Daily Check In: Are You On Track Today?

I enjoy celery as long as it isn't bitter. I think I enjoy its crunch as I do with raw cauliflower. Today was a weird diet day for me. I logged all of my food but made less-than-healthy choices and yet went only slightly over my point range. I had some high calorie foods but in small portions. It was a tiring day for me overall. Craig was a huge help with his to do list for me. However, I spent a long time on the phone with tech support for the new printer I recently purchased. I have always set up new printers on my own with no problems, but for some reason this one would connect and set up. Thank goodness for tech support, but it took at least 4 phone calls for it to get all set up correctly. Oddly enough that was an ordeal for me and wore me out. I rested in the evening and then felt "normal" for me again.0
-
I also love crunchy foods Paula. I can see how trying to get a printer set up would be tiring. It's a lot of mental work and probably peppered with some frustration. I am glad you got it working in the end,
We drove out to Westlock to visit with Jim's cousin Scott and family. It was a pleasant evening. Lots of activity which is drastic comparison to how we live with just the two of us. There were lots of people there between little kids, older kids, dogs and puppies. It was a good night but I was exhausted when I got home. I believe that I stayed within my calorie range too. I had to guess on a few things, so I was not 1005 accurate.0 -
Your visit to Jim's cousin sounds wonderful to me, and I certainly understand the resulting exhaustion! I would consider that a healthy good exhaustion. I so value those family connections. I had an unusually good day today for eating. I used only about 2/3 of my daily points! Lately I have not been UNDER my points at all. So this was great, and I was satisfied all day and evening. I had some energy too to tackle one of my monthly to do items, and got through it just in time for our online Vespers service. We had quite an ice/snow/sleet storm tonight, and many churches have cancelled tomorrow's morning services. Things are expected to improve as the day goes on tomorrow.0
-
Today will be a wonderful day to stay and home and watch football. The sun is shining, so that is an added bonus. Do the churches cancel services very often where you are? I feel like we always push to keep things open and I wish we would close. It keeps everyone safer, and there are times that is more important than showing up to a building. We learned that over Covid.
Not much to report on today. DH will cheer for the Chiefs, I will decide once the game gets going. I think I will cheer for the Eagles though. My heart will lead for this one.0 -
It is not unusual for churches to cancel services on snow icy days. Even if the roads are clear/somewhat safe, many churches don't have their parking lots safe in time for morning services. My old church cancelled today which sort of surprised me, but my current church held services which really surprised me. The parking lot at my current church is considerably smaller but we have had issues in the past with the parking lot being cleared in time for church.
We are celebrating the Eagles victory in the Super Bowl. The lopsided score was a surprise. Some of our relatives from TX called us during the 1st half of the game. I was happy to talk with them but also eager to get back to watching the game. I thought it was sweet of them to call however. I didn't track any of my food today. I likely went over my points despite my best efforts and plan. Back to reality for Monday.0 -
I can't believe that our temperature dropped to -22F and that it feels like -40F. I am so glad that I am able to work from home today. Our poor furnace will be put to the test today.
Congrats on the Eagles winning the game yesterday Paula. It was not a very exciting game, but we did watch right to the end. I didn't track yesterday either. Back to reality with you today!0 -
Shari, I cannot imagine how bitterly cold your temps are now. And are you all expected to function as though it was not this cold? How long is this serious cold expected to continue?
I had a very good day today, possibly prompted by my good news at the scale this morning. I weighed in today for the 1st time since January 6 and lost 6 pounds. So I am back to my pre-holiday weight. I am quite surprised because I have had my share of not-so-good eating days over the past weeks. I guess the good days cancelled them out somewhat. I am very pleased and motivated to keep trying.0 -
Going outside takes your breath away. Typically life goes on as per normal. I haven't heard if school busses are running or not. They used to stop running when I had kids in school. It was considered too dangerous for the kids should the bus break down. I get to work from home again today and once again I am superthankful.
You lost 6 pounds Paula!?! That is fantastic. That is great motivation to keep up with having good days.0 -
In our area, which never gets as cold as your area Shari, sometimes the schools delay by 2 hours in what we consider very cold weather, mostly because of concern for the kids waiting outside for the morning buses in such chilly temps. It is another snowy night here so likely schools will delay or close for Wednesday. More snow is predicted for Wednesday and again Saturday. We are in a very wintry pattern.
I had a fairly good day today. I tracked and used all of my points. We had our 2 online classes this evening and both were excellent again. It is tiring for me to have classes back to back on the same night but well worth it in terms of what I learn and how much I enjoy the classes and the interaction online.0 -
We are still cold out today, but not quite as bad. I am not loving this cold snap at all. It's weather like this that makes it hard to believe that there is global warming.
I have been doing pretty good with my diet, but not in a noticeable downward trend yet. I keep hoping and waiting. We shall see what the next couple of days bring. I will track and do my best to stay on track.0 -
Hello! Paula, congratulations on your weight loss!! Shari, I hope you will have a warming trend -I can’t imagine what those temperatures must feel like.
I’ve had a rough week… my DD came over to watch the Super Bowl. Right at kickoff, one of my dogs started barking. I took him out, slipped on ice in the backyard and hit my head on the frozen ground. The goosegg still hurts. Now we’re having freezing rain, lots of ice, and snow. My job is canceled for tomorrow- thank goodness!! Have a great Thursday!0 -
DW So sorry about your fall. That can happen so easily. Happy for you to have a "weather day" off from work. I am sure you could use the time wisely, perhaps for a little extra rest!!
I agree with you Shari that your extreme cold weather suggests questions about global warming. I often think it could be all just part of a large universal cycle that exceeds our understanding.
I accomplished nothing of note today. I did a few little things but felt pretty tired off and on and didn't push myself too hard. A few church friend phone calls took up some of my time, and the day flew by. I ate well and within my plan and happily wasn't very hungry during the day. On Thursday I hope to be more productive.0 -
Yikes DW! Not good to take a fall at all. I hope you enjoy your day off and take it easy so you can fully recover.
I had a good day yesterday apart from eating a couple of things that I did not need to. Hoping to do better today! I am finding it hard to get my steps in. It should get easier as get to the end of February. The weather should warm up and I can get some fresh air steps in.0 -
We expect more snow Saturday, night but some rain could wash it away on Sunday. Then another cold snap is headed our way next week but not as cold as your recent temps Shari.
Today was much different than Wednesday. My energy level was strong, and I accomplished a great deal. So I am happy with how I felt and what I did. I got all but one project finished for our inter church group. The remaining project will be easy, and I have plenty of time before it is due. I also crossed off a good number of household "to do" items. My hunger level was manageable and easy to satisfy today. And I had no need to nap. I sure hope I have a day like this again on Friday too.0 -
I took today off and was able to sleep in. Feels so good! I am getting a haircut at 1pm and then making dinner to enjoy with our neighbours from our last place. Should be a really nice day.
Happy Valentines Day!0 -
Happy for you having the day off Shari and such nice plans for your evening! I have a haircut appointment for next week and hope the weather cooperates. I took the day off from tracking today. I was distracted by odds and ends and never got into my regular daily routine/mode. I was tired again too so didn't push myself to do much. It was a good day, just not very productive. More snow expected tomorrow afternoon into late night, so my stress level will go up over concerns for John and Buster going outside.0
-
We had a really nice day and I was feeling very happy- which was great! I will see how today goes.
My plan for today is to stick to my meal plan. I didn't track accurately yesterday. I plan to go to the gym and then pop in to see my eldest. We may need to help with a toilet repair and shop for a new washer/dryer.
Then it is off to church where we will be serving coffee after the service.0 -
Hello! I hope that you both had a nice Valentine’s Day! I dozed off for a bit in the recliner after supper last night and then was up too late. Thankfully I was able to sleep in this morning! We’ve had rain most of the day and now thick fog. Snow is supposed to start very early tomorrow morning and last all day. Today my DD drove about 1.5 hours to meet one of her college roommates who she hasn’t seen in 20 years. It was a brave venture for her and it went well!! I’m proud of her for taking the risk and re-connecting!
Shari, I hope your day has gone as planned! Paula, it sounds like our potential snow is headed your way. Prayers that we will all stay safe in this crazy weather!0 -
DW, Today we got the snow and ice. We had many early closures of local libraries, museums, etc. Also, quite a few churches have already cancelled Sunday morning services. For Sunday we are under a very high wind warning with gusts up to 60 MPH. We are warned to be prepared for power outages, wind damage, etc. starting Sunday afternoon and continuing through Monday evening. Our temps will rise a bit Sunday afternoon and then plummet in the evening and on Monday.Sure hope our electricity stays on.
My day went well and I was able to address some to do items. I didn't go out of my way with healthy food choices today but ended up just a few points over my range.0 -
DW- So good to hear your DD is venturing out and finding her strength. My heart is with her as she navigates forward.
We have the cold, but not the wind, snow and rain. Stay safe through it all.
Not exactly sure what we are doing today, but I think we will go see my parents. My dad turns 87 tomorrow. That is quite remarkable with his health history. Years of fighting cancer and many years of drinking. I grow more nervous as time passes as we still have both sets of parents alive and my dad is the youngest. I will treasure the time we have left with them.0 -
Will say prayers for your dad on his birthday Shari. Amazing how well he is doing given all he has been through. Prayers for your mom too. It is an incredible blessing you and your DH still have all 4 parents!
So far our power has stayed on despite ongoing very strong wind gusts. Our local news reported quite a few outages in our area. One thing I learned from past outages is how much I miss hot coffee in the morning...or anytime for that matter. So tonight I made a thermos of coffee for John and one for me, just in case the power goes out over night. We raised the heat temp in the house as a precaution too. It is quite warm in here now. Otherwise it was another lazy day for me, including just reheating leftovers for supper. I really have to get serious tomorrow about tackling a long to do list.0 -
Glad you haven't had any power outages Paula. So smart to make coffee for the morning just in case. We are still in that deep freeze. It is crazy how cold it is.
I was back on track yesterday with my eating and with tracking. I think today will be quite easy to stay the course too. I have to remember to get my steps in, yesterday I was a little short and forgot to check before I went to bed. Hoping I can get a few extra in today.0 -
We are still in the Polar Vortex, but the winds have diminished a little. Our power stayed on so far. The WW app was off today. I got a message from WW saying there were technical difficulties with the app and they are working on it. They suggested taking photos of our food to remember what to track when the app is working again. I didn't do that. I have a pretty good memory for food!! I had a VERY productive day today. I worked for several hours on a project for our church group and am very pleased with the result. It was one of those things that needed to be done, but the kind of thing I have to be in the right mood to do well. Today was that day. I also did a few big to do list items. I had great energy today and didn't even need a nap!!0
-
Glad the winds have died down Paula. We continue to be in the deep freeze. It looks like two more days of this. I have no idea how the homeless survive day after day in these temperatures. If I was homeless I would be doing all that I could to move somewhere much more temperate. I haven't heard any news reports about this issue.
I am super thankful to work from home today. I don't think that I could bear having to drive in to the city in this cold weather. It's so much safer to be here at home.0 -
I have seen some local news reports here about our homeless population, so very sad! I know of a number of organizations and even just individual concerned citizens doing whatever they can to help. One of the organizations our inter church group supports is quite active with this problem, but they always could use more help. My current church has a small ministry that helps with local homeless as well.
I had a good and productive day today again. John and I tackled going through one of several "junk" drawers in his room. It was like a treasure chest in some ways, coming across some old photos, including those of 2 of our previous dogs, a harmonica that belonged to my grandfather who died 50 years ago, etc. It really was a walk down memory lane. Of course there were also some items that were garbage worthy, so now John has more space in that particular catch-all drawer. I ate well today and kept my energy level up. Big day tomorrow as we go for our haircuts. Hoping that the van starts as it has been about 2 weeks since Craig ran it for me.0 -
One more cold day and then it will be reasonable outside. I do have to venture out to work today. I will be dressing warm as our office area is never that warm. I will layer, just in case for some reason it's better today.
Going through a junk drawer is such a good thing to do! I am still working on the junk room and not sure when I will sort through it all. I am getting to the stuff I am not sure what to do with. Throwing out useless stuff was easy, putting away the things I wanted to keep was also easy. Now is the time to make the hard decisions and I have been procrastinating. I have a goal to tackle one item per day, but I don't always remember. I will get there eventually.

Nice for you to be able to enjoy some warmer temps this weekend Shari. I think we will have to wait til Monday to really have some warmer temps, but it is something to look forward to. Our trip to get our haircuts was pleasant. The van started right up, not bad for what I refer to as my "frump mobile." I have been craving Thai food for ages. It has been a few years since I have had any. I decided to have it delivered tonight because I didn't want to cook after getting home from the haircuts. I even found something John enjoyed as he is not a big fan of Thai. I ordered pineapple fried rice for him, and he loved it. I had my usual red curry vegetables with shrimp (no rice). It was out of this world. The price was fairly reasonable. I was surprised how reasonable because I ordered from a rather upscale restaurant in our downtown tony area. I didn't track any of the meal yet but might go back and track it for Wednesday just to see how many points I used.0
-
It is still cold this morning, but the forecast says it will warm throughout the day. I can't wait! It will feel like summer after the bitter cold that we have endured.
I love Thai food Paula. Red curry sounds wonderful to me! I have to go back and enter my meal out from yesterday too. I looked it up yesterday, but didn't get so far as to enter it in. Hopefully I didn't over extend on my calories or fat.0 -
It was difficult determining how many points I used with the red curry. It might have taken me over my points because of the calories and fat in the curry sauce. I might have redeemed myself a little by getting no rice and just shrimp and veggies, as both are zero point foods. In any case, to me that meal was well worth it. I truly hope to have it again relatively soon and not have to wait years for another Thai meal! Craig was here today for a few hours and was a huge help with many little things that John and I are unable to do. I expect he will be back next week or the week after that as I have a few more projects in mind for him. I did ok with food choices today, hoping to make up for any damage from yesterday.0
-
I didn't track my food yesterday as I had quite a busy day and didn't end up eating what I had planned to. I still feel good about it, and if I have time today, I can go back and add the foods in.
So thankful for the weekend. I needed to get more sleep last night, but I had to get up to start work on time. We are hosting Bible Study at our place tonight so I need to be home on time and figure what I can feed everyone. DH is at home today and will tidy up the rooms that we need tidied.
The coffee is brewing and I can't to have a cup.0
