Howdy y'all. It's marvelous Monday!
Finished the first Green Hornet serial, and we finished season 5 of American Horror Story. I've been told season 6 isn't worth watching but still want to make up my own mind on that...and of course I need to watch the second Green Hornet movie serial! And the Green Hornet movie. Then, since I've finished up the old Superman television series (all 8 seasons!) and the first season of Supergirl, I'll move on to the Superboy series from, I think, the 80s and I have a couple of X-Men theater movies yet to watch and I'll be all caught up on my super heroes! I might have to start on the Dick Van *kitten* show or Gilligan's Island after that. Or, heaven forbid, start in on Dark Shadows again...that one takes a while!
Need to finish up laundry, clear the sink, and maybe go to the grocery. Then tonight we have the local orchid society meeting, and J can preside over his first as president, having turned over his prior Treasury duties to the new guy yesterday.
After that duties turnover meeting we had dinner at Raging Burrito in Decatur, GA. I had a Bangkok burrito and J had a tofu chimichanga. We had not eaten there in about 7 years as we don't get to that area as much as we used to. Glad to say the food is still just as marvelous as we remembered.
OK. Enough internets...need to get the laundry and sink cleared.

I remember buying four things I saw on middle of the night television. I probably bought more, but those two come to mind because they actually worked as advertised!
The "hand hammered wok" that was advertised by some British guy who quickly made a beef and veggie stir fry during the course of the 30 minute or so infomercial was one of them. It was a hand hammered steel wok, with aluminum dome lid, chuan & hoak (spatula and ladle), half grill rack (I think) for removing things to the side but keeping warm in the wok, a "fire ring" stand, and a bamboo cleaning brush. If I remember right it was $39.95 or maybe $29.95, and I used that wok for YEARS. It also came with a bamboo handled strainer, for removing deep fried items or filtering solids from a soupy dish. Eventually I gave it to a friend, who, as far as I know, still has it and may still be using it.
I did regret giving that wok away, eventually, as when J decided he wanted to learn some stir frying techniques I wasn't about to let him ruin the expensive $160 non-stick wok I had bought to replace the old one, which honestly I haven't used in years now, and bought him a Joyce Chen steel wok, for about $40, similar to the old hand hammered wok, but without the hand hammering, that he couldn't POSSIBLY ruin, which came with its own chuan, strainer, rack, dome lid, etc. It's now the only wok we use in the house, though I could still get my expensive one out if I wanted to cook some non-vegetarian stuff in it, as he has declared his wok to be pure vegetarian.
The other item I bought from late night TV was a Mouli slicer/grater that cost, if I remember correctly, $14.95 at the time and turned out to be one of the best slicer/graters I ever used. I still have it, along with a spare even! It came with 5 blades, one was perfect for slicing potatoes or anything else into thin slices, and the rest were for varying grades of shredding/grating, with the largest grade really having big enough holes to "shred" French fries if you wanted, or anything else with a very large shred, and the smallest grade was perfect for very small shred/grate such as for Parmesan or Romano.
The Moulis both still reside in my cabinet and still come out occasionally to play, when I need a lot of quick slicing, shredding, or grating done.
And then, who can forget the VEGOMATIC? Perfect slicing/dicing in moments! A bit awkward to use and clean though, and the blades got bent easily. Still, it was a pretty nifty gadget. Don't remember how much I paid for that one.
And I bought two Magnawave Microwave roasting pans, and gave one to my mother. I ordered hers after I had tried mine out and found it worked exactly as advertised. Unfortunately, the company didn't last long and they are no longer made. Maybe people were too nervous about putting a metal pan in the microwave, even though as constructed it was (and is) perfectly safe, used as directed. I still use that now and then for a pork loin, round roast, or whole chicken. Haven't tried a meatloaf in that but suppose it would work as well.
I got interested in microwave browning paper, and did buy some, but not via the TV demonstrations of it. It works reasonably well, and I actually still have some left. Of course it's now built into tons of microwave French fry boxes, microwave pizzas, and anything else you can think of that people want to have at least a little bit crispy out of the microwave.

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! High of 51 expected today, though it's only 31 out there right now.
J's first meeting as president went well last night. It was also my first meeting as official meeting hospitality chair and that turned out well too. But then I had several years of practice being hospitality helper.
Got all the laundry folded yesterday too, so I guess it was a good day. Late dinner after the meeting at an Asian restaurant near the botanic gardens. The restaurant stays open until 3:00 in the morning so it's convenient for late night munchies. And I didn't even eat anything Asian, as they also make gyros so I had a lamb gyro, while J had one of his favorite stir fried tofu dishes from there.
I'll leave you with a link to some hilarity.

Hi
I went out my walking Today for 8,432 steps + 1 cent. Yesterday I did some more walking indoors and I am ended up with almost 11 K of steps. The temperature was showing 9 degrees this morning and that was on the closed in porch that gets some warmth through the wall of the house and runs warmer than outdoors. The footing was OK until the last block approaching the house where I had a foot slip on the Packed snow twice, No fall luckily.
I stopped at the grocery store and picked up some Large Curd Cottage Cheese. That gave me a chance to warm up before heading for home.
Have a Great Tuesday

Interesting that You had a Gyro at a Asian restaurant and that they stay open so late.
Thanks for the humor

Made a Costco run about 11 this morning. I did not know I needed $130 worth of 'stuff'.!
I went for a big bag of sweet potatoes, Promise Bread, and a pound box of spinach...needless to say other stuff hopped into my basket. Some of them BIG things in size, like 10 roll package of Bounty Towels, and a large package of 10 Kleenex boxes, etc!!! I got two of the dual loaves of Promise Bread...yes, I got there before it was all bought up!
That bread goes like hot cakes. Blink and its gone!. I know they ordered 126 units and they were available for purchase as of Saturday...but that was when everything was ICE. After I got my two double loaves, there were only 12 units left! Willing to bet it will all be gone sometime Tuesday. Which is why when I've been going on Wed. and Thursday there was only bare shelf space.
Couple more chores to do just as soon as I finish my lunch, and then the day will be mine!
Later...
OH, Lee-Ann...glad to know you've been working out, and have only lapsed the past 6 or so months! Give it a few more days, and hopefully the fun of it will return for you. I remember when you did it the first time!!
I need to make a CostCo Run too, However I do need to wait until Some money appears in my Checking account tomorrowThe way it looks I should be able to run to the bank after a slightly early breakfast and then out to CostCo before they open.
You would think that if the bread sells so quickly that they run out that they would order more.
I would have stayed home and done without too with icy roads. My Brother has been having bread problems in a different way. The last two loafs of bread all went moldy before they were used up. This is the same bread he has been buying for over a year and it is only the last couple of loafs that it has happened to. It makes up wonder if they changed the formulation in same way.
Have a Nice Day

Note to self..do not try to eat and watch Ed's 'funnies' or read Rogers cartoons! 'Nuff said'.
I did get a few things done yesterday, but not the 2 things at the very top of the list. Guess that means I don't have to make a 'new' list, just play catch up today!
Also, Tues..time to clean out the refrigerator and make soup or something tasty while clearing out space for Wednesday's shopping event. I do not believe it will be a 4 store event this week....That was a bit much. And since I just went to Costco yesterday...and am planning a run to Aldi's this morning. I picked up what turned out to be Aldi's 'brand' an asceptic pack of Lentil, kale, & potato soup which was surprisingly good. A tad bland in spite of the 540 or so mg of sodium. But I can fix the blandness...and its nice to have a convenience food that is organic etc to fall back on. Yep, yesterday was one of those days, when I just wasn't meant to be the kitchen witch!
Yesterday was my baby brothers 60th birthday...and he's 'taken up' raising sheep. First lamb was born yesterday...cute little critter! I asked him last night how many more lambs he might be expecting??? "Well, I'm not sure, but I have (bought) 22 ewes" OMG! thats a whole flock of sheep and babies!
Ok, today I'm gonna cave and have ONE Aleve. Haven't taken any for nearly a month, but, just one to get me thru the morning!
Later...
Hi Valerie
I have been having some problems getting going and finishing the mental To Do list myself.
I have wonder why it has that level of sodium unless it is in the potato soup.GardenKatGardens wrote: »Hey Roger...
I agree, why not buy More Bread for the shelves so that its in stock. I suspect that they'd have to buy an extra pallet, and that there would then be too much of the bread. (though it would certainly keep that little gray haired old lady from marching up to the managers desk asking questions!!! LOL. Wonder who she should be?????
Like you, I'd either think that your brother is not eating as much bread as he did in the past, or that formulation has been changed. Might check online at the bread mfg to see if there is an explanation, or maybe even a rebate for the loaf-es that have gone bad!?!
Ok. now I'm outta here.
Hmm... That had not occurred to me to do and I know he will not go online to complain
The last thing I complained for him was Tuna that was supposed to be Chunk and looked more like shreds. They sent coupons for free cans
Cheers

Howdy y'all. It's wonderful Wednesday!
Supposed to get up to 65 today.
Might need a trip to the store for a few things and to see what the new specials are for the week.
Also, the inevitable clearing of the sink.

Hi Valerie
It was a comparatively balmy as compared to the last two days 45 degrees this morning.
The walk was more comfortable, no money I I did hit a few slippery spots where the snow had been packed down into ice and not melted away by the overnight rain and warming.
Have fun shopping and enjoy the warmth.

Walk of death? Florida is the most dangerous place for pedestrians
BY ANA VECIANA-SUAREZ
aveciana-suarez@miamiherald.com
Walkers, it's dangerous out there.
With pedestrian fatalities at a 10-year high, Florida leads the way among the seven most dangerous metropolitan communities to walk around in the country. Though South Florida didn't crack the top 10, Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach came in at a not-so-respectable 11th, according to the Dangerous by Design report released by Smart Growth America, a Washington D.C.-based organization that advocates for walkable cities.
Cape Coral-Fort Myers claimed the top spot, followed by Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Jacksonville, Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Lakeland-Winter Haven, and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton placed 10th. An interactive map on Smart Growth’s website shows the most dangerous spots in those metro areas.
The report ranks the 104 largest metro areas in the country, as well as every state by a “Pedestrian Danger Index,” or PDI, which factors in the share of commuters who walk to work, along with the most recent data on pedestrian deaths. Rankings are based not on the total number of fatalities but on population size, the number of people who commute on foot and the number of fatalities.
In Florida, during the 10-year period ending in 2014, 5,142 people were killed by a car while walking. In South Florida, the toll was 1,508.
The rest of the country didn't do much better. The total number of pedestrians killed in the same 10 year period was 46,149. Between 2005 and 2014, Americans were 7.2 times more likely to die as a pedestrian than from a natural disaster. In 2014 alone, an average of 13 people were struck and killed by a car every day while walking.0 -

Hi
I just got a new toy in today I am playing with. It is a Marantz Professional PMD-300CP | Dual Cassette Player & Digital Recorder with USB Output
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EYKBNYS/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have downloaded their capture software, "EZ Vinyl Tape Converter". Which I am familiar with as it appears to be the same software supplied by Ion for their Turntable with USB port as well as Right & Left audio outputs. Currently I am testing it with a capture from a audio cassette I made back in the 70s.parityanimal wrote: »Reminder to self...don't walk anywhere in Florida. Call a taxi to cross the street.
Roger, I think I've had that champagne vintage myself.
This was the part I found amazing too.
"Between 2005 and 2014, Americans were 7.2 times more likely to die as a pedestrian than from a natural disaster"
OTOH it seems as if the news broadcasts from New York City mention someone that was the victim of a Hit and run almost every day.
It makes me think I better look carefully at every crossing when I am walking.
Cheers
RogerGardenKatGardens wrote: »Ed, thanks for the food and drink warning, as I was still eating lunch!! LOL!!
Florida sure is not the place to be walking...I have to wonder why...maybe so many oldsters not paying attention where they walk...or where they drive? We seem to have our share of pedestrians being hit by cars, and I'm surprised its not more. Seems there are a lot of people who walk on the street 'with traffic' and not 'facing traffic'. The other issue is wearing black or very dark clothes at night with no flashlight or reflective strips. I nearly hit one of my gym members one 5:45 a.m because I simply did not see him. I was still shaking by the time he got to the gym...and yes, I gave him a rather long lecture.. Scared me to pieces! But, I did notice he started wearing something light colored after that.
Roger, I actually 'fell for' that joke about pet hair and washing the cat.... they were all good, but that one got me!
Later guys...I have a stiff neck, and its getting worse not better. In fact I took an Aleve...as I seem to hurt all over, and I did not eat anything to cause it, nor did I DO anything that I can think of. I noticed it was a little sore yesterday...but as this day goes on, its getting worse. So, I've heated the long rice sack full of rice, and had my Aleve...next up??? A nap!
Later...
Hi Valerie
I added a safety vest with Reflective stripes as well as being a very bright dayglo Green/yellow color for walking. Think of what You see workers wearing along the road. I also walk facing into traffic if there are no sidewalksMy rear facing eyes are not working anymore.
FWIW I blame the traffic problems on so many people being in a hurry and of course inattentiveness from Music, Talking or texting on the cell phone etc. My Brother observed a car that kept drifting from its lane and did not hold its speed and when he got up near it he could see that the driver appeared to be turning to the seat beside him and probably typing on a laptop. They are out there.
I though the cat hair washing one was hilarious too.
I thought to myself what a funny way to cook rice, then it dawned on me that it was to apply heat
Good Luck with the Stiff neck

Hi Folks,
I am getting bad here...missing saying hi to you folks as regularly as I want. The semester starts next week, and I am not ready to teach. I may be off writing a syllabus or two the next few days...
I got a kick out of the items sold on late night TV that we have all bought. I can't remember half of mine. But thanks for letting me know I am not ht only one who was a victim of my own sleepiness.
Ed, that fried rice from J looks delicious. Did you save any for me?
Still doing the P90x, although yesterday I only did a little over 30 minutes of their yoga - and never got back to finish. Today is day...5 of it. Legs...uggghhh. I have to get my mind up for that.
Moving on. Roger, I suspect you will be walking lots of steps today - our temp is supposed to be in the 60s, right?
Take care all,
Lee-Ann0 -
Howdy y'all. It's thrilling Thursday! Been up since about 5:00 but distracted by the usuals.
J is off to a big plant thing in Florida. Hopefully he won't bring too much back.
I need to clear the sink and maybe set something out for lunch...watching Irish people try out various foods from around the world has food on my mind.
And take a nap.

Hi Lee-Ann
I may be the exception that has not bought off of the TV
OTOH since I hate commercials and tend to avoid things advertised heavily and anything being sold with a phone call or by someone coming to the door. I do have no problem with wasting callers time while I explain My policy of never buying anything from a call on the phone.
I agree that the rice looked too tasty TBH, Now I am getting into the mood to cook some myself
I have no idea how far I walked. Yesterday the FitBit Battery died and I ended up replacing it and walking in the house to reach my goal steps. Then today it showed 28 steps when I looked on my return from walking ??? and a picture of a battery with a line through it that would seem to be indicating low battery and I thought I put the new in.
News12 was saying that some areas could set a new record for high temperatures for the day.
Have a Good Day

The fried rice did, indeed, have egg and tofu in it. There was a package of Trader Joe's teriyaki baked tofu cut into small dice to go in the fried rice.
When J is in the mood to make fried rice, you better believe Eduardo is happy to act as sous chef as J makes REALLY GOOD fried rice.
Tonight Eduardo has some boneless country style pork ribs going in a crockpot with a creamy Marsala and mushroom gravy. Haven't figured out the vegetable yet but maybe buttercup squash.
Update: The gravy, on tasting, just cried out for a potato so I gave in...Eduardo made a great dish tonight. And LEFTOVERS!0 -
All right. All caught up on food and almost on dishes...but want to finish this glass of wine before dishes. I can go watch the Green Arrow movie now! I finished both the movie serials.

Howdy y'all. It's fabulous Friday!
Leftover ribs for breakfast. For such a simple recipe, that was really delicious.
Supposed to be horribly warm today, for January, but I guess that's better than ice and snow.
Need to clear the sink and maybe do some house cleaning.
And take a nap...been up about an hour, woke up with a headache but I think the ibuprofen is starting to work now.

I went out for my walk today for 11.5K steps, The temperature was 54 degrees out the door. During the walk the temperature was dropping and the breeze increasing. Back out later with my brother driving for a little more running around.

I need to make a comment on Ed's post....it is not 'horribly warm', its deliciously wonderfully delightfully warm today, and for the next several days....:) LOL!!!
Yesterday I got the butterfly bush cut back, and removed the rose bush my former Korean neighbor 'killed'. I have 4 more rose bushes to go...., and a few other things. Several of which will require DS1's help. (he has the chain saw!)
Dr. Appt today for blood pressure check...
So this morning I will do indoor chores, and right after seeing little doc, I will be outside with my various pruners! It will be great to have this done. DS1 questioned my mid Jan. pruning, but I think it will be ok...if not I'll be buying a couple new Knock Out roses.
I also want to transplant some more black mondo grass today and tomorrow, and any day thru Monday or Tues...as long as these great temps last..cuz we're more than 'due' to get our 6 weeks of winter...
Thats all the excitement from my space of GA.
Later...
Hi Valerie
A bit of a shame that the neighbor killed the Rose Bush.
Maybe You will be lucky and skip into Spring with no real hard winter weather.
Cheers

Hah! I meant Green Hornet. I don't have a Green Arrow movie. But I think they might be making one! He has shown up in other super hero series episodes once or twice, notably in Smallville as a recurring character.
I'll just finish sipping my second cup of tea (with a slice of fresh lemon dropped in while brewing) now...and think about a nap.
