  • Songbyrd, something I have been wondering about this topic also. I know that if in starvation for long enough, the body will have to "eat" something, but before it turns to organs, wouldnt it take fat first because it knows that stored fat is less necessary than an organ?
  • I dont agree that everyone still craves it. I dont. It occasionally enters my head for about a third of a second, and then its gone.
  • With only 5-8 cigarettes a day, you would be able to cut down and quit SO easily. You really wouldnt need to take a drug to help you. I was a 20 a day smoker and quit cold turkey about 3 years ago now. It really wasnt that bad.
  • I agree too. Have you ever seen the difference between an egg thats cage, and egg thats farm? Its quite amazing. The yolks are heaps bigger and a much darker yellow.
  • I can understand why you're angry with his response and his head obviously isnt in the right place right now, from what you've said. I probably would have handled it a different way though - I wouldnt have complained to a person who I knew wasnt in the best frame of mind, I would have gone to someone else, or sent an email…
  • Well, interestingly...i love working out, but I have done some research on this recently, and quite a few studies have found that only 20% of weight loss success is contributed to exercise (compared to 80% due to calorie restriction). Now...before people get carried away - I agree that with exercise not only do you become…
  • I have this to and I have thought about it alot and I think it may be because we are losing weight slowly, so you dont appreciate what you look like now compared to then because you dont notice the day-to-day. (Sort of like you dont realise that your child has grown so much until they put on their jeans one day and they're…
  • I believe that the links I provided did give indications of the levels of protein that were acceptable. I have seen another post where someone said that 1 gram per lb of bodyweight was normal (they were obviously confused with kg. I didnt offer my recommendations of how much protein, I simply posted credible websites and…

  • It depends how over on protein you are. For some reason there's a way of thinking thats developing that excess protein is fine, and its not necessarily true. Excess protein puts strain on the kidneys and can create lethargy and bloating. Theres plenty of info on recommended levels from lots of different countries on…
  • I have read your blog and I can absolutely relate! My sister was always VERY skinny, and even though I was slim, I felt chubby, and my Mum has always (and still does) say I have a bigger frame. Now this is very frustrating, because I know I dont. My body changed heaps when I was 20, and I did alot of walkin, but didnt do…
  • Weight Watchers bacon is awesome! Its got so little fat in it that you dont get that sick feeling afterwards. YUMMY!!!
  • Well how hilarious! I ate almost 1800 calories yesterday (and for the first time in ages, Fetta and Camembert cheese played a big part), went for a 60 minute walk at a brisk pace (apparently only 216 calories though) and LOST 100grams!! Now I know 100 grams is very minimal, but considering....I was very surprised!! Roll on…
  • Thats what I was going to say. People dont put in incorrect information on purpose - that doesnt make sense as it would be wrong on their daily calorie count also. Even the difference between eg. Cadbury's in Australia and New Zealand (i am in Aus) are quite different. You can always put in your own info if you wish.
  • Ok, I have been stuck for a few weeks now, so I have decided to up my calories. I am nervous to do this (as everyone is) but MFP has set my goal at 1360 cals (at .5lb per week), but I am not sure thats enough? So I was thinking to eat almost my maintenance calories on the days I work out, and then 300 cals or so less than…
  • Thanks for this - I was going to ask the same question, but your BMI and mine are really close. I have increased my calorie intake to what MFP suggested on .5lb per week, but its 1306 cals, and I know that is probably not enough either. I was thinking that if I eat almost maintenance on the days I work out, and then 300…
  • I am thinking of buying one too, I would be interested to hear how your "all-day" wear went.
  • Weight watchers has some "free" vegetables, but not fruit. Free veges include broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, celery, capsicum, carrot and a few others I cant think of off the top of my head. Not potatoes, peas, corn. In order for the veges to be "Free", they have to be fresh, not frozen and packaged. Eg. one…
  • Yep, I do both too. This wasnt working for me so I tried WW and lost 7 kilos in about 9 weeks. I have slowed down in weight loss now (i am 55kg) so I am doing this as well, as I wanted to eat more points and know how much that was in calories. Saying that 50 calories is one point is not really accurate, as it depends on…
  • Some people really benefit from eating their exercise calories, and I dont think you did that today, as you are still 300 or so calories under. You might also still need a top up of water if you did such a lot of exercise in that heat? Just suggestions.
  • Was watching Oprah today and it was a Dr Oz show, and apparently, a diet that is high in calcium also excretes higher levels of fat. Havent looked any further into it yet, but I thought it was quite interesting (and a great justification for us cheese lovers! - lol).
  • I know that apples contain Sorbitol, which is a natural non-stimulant laxative, so I wouldnt avoid those.
  • Not me. Doesnt make any difference. But whether I drink it or not, I still drink the same amount of water.
  • HAHAHA! Me too!!
  • I can resist anything except Potato Chips!! If they are there, I'll eat them!
  • Umm...as a professional, this previous comment is NOT the right advice. Do you have any idea how phobias are formed? This is a really good way to start one. Tamtastic - your son is at an age where he is starting to understand things, and realise consequences. The nail thing is because he knows understands what scissors or…
  • I'm not sure what you are going for, but I went to have my Resting Metabolic Rate tested and I highly recommend it! I was sure they were going to tell me I had a slow metabolism and thats why I was struggling to lose weight, but I was quite a bit higher than average (1415 calories at rest). If thats what you're going for -…
  • I just quickly googled OCD support groups and there are so many. I dont know where you are (i'm in Australia) but I am not sure why you are finding it difficult to find help; are you maybe looking in the wrong place? A medical doctor wont be able to help you because it is a psychological condition, but there is treatment…
  • If you make a meal that consists of mostly low glycemic ingredients and the add say, a potato, (which is high glycemic) it will still make the meal and low to medium glycemic meal. http://www.glycemicindex.com/ This is the official website and has heaps of information and you can type in foods to get the glycemic index and…
  • Yes your body will still freak out! If you know that you are under 1000 calories, why would you eat vegetables for breakfast instead of say, porridge or some toast? The problem with eating that little, is that once you figure out its not working and you are harming your body; when you start eating the right amount, your…
