  • One slice of crisp bacon is only 37 calories. Go for it!
  • Some really good thoughts here. Thanks all. I like the idea of keeping logging my back pocket in case it becomes necessary. I agree that MFP makes it as painless as possible, though still a chore. I'm trying to turn myself into the sort of person who looks at a cupcake and wonders how anyone could eat that (instead of my…
  • Maybe not you, but I had a swollen hand problem I reported here a few days ago. I'm pretty sure now that it had to do with making my fitness band too tight. I've loosened it up (and switched hands) and the problem is gone. Good luck.
  • Thanks, I've been wearing the band continuously since October so probably not an allergic reaction to it. Maybe to something else though. After a night's sleep the swelling is mostly down. Still tender though.
  • These are the riding tips I sent my daughter after I gave her my old Vespa scooter. I think most of them are applicable. Pay attention Assume you're invisible - SMIDSY! Always check over your shoulder before changing lanes Ignore car's turn signals -- check which way their tires are pointing Don't get distracted by bumper…
  • Pretty amazing that food and meds are federally inspected and regulated but anyone can manufacture and sell "health" supplements without any review.
  • I got them originally at Amazon, but when I signed up for their newsletter I'd get occasional 10-20% discount codes. Free shipping after $35. Oh and they're on some sort of campaign about Keurig trying to lock out other coffee vendors. They're giving a free clip to disable the lock-out mechanism on newer Keurig models.
  • It's a bit hard on the battery, but turning on GPS gives interesting readings. Also, that's necessary at first just to calibrate your pace.
  • I like the San Francisco Bay k-cups since they're mostly bio-degradable unlike the standard k-cups. Coffee is good, prices are good. https://www.gourmet-coffee.com/single-serve.html I usually go with the French Roast or Rainforest blend. If you look around you can often find discount coupons.
  • I like I Heart Radio -- it's free.
  • I think the problem is that the gym's business model depends on people continuing to pay long after they've given up on regular workouts. If everyone showed up regularly the gym would be unusable.
  • One egg, two slices of crisp bacon, some salsa, and black coffee.
  • Sorry about your injury -- sucks to be in pain. I'm not suggesting you sign up for any marathons, but the sooner you get even a little bit active, the better you'll feel. Good luck!
  • Interesting stuff there, thanks. Interesting to note that I'm a Clydesdale!
  • Manitou Springs, but read the part again about my age and weight. Something called the "triple bypass" is probably not gonna happen! Thanks anyway.
  • Thanks again! I live in Colorado and am 69 yo and weigh 265 so I'm not looking to race or do extended trips, just want to get around town and get a bit of exercise in the process. From all the comments, I've pretty much settled on a hybrid from a local shop, details probably based on what's available and moderately priced.…
  • Exactly!! Buy it fresh roasted and grind it yourself just before brewing. I love the coffee in my Chemex but it's just too much hassle. I've gone back to a regular old drip coffee maker except for special times. In a hurry, K-cups are convenient and make a decent cup but I hate using the non-recyclable containers. I've…
  • Thanks all. There's a decent (I think) bike store nearby and I'll go visit them once the snow melts and maybe the temps get above 50.
  • Thanks all. This is such a helpful (and attractive) group of people! Lots of good info here! I love to ride my maxi-scooter around town when the weather allows, but I notice all the cyclists who are getting a workout in the process. So I'm encouraged to learn I'm not the only big guy getting out there on pedal power.
  • I sit with a Buddhist meditation group several times a week. Works for me better than sitting by myself.
  • Tried it, but didn't like not being able to select what I wanted and having to go through all their items to select out the ones I didn't want. Snacks were mostly okay, but probably not what I would have selected on my own.
  • I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggone it, people like me. -- Senator Stuart Smalley
  • Fake it 'til you make it!
  • I don't mean to sound snide but why do you need a DVD to help you go for a walk?
  • Try putting it in your pocket.
  • You're beautiful!
  • I've been doing 1/2 each of cardio and weights, usually cardio first to get warmed up. Lately though I've started taking a touchpad to the gym and watching Amazon or Netflix videos which makes it easier for me to do more cardio work. So I'll watch one show while doing cardio, do maybe 15-20 minutes of weight work, then…
  • Chopped salads at Subway are pretty good. I prefer the seafood topping, but they'll do any sandwich as a salad. Just go light on the dressing.
  • I'm gonna forget how much I indulged yesterday and just focus on getting back on track today.
