Friends?!?!?!?

As someone who used to hate running but has finally discovered that "runner's high," I echo everyone here. Start sloooow. Very slow. The key is length, not speed when you're starting out imo. You might even build it up faster than you realize. Don't rely solely on cardio either, lifting has really helped me with my…

Depends on my workout routine that day, but generally 1300-1600. I usually work out 6x a week and am trying to build lean muscle more than lose fat. I am 5, 0" so even though it doesn't seem like a lot, it is pretty good. Only time I have to be careful are the rare days I burn 1000+ cals.

Cottage cheese is my go to, or a boiled egg.

Getting in to it. I plan to try and take a class when I find one that works with my schedule. I have a few videos but I am worried my form isn't correct, and with some yoga poses I have a hard time checking myself so I really want an instructor to check my form.

I plan ahead and workout when it fits in best, morning, afternoon, or night. However when I get to choose I prefer late afternoon/early evening. It is my favorite way to decompress after working and some of my best thinking occurs.

Thankfully other people may find value in the posts. I did. :) You are probably right though.

I used to despise cooking, but as I get older and improve my nutrition I enjoy it more and more.

Love it in my fruit smoothies, on toast, and in my oatmeal. I'll have to try it in yogurt. Also love the chocolate pb powder when I'm feeling a sugar craving.
-
Ice cream. Measuring out an actual half cup was sad. Thankfully I found Halo Top, but damn it is expensive.
-
Same here with the nuts. It was like wuuuuuut.
-
Your question is not stupid. I learned a lot from this thread. Thanks for asking.
-
Very true indeed!
-
I enjoy HIIT too! What do you like to do?

Are you measuring yourself as well? When I was in a period of burning fat and building muscle, my scale didn't budge for 4 solid weeks, but I lost 3 inches off my waist. After a while, the weight started dropping. If your clothes are fitting better that is a great sign. And like everyone else has said, DO NOT EYEBALL.…

Do you need to lose weight? Or are you "skinny fat?" Doing more strength training will firm up any loose bits, but when building muscle be wary of the scale. Focus on body changes.

I LOVE my HRM. It seems to be quite accurate. I only wear it during workout and do not turn it on for warm up or cool down. Best investment I have made to date. Bought my first one in 2015. Mine is a chest strap. I have found those to be most accurate.

I like all of them, they help vary my routine.

For me it is sweets. I haven't stopped eating sweets, but you can bet your mama's life that if I'm going to eat a sweet it is worth it. Nothing is worse than wasting calories on a disappointing sweet. One thing I mostly cut out, but consume on rare occasions (or with alcohol) is soda. I grew up in a household where if you…

With females unsolicited advice like that just comes off bitchy, even with the best intentions. For all you know she did it on purpose. I say keep your mouth shut and just go about your day. Pretty much the only time it is ok to comment on a stranger's appearance is when they have something coming out of an orifice.…

Thanks! That being said I had an awful cheat day yesterday, but it was my sister's birthday so we went out. Literally like 1/3 over my daily goal for maintenance and I skipped my work out to get some errands done before the party. Just gotta remind myself that it is OK once in a while, but can't be an everyday lifestyle…

Plyo gets the heart rate up, but man it makes me realize how bad my knees are if I'm not careful. I wish there was more variety and more muscle groups worked. It seems to always be the same like 8 muscles over and over regardless of the moves that week.
-
I try to log everything as best I can, but most DEFINITELY I log 'cheat' days. It's all about accountability.
-
My very fit, healthy sister actually got very, very ill from doing this. I wouldn't recommend.

It's a great low impact workout, maybe increase your time? I have been blessed with god awful knees and sometimes my HIIT and running kill me. I love spin when the elliptical gets old, sometimes (not in a class) I'll alternate between the elliptical and the bike.

Thank you all again for your thoughts and opinions! Once I check it out I will update you as to my thoughts and feelings. She says it's a good gym, or "box," I guess, for beginners up to the competitive kool-aid CF people, and she's checked out all of them in the area. I may not fall in love with it, but learning new…

I should preface that by "barely beginning" I mean about a year and a half. And no max lifts, but strength and variations are an integral part of my overall fitness routine. I'm no expert but I've got form and all that down pretty well.
-
Thanks! I'm definitely not looking to compete like she does, but I am definitely wanting to improve my overall fitness. After working out at home for so many years, I am in a bit of a rut. And where I used to enjoy the solitude, it would be kinda nice now to share insight and gains now that I'm not a total pleb weakling.

Haha I figured. But this girl did cross country running and totally plateaued. She started crossfit and barely ran and ended up beating all her PRs in cross country and placed in a 10k. I figure I can't knock it til I try it. And personally, I am for any form of exercise as long as it gets people moving.

If you can, definitely invest in an HRM. Amazon has some pretty decent ones for cheap. If you can't, always go on the low end. Take into account factors like incline, speed, and how out of breath you feel. If you are able to sing, you probably aren't working hard enough depending on how aerobic you want it to be. If you…
