I wasn't expecting a loss because I've been the same weight since last week, fluctuating up and down but not going lower. So I put it away so I wouldn't see it. But when I got up this morning and used the bathroom, I just felt lighter. So dragged out my scale from it's hiding place and I lost 2 pounds! Yippee! I'm that much closer to being in Onderland! I haven't been in the 100's since my early 40's. My goal of getting there by the end of the year is looking like it's really going to happen! 8 more pounds to go!!

The run went well. I miscalculated my return route and ended up with 13.3 miles. I didn't want to circle the block to get that last mile + in so I called it good. It was starting to rain anyway. I didn't peter out like I had been but am struggling with muscle cramps. Had to stop and stretch a couple of times and ended up walking a good portion (at a rapid rate but still walking). I'm okay with walking it just wish I didn't cramp. I'm thinking I need more potassium. I was drinking electrolytes but... ???
I know that diet drinks are not supposed to put you out of ketosis but they do me so I've cut out all diet sodas and sweeteners. Luckily I'm an un-sweet tea drinker so I'm good there. BUT with this need for electrolytes... I have a hard time finding any that aren't loaded with carbs. Tailwind comes highly recommended but it's over 20g of carbs per serving. I have been using Nuun tablets that I dissolve, they are only 4g of carbs but I think they taste... well, less than desirable. Anyone have any electrolyte suggestions? They will have water and gatorade at the race. Gatorade makes me want to vomit and it's so high in sugar I'd avoid it anyway so I'll have to take along packets or tablets to dissolve in the water.

@lodro was doing some distance stuff - ultras. I think he was doing MCT...
The muscle cramps are more likely magnesium related. Everyone thinks it's potassium, but magnesium gets depleted long before potassium. You can buy powdered magnesium, lite salt or nu salt for potassium (or lemon or cream of tartar), make sure you get sodium. Some folks do it in pickle juice because it already helps naturally.
Could you tolerate it that way?
@Marcelynh
I'm going to go back and see if I can find Lodro's Ultra posts and what he was using...0 -

You know I knew that. Why I typed Potassium I'll never know. Maybe I was dreaming of bananas... lol
I'm starting the Slow-mag 20 day therapy for muscle cramps. We shall see how it works. That combined with drinking back the meat broth etc will help. It's not real bad, just one stupid calf muscle. I say it means daily massages but my husband doesn't agree..... lol

My husband and I both drink a quarter cup of pickle juice when we have cramps. That method works really well and Epson salt baths are excellent for regular bowel movements.1 -
Speaking of leg cramps, I went grocery shopping on Saturday. I walked all around the store, mostly just reading labels on foods I was curious about. I was probably in one store for about 2 hours. Then I went to another store, same thing.
Anyway, later on that night I got the worst cramps in FRONT of leg and top of my foot! Usually, if I get cramps, it's usually located on the back of my leg or under my foot. Both legs were cramping up so bad. I tried to stand up, but absolutely could not. I had to holler to my son to get me the pickle jar. He brought it and watched me drink the juice and made faces. LOL! The cramps subsided almost immediately.
So my question/comment is...I have an almost full jar of pickles with no juice. Is it possible to just get juice? Or can I fill the jar with water and it'll turn into pickle juice? Or can I just eat pickles if I get cramps?0 -

I know you can buy pickle juice online - and I'm sure in some larger stores/restaurants if you find a friendly manager (like once they package up their pickles to apply to sandwiches/burgers, the liquid left goes down the drain). I would NOT add water to the pickle jar - or you'll end up diluting your pickle flavor. You might eat the pickles daily as preventative so that you can just buy more pickles - or you can look up pickling as a process... Generally it's spices/herbs, salt, vinegar, and sometimes sugar, peppers, etc. It's really individual.

The link that came up blank there, @Jigglypuff9363 was just a pinterest search with the words "pickle juice" from what i could tell.0

Thank you!! Very helpful! I do have another jar of pickles, but hate to open it without finishing off the pickles in the other jar! I love pickles, but usually not to eat by itself.0

Hmmm... I feel like I may have heard that before about the Epson salt, but it’s a good reminder. I’m going to add it to my grocery list. Thanks!1 -
Currently in the start up keto phase. Eating more fat cals than work for loss, but letting go of carbs is hard. So I do more fat for about two weeks, then zero in on weightloss macro targets.
Really trying to return to basics and the re-establishing of good, tried and true keto habits from about 18 months ago.
It's important to me to get this going at this time. I've carved out time to focus on a few of my own goals and settling into a stable food plan would enhance this greatly.
Not to mention that keto energy and mood boost would be sooooo wecolme.
Feeling like this could turn out to be a good holiday season for me, myself and I.
My "artists way" course is going so well. It's really sparking up my interest in my own life. So glad I'm sticking with it and doing the work involved with it. Shifting the focus from seeking approval from others to being my own damn self and seeing who likes it.2 -
My husband and I started keto approx. 5 weeks ago. My husband has lost about 19 lbs so far and I have lost 13 lbs as of this morning. Anyone have any successful fat bomb recipes? I tried one and it was horrible. Also, please add me as a friend, could always use more support from my keto community.3

I use macadamia nuts as fat bombs or Parmesan cheese Whisps. Find some food that fits the macro and use that as your fat bomb. The only way that I could stomach the cream cheese fat bombs was by adding peppermint or covered them with the dark chocolate.0 -

This is one is my go to... https://ketosummit.com/chocolate-almond-fat-bomb-recipe-paleo-keto-lowcarb
Edited to add that since I’ve been doing this for awhile, I don’t use fat bombs as part of my regular diet anymore but I put them in ice cube trays for smaller portion sizes to keep in the freezer and eat as a treat. I ate those instead of my kids Halloween candy... it worked like a charm .2 -
I always liked an Almond Joy fat bombs. Melt some coconut oil and mix in 100% cocoa. Add coconut, stevia and sliced or slivered almonds. I don't have specific measurements but you'll find them on line.0

Almonds, coconut and cacao powder are what’s in the recipe for the link I attached above. I’m not sure how the measurements or preparation compare but I imagine the taste wouldn’t be much different from your Almond Joy fat bombs.1

Feeling good today. Ex got through 7hr difficult surgery okay. Whew!
Didn't go off plan over it. Earlier this week I bought a couple big packs of bacon and decided for two weeks whenever I want sweets, I can have 6 pieces of thick sliced hickory smoked bacon. I learned recently to bake it in the oven, and it comes our so perfect that way!! At the end of two weeks, I should be past the cravings and will advance to a more weightloss oriented food plan. So far today, I'm not even hungry. Keeping fingers crossed. I kind of remember doing this kind of thing when I first started out.
Still on target with my art course.
Still sticking to my inner focus, energy building yoga plan
A couple of successful days can really do alot for the overall big picture perspective.
Have a great day, pals.5 -
Hello all. Just checking in. Been getting on with things pretty well, and inching my way back to a good solid keto food plan. Almost back down to 20 carbs daily again where I seem to do well overall. Not quite there.
Working steady on my art course.
Gearing up for upcoming holiday season. Not going out much, but will plan some happy things to do.3 -
Awesome dedication @elize7!1

Killed my ketosis yesterday but ran 12 miles today. I’m calling it a successful holiday. Lol5

Hey everyone....
I'm checking in.
My keto adventure has allowed me to lose over 100lbs. I told my family that i wouldn't worry about it to much throughout the holidays...lol
So yams are a beautiful thing...until the diarrhea set in...so...has anyone else experienced this after breaking the carb rule?
PS...it might have been the sweet potato pie!...lol
Back to keto!2 -
pitbull603: Oh yes, If I go wild with carbs I definitely need to stay near a bathroom. More common for me though is lethargy and headaches. And bloated... oh my carbs definitely bloat me up.
On vacation and working hard to find low-carb alternatives. I found some jicama "tortillas" that are only 1.5 g of carbs each. Going to try them for tacos tonight.0 -

Back to keto!
Your body is smart and knows to dump out excess blood glucose through your urine and stool, as necessary. That's one of the reason Metformin can trigger diarrhea in some. Metformin is a insulin/glucose management medication that is used mainly by diabetics or others with impaired glucose management. It pushes that bodily reaction. It very much stands to reason, @pitbull603 , that your body would do this naturally with a healthy metabolism, especially as sugar is viewed as a poison by a detoxed or healthy body....
For me, it's more about joint inflammation and pain...but I'm also still the owner of an impaired metabolism...1 -
Half way through this holiday season and I'm calling it more low carb than my beloved keto...but I'm grateful to still be in the ballpark. I'm doing the best I can, and that is the best I can do. Still working and struggling to keep the food part real for the next 33 days. Low carb is good. It could be way worse.
Had a less than awesome week. Still kicking, though.
Trying to get plans made early with my son for Xmas... a possible trip to the Cape for a few days,...so I have something to look forward to. That would be ideal! Then he thinks he'll visit here for a couple weeks in January. This would really be good for me. I can use a break from the empty nest stillness.
Thinking of the Rolling Stones song,
"You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes...
You get what you need"
Happy Holidays to all my fitness pals!
Could not have gotten where I am without you.2 -
@elize7 so glad the hear all the positivity there!1

Okay, report on the jicama tortillas. Awesome. 2g carbs, 1 g fiber make them a go-to for mexican food. We ate them raw and just warmed up a little bit then filled like a normal taco. My husband loved the crunch that they gave. Better than the cheese flats we usually make (that are greasy and wonderful but not crunchy).
Hiked today and then ran sprints on the treadmill. Might be ready for that marathon yet! Only 11 days to go.3 -

I'm interested in the tortilla. What brand are they and what are they made out of? Where did you find them? Let me know I would really like to have an alternative to lettuce leaves.0 -
I got them at my local grocery, H.E.B. but you can make them. Just take a jicama, peel it and then slice it as thin as you like. These were almost paper thin. That's all there is to it. There are some recipes out there that add in some other ingredients, I found a couple googling jicama tortillas but we found the plain raw jicama lovely.2

December Goals:
Maintain ketosis through the month of December and avoid Christmas sweets (think nuts!)
Add 20 new recipes to my personal keto recipe book (I only add them if they are a hit)
Enjoy every last minute of the last of 2017
Run and finish my first full marathon (December 9th)
Won't put exercise or food goals on here for December. I'm exercising plenty and eating... well I eat plenty too but I'm not gaining an ounce and still slowly losing or at least maintaining so I'm not going to stress about that this month.
