Preservatives after Gastric Bypass
I am nearly 7 months post op and I have realized that food that has preservatives in it seem to bother me a lot more. If I go out to eat, foods that are highly processed or have a lot of sauces on them don't sit well either. Anyone else have these issues?

I knew that losing weight was not going to happen overnight and it would take lots of hard work and yet....since I was banded almost 4 months ago, I have only lost 15lbs. I do…

Hello all, My name is Courtney. Here's a little about me. I've had the Lap-Band, and lost around 60 lbs. Then it broke, and I regained almost all of that weight. I had two surgeries to fix it, but it never worked right afterwards. I also had extremely bad GERD, and was told it was what I was eating. I went to another…

What were you told about NSAIDS?
When I had my surgery in 2007, I was told no aspirin or motri, aleve etc. I've read about some people with a bypass taking these without problems. What is your experience? Just curious as I have a knee that keeps acting up. Thanks, Debbie :-)

Post-Op Guidelines As Given By Western Bariatric Institute
I know many of you are interested/concerned about the foods I am putting in my pouch, so I thought this would help answer any questions. Attached is a link to the post-op booklet I was given by my Bariatic Institute. I am one month gastric bypass post-op, I have been instructed to stay under 900 calories a day. I began 5'7…

Having issues eating basic foods
A little background: I've been a band patient since 2009. We found out in 2010 that the band had a leak, and I was going every two months to get filled (at $100 a pop). 2011, I started producing a lot of slime (aka, drainage to those not banded) while eating, which we found out were caused by my enlarged tonsils and always…

Looking for friends that have recently had GBS.
Am scheduled for surgery Feb 21, 2013, if all goes well and all the lab work is good. Looking for advice or ideas for pe and post surgery. I have been eating really well. my food diary is public. i would love for people to look at it. only losing 1lb a week. i know my sodium was really high for a couple of weeks b/c I messed up a recipe & used tablespoons instead of teaspoons. I have cut that down. my question: dr says I need to cut out the cuties or eat them…

"mental health"
has anyone's mental health been affected post-surgery, i.e. depression, bi-polar-like episodes of highs and lows, etc.? I find I have terrible, life-halting mood swings. I don't get angry, but I get so depressed because of all the complications I've had and the bull**** I keep going through.... it's ruining my life. also,…

ok...so..pouch is obviously not broken....
Went to dinner with hubby last night for a badly needed date night. Went to a movie and to Red Lobster. I was able to eat...a lot more than I thought I should be able to. Had a bit of salad, part of a biscuit (couldnt resist) a few crab legs, a small lobster tail, and a few shrimps in scampi sauce. Very yummy but I was…

I'm hoping to...
Tomorrow is my six week post-op appointment with the surgeon. I am hoping that they will tell me that I can do more than walk for exercise (I'd really like to start my yoga again and do the elliptical). I am also really wanting to begin weight training again since I am in a wedding in 8 months and I want my arms and back…

At what point should I get worried?
I'm 3 weeks post-op from VSG. For the past two days I have been extremely nauseated to the point where even a sip of water brings on a bout of dry heaves. I'm supposed to be on soft foods but decided to go back to liquids to see if that would help (like my pouch was irritated from something I ate) but it has not. So at…

Pre-op diet and diabetes
So I'm diabetic and was wondering if anyone else was reluctant about the "slim-fast" pre-op diet. My instinct is to try for the higher protein lower carb option versions but then again I wonder if it's just pre surgery jitters making me overly cautious.

hunger schedule
So I am fully aware that I will eat fewer calories in a day if I wait until I'm hungry to eat anything (often 2 or 3pm in the afternoon) but as soon as I eat anything (it could be three almonds or a full breakfast) I will start getting hungry 2 hrs later and continue to get hungry again every 2 hrs on average until I…

Carbs or Sugar?
Which do you focus on more? I'm terrified of anything with carbs but have been told I have to have 'healthy' carbs. So I am trying to incorporate more carbs (from beans and healthy breads...) into my day. But then I see the carbs climb way up and start to freak. I have PCOS too so I really do have to put focus on…
