  • First timer. Not sure how to find this later. Original starting weight: 182 June starting weight: 165.5 June goal: 159.5 Ultimate goal: 142 June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27:
  • Congratulations. You've got a lot of good advice here. You can adjust as you go along, but starting out I would just try for a calorie deficit. You can still eat the things you like, but in smaller portions. Spend time researching and as you lose you can add exercise. I wish you the very best of luck.
  • I have a Garmin Forerunner 225 and I love it. I use it mainly for the Heart Rate, distances and steps. I love having the gps to know how far I've gone and to see my improvements in pace. I was very out of shape and it's nice to see that I've gone from 23 minute miles to 15 minute miles at about the same heart rate. Seeing…
  • Yes, but if your only reason for doing this is weight loss, then I wouldn't weigh myself every day. Your body retains water or you don't have a BM for a couple days and your weight loss may not show right away. Sometimes I can wear something I couldn't the week before even though my scales aren't showing much loss. Other…
  • I like walking/running so that is mainly what I do. However, everyone should do some kind of strength training. I have to force myself to do that a 2 or 3 a week. Some calisthenics work for this and really don't take that long. Especially good are the plank, crunches, push-ups, leg lifts. I find your body responds better…
  • At first I don't mind when people say I'm getting too thin, and I should eat more, but I really don't like it when they get argumentative about it. I don't need to explain to them that I'm still over my BMI and get their permission to lose weight. I try to just smile and change the subject or say 'Doctor's Orders' because…
  • I don't cook so unless I go to a restaurant my meals are the same. One of the following: Healthy Choice Steamers, one egg over a piece of toast, cottage cheese with pineapple, yogurt with blueberries, cereal and milk. Makes it easy though. If I want something bad enough, I make sure to exercise enough to have it.
  • If you get in the habit of having healthy stuff available to eat and not eating office food it gets easier. However, if I have to have something then a lot of times I will just have one bite. It kills the craving and isn't too many calories.
  • I don't mind people asking most of the time, but I hate it when they ask me at inappropriate times, in public places, around strangers, etc. I'm trying to think up appropriate responses to cut them off at the pass. I'm thinking about - I don't want to talk about that right now - I don't know (how much weight have you lost)…
  • If you eat too little your metabolism slows down and it makes it even harder to lose. You actually lose weight faster if you eat a little more and be sure to eat some good fats too. I've seen people who plateaued and were told to add a little good fat to their diet (olive oil-peanut butter) and started losing again.
  • The thing I hate about eating low carb is that I don't have sustainable energy. I do much better with the right amount of carbs and not eating too low fat. The carbs let me run and some fat keeps me from being hungry.
  • I had all your symptoms till I added good fat back in my diet. I don't know why. I just know I was told not to go too low fat. I use olive oil to cook with, peanut butter on toast, 4% cottage cheese, etc. When I was on Weight Watchers several people had your problem but when they added some good fat back in it rally helped
  • Didn't realize I couldn't go back and add info so reentering Original starting weight : 182 December starting weight : 170 December goal : 163 Ultimate goal : 136 Next weigh in: Dec 8
  • I hope that happens for me because I have not been able to wear long sleeves in years, except as a jacket, due to an illness. I'm hoping getting thin will help that.
  • So many ambivalent feelings: That after losing a size and getting to wear something that was too tight before, I can see the difference and feel thinner, but the next day, because I have so far to go, I still feel as heavy as ever. That I am so proud of myself for succeeding at this and so disgusted with myself for letting…
  • I have noticed that. They don't really want to sabotage you, but you're changing before their eyes and I think if they love you it takes a little adjustment on their part too.
  • I have a question for the first lady. Was that person overweight or normal weight? I am overweight and I can understand why someone who goes to the trouble to live a healthy lifestyle might not be attracted to me unless I lost weight. It's like a boring man wanting an exciting woman. Why would she be interested. I feel if…
  • Good for you. I love to read such positive stories, My granddaughter lost about 120 lbs and has kept it off through 3 pregnancies. It is very motivating for me. .
  • That is ridiculous. You can't legislate thought or morality or humor or whatever. If we weren't buying those magazines and books they wouldn't be publishing that stuff. I agree on more education.
  • I don't care about other people's choices. I only know about me. I know how unhealthy it is for me to be overweight and how much more difficult it is to have energy, feel good, buy clothes etc. I've noticed the older I get the harder it is to feel well. I have been fat and have family and friends who are fat. I love them…
  • Sorry, no. I have Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. Not life threatening just difficult to deal with at times.

  • I weigh myself everyday, but I've noticed that if I have a weight drop one day the next day I will be a few ounces over that, so I don't worry about it because at the end of the week I've lost 1 or 2 lbs. However, I would like to be able to weight myself every 3 days so all I see is the loss.
  • At weight watchers there were a lot of people who plateaued and as soon as they added good fat to their diet (olive oil, TBSP peanut butter, etc) they were able to lose. There is a balance for your body to work properly and if you go too low-fat you pay the consequences. Also helps constipation. The other thing is you…
  • That is great. Congratulations. The things that have helped me the most are: 1. Make sure you get some good fat in your diet or you plateau. I use olive oil to cook my egg, 1 Tbsp peanut butter on toast, 4% cottage cheese, and full fat yogurt. 2. Eat at least 1200 calories a day. If you eat too little your metabolism slows…
  • I'm 69 and I plan on being in the top 50 in my age group for a 5k in Florida within the next 2 years. I try to be smart about it and base my training on my age because I don't want to hurt myself, but I figure along the way I will probably do better than people younger than me. I sure had some old farts show me up in the…
  • That sounds really thin for your height. I am 5'5" and am really thin at 132. If you were maintaining at around 10,000 steps, and are healthy, why are you concerned about this? If you enjoy doing it, then do it, if not then go with what you like to do. Everybody needs to decide for themselves what a healthy weight is but…
  • Yes there is evidence. If you lower your calories too much, your metabolism slows down. You're right about the ancedotal evidence. I've seen it often. Also if you cut out too much fat you will have problems
  • Things I've noticed that hinder weight loss: 1. People give up too much good fat: Several people I know have plateaued and when they add a little good fat to their diet they start losing again. I use olive oil to cook my eggs, 1 tbsp of peanut butter on toast regularly, buy full fat yogurt and 4% cottage cheese. 2. Eat too…
