Fair food!!! Our county fair is the third week of August. I remember my son and I enjoying a blooming onion at the Kansas State Fair? Is the Kansas State fair in the vicinity of Hesston or was it the county fair? I remember the butter cow. My grandsons have pigs and ducks for 4H this year.
Debora, what an amazing community volunteer you are! I am so sorry to hear the pour surge caused you electronics grief. Yes, at least your computer isn't affected. We don't have a DVR, cable or streaming TV. We have a few live channels. We don't watch much TV. We love going out to the movie. We have a small, one screen, vintage movie theater and a drive-in 15 miles from home. We have date night when there is a movie we want to see.
Tammy, I didn't remember sending you the wheat until you mentioned it and have a vague memory. Fun that you still have some. Glad your hubby is feeling a bit better. I pray he gets a bit better every day until he is going for that long walk outside and enjoying the sunshine. It is no fun feeling horrible and it is no fun taking care of someone who is feeling horrible.
I am sorry you have to find a new doctor. It is so hard finding someone who is a good fit; who listens to you. Good luck on the hunt. Possibly the 28 mile trek to the doctor can include grocery shopping or a fun restaurant you don't get to visit often for lunch? Or a cute coffee shop.
I am enjoying being back on a doable eating plan. It makes packing lunches easier; I don't have to think. I have been eating Ezekiel wraps. I like the wraps better than the bread. I have never been a big fan of sandwiches. I will eat a sandwich when I get invited to a lunch and that is what is served.
The hubs is harvesting small brown lentils. Our son and the other two combines are harvesting canola. I thought we might get a rain delay, but the storm passed us by. A couple days ago, there were flood watch warnings for the storm that was supposed to happen yesterday. The forecast is now for Monday rain.
Okay, I had better get going. I am heading to Lewiston, 70 miles one way, to get groceries, Costco and take a friend who is losing her eyesight to an appointment. Then back up the hill to work this afternoon. I have been working from 3 - 10 pm and Sundays off. Saturdays I work at 10-ish to give the full-time clerk most of a day off. This schedule is much less brutal. I am not as exhausted.
Onward and upward! Love and hugs my friends.

Good Morning Ladies, Sorry I haven't posted sooner but I don't have much that has changed since I was on last. So I figured I better drop in. I'm Still monitoring my weight and logging my food, I've been eating pretty close to my calorie count so no weight loss. In fact since my doctor has changed my thyroid med's I have put on a couple of pounds so now I'm back up to 145. However, I'm trying to get back in the habit of exercising daily instead of every 3 to 4 days. My hubby is doing much much better now, instead of him having to take a half a pain pill he now is taking them every other day, plus moving around much more.
Sue, traveling 70 miles for food in a long way, hope you have plenty coolers for your cold items. I hope all went well for your friend at the doctors.
We have been having some pretty nice temp's here in Texas, we even been getting more rain this summer than in the past, we got an inch on yesterday, so I didn't water my garden, but I will give it a drink today. My yellow squash is no longer growing so I pulled them up and planted some carrots and beets so hopefully they'll come up. The Almanac said it was time to plant rooted vegetables.
Well got to go make breakfast.
Take care and God bless.

Hi Tammy, your county fair sounds more like our State Fair. Our fair is very much 4-H stuff. That was cool for you except for cleaning up after the horses. I guess someone has to do it.
Bummer on your thyroid being high. Glad he let you know ahead of time. 25-30 minutes is how far we drive for any doctor. Finding a doctor that works well with you can be a challenge too.
Our family pictures went very well. The guy had never done a family but I think he did a great job with what I saw on his computer afterwards. I'll see a lot more of them at our celebration Sunday. The rains have not been so much at a time but have gotten some rain in august which is very good for the crops. Lightning makes me a bit antsy right now. We got all replaced but are having some problems with the tivo so may be returning it. We also got new cell phones. Ralph saw a really good deal and we bought two but have only set his up. We have tracfones so do the set-up ourselves and it took me a couple days to get it all done. It's a bigger phone so won't fit into my pocket so trying to figure out how to carry it when I don't have my purse before I get it set up. Ralph wants to try out his McDonalds ap (it has not been working for awhile) so we are going out for supper. Tomorrow I'll try and do my Saturday straightening cause we're going for part of Saturday and this Saturday everyone comes to eat and do the August birthdays and then we have the reception for our anniversary - a full day.
Ralph is done choring so we'll take off soon so I'll get this sent. Debora

Debora, Sounds like you had a full day alright, Birthday party and Anniversary celebration. So how many years have you and Ralph been married? I'm sure you had a busy and fun day.
Not much going on here in Texas just some cooler temps and more cloudy days. I'm still waiting to see if my carrots & beets come up it's been 9 days. So I hope to see something soon, if not I'll have to figure another type of vegie to put in the ground.
Have a Blessed day.

Hello my friends. Harvest is down to the garbanzo beans, a slow trickle, so I am not needed at the office. Yippee. It feels good to be done. Our county fair starts tomorrow. I am excited to watch my grandsons show their animals. Thankfully harvest is over early so I can get to the fair. I am going to enter one of my sketches in the fair … because I can get to the fair this year. :)
I have been enjoying being on a decent eating plan of good for me whole foods. It is amazing how much less thought energy it takes when I have a plan in place. I have a goal to lose 30# before my trip to Greece in October. I am on track until I go off plan and get inflamed. Then the scale pops up a pound or two or three. I know it is self induced inflammation, but still. SIGH.
Tammy, it is Debora and Ralph's 50th wedding anniversary. I saw a really cute video post on FB of them setting up for their family photo. CONGRATULATIONS Debora! You are an inspiration on so many levels. I hope you and Ralph feel well celebrated.
Tammy, glad to hear your hubby is feeling much better. That takes a load of stress off. I am sorry to hear your med change has affected your weight. Our hormones are so finicky. I feel lucky my doc is willing to listen to to how I am feeling and doesn't adjust my thyroid based on my TSH. I have had so many doctors that don't listen to how I am feeling. UGH. The struggle is real.
Planting root veggies in the fall? Are your winters mild enough to harvest root veggies into the winter months?
I feel a nap coming on, but I am making a ravioli casserole for our dear friend's daughter and family. We buried her Dad a few weeks ago. I waited to take a casserole and visit until the dust settled. She told me Saturday she and her husband didn't get inundated with food and visits. :( My heart goes out to her and her four brothers. They are young! The oldest is around 36. Five kids and they have lost both of their parents to cancer. I will do what I can to be a surrogate Mom/Grandma, but it will always fall short.
Say a prayer or two for the kids. I better start thinking about that casserole ….

Hi, yes, 50 years and the celebration was last Sunday. The kids did a wonderful job. It was at our church. They had a table set up with pictures and my dress on a mannequin (I was very skinny back then and had long hair). Then they had a refreshment table - cupcakes - chocolate and white and drinks were water and lemonade. Several tables were set up for people to sit at and they used sunflowers and baby's breath to make the centerpieces. we sat on stools close to the doorway and got to greet everyone. I haven't gone through those that signed but by cupcakes used, I think about 200 came. So fun. We didn't help with cleanup but stayed till the end so I could lock up so we got home about 7. That's when we felt tired. we are still going through the cards. And very surprising to me, a very few added a gift card so we have some eating out ahead of us.
This week my project for tomorrow is taking care of the younger kids at our Missions Banquet. I've lined up the babysitters and will make name tags for the kids and pick up lunchables, applesauce and drink for them tomorrow. I still get to be in at the main bauquet and hear the program but are there when the kids check in and then leave. We are taking Ava (special needs granddaughter) with us so hopefully that goes okay. Saturday will be fun as have a local festival to go to. Our 4-H club is not doing a float this year so can just go when we want. Always something gong on.
Yesterday we got to pick up two of the grandsons from their first day of school. The pick up line went smoothly and they had a great first day. They were with us through supper. Their parents picked them up on the way home from taking their oldest to K-State for college. They also went through the had decision to placing another one in a group home setting. They have been doing therapy and meds for a couple of years and so they are praying this works. They love her so much but she doesn't feel it. They get to have no contact for the first thirty days which is hard. But they can touch base with the houseparents.
Tammy, cooler temps could help the seeds pop up. It would fun for them to do it. How's it going staying on the eating plan? I'll have a few good days and then we have dessert to finish up (yummy cupcakes this week) or a banquet to go to and I like to enjoy it all.
Sue, Glad things are slowing down for you. Even when you enjoy it, it's nice to end. Your county fair is almost a month after ours. Hope you have much cooler weather than we did. Let us know how your sketch does. What animals do your grandsons show? Do they show other projects.
30 lbs. Hope it works. I did that once but in a much longer time stretch (ha) with you know what.
Glad you got to see the video. That was that last thing we did with our photos. I have no idea of how many times I watched it. Many around here had never seen that done so I got lots of comments on it.
How do you make a ravioli casserole. That sounds good. Thank you for helping care for them. Every little bit helps.
We are still having hot weather. It's 87 right now but next week is supposed to bring 70s so that will be a nice change. Enjoy your eating everyone.

Oh Debora, your celebration sounds sublimely perfect! I absolutely loved the "gathering" video for the family picture. (I may have to steal that idea at our next family gathering) Fifty years is a big milestone and you are an inspiration. How many total in your immediate family? It was quite a group. And all the smiles!!! Your kids had a tough week with sending their oldest fledgling off to college and setting another up in a group home. Sweet and bitter. Their love will shine through the haze of uncertainty.
Fun that you got to pick the grands up from their first day of school. Today is the first day of school for my local grandsons. All four are in school this year. The older three showed market swine and got blue ribbons all around.
Our local hospital was doing a health screening at the fair. A dear friend was manning the booth, so I did the screening. My A1C was 5.1. Woo Hoo!
The weekend before the fair, I stubbed my toe and assumed I broke it. This past weekend, we were in Boise for a school shopping/water park trip before school starts; two weeks post injury. Walking between the parking lots, the discomfort was radiating up into the foot. At my daughter's urging I went to the Ortho Urgent Care. Yep, broken. Did I tell you, I am going to Greece mid-October? Anyway, the doc said nothing to do, just manage the swelling; I will be good to go for Greece. Aging is not for the faint of heart. On a positive note, he said my bones look good!
Tammy, how are your seedlings doing? I am considering planting some radishes, any thoughts on keeping the cats out of the soft soil? I have been thinking about picking up a screen from Habitat for Humanity.
I have been enjoying "Better Oats" for breakfast. A recommendation from the nutritionist I am working with. I am taking a break from the MFP food diary tracking, but I am jotting down what I am eating (and the time of day) on an Excel spreadsheet. No calorie counting or macros tracking. I am on track with my 30# w/l. Six weeks to go. My clothes are fitting better, but my Michelin Tire is tenacious.
Okay .. things to do. Have a beautiful day!

Good Morning Ladies, not much going on around here in Texas. We do have much cooler temps, but no rain from this system. Well lets see, I just had my blood work done and my thyroid levels have come back down to normal levels, my kidney function readings have improved.
Sue, my garden seeds never did come up so that was a bust. I'm thinking of trying another type of vegetable for fall, just not sure what to do since the hubby doesn't seem to like a whole lot of different veggies. As for how the hubby is doing, he has been released from his surgeon and he is trying to go without his band around the belly. So far he's doing okay without it but today he has it's on.
Debora, I'm glad you had a really good turnout for the anniversary celebration. It is sad to hear about one of the girls have to be placed in a foster home and no contact for 30 days with her must be really hard. I will say a pray for God's guidance and peace.
Sue, congratulations on a great A1C results and on the weight loss and a great NSV cloths fitting better. To keep cats out of a garden, I put up a 5ft. fence around my raised beds which is removable and my beds are 12" high and sit on the ground. I never had trouble with that but I also know that there are certain plants that will keep cats away.
Talk later, God Bless and Be Safe.

Hello, we have been having some fall weather. It's nice except hubby doesn't handle cold well so outside things aren't so fun for him. We've been to one soccer game, two nights of volleyball. Out grand playing is on the C team but they play first so watch it and then some of the varsity before we head home. We have one in cross country but she hasn't given us her schedule so…. We also did Grandparents Day on Friday for one. We start a new Sunday School class tomorrow. We only have 11 this year and we hope they are as ready to come as their parents say they are.
Sue, feel free to use the gathering video. Once you figure out who's coming in when, it doesn't take too long to do. We have 25 on earth and two in heaven.
Blue ribbons is good for swine. Our kids did swine and some of the grands did till Alan quit raising pigs.
Whoot on your a1c. Sorry on the broken too but glad it won't mess up your trip. And great on being on track for you weight loss and the clothes fitting better. Good on the discipline that takes.
Tammy, too bad we can't share some of our rain with you. We have been blessed in that area. Keeps the grass growing well. Glad to hear your thyroid levers have come back home and kidney function is better.
Glad to hear you hubby has been released and doing better.
The parents have had reports from the houseparents that Aven is settling in well. They'll have their first meeting to set goals in a couple of weeks. They miss her at home but have been enjoying some peace and time with the others that had been lacking.
We are having tacos for dinner tomorrow so I have ground been done and it will heat up in the crock pot while we are at church. Then it will be off and running for another week. Enjoy yours. Debora

There was another no nonsense killing today, this time it took the life of Charlie Kirk at 31 yrs. a christian father who left behind a wife and 2 very young children. He was in Utah doing a speech and after wards there was an Q&A on the college campus there in Utah. He believe in the american way, he always thought that young people deserved to have a voice and always tried to let them speak and ask questions about current events political and nonpolitical issues.
The shooter has not been found as of yet. Please pray for his family and ask God to help the authorities find the person who did this evil thing.
Also pray for the young women's family, this young women came from Ukraine and was out right murdered on a commuter train and no one did anything about it.
Pray that God will heal our land, heal our hearts towards one another and stop the evil in this land.
Thanks for listening. God Bless and be safe.

Hello Sue & Debora, I hope you two are doing well. I'm sure you both have been very busy, since you do have a lot going on.
I'm doing okay, I have been maintaining around 143 to 145. I've up'd my exercise some and doing at least 2 - 3 days of strength training. Since muscle tone burns more calories and fat.
Sue, congratulations on cloths fitting better and I hope you are still on track to lose those 30 pounds. How is it going for you Debora?
Well I better go. Talk Later and God Bless, be safe.

Tammy, I stopped in once and no one had been here and then I just kept putting it off.
The death of Charlie Kirk was very sad. The gospel message has been spread far and wide with all that has happened since it happened and now they have caught the one who did it. His wife seems so strong when she speaks but I'm sure when she is home with the kids, its is very hard.
Great that you've been keep your walk stable. Good on the strength training. I know that would be good to do. What kind of things do you do.
I can say I've been busy but some times the days just go by. We did go out and see my oldest sister this last Tuesday. My brother also came along with out youngest sister. So the five siblings left were all together for a few hours. We got there later than planned. It was raining hard to start with and we got on highway 96 and somehow anther car and we got our side mirrors too close and my sisters was knocked loose. Thankfully, that's all the damage but we stopped and talked to them. Then we had to decide if we wanted to drive 4 hours that way. We were close to my oldest so we got off at the next exit and called them and the said we could borrow one of their cars. So we went and switched cars and got a few questions answered took off. So of course, we got their later. And we saw Barb and then went to eat lunch and visit among us. Then we were with Barb for three hours (worked two 300 piece puzzles while we visited. And headed home. It is easier to drive in the dark without rain but still not my favorite thing to do. So Barb knows we may not come as often and if we do, we'd have to stay overnight somewhere.
Tonight we went to the local care home for a community hamburger and hot dog meal. That was fun.
Last Saturday my sister and I went to the local parade of homes. My son had 7 homes in it but we only saw two of his and then two other house. All very nice but way beyond our price range. But Derek does a nice job and has a very good reputation which is nice to here. I never asked him how many houses total he has built but we ask him how many he has gong, it's usually at least 20. I don't ask how he keeps track of what all the crews are doing.
My eating has some way over days and some okay days but the weight hangs in about the same 3-4 pounds - definitely helps to keep up the walking. And we started a new SS class which is going well. We haven't had all 11 there yet. We are doing Noah right now and one boy is named Noah so he is really enjoying it. This week our Wednesday nights start up and I'll be in the nursery. And I'm babysitting every other week for the women's Bible studies that meet on Tuesday mornings. And Good News Club starts in October so my weeks will be a bit fuller with planned activities.
No kids for dinner this Sunday as we are going to got to a church down the road for it's 150th celebration which includes a meal. But that's nice cause Saturday is a soccer game and Old People's Day which we want to go to. We just don't sit around home a lot.
I'll pop in again Tammy so keep chatting.

Hello Ladies, can you believe it, we are already in October, the year is almost over with. The one thing I noticed is that the older I get the faster time goes by.
My strength training is working out to a new video workout that I've found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ6XPcX-Dfw
I use 3 lbs. to 6 lbs. weights depending on the type of exercise that I would be doing.
I'm so glad to hear that no one got hurt other than the car, which really sucks but so glad that you were able to get a loaner from your oldest son, then continue on your way to see Barb.
Well I've got to go, talk later, God Bless

Well, I thought I had written here. I probably did and then maybe didn't post it.
And now October is half over. I agree that time flies past. The strength video looks like a good one. I watched a bit of it but I only watched.
The car was fixed within a week by my sister's son. Can't tell anything happened and she wouldn't let me help pay since I did extra driving that day. :)
October started up our Wednesday night where I am i the nursery. This year we have about 9 kids so we are much busier than we have been. We also started Good News Club. Had 12 kids the first week and 20 the second. It a pretty well behaved group which is nice. Women's Bible studies started up and I do nursery sometimes for it. And we did more high school volleyball (it's done more), high school soccer (done) but we still have some Saturday soccer and volleyball yet.
I haven't had kids over for three Sundays. One was cause I went to my 50th college - the committee did a good job of planning our time together. We also took 14 boxes of books to the place that sends them to Africa. Another was going to a 150th celebration at a church and the other was a potluck for the family of a missionary fried that passed away. But they are coming this week. I straightened up the house last week as we kept three of Derek's while they went to a wedding so that is helpful for this week. My sister and I have even found two days we think we can go visit Barb. Staying overnight takes more time but the days are too short to do it in one day now.
With all going on, I have done less decluttering. I have been working more on making jump ropes since I am trying to have enough for our family shoebox packing party. We never run out of things to day. Tonight is donkey basketball - our granddaughter hopes to ride a donkey and maybe even win the chance to kiss one. Should be entertaining at least.

Hello Ladies, Sorry I haven't written in quite sometime. It's not because I've been busy, it's just that I have had the blues and just been logging my food / exercise and that's it.
I really like the sound of donkey basketball that must have been so much fun to watch, did your granddaughter get to ride and win the chance to kiss a donkey? Donkey's are really love-able and do like hugs. At least I know mine did, he would even lean into you and wrap his neck as if he was giving you a hug back. I sure do miss him but he is in a better place with people who can take better care of him then I could.
You really do have a very active and busy life Debora. I enjoy hearing about your grand kids, and your activity with the church.
I wonder how Sue is doing and how she enjoyed her trip back in October?
Well got to go, God Bless and take care.
0 -
Good morning Tammy, sorry you've had the blues but good that you've kept up with logging your food and exercise.
The donkey basketball was very fun. The kissing part never materialized but she did get to ride a donkey and she was the donkey queen (female selling the most tickets). The donkeys were well trained. Molly figured out her donkey would only go one directions and worked with her. Some would barely move. But during the intermission, they gave rides to the younger kids and they all walked nicely back and forth, back and forth.
I wonder about Sue too - I supposed she's busy catching up from being gone.
Thanks for saying you enjoy hearing about my family church. Sometimes I think I go on too much but that's my life. We will be doing our shoebox packing this Saturday (sometimes finding a date is hard) and I almost have all the jump ropes bade. I tell myself I'm not going to procrastinate next year. Time will tell. We usually do it on a Sunday but there's a Youth Group party and the kids don't want to miss it. But I will feed them Saturday (pizza) and not Sunday.
We had our County Achievement Celebration last Saturday. They had a brunch (cinnamon rolls, etc) with it. Two of our club attended besides us. Then this past Monday was our club one. We have pizza and then a program. I put together goodie bags or each of the kid and highlight what they did during the year. It's a fun evening.
One family said they will not be at the December meeting as they are spending the month in Hawaii with Mennonite Disaster Service helping to build houses where the wildfires destroyed so much. That will be quite the experience.
We are inbetween sports right now. Basketball will start soon but only one grand is playing so won't be quite as busy. The fall music concerts will be happening. They are always good too. So we won't just be sitting at home.
My sister and I did make it out to visit our oldest sister. Her step-great-granddaughter let us stay with them and we drove both way with no rain - so nice. Barb was in good spirits the whole time. We're not sure when we'll go back next. Weather and being busy - hope she understands. We always think we see a lot of semis so for fun, we kept track on the way home. We counted 158 of them in a 4 hours time. We want to count again sometime and see if that's normal. Sure seems like a lot.
Ralph and I have started another research study (make a little extra money). This is a flu vaccine booster. Not hard to do. We had our second appointment today. Then we went to the thrift store and home. Plenty of leftover hamburger patties from Sunday to eat.
Next project is to get the house ready for Thanksgiving. Take care.
