  • Don't rely on your gym buddies to know about calorie tracking and how MFP works. Also, gym buddies may be focused more on muscle gains than weight loss, so to them, too little food means loss of muscle mass, which is the opposite of what you want.
  • When I go to Reports on the website, I only see "Charts" and "Export Data". Where are you seeing "Weekly digest"?
  • If you're exercising 5 days a week, how accurate are you measuring calories spent exercising? And are you eating all those calories back? Because if you're overestimating exercise and eating those calories back, you could be at a calorie surplus due to that.
  • I'm definitely happy with the results. Thanks! :) Trying to work hard but sustainable.
  • In any case, thanks for the ideas! I'll keep an eye on it.
  • 1) Possible. I try to estimate high when logging so I don't overeat. But I don't think I'm estimating/under-eating to the tune of an extra 500 calories/day, which as I understand is what it would take to lose the second pound per week, right? 2) I guess it's possible, but I'd be surprised. I selected "lightly active" and…
  • It's been pretty consistent. I'd lost 8 in the first month and it's gonna be about 8 this month as well.
  • These are ballpark estimates for how I do it: Breakfast: 0 Lunch: 600 (35%) Snack: 200 (12%) Dinner: 700 (41%) Snack: 200 (12%) Total: 1700 (100%) If I am going to the gym, I give myself a larger portion for lunch, then depending how much I worked out, I'll also increase my dinner portion. That's what works for me to…
  • I'm a guy, so it'll probably go a little different for you than me, but after 4 weeks I'd lost about the same amount you had. One of my friends noticed and remarked that it looked like I'd lost some weight. Now, 6 weeks since I started, I'm down 12 pounds. Yesterday I tried on some pants I hadn't worn in a while, and they…
  • I listen to podcasts when I work out. Really helps the time pass faster. So find some good podcasts and enjoy! Or audiobooks if that's more your style. I've tried music before, but it's not as mentally engaging for me - After the first few seconds of the song, I'm mostly bored waiting to see what the next song will be.…
  • Yeah, maybe that's it. I use both the web page and the app interchangeably, so who knows which one I entered my weight on.
  • If that's the case, it does make me curious how I could lose a pound and have my net calories/day increase by 10. Obviously it's a minor change. Just makes me wonder about the math behind the calculations.
  • Having to estimate calories of meals I eat at restaurants. I'm so precise when I'm cooking at home, weighing food, and tracking calories. But it bugs me that when I'm out, I could be off by a couple hundred calories and not know it.
  • You said you need some serious motivation. You also said your wedding is in July (yay) and honeyoon in September. So it sounds to me you have all the motivation you need right there. Good luck! :)
  • I don't know if this will help, but if it does, great. Think about the times when you tried before and it didn't stick. which part was the tricky part? Did you not track everything you ate? If so, don't let yourself be lax on that. Put everything down. Did you not track accurately? If so, try to be more precise with what…
  • Sort of related to what you asked, that might be helpful. When I make something like a pot of stew - something that's way too much to eat all of at once - and create a recipe in MFP for it, I use my food scale to measure the exact weight of the entire prepared dish. Let's say that comes to 100 oz. Then in the recipe, I set…
  • Do you mean you're concerned that your busy schedule doesn't allow you the time to go to the gym? Because with MFP you don't have to do anything but log your meals and stick to the allotted calories to lose weight. Doesn't really take "extra" time out of your day, except the few minutes it takes to log your meals.
  • I've noticed that on exercise days, I often don't feel hungry enough to eat them all back - my appetite isn't much different than a non-exercise day. So I don't force myself to hit the mark. If I'm a couple hundred calories shy of my goal, I will just lose weight a little bit faster than my goal pace. Since my goal pace is…
  • What about a small snack when you first get up, just to get you through those two hours until you can exercise?
  • What do you think about this. Forget "forcing yourself to go to the gym", but instead, do one week where you track everything and stick to your net calorie goal every day. Don't have to do anything else except this. Then see where you are after that week. I don't mean see where you are as far as weight. I mean, after being…
  • I recently learned about this myself. Strength Training exercises don't automatically affect your calories/net calories because there are too many outside factors involved in how many calories you lose. The app/site simply doesn't have the info to give you an accurate estimate. Cardio exercises are more predictable, so…
  • Thanks, everyone! I hope I haven't made everyone too hungry for peanut butter! ;)
  • Thanks, it's not so much that I'm attached to it. I just know the green check marks are more accurate. I'll probably do like you and make an entry into My Foods. Thanks!
  • These are all volume, right? How can I create a weight measure if I don't know the information to make the conversion? I guess, scoop out a tablespoon and weight it, then convert? Would that be accurate enough?
  • This is all useful information. Thanks, everyone!
  • Thanks, kommodevaran! Certainly infrequent occasions like holiday parties I can feel fine estimating, because in the long run I'm not in those situations a lot. However, due to the nature of my work, I do eat at restaurants several times a week. So I am going to need some strategy for being able to accurately estimate…
