Probable not new to most of you but new to me. I enjoy our early days. And still do. What a wonderful world we live in. The Sneakers are one of a kind.

MARIE You are one of a kind! But there should be more like you, nd more like the Sneakers. Getting along without resentment of each others politics, religion, food prefernces, hair styles, and shoe size, lol! I might have said dress size but Bob might feel left out.
Marie, you have much to be proud of. It's an honor to know you all.

Just read all the posts, great to hear from you all. Patsy, sorry for your fall. I must admit the falls were not funny but the descriptions of them were. Picturing them in my mind ;)

Bad achy day yesterday, knee injection, = swelling =more pain. Super better today. Which brings me to my gripe today. Generics are definitely not all created equally! Im on a med called Mobic (thats the brand name, i take the generic ) first time, i filled it at my local independent pharmacy. Next time, walmart. Within a day my knees and joints bacame achy, escalating to pain in my knees. Long story short, got my med at local pharmacy, and today both knees feel better!

Waiting on test results for Honey, laundry and car needs service today.

Apologies for being AWOL but I just seem to have been very busy. Managed to get in to our local leisure centre for a swim yesterday morning and felt a whole lot better for it as my aching back eased. In the evening as I walked George round the block the sky became covered in bobbly clouds like cotton wool, all a wonderful shade of pink and I thought of Bob's sunrise photo. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me and by the time we got home it had drifted over the horizon. It's bitterly cold today with easterly winds coming at us from Siberia but the sun is shining and I've managed to strip the bed and wash everything to hang out to dry... nothing like fresh air blowing through the laundry. I'm 2 lbs up this week but not downhearted because I know I can make an adjustment next week; it's just winter blues and crumpets!!

Big rugby match on tv tonight (England v Wales) so I'm going to whizz round with the vacuum cleaner, build up the fire and settle down with a light supper, probably veggie stir fry.

Hopefully have a quieter weekend and catch up properly.

Happy Friday!! :D I went to bed at 10:15 last night and slept until 6 AM. When I checked my phone there was a message from Lisa saying my son was taking care of Robby today so go back to sleep, so I did. I slept another two hours so got 9 hours of sleep last night.
Feeling good, I was so tired. Asked my son if I did something wrong because I am insecure that way and he said heavens no, he just never gets to see his son except for weekends.
So now I can run the errands that I never have time for anymore. I need to get some Valentines Day cards for the grandkids, some birthday cards etc. The cruise is coming quickly and I need to have everything in the house ready to go, which means pressing some of the new clothes that are wrinkled, getting my hair done and of course a mani/pedi.

Interesting article Bob posted about MFP selling out. I don't think I would pay any fee if it changed, there are too many others that are free. Let's just hope they keep things the same especially since we are still getting used to this new format.

Since I have things to do I am keeping this short but know I read all the posts daily and go through all the emotions with you whether happy or sad.

    Hi Ladies,

Chris - I have been on South Beach Phase 1 going on my 3rd week of 14 days stretch. I actually gained .04 lbs. this week. I slipped off a little on some snacks but I am back on the track again. I hope to see a loss next week. Check out my diary it is open
    to the public.

    Marie
We love you, you are kind to everyone here. Keep up your scattering kindness.

    Bob
I read your link on the MFP and Under Armour. I just hope they don't charge for us to stay on here. I know a lot of people will drop out. I hope they keep this a free site.
It is really expanding, and people I know are talking about it like never before.
    Let's keep our fingers crossed.

    Sandy
If they do start charging for this site and you go to another one let me know, because I will follow. I want to keep going on my journey to see a goal this year.
I will start getting my things ready to pack next week also once I get that colonoscopy out of the way. Monday is prep day, Yikes ! Not looking forward to it but I guess I will get a jump start on losing some weight next week. LOL
Jackie Your cozy night sounds great. Pet George for me and give him a kiss on the head. I love dogs. I always said my next dog will be a West highland terrier. They are so cute and feisty. I had a Cairn terrier for 14 years and just loved her. She looked like
Toto from the Wizard of Oz.

I just got back from Yoga Class and now getting ready to go see Kathy for weekend and get the nursery set up. Excited to see her and how she is blooming. It won't be long now.

Hope to get back tomorrow......just flitting again from thing to thing. All ready for the accountant next week, finalized appointment with a banker for next week (all near where my dad's acreage is located), visited a bank here in town and got new checks ordered, made a trip to Whole Foods, spoke to a friend on the phone for a while (and yes, I walked the entire time we were conversing) so got a few things accomplished today.

Hugs and all best wishes to my Sneakers friends.

    Then a “patriotic breakfast)…

Have a great Saturday morning everyone! Bob :)

Happy Saturday!! :D Got all my errands done yesterday including a no chip manicure. This morning Babe came with Daisy to bring me some things I needed, such a good guy. Daisy will only stay so long then she starts whining to go home where she loves it best. Babe is going to go to Mass with me and then we will go to dinner. It has been a while since we have gone together so things might be getting back to normal. What exactly is normal?????

Marie lucky you, I would love a 70 degree day. 21 days until we leave on the cruise, I just can't wait.

Bob another wonderful breakfast, I had a bagel, doesn't make for a pretty picture. lol

Lin Still so busy, it will be so great when you can just have time to do nothing.

Shirley good luck with the test, think of it as a good thing that we should all do after 50. Colon cancer is easy to treat if caught early. The benefit is losing the extra pounds prepping. :p

I was lazy yesterday although I had a lot of steps but I did not exercise so I have to make up for it today. Bike, strength and free step are in my near future.

    Have a good day.

  • Marie, your sunshine is spreading, supposed to be 61 today and 63 tomorrow. I like hanging the quilt on the line in the sun.
Shirley, I think every dr. Has a different prep. Ours now uses dulcolax and a liquid, all over the counter purchases. Jim hates the fasting so i get up at 5 or 6 and fix breakfast mostly eggs then its still 24 or more hours before the test. Then he gets jello and broth. Funny, when its my turn, he doesn't even notice me doing the prep. His is due this year ; (
No results yet from Honey's labs. Probably Monday. Still laundering, and enjoying being home.
Rested my knees yesterday, they feel good now.
Jackie, was it you mentioned Last Tango in Halifax? Once I started, couldn't stop! Good way to rest my knees ;).
Bob, I love quiet mornings, but never as early as you and Anne!
Lin, good for you, and Barbie for getting the dreaded tax man chores done so soon.
time for a snack and then meds.

    Dear friends
Marie, my son in Alaska is doing so much better now. Has a full time job and a part time job, new apartment, raising 2 boys plus a step son on the weekends himself. I told him he is moving to fast but he says he needs the money to raise the boys. He is taking his meds and they seem to be working.

Sandy I wish I was going with you on your cruise, have a wonderful time. Babysitting is hard work when you are older for sure.

Shirley, you are making wise choices in your menu's. I sometimes eat too big of portions. I need to add more exercise too. I have to do something to get these extra pounds off.

I thought I would see if I could get on the internet and yep it's still working.

My day should go like this
Breakfast, made egg, sausage and wrapped in a flour tortilla with black coffee
The boys are staying here so cooked for all.
worked in the sewing room for a while.
    computer checking in
    workout
Lunch and dinner not decided yet

    Have a great day

Hello sneakers! I need you all to get extra sunshine and then some extra for me! Rain and rain and then rain here on the Oregon coast. We are saving up for lots of daffodils I guess. My split lip is healing nicely, the fall is almost just an unpleasant memory now.
@ Bob's wonderful photos is inspiring, especially the patriotic breakfast.
I have to tell you all about my recent efforts to control salt in my husbands diet. The herb blend I purchased to use instead of salt was so awful, the veggie omlette I fixed for dinner was uneatable! It tasted like I had added some nasty chemical. Those of you who are trying to control salt, be warned! The substitutes are to be looked at with great caution.
@Chris, we lived in Anchorage, AK for 6 years and we really enjoyed the last frontier! Many wonderful adventures and fabulous scenery. Your son lives in an amazing place! Have a wonderful weekend dear sneakers. Patsy

Jackie – What a wonderful description: “ In the evening as I walked George round the block the sky became covered in bobbly clouds like cotton wool, all a wonderful shade of pink…” I hate it when I don’t have my camera at opportune times. I was at the mall last week when someone pointed out there were several Bald Eagles nesting nearby.. I was able to catch a glimpse and watch them soar…but no camera…argh!

Anne & Phoebe – Yes – I am generally an early riser – 5-6am; but 4am is early even for me. I did consider it a plus and it is the best part of the day. Love the peace and quiet – especially in good weather when I can head for the deck with a cup of coffee and watch the sun come up. Great time for reflection.

Marie – Thanks for the weather report – can’t wait to hit those 70’s myself – won’t be long now!

Sandy – Bagels always sound good to me…its been over a year since my last one (sounds like a confession LOL) ‘ Looking forward to digging my bike out when the weather breaks – it has been a Looong time.

Patsy – Can I trade you some Noertheastern snow for rain – nah – come to think of it all I want is warmth and sunshine – I’m so greedy! I’ll have to trade with Marie.

    Enjoy the afternoon

    Bob
    :)
  • I'm beginning to feel us "up here" will never see the 70s plus again! Mounds and mounds of snow everywhere! Maybe MARIA can get her summer fan out and blow some of that warmth up here? It will come, we just have to be patient and enjoy the winter for what it is. BOB, I'm an early riser because for 24 years I had to ride into work at 6 am with one or other of the engineers I worked with, and the habit stuck. I simply can't stay in bed after 6 am. However, the quiet and peace are well worth it. Hope there's nothing but good news on Monday for Honey, PHOEBE.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everybody, ANNE.

    Hello All,

I really must say sorry for not keeping up. Life keeps getting in the way.

We've been really busy as we are heading for Vegas tomorrow am for 4 nights. Getting ready and getting things lined up has taken up quite a bit of my time. I know we'll have fun. We are going with our friends that we went with before so it should be a good time.

Definitely interesting news about the sale of MFP. Like others if there is to be a charge I wouldn't be interested. We'll have to watch and plan an en masse move if necessary. You guys are my friends, I can't lose you.

    Got to run.

Okay, just lost my message. Grrrrrr.

Jeri - enjoy your trip. I hope you have great fun.

Marie - glad you are feeling better but sorry Jerry is getting ill.

Sandy - great follow-through today. WTG! Exccellent.

Shirley - hope you're enjoying your weekend with your daughter. Yippee!

Bob - wonderful workout this morning and great job on that lunch today as well.

Patsy - glad you are healing up already. I never did recover 100%. I have two red blotches on my face where I scraped along the concrete. Big lump in my mouth where the tooth rammed through the lip. Undid all the physical therapy I'd worked so hard on all summer. Shoulder is right back to where it was. A couple of other things with the most annoying thing is that the nerves on the right side of my face just aren't the same. My face feels 'strange' all the time. I would suggest avoiding falling hard on concrete. Or if you do, be a fast healer!!

Phoebe - hanging out laundry is so nice. It brings the fresh weather indoors. I hope you get some good news about Honey.

Chris - so happy to see you again! I hope this means your Internet will stay on more often now.

Anne - you are so peppy! Excellent.

Off I go. I spent time this afternoon trying to remove the melting ice and slush from my driveway and sidewalks. Wow, that stuff is heavy!! Made some progress though.

Talk to you soon. Hugs. Best wishes.

    Lin
  • LIN, I thought my crash into the garage door was bad, but everything healed in time except for the slight dent in my forehead, but you must have had a dreadful crash to still have so much to deal with. What I'm trying to say is, just be very careful removing snowy slush and ice, you could so easily slip again. I fell in January last year and it was partly because I'd just been to a memorial for a very lovely friend. I was a little weepy and just wasn't watching. It's so very easily done, so please take care.

Time is flying. Sorry about the crashes that some of you have had, the flu that seems to come back, several times. It is really strange...I think it is coming back again for the 3rd time. Only 1 round of meds! If I could take your snow for you for a week, I would trade you in a heart beat....notice that there is a time limit on this offer! lol!

Have been experiencing a few unexpected problems. My grandson informed us that he is getting married in April and that we are not invited. We are very close to him and he stayed with us for almost a year, a few years ago. His girlfriend treats him terribly. The reason we are not invited to the wedding is because her grandparents are too sick to come and it would not be fair to her if my grandson had his grandparents there! Now, again I will say....I have heard it all! lol! It will be interesting to watch this unfold. We are having a hard time deciding between burning down the wedding chapel and calling and canceling the wedding! lol! If you don't laugh you will cry cry cry!

    isandi
  • ISANDI, that's terrible for you, for we do love our children and grandchildren so much and it is so easy to be hurt by them. This may sound harsh and tough love, but have you considered saying very sweetly, "we DO understand dears, and therefore we are sure YOU will understand that us being of a pensionable age we will NOT be sending you a gift as you won't expect one from us, and it is such a relief to not have the expense of buying special outfits, so thank you for your thoughtfulness. We DO wish you well." You can quietly help your grandson out in the future as he'll probably need it!
Sometimes the opposite reaction of what is expected works wonders. Old meanie, Anne.

Good morning sneakers, although looking at the clock I see it's already close to 1pm here. This morning the Siberian wind has finally dropped and we're enjoying a balmy 8c which feels like summer after the cold spell. George and I walked across the moors for the first time in weeks and in the sunshine I often stopped to just take in the views and fresh air while he ran and ran. No sheep in sight so I expect they are still on lower ground away from the cold.

Bob ~ I'm not normally one to wax lyrical but do find Mother nature awe inspiring and a stunning sunrise or sunset does it to me every time! If you're not careful I'll be spouting off about those glorious breakfasts of yours too because compared to my bowl of porridge with a few scattered blueberries or grapes, they are a masterpiece!! Your comment about the bald eagles was casually dropped in but had my jaw dropping because buzzards are as big as we get in this part of the UK.

Phoebe ~ So pleased you are enjoying Last Tango in Halifax.... it's addictive isn't it and I find just as I think the storyline is settling down another curved ball comes at the families but the humour remains. Now you're hooked like me!! Thanks for the link to the bald eagle cameras and story. It's heartwarming to know we humans can manage to live alongside such wonderful creatures. I'm hoping Honey's results are good. Is it to check on her lung worm?

Sandy ~As I get older I realise nothing in life is particularly "normal" so we just have to take each day as it comes and hopefully enjoy it.

Patsy ~ In the past I tried a variety of flavourings to make up for lack of salt but like you, found most disgusting. Luckily having gone through a type of cold turkey I can happily live without it. I read somewhere that it has a similar affect on the brain as fat and sugar in that the brain sends the message that your body must have it, in other words it's adddictive. A gradual process of reducing the amount in your husband's diet should be a way of weaning him off.

Marie ~ It's so good to read you are feeling better but what a shame Jerry has to suffer for having kissed you. LOL Hopefully he's got no regrets.

isandi ~ That must feel very hurtful after all you've done for your grandson. A quiet word in his ear might be worthwhile to explain that wedding protocol doesn't work that way. Also a little warning that if his fiancee controls him over such issues now, what's his life with her going to be like once married. Will she allow him to visit you or is that going to be an issue, never mind any other choices he might wish to make... sounds like he won't be allowed any. As Anne says, keep the door open because he'll be needing you in the future.

Time for a light lunch before heading outside to clean the hen house and check how my potted plants are doing in the greenhouse after our cold snap. I've got a piece of beef joint from a local farm cooking ever so gently in the slow cooker that I'll enjoy for my evening meal with lots of veggies. Much as I love it I'll avoid Yorkshire pudding since I have those 2 pesky pounds to shift again!

Hello to Lin, Anne, Shirley, Jeri, Chris and any others I missed.
    Have a great Sunday.
    Jackie

  • JACKIE, I sort of said it previously, you can take me out of Yorkshire, but you can't take the Yorkshire pud out of me! Beef and no pud and gravy!!! Oh Jackie! Your comments to ISANDI were very good, spot on, and exactly what I was trying to say. You did it better. What on earth's happened to good manners and thinking of others? ANNE.

ONLY 2 MORE POUNDS TO FINAL GOAL.

Lost 2 lbs since his last weigh-in! Total loss 184 lbs so far. Weighed in today for the “100 Days of 2015 Challenge: The Sequel Group” and will weigh again tomorrow because that is my personal “record date” each week. Not expecting a change.

BUT – that is just the weight scale. I have goals already re: inches, strength & toning etc. and expect weight will fluctuate a few pounds for a bit. Burned 341 calories doing 60 minutes of walking this morning.

NOTE: I had lost 7 pounds in November 2013 before setting 12/1/2013 as an official “calorie-counting” program starting date using an app. TOTAL LOSS SINCE NOVEMBER 2013 is 191!
