Daily Check In: Are You On Track Today?

Last night a friend joined me in Walter and Tony's garden. We picked a lot of weeds! And then we picked some raspberries. We had such a lovely visit while we were there. I did make it to the gym beforehand, so I had a lot of physical activity yesterday. Today I slept waaaaaay in. Crazy. I have to tell myself that I needed the restoration and try not worry about losing so much of the day.
I hope you manage to get to that project Paula! I totally understand needing to be in the mood to do certain things.0 -
Shari, did you get the fitnesspal mail I sent you with my email? Just checking because I don't use that feature and want to make sure you got it. I slept later than usual today too. I think it paid off for me because I was very well rested and productive all day long and didn't have even a short nap. I still didn't work on the church group tasks because I was busy doing other household things. I am giving myself till Tuesday to get this project off my list. I did very well with eating and tracking today. It seemed easy because I had no cravings and made all healthy choices. So often I find myself asking why every day isn't like today!
Here we are with another Sunday upon us. Let's all enjoy the blessings that come with it.

I did not get it Paula! I tried posting a message on your activity, but couldn't figure out how to send you an message privately. I will try and figure that out.
Glad you ate well Paula. I was way over in my fat intake after eating a croissant sandwich at lunch. I should have know that the croissant was going to be a lot of fat since it is made with so much butter. I will try to do better today! And like you, I ask that same question of myself when I have a good day.Have a blessed Sunday.

Shari, on the Fitnesspal homepage at the top of the page, next to the user name is little envelope. If you click on that there should be a fitnesspal email from me with my personal email. There is a number next to it telling you how many emails you have waiting I think. I used "messaged you" in my last post, but probably should have said emailed you on Fitnesspal. Let me know if you now can access what I sent to you via fitnesspal email.
My day was ok but not great. I was hungrier than usual and kind of tired too. I rested off and on. I sort of grazed all day as often happens when the hunger monster appears. Some of my grazing was healthy but not all of it. I didn't track everything. I did estimate some nibbles however.

Paula! I have your email at last. I had to log out of MFP and then back in. When I tried to send an email back to you, I got an error. I will try and figure out why. Something about captcha.
We had a very restful day today apart from a few hours at a baby shower. I also grazed and glad for a new day to try and eat better. DH had a few naps today, he just couldn't keep his eyes open.

I'm glad you got the email Shari. I had a very good day today. I slept later again and went through the day feeling very well rested. No nap needed today! I completed 3/4 of the church group project. I couldn't do the last part because of needed information I haven't received from an agency we support. I will easily be able to complete the last part as soon as I get the missing info. I ate well and totally within my point budget today. I feel confident that I can repeat this success on Tuesday.

I hope your success with food choices rubs off on me today Paula. I was under in the calories I can eat, but I made a few poor choices in the evening. I am hoping to do better today. We have left over chips from a gathering we had last week, I need more self control not to eat them!

Shari, Thank you for telling me about the Chewy online vet service. Buster had another "episode" this evening so I used the free service. The vet was very helpful and understanding. It could be anxiety or it could be a medical problem. I will call Buster's vet tomorrow. My day was good for food and tracking. My cleaning service was here today and came much later in the day than usual. I had to rush supper preparation so we wouldn't be late for our online Bible study.
0 -
I am glad that the online vet service was helpful Paula. I hope Buster gets a clear diagnosis so you can help mitigate any further episodes.
I tracked yesterday and didn't make poor choices, now to carry that forward to today. I have to go to the office and for some reason I don't do as well when I am away from home. I will be sure to pack a good lunch so I don't go looking for office snacks.0 -
Congrats on a tracking good choice day Shari. Hope your day at the office didn't tempt you too much with snacks. I stayed within my point budget, but it was a struggle in that I was craving some higher point foods. I found today that tracking helped keep me in reality. Buster has an appointment to see our vet on Thursday. The tech I spoke with said the vet listed a long number of possible causes for these "episodes," including anxiety, illness, pain, environmental, etc. So I am sure it is better to have him checked. His blood work done in May was normal but as the tech said, things can change. Buster was his good old self in every way today. I am a bit anxious about driving to the vet because very heavy thunderstorms and possible flooding are predicted for just about all day Thursday

I didn't make good food choices yesterday so I will attempt to better today. I can do this!
I hope the drive to the vet goes well and that the storms don't impact your trip. I am sure you will get relief once you see the vet. I have no clue how they diagnose anxiety for dogs. Praying for a good outcome.0 -
Hello! I hope you are both doing well! Paula, I hope that you were able to get some answers for Buster! Shari, your trip is getting closer! So exciting!!
I am at a dog show near Youngstown, OH. We got here last night. My girl isn’t entered this weekend, we’re just here to help with our club’s activities. I’m the acting President of the club, so DH and I will be busy working on our club’s activities.
So far my eating hasn’t been what it should be but I plan to do better tomorrow. I’m not logging it this weekend but have a good idea of how I’m doing. I hope you both have a great Friday!!0 -
DW- You are the acting President! That is so good. I hope all goes well for you this weekend and it is a very positive experience.
I finally had a good day at making smart food choices. I know it is possible, it just takes some responsibility and some will power. I love my food, I just love the bad foods a bit too much. But, after yesterday's success, I am ready to do it again. I am setting my mind to making this year the weight starts to come off. I will spend the rest of this calendar year building and maintaining the good habits and then from Jan to Mar I am going to embark on a fat loss phase.

Weird, I wrote a post last night but it didn't post. Yet is here in its entirety. I like the plan you posted today Shari. Now that August is here I am focusing on weight loss in time for my cardiologist appointment in late October. I am determined to weigh significantly less than I did at my last cardiologist appointment 2 years ago. I know it can be done. Tonight my neighbors Jane and Blaine are bringing us Greek salads from a local restaurant. I think that won't be the lowest point option, but I am already figuring it into my total points for the day.
The section below is what I typed but didn't post last night:
DW, Sounds like you have a busy and exciting weekend ahead of you! I spent time in the Youngstown area in my youth as my dad's brother and family lived in Warren Ohio. I haven't been to that area since the late 1980s and early 90s. I have many fond memories of that area. Sending you best wishes for a successful and fun weekend.
Shari, Yes you can do this. So glad we have the 3 of us to support each one of us in our efforts.
Everything went well with Buster's vet visit, except we have no real answers. The vet ruled out most medical possibilities but is running one more blood test just to cover another possibility. He suggests that we give Buster a daily dose of Zylkene, an over the counter supplement derived from milk that has calming qualities. I think I might have tried this on my own when we first got Buster in an effort to help ease his separation anxiety. We will give it a try again now. The vet suspected that Buster was having a fear response perhaps to something outside, but we couldn't come up with what that could be.

Hello! We have a long weekend and I am so thankful. I will really appreciate spending some time our backyard and not sitting at a desk all day.
Paula it's good Buster doesn't appear to have any medical issue. Now that you know what to look for, maybe you will be able to figure what could be triggering him.Let's do well with our eating choices today!

Enjoy your long weekend Shari! It is so nice to have an extra day when a holiday rolls around.
Buster's blood work came back normal. The vet called this morning with the results. He thinks something outside is scaring Buster, but we all are stumped as to what that could be. Buster hasn't had an episode since Tuesday evening.
I had a list of little to do items today and accomplished all of them. Sometimes the little things can be annoying till I get in the mood to do them. We have no plans for tomorrow and hope to keep it that way. I did very well with my food choices today and had no cravings or hunger attacks.
Sunday blessings to all!!

I did well sticking to my meal plan. I am glad for that!
Good to hear that Buster doesn't have a medical condition, now to see if you can discover what could giving him anxiety outdoors. I hope you can figure it out Paula.Walter called us yesterday when we were on our way to church. He said he thought Tony was on the toilet for the last hour and he was worried. We turned around and headed to their place. Tony was back in his bed, but had been in the washroom. He had/has diarrhea. He was asking if he should go to the hospital. We are starting to see that Tony really seeks medical attention and I think that is how he feels valued. Anyway, I said we could the health line and see what they said. We ended up missing the call back, which was very disappointing, but I had been asking Tony questions about his day. He mentioned he drank an Ensure so I went to the fridge to take a look. The fridge isn't working well and I was questioning him if it was a new bottle or one that he was finishing. In the fridge, I picked out an Ensure, the expiry date was 2021!!! I looked up what could happen if someone drank Ensure that was 4 years too old, not suprising, his symptoms are all listed. I made him some toast, gave him some gingerale and suggested to see how he did through the night rather than go to the ER. He agreed. We haven't heard from him so far, so I think he is probably on the mend.

How frightening that Tony was drinking expired Ensure! How fortunate that you were available to take care of him with the toast and gingerale and probably most importantly your attention. I keep gingerale on hand in case John or I have upset tummies.
I didn't track today but could have. I ate well and had delicious salmon and a salad for supper. I might go back and track tomorrow if I have more time. I spent a lot of time on the phone today with Carol and also Alice, another church friend. (The 3 of us have always been our own little trio at church.) Carol's breast cancer has spread to her pectoral muscle. The oncologists she has seen have recommended chemo and radiation. Carol has decided not have the chemo but will have the radiation. Alice is very upset with Carol's decision and has talked to Carol about getting the chemo. My conversation with Carol found her very positive and at peace with her decision. I didn't try to change her mind about anything. She might eventually change her mind, but that is entirely up to her. She has a few more medical appointments coming up before beginning the radiation. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Thank you for the update on Carol. It is so hard to hear that the cancer spread and that Carol will be undergoing some extremely harsh treatment to beat the cancer. I will continue to pray for her. How amazing that she holds on to peace and positivity.
We checked on Tony and Walter yesterday. They were both doing a bit better. Tony was feeling stronger. and I am thankful for that. I made them dinner. I knew that I had frozen some meatballs for them, so I warmed them up in a home made sweet and sour sauce. Then I cooked carrots and potatoes. DH mashed them both and both men ate and enjoyed the meal. At least I think they did. We have asked that the health nurse reassess them as we think they need more help. At least with toileting. Right now they get a shower once a week.
I have put together 3 days of good eating and saw the scale come down a bit. That was super encouraging. I need to keep this up!

Congrats on your 3 day streak Shari and your good news at the scale. I was/am stressed today. On Friday I had the annual maintenance performed on our AC system. The tech said all is well and everything looked good. Well today the AC stopped working. I called the company that did the maintenance, and they won't get here till Wednesday to check it out and I hope repair it. Not sure if I will be charged for this. I guess it will depend on what is wrong, but it is stressful to me. It was not too uncomfortable here today thanks to a few ceiling fans we have. I was also quite tired today but surprisingly didn't overeat at all. I rested/slept a little more than usual in the late afternoon and felt fine when I woke up.
0 -
Paula-hopefully the repairman simply hit a switch and just had to flip it back on. Such a coincidence that the AC stops working right after getting maintenance done. I would be frustrated.
I am pretty tired myself this morning. I could have a slept an extra or more! Oh well. I am up and getting my morning routine done before I head to the office. This time next week, I will be waking up in Guatemala.

I can't believe how quickly your mission trip will be here Shari. I am excited for you and the good work you will be doing there. I was able to sleep really late today and felt good all day, although it was sort of a shortened day because I slept so late. I did well again with food and tracking. Maybe feeling very well rested helped me. I am expecting the AC tech to come Wednesday morning so I will be up early waiting eagerly for the house to be cooler. I have plenty to do tomorrow so being up early should help with my tasks.

I was pretty tired after work and didn't too much done around the house. I had hoped to pack my personal bag but I rested instead. I still have five evenings to get that done. I will also get all of the paperwork I need to take with me in order. I don't want to miss anything. Things are coming together quite well.
Paula- it will help to get the house cooler. I think being overheated takes away one's energy.
I did well sticking to my meal plan, I didn't track, but I am going to back and get that done now.

Glad you stayed on your plan Shari. I did not do well today. My day was very disrupted by the AC repair. The tech who worked here on Friday came today to repair it with another tech. Both are really nice guys. They were due here by 10:30 but didn't get here till 1:20. It took them from then till about 6:30 pm to fix the problem. It seems the wall thermostat malfunctioned. That caused a fuse somewhere in the outside unit to burn out. Apparently there is a diagnostic feature built into our system and that malfunctioned too. That malfunction is what contributed to the delay in determining the cause of the problem. What a mess for these guys. And when they left here they had another repair to go to, an emergency they said. Having these guys here and not knowing how long they would be here kept me from cooking my healthy planned meals. It also kept me from my important to do list. So now I have changed my plans and will take care of the Wednesday to do items on Thursday. I also had plans with Greg but those are now pushed into next week. The good news is that the AC is working well again.I won't know the cost of it all till the company emails me a bill.

I had a very good day today, hoping it makes up for yesterday's shortcomings. I enjoyed another piece of delicious salmon and green beans for supper (all zero pt foods). I think I could eat salmon every day and not get tired of eating it. I accomplished one of the two major chores I missed yesterday. I will tackle the 2nd chore on Friday as I expect to have more time and fewer interruptions.
0 -
Paula- What a crazy time of repairing the AC at your place. Glad they got it done.
I didn't post yesterday and can't remember what got me to stray from my routine.
We are finally getting some rain, it's not a lot, but any bit helps. Our lawn is so crunchy. We have well water that is high in minerals so I can't water the grass or plants with it. They don't seem to like it.
I plan to do my personal packing for the trip today and I would also like to run a few more errands. I don't think that I will spend much time at my desk today. That will be a welcomed change.0 -
Hello! I'm glad that you are both doing well and happy to hear that Buster doesn't have a medical concern! Paula, I'm glad that your AC is fixed! The heat has been so brutal this summer, except last weekend when it was comfortable for the dog shows. Shari, Congrats on the weight loss!
Everything went well over the weekend and folks seemed to enjoy the planned social gatherings that our club did. I came home exhausted but have been spending evenings working on updating our club's Constitution so that elections can be established and I can stop being acting President. Another member and I stepped into the President and Treasurer jobs to keep the club going with the understanding that the positions would be temporary…..it's been a year with no end in sight unless we make it happen through the Constitution and an election.
Yesterday was DH's birthday so we ate at a restaurant for supper. I hope to get back to healthier eating this weekend. A young colleague of mine has been wanting to go to the gym and I am able to bring a guest so we plan to go Sunday afternoon. This is a great way for me to get back there since I've had excuses for months.
Tomorrow brings a nail appointment and putting things away from last weekend. Sunday I am Liturgist at church and then going to the gym. Somewhere in there I should get groceries. I hope you both have a great weekend and Shari, I hope your trip preparations go smoothly!!

Exciting times for both of you, Shari with your upcoming trip and DW with all of your dog club responsibilities. I hope you are able to get a model constitution from another club to adapt for your club. It sure sounds like a lot of work!
John and I decided to order Thai today. I enjoyed the break from cooking. I just wish our Thai delivery options were less expensive. We are planning to get Thai again for my birthday later this month. I once again don't know where the day went. I slept a little late, tackled some minor chores, and later we had an early evening online church service. My eczema is worse than it ever has been. It seems like my RA issues have calmed down somewhat, but now the autoimmune disorder is viciously attacking my skin. It is very uncomfortable and painful. It looks terrible too. Hoping this eases soon.
0 -
Paula- I love Thai food. Yum! That would be my choice for a birthday dinner too. I hope you can find relief from the eczema. Not fun.
DW- You have had a full schedule lately. I hope you enjoy your time at the gym. It's one of my favourite things to do. Bringing a guest makes it that much more enjoyable.
This evening we are hosting a BBQ for youth that are going on the mission trip. The parents are coming too. They would like time to spend with each other as they will all be sending their kids away to Guatemala for 10 days. It is a big deal and I am thankful that they trust the leadership team and God with their kids. It will make a very positive impact on them.I can't believe we leave on Monday. I have been planning for months and it kind of seems surreal. I am so grateful to have been on the trip last year and have the confidence and familiarity with where we will be, what we will eat, and what we will do. I am so excited with some nervousness too.
0 -
Shari, You have a special gift to do the youth work you do. You are making a wonderful impact on your youth group as well as on those lives you touch in Guatemala. John and I will pray for safe travels and good works for you and your group.
I had enough Thai leftover from Friday to have for supper today. Even accounting for the high point red curry sauce, I think I managed to stay in my point range or just slightly over it. I had a grocery delivery today so am again stocked up with more salmon for a few days.
Remember the problem I had with the flooring in the kitchen over the past few years? Well it is starting to lift again so I called the flooring place that installed it. To my surprise, they are installing a totally new floor in the kitchen at no cost to me. The installer stopped by today with a sample. (I feel like we are old friends he has been here so many times over the past 3 years or so, for both installation and repairs.) The sample is very close to the floor I have now, only it is vinyl plank flooring and not the Coretec flooring I currently have.
