  • I have MVR, a leaky pulmonary valve, and pulmonary issues (hopefully to be diagnosed after tests on Th). I had open heart surgery and had my mitral valve replaced 9 years ago. I will have another surgery in the next few years. It is hard when you have low energy and can't exercise much. After my pulmonary issues are…
  • We had cupcakes yesterday. I tried one (and had already logged it). It wasn't out of this world delicious so I threw the rest of it away. Unless it is, in fact, out of this world delicious, it just isn't worth it.
  • I got married at 37. I am 5'9" and weighed about 250 at that time. When I look at my wedding and engagement pictures, all I see is the love between me and my husband and how happy we were (and still are). I see my dream coming true. I see God's faithfulness in my life. Concentrate on the love, not on yourself.
  • There are no tricks to any of this. It takes hard work, planning, and commitment. It's a lifestyle change.
  • My husband proposed on a cold night in January with the sky full of stars. Beautiful but brrrr! I don't tie looking my best with my weight. I think it's important to look my best at every weight I've been. True, I look better at a lower weight but I took care of myself and did my best before losing weight too. Even at my…
  • I feel your pain. My hubby and I are both losing weight. He has lost almost 35. I've lost 28. Everyone I know is telling me how great he looks. Very few people have noticed my weight loss.
  • My husband and I do a cheat night every week, the night after we weigh. I log all day and sometimes even log that meal as well. I love to bake so I make a very small batch of something. We eat out, and I might have a margarita or something. I'm finding that I just don't want the portion that I was eating before I started…
  • 7.5 oz of raw apple with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter.
  • Alcohol lowers your inhibitions too--those nachos that you might say no to when you are sober may suddenly seem like a good idea after a few drinks. Also, don't cut calories too much during through day in the name of saving for drinking. Going into the night hungry and replacing food with alcohol is a not a good idea.
  • I have several and they are things that other people love... 1. Eggs (scrambled, fried, poached, etc.) NO. Eggs in baked goods? Yes. 2. Mustard. Icky in any form. 3. Artificial sweetener. It tastes metallic to me. Yucky. 4. Anything with cooked banana (banana bread, muffins, etc.) Ruins a perfectly yummy raw banana.
  • I've had open heart surgery to replace my mitral valve (not due to diet pills, just a defect). No amount of weight loss is worth what I've been through.
  • "In one recent survey, only 12% of adults were able to accurately estimate the number of daily calories they need for their age, height, weight, and physical activity level." This is reason #1 to weigh your food and log it!
  • I have valvular heart disease. I had open heart surgery to replace my valve at age 36. It is a structural defect. It isn't caused by high cholesterol, being overweight, etc. Being overweight can make the strain on your heart more pronounced so I'm losing weight. Unfortunately, all the diets in the world won't correct the…
  • Here's a buzz kill for you... the CDC defines "moderate drinking" as no more than 1 drink per day (5 oz wine or a 12 oz beer). Measure or weigh 5 oz of wine, log it, and enjoy. 5 oz isn't much.
  • Thank you! This grammar mistake drives me nuts. Sine I have the grammar mic for the moment, using an apostrophe with a plural is incorrect. It's not "apple's". It's "apples".
  • True gluten intolerance/celiac disease affects a small percentage of people. There are a lot of people hopping on the gluten free bandwagon. It was the latest/greatest diet tip last year. It will be something else next.
  • I employ a strategy of being really picky. I got my child candy for Easter that I don't like or aren't my favorite--butterfinger, kit-kat, etc. No peanut butter cups, because temptation. I do the same at Halloween. I like very dark chocolate and I have a little bit every day. A little goes a long way. With that to look…
  • I do a cheat night once a week. My family goes out to eat and then I bake a small batch of cookies or brownies for us to enjoy that evening only. My 4 year old is my sous chef! I've been wanting to make a beautiful cake that I saw in a magazine. I'll wait and make it for Easter and let everyone in my extended…
  • Break the association that fun must include alcohol. You can still enjoy a drink. Own the calories and log them. Don't have so many that you aren't keeping track.
  • OP, I totally get what you're saying. It's not always about weight gain or loss, it's about nutrition. My MIL is 77 and eats terribly. She survives on a little soup here or there, coffee drinks, protein shakes, sweets, and salty snacks like chips and crackers. She's been in the hospital before after fainting. She's had…
  • I have to admit that I'm a bit of a food snob about some things. I like to think of it as selective use of calories. Here's my list: 1. Mustard in any form. 2. Eggs--scrambled, fried, poaches, boiled, or deviled (see above). Quiche and breakfast casseroles are the exceptions. 3. Radishes. 4. Cucumbers. Dill pickles are…
  • Aldi Fit and Active Multigrain--90 calories, 5 grams of dietary fiber, 6 grams of protein in 2 slices. Very soft too.
  • Artificial sweetener tastes metallic to me--awful! I can taste even small amounts and it ruins the food for me. Anyone else?
  • I pop my popcorn in coconut oil. I don't feel that it needs butter, as the coconut oil gives it a mild buttery flavor. I'd also second adding parmesan cheese. It has a strong enough flavor that a little goes a long way.
  • Fast food has a lot of sodium. That could give you water weight gain. Is this a sustainable long term strategy? I keep preaching to myself that it's not about scale numbers, it's about changing my relationship with food.
  • One more thing. I think we all have to work on a sustainable strategy for the long term. It's not about numbers...it's about health and changing your relationship with food.
  • I wonder at the financial condition of the 600 pound life folks. I think that a lot of them are neck deep in debt. Their eating is out of control and I wouldn't be surprised if their financial life was, too. Credit cards could be financing the binges.
  • It doesn't sound like you're an alcoholic. One way to test yourself is to go to a social function and not drink. You should be able to have a good time without the alcohol. If you find that you can't, that may warrant you looking into it further. As you go down the weight loss journey, you'll have to decide for yourself…
  • Weigh absolutely everything.
  • Plan your calories and enjoy a glass of wine or a beer. You don't have to have more than that to have fun,do you?
