Keep most of your runs at a slower pace as your body adjusts to the new demands you're placing on it. You will get faster with time but patience is key. If you rush things, and do too much too fast, you could end up with an injury (which is what happened to me when I started running 3 years ago).

The winters are long, cold, and dark where I live. I had trouble summoning the motivation to go outside or drive to a gym. Bought a SOLE brand treadmill in 2016 and it was the best money ever spent!! Maybe not feasible if you're limited for space, but the one I have folds up when not in use.

I turn 47 on May 3rd, too! Happy early birthday to you - keep at it! Being young has its advantages, but there is something to be said for life experience and how it can help motivate us to make lasting changes.

I have a Sole F80 and have been very happy with it. I purchased it in 2016 and we use it for at least an hour every day ( I run on it and my husband walks). It folds up if space is a concern.

How inspiring!! Congratulations! I can relate to your point about slipping into a depression after sudden loss and letting your good habits go. I did the same. Glad you turned it around and are enjoying renewed health! Happy new year!

Buy whole roaster chickens on sale. One chicken will serve you 3 times over. You can eat dinner, use leftover shredded meat for another meal, and then freeze the bones to make homemade chicken stock for soup - just add water, celery, carrots, onions, garlic, salt & pepper, bay leaf and some white cooking wine...so easy,…

A couple of over-easy eggs and a slice of Ezekiel toast keeps me satisfied for several hours. Only takes 5 minutes to make.

Sad to say, but keeping an image of an unhealthy close relative in my mind that I don't want to end up resembling keeps me motivated! I also like to reward myself with new workout clothes occasionally. Keeping track of my physical activity each day and tracking my progeess/setting new goals also keeps me going.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You're still feeling emotionally raw and that's completely understandable. Try to be gentle with yourself...do what you can and banish the guilt. I know it's hard to press on when all you want to do is stop. Grief is unpredictable and so exhausting - be kind to yourself. In the meantime, maybe…

I recently returned from an 8 day vacation. Ate what I wanted but I logged it all (and I ate a lot of crap...ice cream, french fries, fried seafood.) I went over calories each day but I also did plenty of walking. As soon as I got home, went back to healthly eating and my regular running routine. My weight has held steady.
