Greg was discharged from the hospital today and says he feels great, just a bit tired. He needs to take it easy for about a week. His blood flow in his right carotid artery went from 23% pre-op to 100% post-op. Just amazing what me doctors can do today. Greg and his wife Patty send you thanks Shari for your prayers.

I had another busy and productive day getting ready for tomorrow's meeting. Craig finished up most of the outside work and helped me with a few of the inside tasks as well. As usual John was a huge help too. I am quite pleased with all the 3 of us accomplished. I did ok with food but didn't track again. I sort of cleaned out most of the leftovers from all week and had a smorgasbord evening meal. If I get inspired, perhaps I will still log it all on my app. The leftovers were mostly protein and non-starchy veggies so low in points. I must admit I will be very happy when the meeting is over and everyone is gone so that I can just relax and read for the evening! By the way, the Prez continues to be as nice as can be. Fingers crossed this will continue tomorrow.

    Sunday blessings!

Hello! Shari, I’m happy that you are having such a nice visit with your DS!! Paula, I’m happy that Greg’s surgery went well and hope his recovery is going smoothly! I’m also happy that Ed’s surgery went well and that he’ll be going to rehab!

I also have a lefty in the house- my DH, but I am not going to tell him that he’s in his right mind 😂

I’ve been exhausted all week, probably from working all last weekend. I slept in this morning and plan to sleep in Sunday as well but will get up in time to go to church. I’ve been doing better at logging my food this week but still didn’t get to the gym.

Paula, I hope your meeting goes well! I hope you both have a blessed Sunday!!

How amazing that Greg's blood flow has been restored. Truly a gift for both Greg and Patty. That is a PTL! I am sure the meeting will go well Paula, and agree that it wouldn't be wonderful for the Prez to stay in a much better frame of mind.

I hope you are able to get caught up on your sleep DW. I was so tired last weekend and I didn't like feeling like that at all. I don't think I will make it to the gym today (I didn't go yesterday as we were helping one of our son's girlfriend move), but I am so sore today.

I will enjoy a day of rest and spend some time outside to enjoy the little gardening that we have done. I might pop in to see Walter and Tony too. I like to say hi when I have time. It helps that they are so close by.

It seems that sleep continues to be a important issue for all 3 of us. Good that all 3 of us are focusing on its importance to our overall well being as well as in our daily lives. DW, congrats at logging your food! I know logging helps me but I still get lazy about it sometimes. Today was one of those days when I didn't log anything at all. It wasn't a horrible eating day, but I am sure I was over my points. Shari, glad you have a day to enjoy the outdoors. I know you like the outdoors, and it holds many benefits for all of us to make the most of it.

The meeting went very well today. The prez was on good behavior and wasn't really difficult today. Let's hope this trend continues. As usual, John and I ended up with the most work to do to follow up on the meeting discussions and plans, but I don't mind that since I think we do a very good job with what comes our way.

I spoke with Carol tonight and am concerned. She met with the radiologist and the oncologist and has no answers about anything. Both doctors told her that they won't develop a treatment plan (chemo, radiation, oral meds, etc.) until more "test results" come back. Carol is assuming that this means studying the biopsy samples but isn't sure. Her daughter went with her to both appointments, but they left with no answers or direction. Carol leaves next Sunday for a week of vacation so it could be 2 weeks before anything else is planned for her. Please keep praying for her.

Paula- that does seem quite baffling as to why she would have a meeting with two doctors who end up not giving her more information about her cancer or treatment plan. I will continue to pray for Carol.

I had a quiet day which was wonderful, although I must say it is difficult for me to sit still. I am working on resting, but I find myself thinking about all of the things that I could be doing. I am trying to focus on enjoying the fruit of my labour, but it sure doesn't come naturally.

I noticed today that the other discussions on our group page have been closed by FitnessPal. It makes sense since those topics haven't had any posts in quite a long time. I hope you area able to enjoy quiet relaxation from time to time Shari. I understand that with so many things to address you have a tough time sitting still. At the same time however I think it is important to focus on what I consider "me" time. I struggled with this when I worked. Now I just get anxious when I know I have more to do than my body agrees with.

I tracked all of my food today and used all of my points. I wasn't overly hungry and wasn't overly energetic either, sort of recovering from a busy Sunday I guess. I had a somewhat involved task to do for our church group, and it had to be taken care of by Tuesday. I asked the prez to drive to deliver it, but she out and out refused. She knows I don't drive much and how tough it is for me to get in my van. So I had to hire Craig to drive about 2 miles (at most), the same distance the prez would have had to drive. When it was all completed I called her to say it was taken care of. Her response was "ok." Sheesh, no thank you, no great, nothing. I don't think she has a grateful cell in her body. I actually feel sad for her.

Thankful to work from home today! I was up too late and sleeping in a bit was very helpful. It will be so wonderful to work less hours. Next May I am going to ask to go half time or retire. I keep looking at everything through that lens now. I will be good and ready to retire when the time is right. There are so many things that I will be able to do around the farm. I think I will give chickens a try. Lots of dreaming going on lol!

Paula, you had hope with the Prez for a short while. I feel sad for her too, but she probably isn't self aware enough to know how she is impacting others.

Shari, it sounds like you have a good and reasonable plan approaching retirement. I could see how both options are appealing and yes, I think you will be ready at the right time. Life has a way of working out that way. I like the idea of chickens! Will you have fresh eggs?

My day was ok but not great. I cooked healthy meals but caved with a sweet craving that put me over my points….not off the charts but too many points to be helpful at the scale. I had a light to do list so no stress there. Tomorrow's list is not too demanding. Buster goes to the groomer tomorrow, always an exciting event for him!

I would love to have fresh eggs! I am not quite sure how much work it will end being though. I know a few people that have chickens and they enjoy the eggs and the chickens. DH loves building things, so he would build a coop. That is a next year project, or in two years.

Paula, I sure today will go better with your eating plan. Buster will no doubt be exhausted after getting groomed, but will be so proud of his new haircut!

I popped in to see Walter yesterday evening. He is going to bed quite early these days and I fear his energy levels are not what they were a month ago. He looks quite tired and is achy and share with me that he doesn't think he will be around much longer. I understand that since he is 93, but I am not ready to lose him just yet. He really fills my soul when I visit him.

It's fascinating how life works sometime. I loved reading that both you and Walter benefit from your visits. I'd say both of you are very special.

Yesterday Buster started panting and shaking a little in the afternoon after John got back from being out with a friend. Buster had no other symptoms but panted, shook, and wanted me to hold him. Over time he calmed down, and I attributed it to maybe a little anxiety because John was out for a while (but this has never happened before). Today Buster went happily to the groomer when she picked him up and came home happy too. But in the early evening he started with the same panting and shaking and wanting to be held again. The house is cool so it isn't likely heat related. Eventually I called Craig to come over in case we needed to take Buster to an emergency vet. I tried an online vet service that didn't work out…we waited too long and got no help. Over time again, Buster calmed down while Craig held him while I was working to get an online vet. Buster is fine now. Outside of the panting/shaking incidents he is fine…eating, playing, pooping, peeing, doing everything normally. These panting/shaking incidents are concerning and stressful to me and John. I might call our vet tomorrow just to see what they tell me. (The rest of my day was off too, except for my eating. I did fine with tracking and staying on plan.)

Paula- here is a website that may give you some answers: https://www.petmd.com/symptom-checker

I hope Buster doesn't have more episodes today!

Not much to report today. I worked and then didn't do too much else. I didn't track my food. I plan to today.

Thanks for the link Shari. I was pleased to see that it also provides an online chat with a vet for those who have Chewy accounts, which I do. Fortunately Buster had no episodes of panting today. He is back to his normal self. Hope this lasts.

I was very tired today and wonder if it was from the stress of Buster over the past days. My pain level wasn't bad so I don't think the fatigue is related to a flare. I didn't do much today and tried to rest and nap but did have a few phone interruptions. I feel much better now and well rested finally. My eating was on track today. I planned what I wanted to eat and stuck to the plan and tracking. I have planned tomorrow's meals as well as my to do list. I don't want to get too far behind in my "to do" items.

    Good news about Buster!

I have had trouble being on plan lately. Everyday I want to get back to it and something unexpected happens around dinner plans. Tonight I have a meal out, but I will have a couple of tacos which won't be too damaging. I plan to track what I eat today and so far breakfast is accounted for! That is a step in the right direction.

So glad it's Friday. I look forward to waking up without an alarm tomorrow.

I also enjoy days when I don’t have to have an alarm wake me up.

I had another good day today. I tracked everything and stayed in my point range. I have had one somewhat time consuming task to do and have been avoiding it for well over a week. Many of those days I felt too tired to tackle it. But today I didn’t feel tired or fatigued. I am so happy that this chore is done. I have no major plans for Saturday. I hope to read and watch some documentaries or movies that I have put on hold for a while.

Well, I forgot that I had a mission team meeting this morning. An alarm was set last night and I am up with my typical morning routine apart from having a banana. Which I am sad about. I will need to pick some up on my way home from the meeting.

I almost tracked the day yesterday. I missed a few things, but at least I am heading in the right direction once again.

Oh my Shari, I was hoping you would enjoy a later wake up. I hope that after your meeting you were able to do something in the area of "me time." You'll get back to full tracking. I am confident you will, as I am back to tracking after quite a few "off" days. I didn't get to read or watch documentaries today. My neighbor Jane came to visit in the afternoon. It has been a while since we talked at any length. I enjoyed her visit and didn't care about reading or anything else while she was here. She is such a sweet gal. Buster loves her and snuggled with her all the while she was here. I made tacos for supper using ground turkey because of the lower points involved. I haven't really planned tomorrow's main meal but I think it will be chicken. On days when we eat meat it is almost always chicken or turkey.

I had such a full day yesterday! After my mission meeting was over, one of the team members who had just left the building texted me, asking me to come to the door of the church (it was locked). I went to meet her and she was with what appeared to be a women having a panic attack. It was raining, she couldn't calm down and she said she was homeless. She was at the church to go to the free tax clinic that we offer but she was an hour early and so distressed. I brought her inside and sat her down while she just let words flow out of her mouth. I was trying to figure out to do next when one of our pastors came to the church (not for work related purposes) and took over for me. I didn't mind being with her, but it shortened up my day. Then DH and I went to the neighbours to help out a bit. I feel like by the time that I got home the day was done, but I was committed to go to the gym. Then we opted to watch church online instead of drive in.

Today is my sabbath and I was able to sleep very well. Looking forward to spending the day resting and doing a few of the things that I love to do. -I managed to track yesterday! That was a win.

Shari, You and your team member were angels to help that poor woman who was in such distress. We never know when we will be called on to help someone in such need. Your concern and help likely made a huge difference in what sounds to be a very fragile life. Congrats on tracking and also going to the gym even when you could have found reasons not to go. That is commitment! Hope you enjoyed the Sunday you were aiming for.

My Sunday went by quickly. I spent time with Ed on the phone trying to help him deal with some post-op issues, including what he thinks is an allergic reaction skin rash of unknown origin. Ed is typically a highly negative person who can be very frustrating, and today was no exception. He found many things to complain about regarding the surgery, doctors, the medical community in general, etc., despite that he is doing remarkably well except for this rash. I finally told him to stop admiring the problem and do something to try to help it, even if it is something simple like applying an over the counter cortisone cream to see if that helps the rash. I sure hope the cream helps because I know how uncomfortable skin problems can be.

I had a wonderful Sunday. I rested and I think the rainy weather helped me to be successful.

Paula- what a great line- Stop admiring the problem. I love that! I think it will stick with me and inspire me to do something rather than fretting or complaining. I do hope Ed gets some cream that will help with the rash.

Just a short message today, I accidentally set my alarm to pm and overslept a bit.

Hello! I started this note last night and promptly fell asleep. When I woke up, I went to bed 😂

I’m glad that you are both doing well! Shari, I hope your day went well after your unexpected extra sleep. Paula, I also enjoyed your line “ stop admiring the problem “. I have not heard that before.
Things here have been hectic as always. Both dogs had their annual exam and immunizations today so yesterday we did nails and a bath for each. I did get to church. Our minister just got back from a week as director of church camp and he showed slides and talked about his experience. I was practically in tears because that is the same camp I attended through Jr. high and high school. It was a life- changing experience for me and I’m so happy that it still is for others!
DD ran errands with me on Saturday and came over to help with dog baths yesterday. She is starting online counseling tomorrow and I’m happy about that! Nothing else is new here. I hope you both have a great week!!

DW, Church camp was a huge part of my life from the time I was 8 years old. I was a camp counselor at the same camp from about age 16 to 21 and made some of my dearest friends there, including John's Godmother. I watched the 1st moon landing at camp in July 1969, talk about memories! Your dogs sure keep you busy, but a good kind of busy in my book.

Shari, Woo hoo for your restful Sunday. A rainy Sunday can be very relaxing!

I had another busy day getting ready for company coming tomorrow and also had an unexpected visitor this afternoon. It seems like every day someone is here at times, and sometimes I honestly just want more quiet time to do what I want. I appreciate my friends/visitors, but I get tired prepping for visitors at times as it can take a lot out of me. I tend to keep a lot of things out in easy reach and access for me and John, but I think it makes the house look sloppy to outsiders who don't truly understand our situation (even if they think they do). Things are in pretty good shape here now for visitors I think. I also have another visitor (also who invited himself) coming on Wednesday, and John has a friend visiting on Thursday (that I don't mind because this guy is a great friend to John).

Church canp is something we all have in common. I loved going as a kid and still love going with our youth. Although now I worry about snoring in a cabin full of young people. Lots of good memories from camp!

I don't have the same challenges that you do Paula an I struggle to have company over too often. I thrive on a schedule of a few days to myself and one or two with people. If I am booked up three days in a row, I don't feel re-energized.

DW- I love counselling. It has been such a benefit to me personally. I hope your DD's experience is just as fruitful.

My visit from 3 of my friends went ok. They are very nice people, and we all have been friends a very long time, but one of them (the same one who makes the filled peppers for us) can be difficult/bossy at times, similar to prez but not as extreme. I got a little short with her at one point (not typically in my character), but I think it went right over her head. So that was good in the long run. The rest of the visit went well. The visitor who is coming tomorrow called today, and suddenly I feel better about his visit. The house looks good, and I am relaxed now for that visit. My diet was off today, and so was my tracking. After my visitors left I took a very deep and much needed nap. I woke up feeling refreshed and strong again.

My diet was also off as we stopped for burgers on the way to airport. We dropped off my youngest and his girlfriend as they went back to Vancouver. We really enjoyed their visit. They had two weddings this summer so we got to have our son here for a couple of weeks. His gf had to back in between for work.

The youth pastor is back after a month of vacation. The other youth pastor is on Mat leave. It was a nice to have that time to myself! I am not sure I am ready for his return, but today I will be at the office and I believe we will spend some time catching up with each other. This year will be a different with some new staff in our department that will cover the maternity leave. I am thankful that my youth role comes second nature. I will have time to do some training with the new people.

You've had quite a busy few weeks Shari. Wonderful to enjoy special times with your DS and his GF. Nothing compares to family time for me. It is clear how well suited you are for your youth work. How soon do you leave for your mission trip?

I really need to get serious about my diet again. I am too easy come easy go about things lately. Today was a marginal day at best. I gave myself another pep talk tonight. I know I am just spinning my wheels mixing good days and not good days. I don't foresee any major interruptions to a healthy eating plan for the next few weeks. So I am aiming for a no excuses streak. Fingers crossed!

Our trip goes from Aug 11-21. I am getting quite excited to head out on this adventure with the team. I think they will really be impacted and bring home a fresh new perspective to live by. It did for me when I went last year. The memories are so dear to my heart still.

Always a push to stay on course with the diet plan. Why is it so difficult!!!

Your mission trip will be here soon Shari. Your excitement is understandable. I already look forward to learning about it when you get back. I did well today, logged everything including the piece of nut roll I ate when we served it to John's friend and his wife who visited today. The nut roll was 11 points but I still stayed in my range by planning and eating mostly zero point foods (chicken, fruit, veggies). As usual I was tired after our visitors left and again had a deep sleep nap and woke up refreshed. I guess this is just my pattern for now.

Paula, If you would like to receive our daily updates while we are away, I can add you to our emailing list. This is simply an offer, no worries should you want to keep your email private!

And great job on food tracking, I tracked my main meals but didn't add some of my snacks. I think I did okay, apart from not eating enough protein. I can building on my accomplishments.

I didn't make it to the gym yesterday. I was helping out at Tony and Walters. There place is sooooo hot. It sucked the life out of me after being there for an hour and a half. I will go to the gym today for sure.

Hope you got your gym time in today Shari. I am sure your effort with Walter and Tony was its own special kind of work out!

I tracked everything today and stayed in my point range, despite some snacks being high in points. I am aiming to focus on more healthy choices on Saturday. I have some work to do for our church group and haven't been in the mood to do it. I am promising myself to get it finished tomorrow.
