  • As I'll be working from home until at least 2nd December, I'm taking the opportunity to run in the light. It means I can get out a bit later first thing as I don't have a commute to take into account, or run at lunch. I need to think about getting some strength work in as well, but still working up the motivation! I use…
  • Just to add, this is the only calorie adjustment - I’m not logging any additional exercise.
  • My Anova sous vide has changed my life! The best way ever to cook meat and fish :)
  • How old is your baby? Are you breastfeeding? I personally wouldn't choose that diet if breastfeeding as it doesn't sound as if you'd be getting the right nutrients to support you and your baby. Your body would prioritise making quality milk but that could be at the expense of your own health, particularly if you aren't…
  • Are you making a broth or a blended soup? For blended soups, I add a potato, which really improves the texture, especially for less starchy veg. You only need a small-ish one, even in a relatively large batch.
  • You might be surprised. When I have had a day when I've eaten too much, my workouts tend to be much more enjoyable - more energy and all that!
  • I live and run in a hilly area and still have to walk the hills occasionally... the one on the final straight to my front door is an absolute killer! However, running on hills has been amazing for my fitness and I can run so much faster on the flat than I could when I lived in a flat area. So I'd try and do a bit of both :)
  • It depends on the hurt. I have no worries about working out with aching muscles (DOMS) but if I have an actual injury, I rest.
  • There are nut jobs doing all sorts of things, but breastfeeding a six year old doesn't make someone a nut job per se.
  • Mine adjusted pretty quickly although I didn't go back to work until he was 12 months old (thank you British maternity laws!). I agree that a lot of it would have been about comfort but that isn't to say the breastmilk isn't without nutrition - certainly not more or less so than cows' milk, which few people have a problem…
  • Do you have children? I breastfed until my child was two for a couple of reasons. Firstly because it's what the World Health Organisation recommends. And secondly because I was guided by my child and what he wanted, and that's the common theme among all the mothers I know. Did you read the article I posted above for a…
  • Hahaha I was breastfed until the age of almost 4 and have experienced no psychological issues. I know precisely zero mothers who carry on feeding their older children for their own benefit. Every one I know is more exasperated with it than anything else!
  • I do find it slightly odd that anyone would claim someone was breastfeeding a child for selfish reasons. It isn't fun! I made the decision to stop breastfeeding my toddler a couple of months after his second birthday as it was driving me mad and he barely needed/wanted it any more. But full-term breastfeeding isn't a bad…
  • I agree, I looked at the calorie counts and thought I could easily fit most of them into even a 1200 calorie plan (with the possible exception of the pizza, and I don't think the Krispy Kreme would be worth it).
  • I am seeing really good results with You Are Your Own Gym. There's an app and a book - the app isn't free but it isn't expensive (no subscription etc.) and I think it's worth paying for.
  • To add, recipe builder is great but if I'm cooking a recipe just for myself and using 'one onion' etc., I'll save it as a meal instead. It just makes it a bit quicker to change the calories rather than going into the recipe builder and editing the recipe. If you're cooking for multiple people or multiple portions, recipe…
  • I like to make up the quinoa and toss it with roasted aubergines (eggplants), tomatoes, peppers and courgettes (zucchini), lemon juice, feta and fresh herbs.
  • Before I started maintaining, I would bulk out chilli and bolognese sauce with lentils, which is really filling and makes the sauces really thick and yummy. Also has the benefit of saving a bit of money - I would use really good quality, tasty beef in it but about half the amount I normally would.
  • I'm sure you're right. I'm maintaining now but I'm also training for a half marathon and am very conscious of needing to fuel myself properly to avoid burning out, even if it means putting on a few pounds in the run-up to the event (I have a bit of leeway in my healthy weight range). Struggling a bit with today because I'm…
  • I can just about see a line down the middle of my abs having reached my goal weight (126lb/BMI 22.3). I've been following the You Are Your Own Gym bodyweight programme but I'm under no illusions that it's anything other than fat loss that has started to reveal the muscle; I've only been maintaining for a couple of months…
  • (I also didn't trim the excess fat from the lamb at the beginning) I am very keen not to come across as a fat hater here :D
  • I wouldn't normally, I'm totally not a freak about that sort of thing! I love fat! It would have been very, very greasy with all of it in though. It was per the recipe instructions (this one if you're interested) - not from any sort of mad diet recipe book.
  • I have various combinations of fruit with my morning Greek yogurt (banana, berries, peaches/nectarines, sometimes a selection of tropical fruit like mango, pineapple, papaya and passion fruit). I don't normally add anything to sweeten it but honey is a lovely option if you wanted to. Walnuts if you have the calories. This…
  • They will never go away but they will fade to practically nothing. I don't think products really make a lot of difference. I had a few from growth spurts then a LOT from pregnancy, but you can hardly see them now. I would say the majority of people (male and female) have them - my husband, who has always been slim, has…
  • I got a cheap Mpow armband which I've found comfortable and secure. I've found similar to @yirara that when I wear a belt, it has to be around my waist, which means if I have the bottles in it, it interferes with my arm movement. I do use one for my long runs when I need to take liquid/food with me, but I just don't find…
  • +1. A sturdy carrier like this would be ideal, but we always used our Ergo in a back carry.
  • Marinated chicken breast with some sort of "matching" rice - e.g. tandoori chicken with pilau rice; chipotle chicken with Cajun spicy rice; soy, chilli and ginger chicken with Chinese fried rice. I griddle the chicken (well I actually use my sous vide wand then finish it off under the griddle, but you can just do it all on…
  • I occasionally take a few weeks off caffeine just to make sure I'm not addicted and was off it completely while pregnant, except for a couple of cups of tea (British style!). I've never experienced any issues with headaches etc. When I'm not abstaining, I have a double espresso every morning and 1-2 cups of tea throughout…
  • I'm probably not explaining my brain vomit very well... Everyone has a BMI, if you eat more calories, you will have a higher BMI. With the appropriate number of calories you should be able to maintain any BMI that doesn't kill you. However, the number of calories that would work for you from a psychological/satiety point…
  • I guess you could test it by looking at BMI across the population? So if short people's BMIs tend to be higher (whether underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese, whatever), you could assume that they felt hungry on a proportionally higher calorie allowance than tall people. So for example, if 5'3 people consistently…
