I'm not a huge pie person but that top crust is gorgeous, Jen. I'm sure your pies are hundreds of times better than the ones I'm used to eating at Thanksgiving.0

If you find a way of shipping cupcakes without them going to crap, let me know. I have the same charge to a friend who loves making cupcakes from different types of beer (my favorite so far being either the irish car bomb or the cocoa mole with cinnamon icing). Unfortunately, she hasn't come up with anything, although is contemplating a do it yourself icing kit she ships with the cakes. I eagerly await her experiments...0 -

I have a similar thought regarding icing. I'll definitely let you know if I figure it out-- MrM is in line I know.0 -

Not the best, but they do have a couple things I enjoy. I love their Louisiana crunch cake, ultimate crumb cake and ultimate frosted cinnamon buns.
The pie is serviceable if I doctor it up. Which I'm actually quite good at, doctoring up. I just don't need a good pie bad enough to pay NYC bakery prices. If I wanted it that badly I'd just make it myself.
If you're will to come to Queens you should try Martha's County Bakery or Buttercooky. I'm not sure what you consider expensive but the stuff at both places is awesome.
Nope, not at all opposed to going to queens, or anywhere of the subway if the place is good.
Expense isn't a great issue if I'm really in the mood for something.0 -

WTH!!!!!
How much is the weight on the shipment, like 20 lbs?
I put in 2 lbs, which is probably a little on the heavy side but it should be close. Idk-- I looked on Georgetown Cupcakes' website and they say they charge $32 for shipping so I'm guessing my calculations were fairly accurate. That's crazy talk.0 -

They are both so worth it. Martha's has an Astoria and a Forest a Forest Hills location both easily accessible by train.
Forest Hills is the perfect location for us. My baby and me head up to a movie theater up there that shows late run films for pretty cheap and they've got a nice little cafe attached. Next time we're up there for a date night maybe we'll stop into Martha's.0 -

Yeah that's Midway, I can't stand that theater. I've never been to a theater where so many people talk during the movie, and in Russian. We go out to Long Island but recently we went to the AMC in Fresh Meadows where they have new fully reclining seats, it's awesome but tickets are almost $16. That's our new choice of theater. But you are right about the restaurants and cafes in Forest Hills are awesome.
Sorry for all the NYC talk guys.
Are you kidding? Assuming I get back to New York one day, it makes me happy to know that I can come back here and get recommendations.0 -

So today I get to work and I see my partner in the parking lot with a little blue lunch box, I knew it was for me immediately. He packed it with ice packs and put one of the simplest things but coolest things I've ever seen in it. Caramel. Now maybe I'm just not diverse enough to know this was a thing and you guys probably have seen or done it before but this blew me away. Condensed milk, cooked in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes, still in the can and voila CARAMEL!!!! He also brought me a honeycrisp apple. Apple and caramel for lunch people!!!
Me being me I opened it and tasted it. It was so good.
I've been meaning to try this but wondered if it would be any good. Glad to know it works!0 -

It turned out great! Personally I like to make cheesecake with toppings just in case they crack.0 -

My friend does it when he makes banoffee pie. You can do it just boiling in a normal pot, but it takes a lot longer ( I think at least an hour if not longer).0 -

No, not Midway, which is a block from the subway.
I'm talking about Cinemart Cinema on Metropolitan, which is about a mile walk from the 71st Ave stop. It's an independent theater with it's own cafe attached and is deeper into the residential area. Surrounded by a lot of charming little restaurants and stores. You guys should check it out, it's nothing like Midway.0 -

Thanks:) Just in case they crack? I've yet to make one that hasn't. Tonight. Baking will be a banana cake with a biscoff buttetcream frosting. Then two pumpkin pies and two trays of baklava. Then the fun begins.

Are you using a water bath? Here's a link with some tips if you want to try them out. Another easy fix is to make them as cheese tarts instead of a whole cake. I like that better anyway, because it makes automatic single servings.

I think you can do it in a crockpot as well. I have never tried though.
