  • If you're picky, what kinds of foods do you like? My best advice without knowing that is to get a crock pot and a cheap set of re-useable containers. Do something yummy like chili - it freezes well and isn't too expensive for the ingredients, especially if you do vegetarian chili. Rice and beans is also a good and…

  • I have a cheap digital scale from Walgreens (you can find them at Walmart, Shopko, Target, etc) - it is glass with metal undersides. It has always seemed pretty accurate...
  • So hard to pick a favorite! For dinner tonight, I made pasta with pesto and mozzarella chix sausages - total about 350 cal (I eat more at night so I don't wake up hungry) if you use only one sausage (I really like protein). It was delicious and flavorful! For the family though there are a couple things I would suggest: 1.…
  • Same here. I LOVE cute shoes, and can never find them. Specifically, I want a pair of slouchy boots with a reasonable heel (I'm already 5'10''-ish) and cannot find them anywhere for under $100. Ridiculous. I can't wait til my feet shrink back a bit. :)
  • Ah, the great northland. My top pet peeves, because I try not to vent and be whiney. 1. People who say "You people..." because they are almost always being derogative. 2. Getting blamed for stuff that I have no control over. 3. People who don't help themselves, and get mad that I don't want to help them. 4. Cold weather.…
  • LOL. I'd have to be 7' even... I don't think I want to grow any taller though, or I'd really have to lop off some toes just to find shoes. Not even kidding, I wish I could do such a thing now.
  • Is it weird to say I love your chin? LOL. You look great!
  • yogurt too, like other people have mentioned. I don't even LIKE yogurt, but I have been eating it every day. (It's the slime factor I don't like, otherwise its ok)
  • LOL at that one. I kind of went the opposite way, but not too terribly. BUT I was eating crap before and now with all the vegetables and extra water, I am pretty sure its normal. What I think is that if you don't feel constipated or bloated, you probably shouldn't worry too much. If you do start to feel that way, you might…
  • bump up my post. -- so you can find it again. Kind of like a bookmark in some ways.
  • Food network actually just posted an interesting article to that effect. Here's the link: http://blog.foodnetwork.com/healthyeats/2009/11/24/how-to-not-overdo-it-thanksgiving-tips/?c1=soc:dishfb&soc=dishfb Makes a lot of sense to me. And good luck - remember, whatever happens, make time for yourself. Whether that is eating…
  • Good for you! I have the same goals, except no kids (someday, hopefully!). My inspiration for the future is my niece and nephews, who are very active. I wish you the best of luck, and hope you will find everything you need here!
  • BUMP. I am 5'10" and at almost 30 lbs down. I will have to take some pics when I get to that point! It is totally true about being able to hide your weight -- I hit 285 (hadn't stepped on the scale in a while) and nearly cried. I was even hiding weight from myself. The next day I found MFP. I am hoping my graduation…
  • You can get 100-cal packs of a gazillion different items. Just look for sales. Otherwise, someone on here pointed out that by healthy food in decent proportions, you spend less because the amount is less. If that doesn't work, just use the same principles you (might) use every day -- control portions and avoid…
  • Keep healthy stuff on hand - like pre-cut vegetables. Sometimes the convenience is the biggest factor. Plan snacks into studying time-wise. Take breaks from studying so you are not eating because you are bored (or your mind is exhausted). Get enough sleep. Good luck!
  • Sometimes low carb doesn't work for people... Especially if you are working out a lot, you might need more. What percentage of your diet does MFP set your carbs at? Try upping that by 5-10 and decreasing fat and/or protein to make up for it.
  • kashi also has more fiber than regular cereals :)
  • You're not a dumbass, because a LOT of people are confused on this topic. What I believe (<- that's a disclaimer!) is that if you eat more than you burn, you will lose weight. For myself, at a moderate activity level (because my job is a standing/walking all day job), I would have burned 2800 cal per day when I first…
  • Sorry. Either way it illustrates the point, I guess.
  • Parent. That's totally the Mom pose. :)
  • I agree with many of the posters here. When I was at my lightest that I remember (high school graduation), I was about 180 lbs, and wearing size 16 and the occasional 14. And I looked much healthier. For me, a "healthy" BMI is 174 lbs, so I am not planning to get lower than a 12 and will be happy with that. I only use the…
  • How was the yogurt/pumpkin? I make a pumpkin mousse that is fantastic and I love pumpkin. I force myself to eat yogurt because its good for me, but anything I can add to make it better would be great!
  • bump. Also, my friend has been into Bento boxes and stuff lately, and I just looked at them and realized it would be an awesome way to portion control your lunch. And really cute. :)
  • BUMP! So going to look for this!
  • Check out Hungry Girl's recipes on food network. I did an alteration on one of hers the other day (using what I had): 2 large portobella mushrooms 3 cups shredded zucchini 5.3 oz container nonfat plain greek yogurt 1/2 c chopped green onions 1 tea. minced garlic 1 c. shredded cheese (can sub any kind, I used cheddar) Take…
  • You could try Dreamfields pasta - it has the regular amount of carbs, but they make it so that you only digest a small portion of the carbs, therefore it might count less. Not sure how you would put that into the software though...
  • Bookmarked. Thanks!!
  • I feel the same way about the C25K. I really want to just get out, but am having trouble motivating myself. You can do it, and so can I! As for healthy foods: I have never used portobella mushrooms before, but I am making stuffed portobellas, an adaptation from Hungry Girl's Stuffed and Squashed Mushroom recipe on the Food…
  • I found that when I started logging daily, I would eat less because I knew the evidence would be staring back at me right away. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it might be a small contributing factor you're not aware of. Good luck!
  • Oops, didn't see the coffee in the original. LOL
