IMHO...you have not given the process a 100% of your attention and i think your results show your effort you have put in. For myself, when I do not log, I eat more calories and larger portion sizes. It took me a lot of years of yoyo dieting to realize that I will have to log for the rest of my life, because that for me is…

Great to hear you are going to do a charity ride. I recently did a two day ride for ALS and is was awesome. Things for you to be mindful are things like: getting on that bike as much as you can before the ride day. Shorts bits on a bike are find buy when you ride longer and you are not use to it, your backside will…

For me protein shakes are for when I am trying to make my goal of >100 grams a day and I am going to be short. Trying to get all that protein in with food sometimes is really hard. I just had 6 egg whites for breakfast and that is only 22 grams of protein and I am stuffed to the gills. I also is a very portable way to get…

Okay I am in, since we are a day late, I guess 15 for the day

Yikes I read this and just had to do them right away. Done and I am feeling the burn...thanks for the day challenge, makes for a great start of the day!

Hi, I am a gadget kind of gal and I have never seen anything that will give you real time monitoring for home or personal use. I am familiar with the ones that they have at the doctor;s office and I am thinking that is what you are talking about in terms of seeing HR in real time on a graph. I wear a HR monitor made by…

Hi, sorry to hear about your arthritis, it can be a bummer, I have had to deal with the same problems. I would encourage you to seek out a PT that has athletic training background to make sure your form is spot on. I know from the list of exercises you have listed, I can do with with good form and no pain and also with bad…

I have done this before races also. It works pretty well. I was having similar issues to yours and then after a many tests found out I was Celiac. So the 24 hours before a race and not eating the the things I thought were causing my GI issues and eating things like a plain bagel were really causing my GI issues. On race…

I have an Garmin 910xt and I love it...you can wear it for swim, bike and run. It has HR monitor option, cadence monitor option and a foot pod option. I use the Garmin connect website to track all my training sessions. I am a little bit of a geek with numbers, so I like it. I was not sure it was worth the cost, but I have…

Hi, I have never had that problem nor have I heard of anyone else having pain from gripping the weights. I assume you are talking about dumbells. You might want to ask a gym staff member or a trainer to take a look at what you are doing and see if it is a form issue. I do know that when I am tired I tend to grip the…

Good for you about committing to the gym. As far as walking on the treadmill. Walking fast with no incline is good. Walking fast with an incline is better, as long as you do not hang on for dear life like some people do. I have seen people on treadmills with the incline high and there are hanging on to the top of the…

The formula for max HR is a general one, and sometimes is not as accurate. If I use the formula my Max HR is 172. I have done threshold testing at the gym and my Max HR is 183....food for thought

Good for you on wogging again! I would keep in mind that the recommended HR zones are just general ranges and the only way to know what you HR zones are, are thru testing. I am nearly 50 yr old and my Max HR is 183 and my resting HR is 46, which means all my other zones are higher then the recommended zones for my age. I…

Garmin 910xt..the only way to go for me...you should be able to add a HR monitor and ANT stick to your 310... As for winter training, I ride until it is 28F outside then I am indoors at the gym on a spin bike and the treadmill. I have a trainer for my bike that I use sometimes in my garage...but it really is no fun at all.…

Hi, are you running or walking on the treadmill. If you are walking I do not think you are over doing it at all. If running, I would at least take one day off a week. I train 6 days a week with one day where I do nothing. Perhaps the slow weight loss is due to a small deficit of calories each day. You have to have a…

I just re read your post on the calorie burn that MFP says for a hour of running and cycling...that sounds REALLY off. For me to burn 800 calories in one hour I would have to work in HR zone 5 for the entire hour and then I would be near stroke levels!
-
Hi, IMHO the only way to get a semi accurate calorie burn is to wear HR monitor to take your burn. I both run and cycle. I burn more per hour running then I do cycling on flat terrain. If there are hills involved that changes everything. In an hour running at 6 mph I burn about 650 calories. Cycling at 18 to 20 mph I burn…

Hi, I saw this post after I commented on your 10K post. I would highly recommend the Mercer Island Half Marathon March 23, 2014. Hilly course, but there is a walker wave if you are pokey like me! I ran in the walker wave because I was not sure I was going to make the cut off for the run wave. Hot Chocolate run is a 15K…

Congratulations on your upcoming 10K! It is normal to feel nervous, I have raced for about 6 years now and I still have butterflies before the race. Sounds like your training has been good since you have had a few runs longer then a 10K I would not train the day before you race, so you can have fresh legs on raceday. Start…

It depends on how far I am going to run in the AM. If less then 5 miles I will eat 100 Calories worth of almonds and a glass of water to hydrate. If I have a longer run I will get up earlier then I need to and eat a real breakfast. Remember most likely you have not eaten since the evening before and so your body is on…

Sounds like a good to me, Name: "HP" SW:142....This will really help as I have an event on Sept 22 that I would like to drop a bit more weight for. Thanks, looking forward to it

I guess I do not understand why you would not count them, You are already logging other foods in. There really is not such thing was "free" food. With the average banana at 110 calories and an medium apple at 90 calories, Even if you only ate one each, that is 200 calories that you would not count. Making your weight loss…

That is one of the most satisfying things with body marking at tri's when you can pass someone younger then you. Although I am pretty slow, the jets will come on when I see someone younger then me ahead, I just can not let the opportunity go by not to pass them... But then in Triathlon, the first place medal and the last…

It is a choice, either you do or you don't with less then healthy foods. All calories are not created equal. 100 calories of kale vs 100 calories of a pop tart. The kale has by far more going for it with the nutrients, fiber and protein. The pop tart, carbs, sugar and more sugar.

Good on your for getting into your 38 waist jeans!!!! BTW you are living on the wild side...cheese!

All things in moderation is what I have learned. Eating 2 bags of low cal popcorn is just as bad as eating a couple cups of buttery popcorn, Regardless of the good for you bad for you...moderation

6 egg whites, coffee, and juice made with kale, cucumber, apple, celery

All I know is if it were easy we would all be thin and fit! What has helped me is having friends here at MFP that have access to my food diaries. I log everything for good and bad. Friends have made me accountable for what I am doing and are willing to call me out when eating snickers bars for breakfast was not the best…

I have use a Timex HRM that is water resistant and it works well. I want to upgrade to a Garmin 910xt...but I will have to save more nickles before I get that one

I love how you have added exercise as part of your lifestyle. I actually like to go to the gym, and find it really strange others will only go to the gym for the purpose of weight loss then stop when they make goal, and eventually gain it back. You have to like what you do
