@katharmonic plenty of options in Syracuse for trail runs - Beaver Lake is trail run lite, Baltimore Woods much more challenging, areas in Camillus and Jamesville also that I have run - I love trail running, much more interesting than road running - Fleet Feet does a trail series in September (in 2016 we samples Hoka,…

Thanks! It will be my first half marathon and seemed like a good idea to try one locally before travelling to Indy in May for the Indy Mini... our training runs are all outside so running in the snow will be old hat by the time we get to the Syracuse Half :)

After a recovery month (if you can call December that with the holiday eating :) ), it's time to start training for the Syracuse Half in March... January: 1/1 – 4.2 miles - Resolution Run 1/2 – 1 mile - part of a triathlon test - did 7 miles on stationary bike, then 1 mile run 1/3 – 4.5 miles 1/4 – 3 miles - Fleet Feet…

Those hats are an awesome idea for Race swag - quite useful for winter running up here in Central New York...

That hill on John Street sucked - but a great way to start 2017!!!

@RunRachelleRun thanks - makes me feel a little better about rotating between 4 pairs of shoes right now - Hoka Cliftons for long runs, New Balance m880v6 for speed work, and Brooks Ghost 9 or Saucony Ride 9 for base runs. I did get the Altra Lone Peak Neoshell for winter running - I may start adding those in sooner just…

@Elise4270 I know I need an intervention when it comes to buying new shoes - just the mere mention of "Running Warehouse" makes my credit card tremble...

Nothing a headlamp, reflective vest and some good compression gear can't fix :)

You don't technically need one per pair of shoes - you can switch it between pairs - the app will always show you the pair you register it with, but the stats IMHO will still be valid if you switch it between shoes... I rotate between 4 or 5 pairs of shoes, I may buy one extra - I will leave one on my Hoka's (long run…

More information on how the Pod determines your run: The MilestonePod uses a highly sensitive accelerometer to calculate distance and duration. There are no buttons to push to start and stop and no GPS signal needed. Here is how it works: The Pod wakes up when it senses any movement. Once you go above a cadence of 100…

Do you have the Garmin Pod for that? I don't think the Garmin Pod is compatible with the Forerunner 235 I have...
-
Good question - I would not think so as you sync after the fact and there is no GPS data - but I'm not sure about that - I always run with mine to play music... Edit: just read somewhere that you do not need your phone with you - you can sync afterwards - I cannot confirm that...

@HeatherMN @_nikkiwolf_ I received my Milestone Pod on Thursday and finally got a run in with it today - I did 8 miles this afternoon. It is small with a battery that needs to be inserted - not rechargeable - you attach it on one shoe - either 2nd cross or 3rd cross of laces from the toe (based on the heel to toe drop of…

Is that "Rocket Fuel: Power-Packed Food for Sports and Adventure" by Matthew Kadey? That was actually a very informative episode of that podcast - bought the book immediately following it myself :)

@RunRachelleRun I like the following podcasts: Negative Splits Heartland Running Run To The Top - with Tina Muir The Runner's World Show

This video was suggested to me also to help with form - in particular overstriding - I thought I would share... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcWsOM144xo

I actually hope to get 400 miles out of my shoes - the only reason I am concerned about the wear pattern is the New Balance look like they are on pace for 200 miles tops - which seems very low for a $110 pair of shoes...
-
Road running is great - but views like this make trail running so much more interesting... :)
-
Love photos like this - this kind of scenery makes it worth running... :)

I've seen Clapton and Bonnie Raitt. I was unable to go to Robert Cray this past summer, and I missed Jeff Healey and SRV before the passed. I certainly did not have the chance to see them in Alpine Valley (I do have a bootleg of SRV's set from that weekend) - I can officially say I am extremely jealous.

@7lenny7 Here are the shoes I run in - what I use them for and their drops: New Balance m880v6 - speed work - 5mm drop Hoka One One Clifton 3 - long runs - 10mm drop Saucony Ride 9 - all other runs - 8mm drop Brooks Ghost 9 - all other runs - 12mm drop I tend to run in each pair once a week. In April, the New Balance were…

@luluinca I felt the same way this past weekend at the completion of my long run for the week. I was amazed at how far I have come in 10 months - would never have believed it possible when I started in January. In my very late 40's here and have simply remained consistent running 3-4 times a week... it sounds like you are…
-
@Ericsmi The significant wear on the New Balance shoe I attached was accumulated during April/May/June of this year when I was between 200-220 lbs. The wear on the Hoka's is within the last 30 days (current weight 180) and is not nearly as drastic. My Saucony Rides and Brooks Ghosts (more recent shoes also) have roughly 40…

@karllundy "White Sugar" and "Diamonds In The Dirt" were excellent - still my favorites from her - she came to a local club near home so I got the chance to see her play - only an hour show and she did mostly stuff from her new album "Wild" but she was fantastic - a true musician...

@7lenny7, @9voice9 , @Stoshew71, @lissadecker the best part of this discussion is they are both excellent - Skynyrd and the Allmans - can't lose with either - Tedeschi Trucks another great choice... listening to Made Up Mind right now - I love how Tedeshi's voice has many similarities to Bonnie Raitt. In the Tedschi Trucks…

I need a bit of advice - Having only been running for 10 months now I'm sure my form could use some improvement but the wear pattern on my running sneakers has me confused a bit. I rotate 4 pairs of shoes and a couple of them are starting to show significant wear on the outside heels. The blue image is my New Balance…

@7lenny7 I had considered the Speed Cross 3's on sale a week or two ago on Amazon - shoe looked awesome and the tread looked great but I read the lugs on the outside are not durable and they run narrow (which you have confirmed) - I also wasn't a fan of the quick lace system - I ended up getting the Saucony Peregrine 6's…
-
@kristinegift I feel your pain - my first 10k two weeks ago was almost all hills - I did learn a great deal about what I could do though so worth it in the end - but I still wish I had scouted it first :)

Insanely jealous!! :)
