joanne - that's awesome about the "losing sizes" and all the walking/running/biking you have been doing (and are doing). Good luck with the BWM.

jennie - that sucks about co-worker. A good reminder as to how fleeting life is - I need to LET THIS SOAK IN....because, I'm sooooooooooo stressed at work I am not in the proper mind-set, that I should be. Because life is beautiful and I am grateful.

Meeting with trainer was BLAH. Total blah. I'm not looking forward to the side-planks in NROL4Abs....they have always just hurt my elbows. Lame. Anyway, I'm going to do NROL4W tomorrow and Friday. Meet with trainer again Thursday. And then just dive right into NROL4Abs, 3 x per week, starting next Monday. It's a plan. I'll stick to it.

Jennie, my condolences. I hate to hear about motorcycle accidents especially, since I ride my own and my husband I are always out on the bikes. It's always amazing to me how life does just continue on, even in the midst of personal devastation.

...but congrats on that awesome NSV!

Joanne, did you know I work right in Times Square? I guess i missed that you were going to be here or forgot, but next time, we should meet - nope I won't run with you but we could hare a cuppa or something!

Beeps I saw an article online that suggested instead of doing planks, doing pushup position would get better results. Now, believe me I have not tried it nor can I do planks very well, just your message reminded me of that.

I'm about finished with my day and off to catch the train and then workout.

    BEEPS!!! You are back!:flowerforyou:

Just the person to kick my butt.

I didn't make it to the gym today. super tired. Son woke me up early because the coach sent him home from 7am football practice. Hubby took him to dr and he has upper respiratory infection cause by his horrible allergies.

Anyway, I'm just tired and unmotivated. I have almost talked myself out of completing stage 7 and doing Cardio until my vacation in 3 weeks. Then begin NROL4abs.

JenJen, sorry about your co-worker. It kinda makes me sad to know life does go on.

    Hi all

Today was actually my first day of NROLFW and I loved it. I have only one problem and that is that my I my y gym does not have a squat rack only a smith machine. How about you ladies? Does your gyms all have squat racks and if not what do you do?

Welcome back Beeps! I think I had just started really participating on this board when you started your vacation. Glad to hear it was awesome! What type of job are you in? What are you looking for? I'd like to finish photography school and have my own business one day!

Jennie, congrats on your son getting to the semi-finals and on your NSV!! Sorry to hear about your co-worker. In my profession we deal w/death and life moving on around it everyday. It is disturbing when you really sit and think about how life does go on while others are going through their darkest time. Very sad.

Joanne, your vacation sounds wonderful - busy but wonderful!! Congrats on your new clothes!!

Sue, you are probably working out as I speak!! Go get it!!

Manic, so sorry about your sleep and your son. My son has been getting in our bed for the last year and while it was never too often or too much to deal with he has started to take over more and more of the bed to where I just get out and sleep on the couch in my husband's man cave...geez!! Can a mom just get some sleep around here?!?! I feel for you. I hope things go well tonight and tomrorow for you to get some rest.

Daisy, my gym (YMCA) has a squat rack. I would think the Smith Machine is better than nothing, but after reading about it not giving proper form and such I am not sure you want to take the risk. Do you think the trainers would be able to assit you in getting the bar to your shoulders and then dismounting as well?

This is a pretty common issue. I think most people do a goblet squat (youtube it -- how did people learn to do anything before youtube?) over a smith squat. I've done mucho squats on a smith machine and you're not getting near the benefit since you don't have to balance.

So...I"ve been out of the gym since last Tuesday with what was supposed to be a UTI but the dr called yesterday and said it wasn't. Still not better but I go back to see her (4th straight week -- what a freak!) in an hour. My lower abdomin is still swollen and sore and I've got a sharp pain which at first I thought was gas or something but it's constant -- especially when I engage my muscles (like standing, walking, etc). I mean, it's not debilitating pain or anything, but it's certainly a concern. Weird!

I will go to the gym today...I will go to the gym today...I will go to the gym today.
And maybe take the kids and dog hiking too. Saw ParaNorman lat night. Really great film :)

:) did you? I was lazy this morning. I went to bed too late last night and kept "snoozing" this morning. Not good, I will have to workout tonight as I need to do M-W-F this week. I was out of town all weekend and will be again next weekend and 2 days just isn't where I want to be right now! And it's been 3 days since I lifted (and 4 if I skip today!) and that I know doesn't work for me either. So I will go home and workout tonight!! I will!! I promise myself and you all, I will workout tonight!!

Yea Beeps! Missed your posts! Glad you had a great vacation, and welcome back!
Yes, Sue I made it to the gym Sunday. Great day to workout. NOBODY is there. I did miss a set though :(
Welcome back Beeps. YOu were missed. Jennie, great NSV and sorry about your co-worker. JNH, Feel better. Hopeful the DR. will have an idea of what the problem really is so you can get better faster.

My day is any man's guess. I have to go and argue with mechanic who wants to charge me $250 for a battery and a a headlight bulb. Should 20 minutes of labor really be $150. I seriously would have done it myself but I was stranded with the kids in the car and my father and husband were both working. I am VERY tired from yesterday's fun at Six Flags. I'm not a kid any more. I can't do 12 hours of coasters and walking any more. Hopefully I'll get to the gym tonight when hubby gets home from work. Have a great day ladies.

Amanda, yup I probably was. Had a good workout, upped the weight on my squats but I could have done more, except I'm out of weights. Hubby and I are going to get some more. He has a bent bar loaded upstairs on the breezeway for his workouts and won't let me use them

J, I'm so sorry you are still plagued with that mystery illness! I hope they find that it's nothing chronic or more serious and hope it clears up quickly, so you can get back to doing what you love!

Sam, I really relate. My kids and grandson were here in July. We traipsed all over NYC, and I was exhausted every night!! I'm glad I'm taking better careof myself, I don't think I would have made it otherwise!

Daisy, goblet squats are what I did. I think I said that to you on the Stage 1 chat. There are other squats but I love those barbell squats now that I have my rack available.

Are there other types of squats that give the same workout?

My back is still sore. So, yes, I will get a weight-training work-out in, today, but I'm going to dial the weight WAY BACK for at least 3 good reasons:

    1. My back is still sore
    2. I'm terrified of the DOMS (since I haven't weight-trained in about 12 days)
    3. I'm just not that "into it", this week

I know I will feel better after a work-out, but right now, I'm still blah.

jnh - hope the doc figures out what's wrong, soon!

Beeps - as long as you're moving, you're doing good.

My abs are so sore today - maybe lifting and yoga on the same day wasn't the best idea. I've done it lots before though, but I think those negative chin ups are what got me. I could feel my core working on the first one.

Funny story - the baby (well he's 19 months) woke up in the middle of the night and came into our room. Hubby was complaining he had cold hands and I didn't think anything of it. I got up to use the potty and on my way back to bed, he was standing there with the ice cream container in his hands!! LOL! He had gotten it out of the freezer and was bringing it to us so he could have some. Then hubby says he had gotten it out of the freezer like 5 times yesterday. So I gave him a bite and put him back in bed. :-)

Back from the doctor. Walked out. Waiting over an hour in the exam room makes me so irate I probably burn more calories than working out just from the heart rate.

I do know that I've gained ANOTHER 7 lbs (so that is a whopping 16lbs since joining in March). I do think this 7lbs has to do with whatever is going on though -- the other 9 lbs can kiss it though.

Oh and I did call another doctor to make an appt :).

I don't care what emergency there is, making someone wait for an hour is totally uncalled for! I don't blame you for walking out. Glad you made another appointment! How frustrating for you!

Jennie that is the cutest story!!! Your little one definitely wanted ice cream! lol
whoda thunk that negative chin ups work your abs??

JNH that is the worst customer service! you'd think that the medical field would be more sensitive to how long you keep a patient waiting. i sure hope you find out what is going on with your body soon.

Hi Beeps. Im a newbie on this thread. I think that the "Im just not into it feeling" is kinda common right after vacation. Or it has been in my case. it always takes me a minute to get focused again.

jhn - That is just ridiculous to make someone wait that long! I would have walked out too and definitely gone to see a different doctor. Good for you.

Just saw this on FB and thought I'd share

"What we do in the gym shouldn't be about perfection. Perfection doesn't exist. It shouldn't be about looking like this person or that...blonde or brunette...muscular or thin. The goal isn't about trying to be perfect. The goal is to be better and stronger than you were yesterday!" ~Marsha

hey ladies, I really have nothing to add. just didn't want to say "bump" LOL

    Let's see........

I still haven't made up my mind about finishing up stage 7. I am very torn. I want to finish but I'm ready to get on to some fat loss. Who would have thought I could squat 80 pounds or deadlift 120! Reading that makes me excited and finish out the program.

Must get to the gym today so I won't know what I will do until I get there.

Plain ol' treadmill until after my vacation in 3 weeks then NROL4abs. Alwyn recommends it for fat loss.

I've been sitting here thinking about stage 7. What if I do half of the reps and finish out with cardio? That would give me a sense of accomplishment PLUS the cardio for fat loss.

I'm personally considering doing half the reps anyway because I really despise high reps. I think that would be a good plan.

Hey guys, I just found this group today :)

I'm doing NROL4W, tomorrow will be workout A4 of Stage 1. I'm not as strong as I was before I got pregnant, definitely can't lift like I used to. I'm also a lot heavier. Hoping to regain strength and lose weight and fit back into my pre pregnancy clothes. My daughter is almost 8 months, so it's about time, right?

    Welcome SteAnn.

Mary I think you need to do what satisfies you. I know you said you wanted to finish NROL4W because you have an issue with completing thing (me too BTW), so doing it this way seems like the best of both worlds for you! Do it! I'm rootin' for ya

    You too Jennie!

ETA I'm so going to order at least one of those shirts!!

    Welcome SteAnn!

Well, I hit S3 4A yesterday, and am glad to be done my last BWM in a while. I hate that thing. But I love how I feel it the next day.

I actually had a scale victory this morning - finally hit my goal weight of EXACTLY 150.0.

So now what? Well, I've been thinking about that a lot because I've had a couple of people suggest to me that I'm getting too skinny. Honestly, I don't really care about the number on the scale. But with it being lower, I can tell you that my running is so much easier! So would I like the number to be lower? Yes, for running purposes. But otherwise, I really don't care about a number.

In terms of size, I still look down and see a lot of chub on my legs and tummy and even some on my arms. Maybe it's my newfound love of lifting, but I'd much rather see sleek muscle than lumpies. I'm also right in between an 8 and 6 right now, and would like to NOT look like I'm squeezing into a 6 or barely keeping my 8s on my hips. And finally, I want to be stronger! The growth in endurance I've seen while working on this program has really made a difference in my biking and running, and I'd like to keep improving.

So...I guess I don't really have a plan yet, just the need to make a plan. Will let you know when I figure it out.

Oh, and BEEPS, don't be afraid of DOMS. I had taken 15 days off and it actually felt good to be back. I'm still not excited to go, but I think that's because I really don't like Stage 3. As soon as you go, you will feel better. The fear is always more impressive than the reality.

    Welcome , SteAnn!

I was given the highest compliment from a nearby male weight lifter today. He said, " the strongest woman in the gym." It totally made my day. I am still smiling.

This is what I did. 3 sets of 10 on stage 7. That way I didn't have to decrease weights too much. That's half the stage (with the lowest reps of the 15-20). I finished out on the treadmill 32 minutes of HIIT.
  • SteAnnMui
    SteAnnMui Posts: 129 Member
Thanks for the welcome guys :)

joannezuk, I know what you mean about hitting 'goal' weight but wanting to do more. Two years ago I got to 146 lbs and even though people told me I was starting to get too skinny, I really wanted to keep lifting and get stronger. I wanted to see muscles and feel strong and bad *kitten*!

I think I listened to them more then I listened to myself. I unsuccessfully tried maintenance, gained 20 back, got pregnant and gained 60 back.

My plan this time is to lift heavy from the start and to keep going so that I am happy and not listen to others opinions of my appearance.

How the hell did you do 30 minutes of HIIT AFTER Stage 7, manic????? Something is wrong in the equation.....

    1. HIIT, when done properly, shouldn't last more than 20 minutes. Otherwise, it isn't "high intensity"....maybe just medium. (Well, in the world of Beeps, anyway.)
    2. Stage 7 has a STRONG cardio component, already. If you did 30 sec rests, I'm shocked you didn't fall over dead at the end. (I mean, I did.)

Okay, maybe I'm beating you up too much, manic.....probably because I *also* did a Stage 7 work-out, today. It took me one hour. I only did 6 reps of each exercise. And, my weights were WAY dropped back. Also, I needed 60s rests (not 30s). So, I sucked *kitten* and you are KILLING IT.

    YOU GO GIRL!
