion on the "car street".0

I lost 2 pounds last week. Surprised me because I wasn't that good yesterday. I'm planning packets 4 days this week, 3 days of enjoying myself for my birthday, and then 3 or 4 more days of packets. In hopes of enjoying myself without doing a lot of damage.

Grocery store today - few masks (makes me see red!). Emptiest aisle is probably the cat food aisle. I was going to concentrate on using up my surplus but with all the talk about new shortages maybe that's not the best plan. Who ever thought we'd have to deal with such things in our lifetime?0

We went out to dinner last night. There’s a cute restaurant at the marina just down the street. We opted to sit outside. We had a view of the boats and the water. It was so relaxing and the seafood was delicious.0

We are home now after our trip down to see DH’s family. I’m really glad we came home today instead of tomorrow as DH had originally proposed, and he is too. There’s always a lot of chaos with them and 3 days is about all I can take before I’m losing my mind. It wasn’t too bad until last night when 2 more extended family members of our nephew’s wife arrived and then it was uncontrolled mayhem with them getting the almost 4 and almost 7 year old kids all revved up and out of control. I had to bite my tongue hard to keep from saying anything, but I knew it wouldn’t have gone over well if I had. The kids’ mom told them to knock it off a couple of times, but that usually lasted about 2 minutes then started up again.
On our way home today we were almost in a head on collision when a car that was behind us decided to cross 3 lanes of traffic, then hit a post, spun around, hit a guardrail, spun again, and ended up directly in front of us and coming toward us. DH stood on the brakes and so did the other car and we ended up coming to a stop about 5 feet apart. The driver of the other car kept overcorrecting, making it impossible to anticipate where the car was going next. DH had slowed as much as he could when he first realized what was happening, which is how the car that had been behind us ended up in front of us. Very scary! In the moment I was thinking “We just can’t total another car this soon!” I think it took at least 10 minutes for our heart rates and BP to come back down to anything approaching normal.0 -
Boy that’s scary. Kudos to your husband on his excellent driving skills. Glad you weren’t injured.0
-
Pam - I second that - sounds terrifying!!!! I'm so glad you're both okay.0
-
Cable and internet out all afternoon. Sort of scary considering what's going on, especially when I called a lawyer in Ohio and found out she doesn't have electricity0
-
Jean, any update on your hospital procedure?0

Cooking corned beef and cabbage for dinner. It smells delicious.0

That may be my new favorite phrase!0
