Interesting ideas about partner/spouse issues... my former spouse tackled addiction issues prior to our meeting, and he was always able to keep alcohol under control and rarely drank to excess (if he did, it was very planned, not a "whoops" like me). Now, though, I can see that he may have tackled the substances, but that…

First AF Thanksgiving on the books. Phew! Not too hard, but not easy either. It helped that my sister is about 95% AF too and she said the wine wasn't very good (she didn't finish hers), plus we squeezed in 2 crazy tabata workouts in the garage. Sore is much better than hungover! I hope you all were able to stick with your…

Glitchy app today... I thought I posted this already but I don't see it. Anyhow, after a very stressful week with medical stuff with my ex, I caught him in a lie and engaging in old habits (nicotine) of which contributed to his medical stuff in the first place. My anger was overwhelming and pure and ... in short, I lost my…

@JenT304 ... of course! I hope you didn't read criticism with my post -- I didn't intend it that way. I am grateful for the support I've received here and would never dog anyone's methods! Nothing but love. I was just ruminating a bit, kind of thinking out loud. For me, I question if being is sober part of my identity? I…

@Drummer913 ... Paul, well, awesome! Maybe you can avoid having to wear a "bro." Lol... But on a serious note, in hearing Paul's process and approach to this, I'm reflecting on how we all do this. I will admit that I have not watched a single video suggested here, nor read any of the books. I have very limited time and…

Welcome @Drummer913 and so sorry about the boobs info --- TMI... but also good for the LOL's. Welcome, pal. I hope you find comfort and support and yes, maybe a laugh or two.

Update: I made it through a rough weekend with my mom, made it through my ex landing in the ER and now hospital, making it through being stretched super thin and with very little support (juggling a 40 hr/wk job, hospital visits, getting kids where they need to be and fed, bathed, etc). The ONLY thought I've had about…

Okay... I could use an extra boost of encouragement. My mom is visiting. She's a pretty difficult person (BPD)... normally I would drink a bit and I'd loosen up. I've had only one prior visit with her since I started on this AF journey. That one was fine. This one does not as there are already "issues." I guess a few walks…

Here's what being sober feels like so far... This is on top of Mt Lassen. It was windy and cold, but I was bundled up and cozy, and .... grateful to be alive.

Niko... it sounds like you're ready to start being kind to yourself and others. Today can be Day #1 if you want it to be! You have admitted that you're unkind to your children, which is the first step. If you can RECOGNIZE it, you can CHANGE it. How can we help? This is a very supportive atmosphere. Reach out to us...…

@whitpauly ... happy AF Monday to you too! This day feels fabulous so far. :)

Hi all. I had an interesting and gorgeous day! I hiked a local peak, over 1,700 ft in elevation gain in about 2.5 miles (and back down), and kinda kicked my hiking partner's butt! Not that it's a race, of course, but I was surprised that this new friend, a more experienced great hiker, had so much trouble. I think laying…

Welcome, @alerica1 ! This is a great group... some newbies (like me), and some with a lifetime of sobriety and/or a long time of taking a good, hard look at their relationship with alcohol. I've found it to be a very safe space and I hope you do too.

Going into this Halloween like... so sober! ...and so stoked that I'll remember it! Now, dear goddesses, please let this evening be over (guests out the door, children in bed) no later than 9 PM. :)

[quote=Any suggestions for getting rid of cold?[/quote] But more importantly... why are you at work while you're sick?!!?! I use this...

@Kiki9871 .... I found that I needed reminders now and again and coincidentally I found this one in my makeup bag today...

I agree. I think that kind of stuff is pretty lame. If it were truthful it wouldn't be cute (and it wouldn't sell).

I swear... now that I'm looking at calories, etc, I'm never hungry, yet never full. It reminds me of when I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes and I had to be so careful with my diet. Essentially I eat like very much like that now, and it's an excellent way to maintain my blood sugar and weight, but I sure miss…

Is there ever a WRONG time to drink coffee?!! (so asks the unapologetic woman with the strong caffeine addiction -- ha ha!)

Hi Karen! You ran the Humboldt Redwoods marathon??!! That's awesome! When I was born we lived in Humboldt Redwoods, in Bull Creek, where my dad was a ranger. I live in Redding now. I'm so jealous! I've always wanted to run a marathon but fear has held me back... 3 miles is my go-to length and even that is a butt-kicker.

Who's going for a sober Halloween? Besides me? :) Last year was fun (it was dubbed Hallowhiskey by my clever crew), but this year I might even get to keep some memories! Last year my daughter and I dressed up as the same thing - Viking shield maidens a la Lagertha - and we had an epic sword battle which she won...…

If all he uses to communicate are movie references. Ha ha! I'm just teasing (kinda). :)

Hang in there, Ruby! On my toughest days I'm guilty of just going to bed early knowing it will all be better tomorrow. Good for you for taking care of yourself. ♥️

Oh man, that's rough. I'm sorry to hear it. ... but good on ya for keeping a clear head. Tough to do at times like those.

1,000 times yes on this!

Gorgeous! Where is that? Almost looks like Mendocino.

30 days AF on the books. This is, historically, a tough place for me (in my lengthy 4 months of attempts - ha!). I celebrated with a big crazy hike, in which I denied the peak and napped for a half hour instead. Pure bliss. Still, 2,500 elev gain in 3.5 miles (7 round trip)....yowza!

That's a little nub off Granite Peak in the Trinity Alps. Northern CA.
