We have trees that are on the other side of the fence but they have very "long" branches that bring us shade in the Summer when we sit on the patio.

That’s good Linda, you need those Long Branches to bring you shade. If they were Gone that would interfere with shade. Not good!

Even a lone tree can provide enough shade for some people. How nice b to have several shade trees!

In many stories, trees have been a main character illustrating strong character such as talking trees, flaming bushes, and other fables and "lore".

In Australia, we have insects called Wood Borers that bore into the trunks of some trees. They can do a lot iof damage. Do you have insects that do that?

Yes we have some forests in the mountains that are partially dead due to the boring beetles. When they cut the trees down, the wood has blue coloring where the beetles have eaten. They eat to the "core" of the trees. It is sad to see the trees die.

Yes Susan and Linda we have insects that do the same here, they Bore into the trees and do a lot of damage, and yes Linda, they eat right to the core. So sad to see.I have see pictures where they put (Rope) around the trees that have been damaged, guess they are marking them to take down.

Rope or paint markers are pretty common around here. When the weather gets cold, the beetles are killed so I look forward to cold weather. We may have to wear warmer clothes, like a "robe" in cold weather but it does help get rid of the beetles in the trees.

Yes, Borers like that cause a lot of damage. Ours don't die off in winter here as the winters are still warm enough for them to keep living. They are bred tough here and can get quite large. Some even attack houses!

Oh my Bred Tough as you said Susan, and to be so large, kind of scary attacking Houses. And speaking of wearing a Robe Linda, a good idea. If the beetles are so tough they attack houses I think this will cause me to Read up on this subject further!

I wonder what kind of trees these beetles find to be their favorite? We mainly have them in the Fir trees and Elm trees. The Elm beetles are not as destructive as the Fir tree borers are. Do they like "reed(s)" to eat? I do not know if houses in the tropical forests have any problems with beetles that are made with reeds.

We have different kinds of wood Borers thatvattavk various parts of houses, some more serious than others. Here is a page about them:

    https://www.accurate-pest.com.au/PestIdentification/WoodBorer-480/

I am not sure if they would eat dried reeds, Linda. I read that dried woods are not as attractive as sappy woods. My friend Betty Longbeetle reads a lot about insects. Maybe I can ask her.

3sdaiiioiz42.png this is what we have in our backyard on our Elm trees. The beetles get in the house but we are told that they do not bite or cause trouble with humans.

Knowing they will come back each Spring makes me "dread" them coming.

Yes Linda, I would dread having Beetles arriving every Spring and coming in the house and thank you Susan for the link to Read all about the Wood Borers. I don’t like to say but instead of having to Dread the Beetles being alive in the house, if they were Dead there would be no more Dread!
