  • If that's the case, increase as much as you can handle as long as your form is solid.
  • @SMurguia stronglifts.com/5x5/ is the website, he has a great free phone app for the system too.
  • I eat oatmeal with protein powder each morning...for the last couple of years... I've found vanilla PP allows the most variety in flavors by adding cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice or other spices to add a little flair. I've found that if I vary that routine my food choices the rest of the day go downhill very quickly.
  • We like Swai. It's a mild, white fleshed fish that cooks well on the grill or baked in the oven. I prefer to marinate it for a few hours and grill it for fish tacos! Other than that I eat tuna a lot and salmon once in a while. I can occasionally find Steelhead fillets which I love on the grill. I generally lay the fillets…
  • Here's a great article that may help you out! bodyrecomposition.com/training/returning-to-training-after-a-layoff-qa.html/
  • Start lifting now and work on dialing in your nutrition as you go. Find a good program that involves a progression of weight, reps or both. I suggest a 5x5 lifting program or forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843 for building a good base. Take into consideration your physical abilities or limitations and the…
  • 5 am is when I get up and head to the gym. I've been doing that for 2 years now. It was hard for the first couple of months but I love it now.
  • I say order two eggs cooked the way you want them along with wheat toast. Of course I don't understand people's phobia about eating a whole egg and all the nutrients that are in the yolk. Time with your Dad is getting limited at this point.
  • @Tacklewasher It's a pretty simple recipe. I hit the butt with Mad Hunky General Purpose Rub along with some added pepper and garlic then throw it in the smoker. I run it at 225-240 degrees with hickory smoke for about 6 hours. At that point I double wrap it in foil, throw it in the oven at 225 until the internal temp hits…
  • A multi-vitamin and two fish oil pills a day have helped me lose 50 pounds...along with proper nutrition and exercise!
  • Dr Oz or Dingaling Wolfe...
  • I cook mine on the smoker and use the ACV in the sauce I make...
  • I hit it for 6 months or so. By the time I switched I was squatting and deadlifting past my body weight and had maxed out the weight equipment we had available at the time in our gym. I will be getting back to it this spring after I finish my current session with a trainer. I hit my lifts on alternating days, Sunday,…
  • Sounds to me like you need saddle time. Put in the miles and the speed will come. Cycling is very quad oriented, running really isn't so squats and anything you can do to build up the quads is going to help. I know you like to run but cycling is a great cross training exercise and will help if done correctly. Saddle time...
  • They gym may have someone who can walk you through the machines when you sign up. I prefer weight lifting to help maintain muscle mass but I've started getting more serious about running lately too. Congratulations on making this decision and good luck! Also, check out that link above...
  • Run more miles at a very easy pace, building the volume will build your base cardio level higher and allow you to run faster on the short run. Throw in about 20% or less in random speed or hill work per week. I carved 15:30 off of my 5K time in the last year doing this and ran a treadmill mile in 7:50 the last time I…
  • @Jtalaskamom Thanks for posting that video! I found it quite educational.
  • It's water weight, don't freak out. Constipation will do that too... Maintain the course and have some patience, you'll get there! Good luck!
  • I just add protein powder, rotating through flavors as I empty tubs. If I'm in a vanilla protein I add cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice powder for flavor at times. I prefer the old fashioned oats, they have a better texture than the quick cooking stuff.
  • Other than a good treadmill I think you have what I would consider my perfect gym set up.
  • If you like feeling jittery all the time and taking a leak every 5 minutes they work great...
  • Stick a dollar (or any other amount) in a jar for each time you hit a workout. Do not allow yourself to spend it until a set date... Alternatively, give a friend X dollars for the month, you only get it back for doing the work and proving it.
  • I'd guess the bench press is the most beneficial lift for push ups. Melanie gave some great advice to help you along your path too! When I started lifting, pull ups and chins were my nemesis, after a year of really working hard with the weights I'm finally getting much stronger faster on them. Work on it and give it some…
  • I wimped out this morning, the streets were pretty slick from what little snow we have so I did 5 miles on the treadmill this morning. It was 3 degrees outside and now they are saying it's going to be 60 degrees Monday...
  • I gave up on tracking weight training calories on here. I just figure they are "bonus" calories in case I mistrack or get a little wild eating.
  • @bigmanatee, 80 degrees is far to warm to run... :D I'll be doing it again in the morning if anyone wants to come and join me!!
  • If it's strength you want listen to @jemhh and check out that link. Pick a program that looks good, do it exactly as it's written, give it several months and track your success. You'll be amazed how much you progress over time.
  • Interesting question, I wear the same socks for everything. Never thought about specialized socks for different activities.
  • Shovel snow... :D Do you have stairs? Up, down, up, down... I'll bet you can come up with something creative to get some cardio in. Good luck on your training!
  • Our spin class has mostly that brand...they seem pretty decent. I haven't had to do too much maintenance on them at this point. Although...our instructor has sheared off a couple of pedals and broken a crank once. She hits it hard and is a large woman though.
