What if Rupert Holmes and Jimmy Buffett teamed up to do PinaColadaVille?

To the OP's question: It depends on where you are in your journey and how you view your journey. If you're two weeks in and your view is short term, one bad day of eating will seem devastating. If you're fifty pounds down from your starting weight and you're in this for the long haul, one bad day of eating will be an "Eh"…

So, you're saying that I was right when I said in my original post that this does "put the lie to the one-size-fits-all approach to ideal weight ranges."

I use the reading from my UA scale. To get to 183 pounds using my method above would require a BF% of 44.5%, which is a 24% variance from the current BF% reading. It's possible the variance could be that high, but I doubt it, and that still doesn't account for the fact that I'd be at 0% BF to get to my ideal weight from…

I didn't use BMI. I used BF%.

Wow! I must have lucked into a great gym, 'cause mine has all these things.

Inappropriate is the only kind of friend to have.

Had my right knee replaced in November and my left knee goes the end of February. Prior to the first surgery, Naproxen twice a day was what kept me mobile. I started rowing last March in order to lose weight and strengthen my legs for surgery. It's about the only exercise that actually reduced the pain in my knees while I…

Full service gym with pool - $35 a month for the next two and a half years. Then I'll be 65, and it's free on the Silver Sneakers plan.

62 here. I've been on MFP for almost two years but only got serious about losing weight and getting fit around the end of February this year. Been going to the gym (weights and rowing) regularly since then and have lost about thirty lbs so far. Had knee replacement surgery on the right knee the middle of November and just…

It's not just FitBit. I have a UA Band, and it quit syncing yesterday as well. Pretty bad when they can't even stay connected to their own devices.

Still working my way through The Civil War: A Narrative, Vol. 3: Red River to Appomattox, Diplomacy, and Bleak House, but I've added The Old Religion in a New World: The History of North American Christianity and The Witching Hour to my currently reading pile.

Stages along the bearded journey.

Definitely the rowing machine, and if you can only do ten to twenty minutes, that's a good start.

Much more...uhm...accurate, yeah we'll go with accurate...if someone else does the checking for you. >:)

BMI is a calculated number with factors only for weight and height; BMI = Weight (kg) / (Height (m))2. So, if you're not still growing and you're not shrinking, changes in your actual weight give you just as much information as do changes in your BMI. Better indicators of how you're doing with weight loss and fitness…

The seven-book stack in front is my currently-reading pile. The bigger stacks in back are my to-read books.

I have arthritis (bone-on-bone) in both knees. Will need to have them both replaced soon. Rowing is my favorite for a good combination of cardio and strength training (full body, one set, 2500 reps B) ). I've worked my way up to 15,000 meters (about an hour and a half a day) without further damage to my knees. I also used…

There was this buffalo that got loose in the casino, so I.... Oh, wait! Sorry. That's the wrong story. That's the one I tell to the gullible young girls. B) Buffalo are my favorite badass animal and chaos theory intrigues the hell out of me, so I just combined them.

Also, check out this page about getting comfortable on the C2 web site. concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/tips-and-general-info/getting-comfortable

I haven't had your particular problem, but you might try lowering the footpads. I'm overweight as well and set them as low as possible. I think it's the setting marked "1." That gives you more room to compress your body into the catch position.

Sex drive peaking? What the hell are you talking about? B)

Accurate is an elusive thing to define. Consistency is much more important because that's what shows you how your trending in your weight-loss endeavors. Consistency comes from weighing yourself in the same setting every time you weigh; scale in the same place, you in the same state of dress or undress, same time of day,…

I second the rowing machine recommendation. I have osteoarthritis (bone-on-bone) in both knees and can't stand or walk for very long at a time. I row about an hour and a half six days a week. Almost no impact on the knees and it's a great total-body workout.

Here's a link to a Concept2 page. About the middle of the page is a couple of paragraphs - with some links - on setting a single calorie workout. You could row one for the 20 calories, then use the weight adjustment calculator to get a calorie adjustment for yourself, and use the adjusted amount subsequently when you set…

I concur completely with the previous two posters. I'm 62 and row on a Concept2 machine six days a week at a damper setting of 5. I'm a distance junkie, so I do around 15k a day at a steady pace and hit the 510 to 520 range for calories per hour. I've been using the machines since March of this year and have never had more…

I have not had the pleasure of doing so.

4, but they're all family.

If I could row on the water, my gym would be outdoors, but living in New Mexico kind of precludes that, so my favorite gym is the one with several rowing machines.
