Well, Eduardo has put a quart of beef stock, two beef cubed steaks, browned and diced, a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, half a large white onion, diced, some herbs, seasoning, and a generous splash of good, dry, red wine into one of the crock pots to simmer up a nice, rich cube steak stew for dinner tonight, and, no doubt, several more meals. There is a medium potato on standby to dice up and add later, perhaps an hour or so before dinner, and it looks like JUST enough room in the pot for that potato.

Eduardo is very good at coming up with just the right size pot or other container for food. I think it's genetic, because my mother can do that and my sister in Paducah can do that too.

Hah! I meant Green Hornet. I don't have a Green Arrow movie. But I think they might be making one! He has shown up in other super hero series episodes once or twice, notably in Smallville as a recurring character.

I'll just finish sipping my second cup of tea (with a slice of fresh lemon dropped in while brewing) now...and think about a nap.
    Hi Ed
And here I thought I was the only one doing that sort of thing.
All I had beyond the morning coffee while walking and a Protein shake was a 7 ounce can of Diet Pepsi :)
Today is Friday the 13th. So that means tomorrow is...SATURDAY THE 14TH!

Strangely enough I was thinking of that movie this morning when posting. I had rented it from netflix a while ago if I remember properly or I had found it on YouTube. Ok I found it again on YouTube here

Dinner tonight was a large salad and THIS:

The soup turned out quite tasty, and there is plenty of it left for further meals.

    Howdy y'all. It's sensational Saturday!

Breakfast was a sort of crustless quiche of egg, bacon, turkey sausage, cheddar and milk, along with a side of yogurt with fresh raspberries.

I think lunch and dinner are likely to be soup and salad.

And remember! It's SATURDAY THE 14TH! And SATURDAY THE 14TH STRIKES BACK!

    Hi
I went out for my walk today for 9,900 steps + 10 cents, The temperature was 29 degrees out the door which is a 25 degree drop from yesterday for the same time. During the walk the temperature was dropping and the breeze increasing.

They are talking about Snow to a Wintry Mix today from inches to a coating depending on what part of the state. The southern portion getting it worse :( The latest weather forecast says moving in this afternoon.

    Have a Great Weekend

P.S. This part of the the entire post as posted below was from here: WFAA an ABC station

Crazy but true: Flight 666 lands in HEL on Friday the 13th
In a bizarre Friday-the-13th coincidence, a flight bearing the number of the beast went straight to HEL today.

That’s right. Finnair Flight 666 took off from Copenhagen (CPH) and flew directly to Helsinki (HEL) on Friday.

Even better? The flight took off at 13:00 local time, according to Flightaware. The one-hour, 34-minute flight landed at HEL at 3:41 p.m. Helsinki time.

    And it gets even wackier.

The Twitter account @Flightradar24, which tracks air traffic around the world, even pointed out the aircraft is 13 years old, according to its registration and serial number.

    Good Saturday Morning,
Ok, time for me to do a 'reset'. Reset to what I'm not sure... I looked at your dinner Ed, and the first thing I saw was not the delicious stew/soup, but the beautiful round probably warm BISCUIT! How sick am I???? Looks like I'm due for another run to Whole Foods. New Years I was jonesing for vegan cornbread, which luck would have it, was on the hot bar when I stopped at the Midtown store....so, I know Sunday brunch even out here in 'Carnivore' Land Whole Foods (gotta love John's Creek???) will have a big pan of biscuits. There was a time you could also get tofu scramble, but haven't seen that in a long, long time...

Yesterday I enjoyed my Roasted Cauliflower soup, topped with roasted brussels sprouts and roasted carrots. There is enough left for today, and probably Monday lunches as well.
I also 'hang on to your hats' made Roasted Strawberry Salad dressing...and it is GOOD!!! Had it with a handful of arugula, a scattering of pine nuts, and red onion...mmmmmmmmm!

Ok, what else is on my brain besides food....???? Not a lot, so it must be time for breakfast!

    Later...
    Hi Valerie
I thought that the Biscuit looked so good too :)

I may be dumb? However I would not have thought that Vegan Cornbread would be that hard to make?

On a humorous note, too me anyhow...
On the News last night the reporter said that they were treating the roads where she was with a mix of salt and organic beet juice? Regular beet juice won't work?
Sooo, if France is Bacon, and being enlightened means the 'penny dropped'....is that what Roger is finding on the sidewalks of NJ????? Must be a lot of enlightenment going on in Jersey!! LOL!!!
Sorry, but that was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the article!

    Mine goes like this...
When I was a first and second grader we learned to sight read...no phonics. Fast forward a year or two, and I was visiting my Grandmother in St. Louis, and we were riding the Street Car to downtown for shopping and lunch. I loved riding the street car! Well, I look out the window, and see a beautiful carpet of green lawn. It was so perfect they must have trimmed it with a scissors! But there was a sign ...and that sign bothered me for years...it said:
All Presbyterians Stay Off The Grass
Really, why just the Presbyterians and not the Methodists or Catholics, etc, and if you were something other than Presbyterian, how would they know?????
Seriously for years I pondered the plight of the poor Presbyterians....until I was older and ran onto the word....Pedestrians!!!! OMG!!! Such a revelation!!!

Bet you all each have one of those stories too!!!

    Later...

I suspect that what I am finding has melted out of the last snow :)

If I said that Hot Dog was tasty with a little ketchup and the scale was happy this morning too would You believe me :)
FWIW the highest calorie NS dinner entree is 300 calories so this worked for me even with some Ketchup.
I am thinking about picking up a couple more to stock up the freezer.
BTW I would like to use a slice of bacon and cheese on the Hot Dog but that would add 60 calories even without the ketchup :(

    Pedestrians, That was funny
    Thank You for the Laugh

    Hi
I walked today for 8,100 steps and no, The temperature was 27 degrees out the door. The Snow was around 1.5 inches deep in a nearby town according to the weather forecast report. The streets and sidewalks are in decent shape overall. I did not come across anything to slippery while walking. I did keep a watch for where I placed my feet and steered clear of any places that looked like they might be slippery :)

I went back out yesterday afternoon to the Produce store and Dollar Store, walking in the snow. I decided to get out before it could get slippery and dark. I picked up a container of Cherry Tomatoes for my Brother and one of Blackberries for me as a change of pace. The freezer cases in the dollar store were pretty well picked over. I did pick up a couple of things, The Frozen Ready to eat Nathans Hot Dogs and Gourmet Meatballs :) for my brother to try. I ended up the day with 14K+ steps as a result.

    Have a Great Sunday

    Hi Ed
    Loved that Cartoon
Turnip twaddler....thats priceless!! I don't ever recall seeing that particular strip. Love Opus, had a big stuffed Opus for a long time. Not sure what I did with it. Probably gave it to some little kid....

Just thought I'd let you know how I actually spent my afternoon. Went out to blow leaves, and prune some more shrubs..(roses are all done)...and I was in the front bed by the street, tripped on a stub of what I suspect was at one time a red bud sprout...and fell face forward...leaf blower and all. After a minute or so, I got up, a bit 'shaken' but alright. Except my right hand thumb hurt a bit. And then a bit more when I tried to hold the blower...so I came into the house grabbed a bag of frozen peas, and rubber banded it around my thumb. Got the leaves almost all the way down the side of the house, and by then I thought maybe it could be broken? Called my insurance nurse hot line..and then against her wishes drove my self to the ER... Its a 'spach' break...I had to come home and look it up...never heard of that. Anyhow, that's what I did today....never a dull minute around here.

    Later...

    Hi Valerie

I know that the free Turnip Twaddler would have convinced me to buy :)

I am sorry to hear that You Broke Your thumb :(
I hope it heals quick for You. It sounds as if I have been lucky when I tripped over a stump in the back Yard. I had not thought of damaging the thumb, I was more worried about my knee as every time I trip and fall it is always the right knee that I come down on first.

    Good Luck with it

    HI Again
I do not know what I would use a Turnip Twaddler for, the Tomato musher could work to make a Red Gravy for pasta from the fresh grown tomatoes in the summer :) Why do it the old fashioned way by boiling them down and using a Potato Masher.

A sort of funny story, the last recycle day I had put an empty Pizza Box on top of the other recycling and later on it was gone. I looked up and down the street, just in case a gust of wind took it, OTOH nothing else blew away so...
In the end I decided that for some weird reason someone wanted it and took it.

    Have a Good Day

Finished off the home made soup for lunch. Eddie got all the dishes cleared, cat boxes taken care of, some sweeping and vacuuming and I managed to get in a short nap. Could have used a longer one, but you can't have everything...

    Hi
No steps today, I suspect I am coming down with something and had a sleepless night. The temperature is 26 degrees outside. The Snow has disappeared from the streets and many of the yards, the exception being the yards in the northern side of houses.

    Have a Great Monday

    Howdy y'all. It's magnificent Monday!

Eduardo won last night so pizza was dinner. And breakfast. And will likely be lunch and possibly dinner again for me. Two slices per meal is my usual ration on that, though I may go to 3 for a couple of meals once in a while. Pizza Hut thin crust medium "meat lovers" pizza.

Need to get the AC drain flushed today, as I do every month around the middle of the month. Then see how much laundry there is now that J is back.

And maybe a trip to the grocery. We'll see.

Oh, and a nap, of course.

Anyway, that's the plan. If I run into any problems...I'll just sing along with this song!

Eduardo may have had the night off last night, but not tonight!

Tonight's shipwreck casserole is in the oven. Got a later start on it than intended because it took a teensy bit longer to prep all the layers, and avocado is slippery!

    From the bottom:

    sliced onions
sliced potatoes, seasoned with a light sprinkle of salt, pepper, and smoked paprika
salsa (from a jar, Eduardo did not make the salsa)
sliced avocados, seasoned with a light sprinkle of salt, pepper, and smoked paprika
    cooked long grain rice
    chili beans, with sauce

covered and baking for about an hour at 350, at which point the final layer of

    shredded cheddar cheese

will be added and put back in, under the broiler to brown the cheese slightly.

After standing for 10 or 15 minutes, slabs will be served. As this seems to have filled a 9x13 glass cake pan, I think I can safely say there will be leftovers...

Val, I'm sure you can make a smaller version of the casserole than I did. Mine used a couple of onions, a couple of medium potatoes, two avocados, several cups of cooked rice, two cans of chili beans, and enough shredded cheddar to give it a nice top. I expect the vegan shreds (maybe pepper jack?) would do beautifully.

    Hi
I have walked in the house a little for 2K steps and plan to do more later, I was walking slower than usual as I am still feeling poorly. I decided I needed to do some walking as I am sure You lose it when You do not do it for a few days.
The temperature was 39 degrees out the door. The previous Snowfall lingers on in the backyard where it is shaded by the house. Today's forecast of heavy rain will take care of that.

    Have a Great Tuesday

Hi ! Sorry to take so long getting here.
Saw the Ortho Doc today! He's middle aged, a Brit. Finished his training here in MN at Mayo Clinic. We..covered reading the x-rays, how all the tendons work, how the cast should allow the bone to regrow and connect to the chunk (my term) of bone that broke off and was still attached to the tendon. How lucky I was that it was the outside of the thumb, and not the finger side of the thumb. He hasn't discounted surgery, but assured me he'd like to not do surgery. (Makes me happy)...and without coaching, he got the bone health triad absolutely correct....calcium, magnesium, and Vitamin D. Not once did he tell me to drink milk or eat cheese!! I love this guy! He understands nutrition! Yea!!! Back to his office on Jan. 30th for more xrays to confirm healing...new cast if needed..etc.

Came home took pix of my little 'mini cast'...meaning only half way up my arm, and fingers and knuckles exposed and also the nail end of my thumb. Can't get my finger and thumb to meet, so still can't tie shoe laces. and a few things, but a big help.

Today also brought a really good nap, and cat and I have rocked and he snoozed thru the local news..
Now ready to head to the kitchen to make dinner. BTW...ED...I could so do that 'shipwreck' casserole that you layered!!! I see that happening sometime this week! I think I can trust my fingers with a sharp knife...if not, will microwave the potato and then cut it, and will need to pick up salsa, pre-sliced onion, and an avocado. Bet I could even toss in a few slices of zucchini, and perhaps even a handful of black olives if I wanted to get 'fancy'...LOL about the fancy!

Where is Lee-Ann?? She's been AWOL for a couple of days. Hope all is well for her.

Loved all the cartoons, etc. We're a happy laughing bunch if nothing else!

    Later...

    HI Valerie
I guess it is the best that can be expected after breaking the thumb. It has to be a real nuisance. I had a hand at a time immobilized after Carpal Tunnel surgery and do not recall having problems with my Show laces. I hope You get that figured out, Otherwise Velcro fastener shoes :(

Enjoy the Casserole. It did look tasty.

I do my best to be cheerful and spread cheer
    Have a Good Day

Howdy y'all. It's terrific Tuesday! I've been up for an hour or so. Didn't get to bed until after midnight, because J and I were watching a video, but Lilo insisted on me getting up before 8:00 this morning, going into "vulture on the headboard" mode finally to push the issue.

So I got up and boiled some eggs for breakfast and am now pondering a grocery run, though waiting until tomorrow might be better...I could catch the tail end of last week's sales though...which I never DID get to.

The casserole is definitely a keeper, though next time I may sauté the onions before making that layer, the bottom was just a tad watery.

There is plenty of casserole left, though J did have a second serving. He liked it too. I stopped after one fairly large serving myself.

So I'm glad I let Eduardo loose last night.

Oh well, need to clear the sink and ponder grocery...
