When I was younger if I wanted to lose weight I lost quickly usually on a fad diet. I'm 57 and weight loss has been slow due to not being able to exercise until recently because of knee problems. I still was able to lose 60 pounds just counting calories with very little exercise.

However I have a pattern where I'll go 2-3 weeks with no loss then have a week where I lose 3-4 pounds followed by weeks where I lose 1-1.5 pounds. That's great. Losing weight helped me get off of some of my high blood pressure meds and reduce the dose of others. I hope to eventually get off all my blood pressure meds.

I eat whatever I want as long as it fits into my daily calories. If I want ice cream or a candy bar I have it as long it fits into my calories for the day. I've read that weight loss starts in the kitchen. I lost 60 pounds counting calories with almost no exercise. I'm not unusual in that many here have lost weight without any exercise.
