Anorexics actually eat nothing. Maybe they don't eat at all, maybe they throw up what they eat, maybe they eat and then spit out what they are chewing. Those anorexics actually begin to have the same metabolism as a child starving. That's how they end up looking the way they do. But for the rest of us who eat very low…

By the way, I am a nurse who worked on the eating disorder unit of a major regional medical center.

I don't get where some people on here say that starvation mode is a myth. Why don't you do a little actual scientific research instead of what you read in some weight lifting magazine!

If you've had weight loss surgery then your daily caloric goal is reasonable and a 4 pound a week loss is reasonable. If not I fear that at that rate you will be setting yourself up for failure thus reverting to overeating and creating a yo-yo circle. But only you truly know what is right for you. I agree with another…

I make a salad with avocado, mango, and red onion with a lime vinaigrette. Also I like to cut them in half, scoop of little out to make room, then crack an egg into it. Bake in a 425 degree for 15 to 20 minutes. Top with a little fresh salsa. It's one of my favorite breakfasts. We had tacos for dinner last night and since…

Yes, technically you could get your daily caloric allowance in ice cream, candy, and Doritos and if you are at a deficit you will lose weight. But will you be healthy. I doubt it. But yes, it's actually a very simple formula. Weight loss equals less calories going in than calories being burned. I'd just rather be healthy…

If you know what size she is you could join Kate Hudson's Fabuletics Online Shopping site and get her two piece workout set for $25.00.

FullBeauty.com just started a new line of active wear. Haven't tried it yet but the clothes, bras, etc. are every bit as cute as Kate Hudson's line.

I have a Fitbit Flex and I love it. Of course mine was free so that added to its charm. My health insurance offered a free Fitbit if you filled out a personal health questionnaire and created a healthy lifestyle plan. My Flex syncs with the insurance health check in on WebMD. Then periodically if you set and achieve…

I strength train through gardening. Pulling weeds, digging, hoeing, planting etc. all work my muscles. There is a lot of squatting in gardening. I am getting ready to start a complete renovation of my yard and turn it into an urban farm. But I have decided that instead of using a tiller I am going to manually dig the beds…

This is a twist on a sub and one of my favorite "sandwiches."

I like to make parmesan cheese crisps. I take tablespoons of finely shredded parmesan cheese, place on a cookie sheet about an inch and half apart, and bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. They crisp up beautifully. Sometimes I add a little finely chopped turkey pepperoni to the cheese before I bake and then I dip them in…

Weight Watcher cheese sticks only have 50 calories. That's the one I usually get. I did learn how to make my own mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese. They are so much better than most store bought brands. Parmesan and blue cheese are my all time favorites though. I like to mix blue cheese with FF plain Greek yogurt along…

I hear ya! I will keep using the free version but if it gets neglected because of the fee for service version I will just start using my Fitbit completely. It has all of the same features and it's free. There is a premium version but I'm happy with what the free offers. Does MFP offer a trial period? Of course it's been my…

We're having homemade tomato basil bisque soup with grilled cheese using homemade healthified pimiento cheese, baby spinach, thinly sliced honey crisp apples on pumperknickle done Panini style (Love my George Foreman grill!). Fresh fruit salad with a drizzle of dark chocolate and a squirt of fresh whipped cream (Love my…

Ed Blonz, Ph.D., a nutrition scientist and an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Francisco does a nutrition Q&A Column online has said that he totally disagrees that blending fruits and veggies destroys the fiber and nutrients but it does break the fiber into smaller particles. It's still the…

Here are my two favorites! 1. Dark urine is not a sign of dehydration, it's a sign that your kidneys are working to reabsorb the water your body needs! Huh? So why is it when a doctor thinks you are dehydrated one of the first things checked is the color of your urine. :* 2. Blending fruits and veggies into a smoothie…

Are you adequately hydrating? If not, fiber will certainly plug you up. I have an app on my phone called Water My Body. When you input your weight, activity level, and if you are trying lose, gain, or maintain, it will calculate how much water you need to drink per day. It also has an alarm to remind to drink.

I like to do a quick vinaigrette. 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon olive oil, a dash of Dijon mustard, a squeeze of lemon, lime, or orange juice, and a little salt/pepper to taste. I put it all in a small lidded jar, shake like crazy and drizzle over fresh greens.

Wow! I actually finished this challenge except for the four way hip extensions because I don't own that type of equipment. I did another set of three with 15 reps this morning and just now did another set of three with 15 reps each. Can really feel it in my butt!

Ed Blonz, Ph.D. who is a nutrition scientist and an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Francisco gave this answer to the question of fiber being destroyed by blending into a smoothie..."I don’t buy the argument that blending negates the benefits of the fiber in fruits (or vegetables or…

That looks delicious! I'm going to give it a try.

Isopure National Unflavored Whey protein is supposed to be easier to digest. That's what I use. I make my own smoothies by adding the powder to almond milk, Greek yogurt, berries, and mixed greens. I blend it in my Magic Bullet.

Welcome aboard!

Is there an alternative to the Four-Way Hip Extensions? I work out at home and do not have that piece of equipment. I did my first set of three of everything but the hip extensions. Didn't use weights as I am just starting to strength train. Also used my wii as the step which was not as tall as the recommended one due to…
