I miss our Moe! But I am not ready to get another dog. One day we will. And I too would do some shopping.

I need to tackle Walter and Tony's bathroom. It is pretty bad in there. I want to pull everything out and just put back what they need. Every flat surface is full and everything needs to be wiped/scrubbed down.

I will need to get myself wooden spoons for my honey. I can't believe that this Spring I didn't take a single allergy pill. I was diligent with the honey this past year. I am so thankful! Paula, I hope it works well you and John too. If I take allergy meds too long, my sleep gets disrupted.

Shari, I am glad to read that you plan on having another dog when the time is right. They add so much to our lives. John and I follow dog quite a few local rescues online very closely. It breaks my heart to see so many innocent beautiful dogs euthanized at some municipal shelters because they have no space to keep them with the high rate of intakes these days. We do our utmost best to financially support a number of rescues. You will know when the time is right to bring another dog (or two?) into your life again. Hope all went well with your work Walter's and Tony's. Sounds like a lot of work is needed there.

I enjoyed my Saturday with very little on my to do list so I had lots of relaxation instead. My friend gave us some filled peppers which we will have on Sunday. I love time off from cooking these days. I did ok with food day and wasn't exceptionally hungry so it was kind of an easy food day. My pain was a bit less than usual too. Hoping for this to continue a while.

I have started looking at websites for dogs (don't tell DH). I am sure he will be ready sooner than I will be. I am also string to think of some dog names (unless we get a dog that comes with one already).

We worked so hard yesterday. I am so thankful that today will be a day of rest to enjoy some of things we were able to get done. We fixed a privacy screen that is made of wood cookies. I will get a photo to share. We found the hole in our above ground pool. I found it rather quickly and was so happy. it is now repaired and the pool is set up and cleaned. Ready to be filled. Cleaning it was a lot of scrubbing. Then we went to Walter and Tony's to help Tony find some medical papers. I found those and was so happy. I really didn't think I would. They have sooooo much stuff. Then I filled up some bottles of distilled for them. The distiller is in the basement so I made a few trips. Things are staying fairly tidy (the areas that I have cleaned). I will take some photos when I can.

What a busy Saturday for you Shari! I hope your Sunday was as restful as it could be for you. Being a good neighbor is so important these days, especially with neighbors in need, so to speak. You literally live the love your neighbor commandment.

I enjoyed my Sunday with some rest, reading, and relaxation as well as conversation with an old friend. I was happy to not have to cook since we had the filled peppers. I have healthy meals planned for the week. It is a low demand week for me too, though I am committed to getting 4 bags ready for pick from the Purple Heart organization on Thursday. Since one bag is already ready, it is really only one bag a day for me to fill. I am motivated to do as much as I can because I really need the space for my more favorite garments.

My Sunday was very restful and enjoyable. Lots of time to sit and rest on our deck. I checked in with my mom by phone and she said things were going well with them. I had a really good weekend start to finish! Now to commit my food plan. I think I can do better this week. And I am motivated.

One bag a day is a great goal Paula. I am not there yet, but I am inspired to go through my clothes one day and make my storage more spacious.

My day went by very quickly because I slept late. While I appreciate feeling so well rested, I don't like feeling like I have a shortened day. Every once in a while it is ok I guess, but I am determined to get up at my more regular time tomorrow. I made a big pot of turkey chili today which will feed us for several days. Chili isn't a warm/hot weather food in my opinion but John requested it so I agreed to make it. It is healthy and low in points so that is a bonus too. I have to keep our donation bags light enough for us to get to the front of the house for pick up so filling one bag is easier than I anticipated. I am thinking I can do 2 bags tomorrow.

Paula- I feel the exact same way when I sleep in. The day just feels like it went by too fast. I guess I am more of a morning person. I don't do well to extend my day at the other end. I prefer to get things done earlier in the day and relax in the evening.

Great progress on the bags of clothing.

I visited with Walter and Tony yesterday and helped with a few chores. Walter said he is really weak these days and doesn't think he will be around for too much longer. I know he isn't that wrong, but he has done so well staying alert and active for 93 years. I hope he has a year or two more in him, I am just getting to know him. Tony had a rough night but I think he makes bad choices with supplements and medications. He took gravol for nausea (which is fine, I know the hospital was giving him that), but then he took Tylenol 3 for a headache and then some kind of laxative. He ended up in the bathroom all night. That sapped his energy. I will try and pop over daily for the next while.

Shari, I hope you had a happy Canada Day! Did you do anything special? John and I enjoy watching baseball, especially the NY Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees played the Blue Jays this week and Canada Day was a big part of today's festivities. The Jays defeated the Yanks in both games this week. John and I reminisced about our visit to Toronto many years ago and we remembered riding by the Rogers Centre. I continue to pray for Walter and Tony. I am beginning to feel like I know them, perhaps because so many older folks go thru similar situations.

My day went fairly well. I got behind a bit waiting for a delivery from my pharmacy. They don't lock in to a delivery time, just "sometime after 3 pm," which annoys me, especially since now the delivery is no longer free. It ties me down because I don't like to be far from the door when they deliver as it takes me so long to go from one end of the house to the other. Today I lost about 2 hours just waiting and watching for the delivery. I was able to do other little things but nothing major while waiting. Our turkey chili was delicious again today and very low in points. However, I added no-so-healthy points from some sweets.

We did enjoy Canada Day. We spent the morning doing outdoor work. I picked potato bugs off of our potato plants (we are gardening at Walter and Tony's so technically it's all of our potatoes). I will need to go back tomorrow and see if any more show up. Then we weeded and picked strawberries. They were delicious! In the afternoon we drove to a greenhouse and I bought a couple of plants. DH went to school with the owner. Then we stopped by Johnny's Store. It is out in the country and was a little grocery store way back in the day. Someone recently bought, restored it and now it's a cute little shop that sells coffee, baked goods and beer. They have a lovely patio that filled right up after we got there.

We got a call from Tony in the night. He called an ambulance as he had a bad headache, diarrhea, and I don't recall if there was a third thing. We will check to see how he is doing today. I think he may need more care than we can offer, or even home care could help with. I feel so bad for Walter. I am not sure what will happen to him. He is getting weaker and weaker and he can't care for himself either. I think he could manage with a couple of visits from home care per day. We will have to see what happens.

Johnny's Store sounds like a place I would enjoy (coffee and baked goods….I lost my taste for beer a long time ago). So good that you got to enjoy Canada Day. I can just imagine how delicious and healthy your strawberries are. I hope Tony is ok. Sad situation for Walter too. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

I am very pleased with my Wednesday! There are six bags of clothing outside waiting to be picked up tomorrow for the Purple Heart donation. The bags are about 1/3 full because of not wanting them to be too heavy for John to get outside for the pickup. John was a huge help to me in getting the bags together. Fortunately, our neighbor Blaine was outside when John was struggling to get the bags outside, so Blaine carried them out for us. I realize that these bags are just the beginning of what I can get rid of. I will check on future pick up dates and make sure to gather more clothing. I did track my food and used all of my daily points again. I am telling myself that I moved much more than usual today so perhaps I burned a few extra calories.

Tony is back home. Nothing to report apart from low potassium, which I think is expected with diarrhea. I popped in to see after Walter work and we had a lovely visit. I saw Tony's bag of medications and took photos of them so I could look them up. He is taking 8 pills plus I see a lot of supplements that he may or may not take. I saw that three of the meds cause dizziness and headaches (a big reason he goes to the hospital). One pill might interact with another one but I am not sure. I want to make an appt. with the pharmacist to go over all of the medications. Then we may need to go with Tony to a medical appt to see if he can get off a few of the medications (or try ones with less side effects).

So good you were able to clear out some clothing. I love that someone else will enjoy them as much you were able to. Your extra movement definitely burned extra calories Paula!

Great idea to meet with the pharmacist about Tony's meds. Glad that he is home again. Also, really good if you can go to a medical appointment with him. You will understand much more than he seems to at this point.

My friend Carol met with her surgeon today and the news isn't good. Her breast cancer seems to be more widespread that initially thought. Carol asked if the surgeon could remove more or all of her breast but was told no because the cancer is spreading outward into the muscle. She went to this appt. alone, without her daughter. She cannot begin the radiation until her lumpectomy surgery heals. The good news is this means she will be able to go on her annual vacation to a Delaware Beach with her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and son. It sounded to me like the surgeon painted a grim picture. Carol asked about chemo and the surgeon said it wasn't an option. That surprised me. Carol still needs to meet with an oncologist in a few weeks. I am hoping this will give a more hopeful plan of treatment. I found myself thinking that based on the surgeon appt. I wish Carol would seek a 2nd opinion. Overall Carol seems to be handling this fairly well. The longer we talked the better she seemed.

I stayed well within my points today and made healthy choices including chicken for supper. Those zero point meals help me stay within range.

Paula- I will be praying for Carol. Thank you so much for the update. I agree with you about seeking a second opinion. I think there are times when we really need to advocate for ourselves and not all doctors are equal. She is seeing an oncologist- I am sure they will be able to determine a treatment plan. This situation makes me really appreciate my mammogram results. I had one done last month. I hadn't really thought about the people that go in for routine screening and find out they have breast cancer.

My son from Vancouver is visiting. We had a very good first day with him and his girlfriend. They are doing well and I am so thankful that I can enjoy this time with them. This son is a teacher and a chef. We were spoiled with a very very well executed roast. It was delicious.

    Happy Fourth!!!

Thank you for your care and prayers for Carol. I expect she will call me on Sunday after church, as she typically does. So nice that you are enjoying your DS and his girlfriend. What a bonus that your DS is a chef and a teacher too! What grade level does he teach? We enjoyed a good July 4th and enjoyed our tradition of watching the movie musical 1776 again. It truly is a favorite of ours. Tonight Buster was troubled for the 1st time ever by booming fireworks in our neighborhood. Other years there were much fewer fireworks and the booms weren't as loud. This year 2 of our neighbors had get togethers which were quiet until they started blasting off the fireworks when it got dark. It is all quiet now, and Buster is back to his normal self, but I felt so sorry for him when he was so scared and confused by the noises. I did well with my food choices and points. Hoping for another good WW day tomorrow.

Our son, Kyle, currently teaches middle school. He will have a class of gr 7s in September. His dream is to teach culinary. He is most kid's favourite teacher at his school. He also coaches the girl's volleyball team and enjoys that very much.

I don't think many dogs like fireworks. I hope they didn't last too long. Poor Buster!

I am feeling a bit behind for my mission trip preparation. I am going to block off two hours each work day in my work calendar to focus on it. Too many people are asking me for help and I will have to make them wait until for a time that works better for me. I would like to focus on the trip in the morning and can help people as time permits in the afternoon.

I admire your DS teaching. Middle school kids are at such an impressionable stage in their lives. It is good to have positive role models like Kyle. He sounds so caring and involved in the lives of youth. Just like you Shari too.

Please pray for my dear friend Ed who lives in Louisiana. He is 77 years old and having serious spinal surgery on Tuesday July 8. It is essentially elective surgery for nerve pain, but it is quite involved and in my opinion too risky. I am not sure he made the wisest decision, but it was his decision to make. He has no family and only 2 friends (me and a former coworker who lives in Louisiana). He is a brilliant man in many ways but also quite unhappy in many more ways. He really needs prayer.
I hope Sunday is blessed for all.🙏

Thank you for the kind words Paula!

That sounds like a very risky type of surgery for Ed. I hope he finds it to be successful for sure and will be praying for him. Is the recovery very difficult? I can't imagine going through healing on one's own.

We got rain and we are quite happy. We are gardening just a few things at our neighbour's while our garden has a time of summer fallow. This rain means we don't have to manually water which is wonderful. The potatoes are doing really well and we can't wait to harvest a couple of hills soon.

Hello! Paula, I will also be praying for Carol and Ed! Shari, I'm happy that you are having a nice visit with your DS and his girlfriend!

I had a nice time working at the dog show this weekend. I worked the 4th-6th but carpooled with 2 other women so we split the driving/cost of gas. The club we worked for provided breakfast and lunch as well as pay. The weekend was very hot but we worked in an airconditioned building-so chill that a jacket was needed.

I didn't get to the gym this week. I wish I could find my motivation again-and my energy! I will close since it has been a long weekend. I wish us all a peaceful and healthy week full of good food choices!

DW, Thank you for praying for Ed and Carol. It is so nice that the club you worked for treated you so well…and the added benefit of working in AC. I understand the search for motivation as mine ebbs and flows too. Every good choice is a step in the right direction. I keep reminding myself of that.

Shari, It's great when rain makes us happy! I am sure your potatoes will be delicious! The Eastern European in me just loves potatoes (and cabbage too).

I spoke with Carol today. She was mostly herself chatting about coffee hour and other things from church. She told me her daughter will go with her to the oncologist appointment. I think that is really important and am relieved to know that.

I made turkey burgers today and enjoyed them. I only buy the frozen burgers when they are on sale. They are a nice convenience and healthy too. I made more strawberry shortcake for John and had just a small portion myself. I tracked early in the day but never finished after our evening meal. Perhaps I will go back and log Sunday's food on Monday. It will be easy to do.

Thanks for the update DW! Always good to hear from you. If you can fit going to the gym in your routine you won't regret it. It's difficult to get motivated to go, but I always feel great afterwards. I don't know the secret to motivation, I am better with routines.

It was a good day yesterday but I stayed up way too late and now I am exhausted. Luckily I can work from home. I might need a nap on my lunch break.

I listen to a radio program on weekends, sponsored by the company I use for most of my supplements. The guests are several doctors (cardiologist, eye doctor, podiatrist, orthopedic surgeon)who rotate over the weeks. One topic frequently addressed by all the docs is the important role sleep plays in our overall well being, health, and weight loss success. I hope you were able to catch a little nap today Shari. Stress is also a topic at times. I know I need my rest just to function, and I am working hard lately to make sure I get enough sleep.

John and I ventured out to get our hair cut today. Getting to the van in the garage was really difficult and painful for me. I walk very slowly and today had a lot of pain, but the main thing is we went and got home safely. I am glad that we're good for another six weeks til our next appointment. I did ok with my food and tracking today. My energy was a bit low even before going to the appointment. Tuesday should be a much easier day for me.

    shariletts Posts: 1,183 Member

I would like to sleep better. I know there is room for improvement in that area.

I am glad you were able to venture out for haircuts. Not so good that you struggled with pain to do it. I hope things go better next time Paula. Any news on Ed or Carol?

Happy to report that so far so good with Ed's surgery. His friend from Louisiana called to tell me the surgery went well and that it took only an hour instead of the anticipated 3 hours. She said the surgeon said it all went "perfectly" and that Ed was sleeping/resting. John and I are very relieved. Ed's recovery will be a long process, but one day at a time, as they say. I have to say I enjoyed hearing the very Southern accent in his friend's voice. She sounds just like a Southern belle out of Gone with the Wind!

I had an excellent day all around today. I logged everything and was well within my point range. Today I had great energy and accomplished quite a bit around the house. I slept longer today and believe that helped me a lot with energy and productivity. We are hosting the quarterly church group meeting here on Sunday so I have a lot of prep to do before the meeting. And, guess what…the prez has called several times and couldn't be nicer and more cooperative. She has been delightful to work with this time. Hoping this continues onward.

    shariletts Posts: 1,183 Member

That is good news about Ed's surgery Paula! I hope the recovery isn't too difficult for him. I wouldn't have any idea what he can expect. Glad you enjoyed the accent. It is quite remarkable that the Prez has had such change in being cooperative. That is terrific and will make hosting that much easier.

I haven't on par with my eating or tracking. I am not sure what happened but I do need to get back to it. Hopefully I can do better today.

Shari, I hope you had a successful day with eating and/or tracking. It is so easy to get away from that depending on what else is going on in our lives. Ed called today and is doing relatively well. The good news is that in a day or 2 he will be going to a rehab hospital for at least 5 days. This is crucial in my opinion since he lives alone with no one close to really assist him. I am a bit less worried about his recovery since the rehab has been approved.

I have another prayer request to share here. My first cousin Gregory (his dad and my mom were brother and sister) is having surgery on Friday. The procedure is angioplasty and a stent to be put in his carotid artery. Greg is about 72 years old (and looks 40). His doctors say he has had several strokes on the left side of his brain but with no symptoms. And yet the carotid blockage is on the right side. The problem was discovered when he was undergoing tests for a vision problem related to optic nerve neuropathy. Such a complicated case. Please keep Greg in your prayers.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,183 Member

That is a wonderful answer to prayer for Ed. So good he can get to rehab to cover and be monitored. I will be praying for Gregory Paula! Our neighbour Tony has had that procedure a few times and it has really helped. I think it helps immediately. The blockage on the right side would impact the left side of his body Paula, from what I recall. My husband is a lefty so his line is always that he is the one in his right mind. 🙄

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,344 Member

Shari, John is a lefty too. I'll tell him the line about being in his right mind. He'll love it (and agree with it, lol). I had a very productive 2 days getting ready for my cleaning service this Friday and prepping for Sunday's meeting. Craig came today to do some outside work and will come back on Saturday to do more. Our weather hasn't cooperated much for folks to work outside with so much rain and then sweltering heat & humidity. I am happy that some of the outside work will be done before my friends come for Sunday's meeting. John & I worked hard for 2 days with inside house prep. We even filled another bag to donate to Purple Heart. This bag is full of John's clothes. I am pleased with what we completed. I made another ground turkey stir fry for supper, very low in WW points and very satisfying. I made brown rice for John but didn't have any myself. It just didn't seem worth the points to me. For some reason I am not tempted to snack in the evening anymore. This is really a change for me, and I like it. I hope this continues.

I didn't manage to get back on track yet. Today I will have another go at it! I think once Kyle leaves I will settle back into routine. A little more going on with his visit, but it is so wonderful to have him that it is okay!

I took the day off from work to spend with Kyle. We have a few things that we would like to do, once is to go to the gym. I missed my last work out with being so busy.

Sounds like things are going well for you Paula and that is great. Cleaning up, eating well and not snacking. So good.

Any update on Ed or Carol?

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,344 Member

I like that you and Kyle can go to the gym together Shari. I think a little "time off" from our diet routines is fine and can actually do us some good. I did ok with eating today but didn't track anything. I know what I ate so I could easily go back and record it all. I have been having a nice salad with supper every day and am beginning to think that might be why I am not craving snacks at night. I was tired mostly all day. Perhaps my efforts of the last few days are catching up with me. I got a few things done today but napped in the afternoon while the cleaning service cleaned the other end of the house. My energy level often picks up later in the day so I was able to do few things after supper. I didn't hear from Ed or Carol today, but Greg's surgery went well. He is expected to be in ICU for observation till Saturday. His wife thanks everyone for their prayers.

Kyle and I had such a good workout together. We were able to push each other for that one last lift. I am a little bit sore, but not bad at all. I can recover today and then we plan to go to the gym on Sunday. Kyle is here until Tuesday morning, then he heads to Calgary for a stretch. He and Claire have a wedding next weekend.

I ate much better yesterday so that felt good. I havent started tracking again, I should get back to it once Kyle leaves. I don't have as much time to track with the extra time I spending with him.

I am glad Greg's surgery went well. I hope he feels so much better!
