I'm not sure on the app but on a desktop, you click the person's name > View Profile > MyFitnessPal Profile > Add as Friend. It's a bit roundabout.

Hormones can play a role in what you see on the scale. I only see fewer pounds the week after my period. It can also be hard to lose weight if you have certain hormonal imbalances, like thyroid problems. If everything else is in order, you might want to get your hormone levels checked.

I couldn't maintain a reduced calorie diet because I was hungry all the time. I would eat a meal and still feel hungry afterward but I couldn't afford to eat more calories and stay within my limits. Everyone said that would change but it never did. By six weeks in, I just felt hungrier and hungrier every day. When I just…

You may never see this but for whoever it might help, I'd like to reply. I learned DBT and then started EMDR. I think this is the way to go. DBT helps you gain the skills to cope with the trauma that comes up in EMDR. Both are very helpful, however if you have a good therapist who is helping you, that is so important. I…

Binaural beats is an interesting new thing that has been helping me sleep. You put on a pair of headphones and two different beats play in each ear. Your brain translates the two beats into one so you hear only one beat, but the part of your brain that does the translating gets fired up. Depending on how far apart the…

Covid can be really hard to recover from. I'm still struggling with a lingering cough almost a year later and I only recently got my taste back. It's almost as bad as dealing with a smug husband . . . Have you considered weight training? Building muscle can help increase your metabolism and you can do it despite challenges…

I use corn tortillas wherever I can, like in melted cheese and tuna sandwiches. They are a bit tricky because you have to heat them to keep them together but they are lower calorie than bread: 50 calories per tortilla.

Our bodies are meant to sleep during the night and sleeping from 3-11 is never as good for you as sleeping 10-6. If you can manage to start a better sleep schedule, you will notice that you feel a lot more rested. Then the odd weekend night when you stay up and have fun won't affect your body quite as much.

I've been doing EMDR for the past 4ish years and it has greatly helped. I have CPTSD from pervasive developmental trauma as well as a handful of acute traumas. I had been in therapy for a while doing talk therapy and felt like I hit a wall. I couldn't move forward anymore using the executive function in my brain. EMDR…

I struggle with insomnia and have several things that help my sleep. Tart cherry juice has natural melatonin and will gently help you sleep. Lavender scents help me sleep longer. I use one drop of the essential oil when I'm having trouble sleeping and it can add as much as an hour on to my sleep time. Binaural beats have…

I have earbuds made just for sleeping. I can lay on them and not feel them most of the time. They have wires, which I prefer since I worry that air buds will get lost, but they are tangle-free and can stand up to a lot of abuse. I use them for binaural beats, which I highly recommend if you have trouble sleeping.

Unfortunately, even if I put the same weight in as my last check in, my calories are automatically recalculated. It doesn't offer, although when I've made other changes, I recall a window popping up. However, it still recalculated my calories, no matter what choice I picked. I can't remember what it said now, but it was…

If you haven't already, you might want to get a physical therapist to take a look. Some back pain is caused by joints being locked up or out of place and exercising isn't going to help. In fact, it could hurt. A good physical therapist will also give you tips on keeping your back safe during exercise.

Hi all. I have 100 pounds to lose. Before coming to MFP I've never met anyone who lost 100 pounds without getting surgery. I was worried it wasn't possible but I wasn't willing to get surgery. Now I've read about several who have and I'm so excited. I'm going to make this happen!

Eating a delicious spinach salad for lunch and feeling really good about my food choice.

I started off with the 1 pound a week option but upped it to .5 pound a week when I was getting shaky and dizzy. I was eyeballing amounts of food but eventually discovered I was underestimating, which is probably why I was getting shaky and dizzy. I measure but haven't ever weighed. I tracked everything. Not much exercise.…

Ha, ha! I didn't notice that!

Been there, done that. Still losing weight. Don't lose sight of the big (skinny?) picture. Focus on what's working and forgive yourself for screw ups.

Ha, ha! That's what I've been doing too!

Thanks! Lots of good thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the extra time to share this.

Good point. I'm actually tracking my fiber intake as well because higher amount of fiber helps me limit my overall calorie intake. If I didn't log these foods, I would lose the ability to track my fiber intake. I hadn't thought about that.

Thanks for your comments. Years ago I cut out sweets. Not sugar, per se, or carbs or anything, just treats that were sweeter than an orange. I dropped 20 pounds without doing anything else. Two years later I was still having serious cravings for sugar. After a little research, I started eating natural sweeteners: brown…

Thanks! That looks great. I like the age-dejying workout they link to as well.

Wow! Yes, you're right! I have lost a lot of "abuse weight"! Ready to start on the physical weight. Thanks so much for the perspective!
