  • I find increasing protein with a protein powder drink really helps me feel less hungry. In fact, I have to drink it after exercising, because it makes me feel too full to run. A high protein, lower carb diet helps keep weight down too.
  • I'm 69 and compete in Maters Track and Field. It's amazing how athletic folks my age and older can be. I do have more problems with injury due to less flexibility and I have less stamina. But even after tearing my hamstring in March, I just ran 2 miles outdoors on hills without any pain and I'm getting my cardio fitness…
  • I'm 69 and definitely find it harder to maintain my level of fitness, even compared to early 60's. Plus, I'm more prone to injury as a master's track and field athlete. I tore my hamstring in March at a national meet and had to hobble over hurdles. I can run 2 miles now without pain, but I have to run slow and steady,…
  • Hi. I'm a master's track and field athlete, recently injured for a second time (piriformis and hamstring). I'm 69 yo woman. I don't have weight issues, but looking for recommended nutrition (nothing off the wall) and getting back to pre-injury conditioning without re-injuring a chronic issue with piriformis. After a month…

  • Intervals on a stationary bike give you a great cadio workout. I do 4 minutes of hard peddling (my heart rate can go up to 140's....okay for me) followed by 3 minutes leisurely (HR goes down under 120). At the end I peddle until my heart rate is back to 100. My resting heart rate is in the low 60's. I pulled my hamstring…
  • I'm a 32 G. Oprah recommended ENELL bra and I love it. It is the kind that pushes the breasts flatter against your body for zero bounce. I love it for competition on the track. You measure your rib cage and bust to determine size. Mine is a # 1. It's not cheap, but it lasts for years. It has hooks and eyes in the front.
  • Depending on your age, our bodies tend to redistribute fat and one of those areas is to the area beneath your under arms. I'm 69 and weigh only 119 pounds at 5' 5". but i now put my fat around my breasts and under my arms as well as on my abdomen. I would love more of a booty !!!! but flat as a pancake down there. that…

  • You might need to see a sports physician/orthopedist. It sounds to me like you have significant injury, if you can't do daily activities like driving. I'm a runner and have torn soft tissue, requiring rest, physical therapy, scar tissue break-up and massage. Also, the first thing after injury is ice, not heat. If you can…
  • I compete at USATF Masters track and field and some of their road races......started when I was 60. I had been doing local 5k's, but was getting bored and had no focus. Since everyone at the national events in my age group is my age (haha redundant!) and some compete internationally and set world records (google Kathryn…
  • I had PT who used some sort of metal instrument to break up scar tissue from tears in the muscle. Yes, doing stretches and some butt strength exercises. You sound much more dedicated than me. But my dog has one of those hard tennis-type balls you're talking about. so, do you roll on it,kind of like rolling on the foam…
  • It is bigger than a lacrosse ball, for sure. I just tried it, though, and it gets in deeper than the foam roller. When I feel well enough to run (flu) hopefully soon, I'll see if it helps. if not, I'll get a lacrosse ball. thanks for your help. I hadn't read or heard that suggestion before,
  • I haven't tried a ball. I have a shot put ball. I'll give that a "shot" haha thanks. I have a foam roller and that hasn't done much good, but I see the ball would get in deeper.
  • Hi. I'm 69 from Philadelphia, PA area (Yeh Eagles!) I have been athletic all my life and compete in Masters' track on a team. I've been having trouble maintaining my stamina and fitness level. My goals for this month: train for my track meet in mid-March 5x week stretch and roll on foam roller to loosen tightness eat more…
  • Increase protein: meat, fish, chicken, nuts, beans, eggs, some dairy. When you do eat carbs, make them whole wheat. I like the taste of whole wheat pasta and make homemade sauce that doesn't add sugar. I also add veggies, like zucchini, peppers, to the sauce. Salmon is easy to bake. I put dill weed, a tiny bit of…
  • I've been running for decades, but I recently had an injury and had to start back slowly. I could still walk briskly (3,5 mile/hour), so I was still in okay shape. But what I did was a combination walk briskly/run or jog. Depending on your fitness level, try to exercise 5 times a week, with 2 rest days. Start out walking…
  • Hi. I'm 68, newly retired, and would like to join the group. I've been on a masters' running, track and field team since I was 60. I'm finding it more difficult to train without getting really tired. Recently, I slowed down, but exercise more often, since I have the time (5x/wk, instead of 3). Has anyone else found that…
  • I'm 68, have been running and exercising for decades and also run an above average HR when exercising. My resting is mid-60's. But when I'm on a stationary bike doing "hills", I'm comfortable with 120 on the flat and on a hill feel more SOB for the interval and HR high 140's. I need the interval training for races and I…
  • I have my 2 glasses of red wine every night....hey, I'm retired and so far no bad effects on my health....and I do log them
  • thanks folks. I will have ferritin level checked and increase protein, as well. Also, I find if I do a little less, but at least 5 times a week, I do feel less exhausted. Thanks so much, Joy
  • Hi. I'm 68 and recently retired also. I'm a masters runner and don't want to lose muscle tissue, which we do as we age. My weight and BMI are normal. I do need half a blood pressure pill and half a crestor (family history issues). I do some strength training for the muscles and some running and intervals, but find it…
