Skipped the gym this morning due to heavy thunderstorms and a few tornadoes around. So I did the therapy exercises which are still difficult. Tomorrow back to the gym rainβ›ˆοΈβ˜”οΈ or shine 🌞

Went back to the gym today and put forth full effort. I went on Monday but only did one class and if I'm honest with myself I half assed it. I didn't do any workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Today I feel good. I went and gave it my all. 1 hr of water aerobics followed by 1 hr of water bootcamp. Lots of exercise happening this weekend with my OA campout. 8 hours of service projects will sure wear me out!

Gym this morning. Argghh! Not really enjoying it. I’d probably sleep in if hubby wasn’t up, dressed and raring to go. Thank goodness he is a disciplined exerciser - me not so much but I have no good excuses.

Sometimes we need a person to kick our butts Yooly! Glad your husband is there to do it.

Yes - I rely on my pup - but :( I can buy her off with a treat ... very bad and I don't do it often ... but it works because like her owner she is a bit of a pushover when it comes to food.

Pffft.... mine slaps me around! You should have seen the put upon face for "cutting" us short at 98 minutes instead of extending to at least two hours. If there existed a dog house, I would be IN it!

Gym this morning. It was near freezing at 5:30 am so gym gear and a good coat for the drive in. But the exercising was still a struggle. Not yet in a regular good rhythm. More Tylenol!

I'm crossing fingers and hoping hoping hoping to be rowing next week! Drains out on Saturday (my goal - if I can just stop draining :) ) Give that a few days to heal, then I think I'm good to row :)

I'm so glad (or maybe not???) that my pup has been giving me lots of latitude - rather than attitude - of late. She's a very understanding girl.

As long as she doesn't help with the wound clean up?😳

She is aware - but I think it was a bit much so she stayed clear other than some sniffing :)

Gym this morning. It’s getting a bit easier. I’m back to my pre vacation/injury repetitions with a struggle. I’m hoping. In a week or two I can start increasing time and weights a bit. Right now it’s amping up the in cline on the treadmill.

If only it was fun instead of a chore. I miss my long outdoor walks but have to accept my limitations πŸ₯Ί

    Good for you, Yooly.

Is there anything you can do to make it more enjoyable?

I don’t think so….. aging is sometimes learning to accept life in the minus column. There are changes with no prospects of improvement. So I work on what I can fix and work around what I can’t.

I was thinking more of music or using it as an opportunity for meditation or finding some goodness in that experience rather than thinking of us something in the minus column?

I do use headphones and try meditating (which often results in worrying or planning!). The goodness in the experience is that I NEED to do it or I’ll be a slug. But so far I’ve yet to leave the gym with a smile as I did walking outdoors.

There was always something new outside early in the morning- tarantulas crossing the road, deer running about, an armadillo or two and even houses lit up for holidays. The wind or cold or heat. The gym is pretty boring even with a wall of tv screens and people in fancy workout clothes.

    Confusion.

Have you looked into a high school or other track or artificial turf? ONE of the reasons I prefer the outside is because it is LESS jarring on my knees and back than the treadmill... if I am walking on trails. Now, I will admit that mud and hills may not be a Texas thing... but what about AstroTurf? Or a nice bouncy high school, college, or university track?

Tracks are unavailable on school days and most are fenced off/locked here. And then there’s the drive to get there.
So I used to walk on my neighborhood sidewalks/streets. Yup - streetwalker here. πŸ˜‚ The treadmill even with a slight incline doesn’t bother my hip as much as pavement. For me, stepping up and down curbs, uneven surfaces or stairs is painful more than distance on a smooth surface. Part arthritis part bone spurs.

Doctor doesn’t want me puttering about in the early morning dark with surprise pitfalls in the road.

Exercise has gone by the wayside the last two weeks. I wasn’t feeling well. Then hubby got sick requiring doctor visits. Then there was shopping for thanksgiving, cooking and feasting, hauling down Christmas from the attic, Black Friday shopping……

Oy! Tiring but not really exercise. And next week we’re taking a short vacation. There will be lots of walking but lots of restaurants too.

Must get back to the gym as soon as we return. πŸ‘΅πŸ»

You are living such a very full life, Yooly! Good thing you are trim and slim or you would never be able to keep up with it all 😁

I'm contemplating a "standing" computer desk. One of the ones that go up and down. I use them at times when I go visit people. But I haven't decided whether it would work for my place. Black Friday would be healthier that way! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Well Laurie, I’m far from slim or trim! Just a whole lot less of me. Yes it does make for more energy. But I have some weight creep to deal with - not thankful for Thanksgiving πŸ₯Ί.

Son has a standing computer desk at work. Good alternative for part of the day especially when doing quick things. The longer more complicated jobs seem to go better sitting down.

Well my exercise regimen has come to a grinding halt. And it’s cookie season! 🫣

    hmmmm......

    not a great combo....

Are you going to outright ban, conduct offensive operations and full scale combat, fight a rear-guard action, try to manage but accept some cookie bodybuilding (where 3.5lbs of your body is subsequently composed of cookies... like I did last Christmas), avert your eyes but reach in for cookies with the right hand, or make it a rule to only eat cookies with the left???????? or ????

Will you manage or be managed by the cookie monster?????? (and once you figure out how... do share!)

I'm so happy to be past my mini-cookie season. I was not very good with it. But. But. It did precede my return to tracking - so I have to give it some credit.

Did a very gentle 5 minutes on the rowing machine yesterday. Scary to be honest - scar still feels very tight and vulnerable (the vulnerable part is probably more in my mind than in reality). Going to give it another shot today maybe up it to 10 minutes :)

Worst thing is that I just feel so lazy. Not sure if I'm still recovering or if I've just become accustomed to doing nothing? We'll see how this pans out. Wish me luck.

  • lauriekallis
    lauriekallis Posts: 4,794 Member
Absolutely - we were out the next day :) I'm feeling lazy still - no real get up and go. Other than that - and feeling really fat! - I feel pretty good :)

Been walking a lot the past month - enough to trigger freaking plantar fasciitis in my left foot. Feet don't seem to like weight gain. I promised lefty that I'm on it - so far it isn't being agreeable unless I calm it with tylenol.
