I received one for free from my insurance company as an incentive to lose weight. I wore it one day and didn't like it. I don't need an ugly plastic bracelet to tell me to eat less and move more. That's great if it helps with some peoples' motivation, but it didn't work for me.

I like to copy the salads from restaurants - Panera, Red Rosa, etc. Usually I can find the menus or salad description online, and I tweak the amounts to fit in my calorie goals.

You didn't specifically say, but does "Girl's Night" involve large amounts of food and alcohol? Can you just go out and have reasonable portion sizes of both?

You could just add another vegetable to the meal on nights when you have mashed potatoes, bread, etc. you could eat a larger helping of veggies and the kids could have a little of both. Then they wouldn't have so many drastic changes all at once.

If you like them, eat them. Do what works for you. I don't eat them because they don't fill me up. Sometimes I'll take a package of Steamfresh vegetables to work though with a can of chicken or tuna. Similar price and seems to work a little better.

I would suggest getting a referral to a mental health professional. Treat the depression first and then maybe the other things will start to fall into place.

How is it any more? You're still buying enough food for two people, right? If anything, your decreased portion sizes should help your budget.

My husband is lactose intolerant but refuses to adjust his eating habits. He buys Lactaid tablets in bulk from Sam's Club. There is a lactose free Breyer's ice cream that tastes like the real thing. That's his only concession.

I would like to run marathons in all 50 states and maybe Europe. My rewards are tied to that - hotel, airfare, maybe a little clothes shopping in stores not available in my town, etc. Some people do cruises, clothes, mani/ pedis, books, music, charm bracelets with a charm for every 10 lbs, etc.
