  • YES! I keep 3 laying hens, and they LOVE leftovers. I give them everything/anything except chicken, (meat or broth) somehow feeding chickens chicken meat is just wrong! They love warmed up leftover soup or stew in the winter.

  • leftovers that I don't use go to my chickens. They LOVE leftovers!
  • ^^^^ this, only my baby just turned 27, LOL. Years ago, when said baby "E" was about 4 or 5, I was lamenting on the phone to my Mom about being 'out of shape'. 'But Mommy, round IS a shape!' says E. Such a HELPFUL child! Over the years, I have attempted several times to lose weight, with zero success. Until this year, I…
  • are you drinking enough water? drinking the recommended amount of water (8 x eight ounces) per day really does help with weight loss (and constipation)
  • I have a rule of thumb that I use when grocery shopping; if I can't pronounce the words in the list of ingredients, I don't buy the product. I try to stick to food that's as close to it's 'real' or 'raw' state as possible. Shop the 'outside' aisles of the grocery store. That's where stores usually stock the least processed…
  • Like doing anything in life that's worthwhile, it can be hard sometimes. You will have good days, better days, 'the BEST days EVAR!', and even a crappy day or two, just to keep things mixed up. I found there's a giant learning curve to this weight loss stuff, and it can be overwhelming. I've used MFP to plan my meals in…
  • I've decided that when I get within 10 lbs of my goal weight, I will take horseback riding lessons again.
  • Here's what I have told , or would tell any one of my loved ones dealing with situations similar: I think there a couple of things going on here: Some of it is within your control, some of it is not. Your workplace is infected with bullies. Is there something you can do about this? Take the missent email up the corporate…
  • ^^ this. that and a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon or lime usually is enough for me
  • slow and steady for the win and one day at a time!
  • today's breakfast was one cup of multigrain 'O' cereal, 2% milk, blueberries and strawberries, and a coffee with milk! under 250 cals.
  • check your diet for excess sodium, and are you drinking enough water (the recommended 8 -8 oz glasses) Those two things are what I check for first if I'm up a bit on the scale, especially if the weather is hot/humid.
  • I amuse myself by jotting down the numbers on my calendar. As the days go by, I've found that the numbers 'forcasted' by MFP are within a couple of pounds of what my scales are showing. (my goal is to lose 1 - 1.5 lbs/week) Purely for amusement, not guaranteed results. I've found it a useful tool, keeps me motivated.
  • I'm 57, (when did THAT happen?) 5'1", with 58 lbs to lose. 1200 Calories per day, diary open to friends Currently in week 13 on this journey and losing steadily, slowly, but steadily. Giving up is NOT an option! Add me as a friend!
  • I like to choose cereals that are about 110 calories per serving. Those ones are usually low in sugar, extra BONUS for me. Sugar is my hungry trigger. I rotate my breakfast menus thru cereal/fruit, greek yogurts, toast, eggs, cheese and veggies A quick (and satisfying) veggie and egg omlette does not take much time to…
  • when asked a question that my (adult) son does not wish to answer, he'll respond 'nun-ya' If pressed, he'll complete the answer, 'Nun-ya business!' with a grin! Perfect response, I believe.
  • I keep a container of diced onions, celery and peppers in the fridge. A cup of this mix is about 50 calories. The veggie mix is handy and versatile. Stir fried with an egg or two can be any meal. Add a half cup of canned mixed beans and a bit of greek dressing to a couple of cups of the mix and it's large bean salad for…
  • ^^^ works for me too! My breakfasts usually log in as 300 - 325 calories, and are higher in protein and low in sugar. Oh, bananas, why you have so much sugar? berries, you are my new best friends.........
  • That is the truth! When I first started logging, I ate first, then logged. WOW! what an eye opener. LOL, now I plan my meal, log it, then eat.
  • You know the truth about your progress towards being fit and healthy. When she makes comments or does the weird face, call her out on it. There's a great deal of truth in the old saying about you teach people how to treat you. Decide what you will put up with, and what you won't, and stick to it. Just because she's your…
  • this^ until I started weighing and measuring my portions I was overeating and was not losing weight. Especially those calorie dense foods, pasta, rice, potatoes. I don't exercise every day, but when I do, only eat back a small portion of calories burned. Don't give up. Slow and steady will get you there.
  • I don't know the 'real' answer to that, but when I have those hungry days, I tell myself it's my body's way of letting me know that counting calories is working! It's trying to shortcut; to get me to pop a little (or not so little) snack so it doesn't have to search for a few dozen fat cells to burn up, lol, Sometimes I'm…
  • I keep a container of diced celery, onion, red, green orange and yellow pepper in the fridge. each batch yields about 14 cups of mix. That's a lot of good eating, and the mix lasts well in the fridge for the whole week. One cup of this mix is equal to 50-ish calories, and can be used for any meal, raw or cooked. Add an egg…
  • Are you drinking enough water thru the day and getting enough protein and fats? Sometimes when I think I'm hungry, I'm just thirsty. A very large glass of water, hot or cold, (can add a squirt of lemon or lime juice) wait a while, then reassess. I keep low calorie snacks on hand. I like plain almonds (or other raw nuts)…
  • I know now: that I can eat 1200 calories per day without feeling deprived or hungry if I stay away from sugar early in the day my kitchen scale and the glycemic index are among my best friends my pre-made mix of diced onion, celery, and red, green, yellow and orange peppers is delicious, very handy and versatile:…
  • why do you think you need to feel full before you stop eating the meal?
