  • I started with a Sunny spin bike (ordered from Amazon) and Cardiocast and liked that setup alot. Then I moved to the on-demand Peloton app with my Sunny spin bike and liked that even more. I finally invested in a Peloton bike and love love love it. But I would not have paid so much for the Peloton without knowing how much…

  • So why is losing weight so hard? I bet I'm like many people on this board - successful in many other areas of my life (career, family). I've overcome health issues (not related to being overweight), money troubles....yet the one area of my life that continues to be a struggle is my weight. Am I too complacent, give up too…
  • Actually, I thought the article was interesting....certainly the physiological response is that CI < CO = Weight loss, but *losing weight* really is much more than just the physiological response. There is a whole psychological/emotional/sociological component to losing weight and that is what isn't addressed by the…
  • This.... Especially in the beginning, you will find that you eat alot of stuff that doesn't have detailed calorie information (if you are anything like me). As you keep up with the calorie counting and figure out which foods have what nutrition profiles, you will keep refining your choices and probably gravitate to choices…
  • FYI - I haven't done keto but I have done various other forms of low carb. I find that my body needs carbs. I get a burst of energy in the beginning, but the longer I stay on low carb, the worse I feel. If you add back some calories, and still don't feel better, try adding back some carbs. I'm now just doing cico, and…
  • middlehaitch "It is nice when you can have the option of working out within your optimal time frame. Unfortunately, for many, other commitments sometimes have to take priority." So true! My attempts at morning workouts were necessary because I had kids and worked outside of the home. Now that the kids are grown and gone,…
  • I am one of those people that don't do well on a really low carb diet. Even after several weeks, I still feel tired and "foggy-headed". I do much better when I include at least a small amount of carb during the day. Pay attention to your body and add a small amount of carb if you need to.
  • I don't weigh most things and often estimate my fruits and veggies (medium apple, medium banana, etc). But I'm early in my weight loss and losing 1 -2 lbs per week. I know that as I get closer to goal, I may have to tighten up my tracking. Right now I'm focused on tracking everything I eat and getting into that habit, plus…
  • My Fitbit app has a section where it tracks how many steps each hour between 9 am and 7 pm. The goal is at least 250 steps in each hour. If I don't pay attention, I might get 4 or 5 hours with more than 250 steps, but I try to hit at least 9 to 11 hours with 250 steps or more. It really depends on my schedule. BTW - on the…
  • Veggies I keep for about a week. Cooked meat is usually 5 days or so. I admit that I don't keep close track, but I pretty much clean out my fridge every weekend before I head to the grocery store.
  • Personal trainers have different styles, and if you decide to go with one long term, you have to find one that has a personality that fits yours. I have worked out with a few different ones at my gym and some are more "Marine Sergeant" and some are much more mellow and encouraging. It depends on what you are looking for.…
  • Also, take a look at the fruits and veggies that you eat and pick the high fiber ones. For example, I eat a 1/2 cup of fruit every day at lunch. A 1/2 cup of grapes is 0 fiber (of course there is some fiber, just not enough to register on MFP) but a 1/2 cup of strawberries is 2 gm fiber and a medium apple is 3 gm fiber.…
  • I have also used "New Rules of Lifting for Women". Lots of good advice and a good program to start with.
  • Alot of commercial gyms will give you an introductory "tour/lesson" that is free. They will show you how to use the equipment and may even set up a basic strength program. You could see if this gym will do something like that. Even if they don't, if they have any staff on-site, they are usually happy to answer questions.…
