WaistAways Team Chat - JULY 2022
Good morning all. Yesterday was busy with getting everything done before spending the afternoon getting hip injected. The injection was a piece of cake ... much less uncomfortable that when I had my knee injected several years ago. Only discomfort was the quick prick when they did the local anesthetic. So far so good ... no real issues this morning. I have had no pain meds and will not take any see. Will plan to get minimum steps in, but nothing really rigorous for the next two days. Starting Thursday ... pretty much full scale normal (hopefully )
On the negative side, yesterday was pretty bad for everything else ... did not meal plan, overdid when we went out to dinner post-injection, snacked last night, and slept poorly. Back at it today.
@shawtytel2 I hope you find some pain relief.
@jugar A friend and I will be going to Maine in September. So looking forward to it. Have only been there once before and then just briefly to attend a conference in Kennebunkport. Unfortunately, I was not able to extend the trip to explore the area so this will be almost like my first visit.
Thursday weigh-in (early due to travel)
Goal Zone Maintenance Range 160-165
(Week 1 outside of range)
Reminder I won't be able to weigh in again until the first Thursday in August (need one excused week)4
@ashleycarole86 have a great trip!4
I will take that small green week! I was watching the scale go up and up the last few days but my period is due in 2 ish days and it's been so long since I was on a reliable down trend, that I haven't been able to notice what used to be a 3-5 lb gain in hormonal bloat. Between that and the after effects of 3 days out in one week, I am hopefully set up for a final July week in the green.
@jan110144 glad to hear the injection went well!6
@MoonlitMuse Thanks for the steps - looks great! Happy to have you on board!
For running and biking, I am just using a conversion based on an assumed speed to give you credit, but if you have the ability to give time and speed for those activities, even better! But it all works. Also, do you have a daily step pledge you're aiming for? Reminder that the other activites are converted to steps and count towards this.
Just looking for steps from @YinxFed and then I'll get the report out to the team as soon as I can.
We got to the airport bright and early, had breakfast, and now we're waiting at the gate. I have about a third of my daily steps but I'll likely go wander a bit more before we get on the flight since it's about 4 hours of sitting. Should be able to get a nice walk in when we get to Toronto tonight.
7/17 exercise: 46 minutes Peloton + 13007 steps
7/18 exercise: 9706 steps
Ohhhh Stampede, you were fun!!! Off on vacation for 2 weeks. Hoping/working to stay under 180 and then on to a speedy drop to get ready for my race in Vancouver.6
Husband has the flu. Or at least, probably the flu since our covid test came back negative. This is the first time in three years either of us has been sick.
He's beyond crushed about it since we have to postpone a specialist appointment he's been waiting 6 months for. It's only until next week thankfully but he's been suffering for so long.
In happier news I was cleaning out my
wallet and found unused Indigo gift cards. I promptly bought 4 books I've been wanting.6
@ashleycarole86 and @bowens1973 good luck with Pearson!! As much as I love that airport (worked there for 3 years) I do not envy you passing through it during all the staffing turmoil. Best of luck making it out the other side with all of your luggage and without standing in a line for more than an hour. You likely have a direct flight and there's no severe weather in the forecast to cause delays and diversions so at least that removes one potential hiccup.
I'll be heading to the Kawartha's on Saturday so I will send you a nearby high-five when I get there.
My weekend pot luck was tasty and I'm back on plan today for a perfect day to reset. I kayaked a bit around the little lake (read: large pond) but a great nsv I had was I jumped in the water to cool off and managed to tread water while carrying on a conversation, in my second language, for over 15 minutes. That would have never happened before joining MFP and this group.
I have a family reunion this coming weekend so I will try to find balance between the unlimited free food at the resort and the exercise and games planned. Fingers crossed I get to try water skiing for the first time!
@jan110144 glad to hear the injection went well. I'm sure your horse is looking forward to more quality time together!
@Terytha aren't books just the best?!? Hope your hubby feels better soon and you don't succumb to it.4
Am I too late to post my step and exercise stats for last week. Even though they are pretty uninspiring! I won't be offended if you don't use them, but here they are:
Sunday - 8778 / 60 mins Cardio Aerobics (GrowithJo)
Monday - 2964
Tuesday - 6536
Wednesday - 6394
Thursday - 7115
Friday - 7049
Saturday - 5850
Yinka that wedding looked like it was a lot of fun!
My perfect day is within reach. I'm doing my best to stay away from the snacks. Maybe a post-dinner walk will encourage me to accept that I have already consumed everything I will be consuming today besides water.2
@YinxFed Thanks for the wedding pics! Beautiful as always. Your steps will be in the report this week - thank you!
@PlaneMonkey We had a fine experience at Pearson today- phew! Neat you worked there for so many years. I was saying to Brad as we were wheeling towards the rental cars that 1 hour from our scheduled landing time to be on the move with bags in hand seemed like a reasonable outcome... think we were lucky!! I'll be thinking of you this weekend as we both enjoy the beautiful cottage country of Ontario
We got some supper, checked into our hotel, and we are going to go to the boardwalk for a walk before bed.
Canada's Wonderland tomorrow!! The fact I'm going with no worries of whether I'll fit on all the rides is the best feeling.6
@ashleycarole86 make sure you stay hydrated tomorrow! Wonderland has some great water rides as well to stay cool. The temperatures and humidity are going to be something, for sure! Enjoy, I'm so jealous, but what a great feeling that you know you can go on any ride you choose. I hope it's the best day!2
A day without any pain and mo pain meds ... what a gift!! Now, hoping the effects of this injection lasts for a good while.
@ashleycarole86 re steps challenge. I track my steps via my Fitbit. Very helpful to make sure I hit my minimum exercise goal (10,000 steps). On the days I ride, the "steps" are a bit wonky. Fitbit ignores the time just walking on the horse, but counts trotting and cantering time as running. So the number of additional "steps" can be considerable in a full working session. My question is how/if I would be able to participate in the steps challenge. From my fitbit, I can separate out the time logged trotting and cantering)4
@YinxFed The wedding looked wonderful. I love your beautiful smile.
@ashleycarole86 and @bowens1973 Have a great vacation. Don’t forget to share some photos if you can.
I logged everything and drank my water, but didn’t make my step goal. Juliet spiked a fever and it was super hot out, so I never left the house. The next two days are supposed to be really, really hot. I’ll have to March around my house or dig out my bouncy ball. I was kind of snacky today. Not sure what is up.
Did see a report on my biopsy from the other day. Everything looks good so nothing to worry about there. Hopefully that’s it.
Oh thank goodness! I was posting last night (see above) and my phone died. But alas, it’s somehow still here this am.
It’s another hot one here. Juliet still has a fever. About 100°. So we can’t go anywhere. My Fitbit is charging because it was “critical” battery strength. So I won’t get all my steps recorded on there.
@jan110144 So glad to hear that you are feeling better after your injections. Riding again. How wonderful!!
Stay hydrated 💦 and have a great day.4
😕 up a little this week. I tracked every day except yesterday. Darn drug rep lunch. They brought red robin hamburgers and chips. Yummy but very salty. Hopefully it's just a little fluid weight and go back down next week.5
I think my wedding week caught up with me 😅7

The work trip is going well. Lunch has been good (a small buffet with sandwiches and plenty of fruit), and meals out have been one course, although I did get a dessert back at the hotel this evening as I fancied something and didn't want to go to the supermarket. Our workshops are productive, and the last day is tomorrow so hoping for a mid afternoon finish to get a head start on the long drive home.
We went bouldering this evening (inside on climbing walls) and I was nervous but enjoyed it. I don't like feeling unsafe at heights, so proud that I made it to the top hold on a couple. Gave me a bit of a confidence boost. May do it again back home!
There's a Wednesday flying by!
I got home about noon today. I left Maine at 6:30 am and I am so glad I stayed the night to leave early rather than leaving Tuesday afternoon. My dad fell in the bathroom at 3 am and my step-mother and I were able to get him back up and back to bed. No harm done - just some nasty bruises on the elbow. He just can't get up from the floor once he's down there, and the bathroom is very narrow so turning over onto hands and knees is impossible. If I had not been there, it would have been the fire department! It is amazing that he has fallen a few times but never broken anything or had any other bad damage, but it is only a matter of time, I am sure. 94 is no picnic!
In any case, it is good to be home I got here early enough to do a lot of berry and vegetable picking, watering, and making sure that all my vegetal wonders are doing well. The tall guy has been madly working at re-building a corner of our house that has suffered ant and dry rot damage, so things are progressing. The heat has hit here too - but nothing compared to many other places. I hope everyone is doing OK! @micki48 it is good to stay inside and take care of the little fevered one. Don't worry about the steps, but try to get on the mat for some Pilates if you can! I did some when I got home to counteract car hours, and it sure felt good.
Keep up the great work everyone! Even if you have a small red number, that is just a reminder to keep moving things in the right direction from today on.
Weigh-ins due through Thursday:
Tally ho! especially for you @jan110144 ! I just picture you on your gorgeous horse having a great time. I can't wait to have my new horse here in a few months!4
@ashleycarole86 Enjoy your trip and glad you made it through the airport with no major events. Sounds like you will have so much fun!
@micki48 Hope the little dear is feeling better very soon. Fevers are just no fun at all.
@jugar I am so glad you were there to help your step mom with the father/bathroom extraction experience! How scary 😳 I was just talking to my grandma and she is soon to be 90 and just had a similar fall. Scary stuff for sure. Happy to hear he is ok.
@YinxFed Lovely wedding pictures! Looks like a magical day for sure!
@jan110144 So glad to hear you are getting some relief from the pain! That can be transformative.
To day I celebrated my 40th birthday 🎂 We had a great time at the tea house. We tried 4 different teas and a couple of different scones. They had a pina colada scone that was very yummy. They served 3 types of finger sandwiches and 3 little desserts. Everything was excellent and amazingly had zero calories just for my special day. The tea room had a corner set up with all types of hats and a bench for photos. My youngest especially liked the hats and I think we did 3 hat sessions while we were there! In other miraculous news no tea cups were injured despite the boys really feeling the sugar buzz! It was a really unique way to spend my birthday 🤩
