If you are strength training with weights, that will be the reason. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the scale...they're just numbers. Throw in some cardio-biking/swimming/running/walking and that will help you loose inches. Aim for half your body weight in water. It's hard at first but you get used to it. After a half…

I suffered from a bad relationship and turned to food. I wanted a fresh start so I started to workout to loose weight and build my confidence in myself. Now I'm probably in the best shape I've been all my life, and I'm more happy and confident in who I am and what I can do! :)

As people mentioned...get fitted for some good shoes. That makes all the difference. Wear a knee brace. I'm on my 3rd time running, and have been running this time for over 2 years. I've worn a knee brace all this time until recently. It helps with pain, and now I can run up to 6 miles without one. I do a lot of exercises…

I dropped from 2000 calories to 1500 before exercise in mid-May. Since mid-May, I've lost almost 30 pounds. Now I have a goal of 1300 before exercise which is a hit or miss. However I burn a lot through strength training and running. For breakfast, I eat a 1/2 Cup oatmeal which fills me up. To drink more water (I shoot for…

I'm from Texas so I know about heat! Hydrate hydrate hydrate. I try to aim for half my body weight in oz of water a day. Day before a long run or a half, I drink Gatorade as well. Also, slow down pace. Summer running isn't about getting faster. It's about getting your body ready for the fall when you can practice speed…

Something happened and I don't see half my message! :| Running is addicting. Once you achieve goals you go for bigger goals. If you need a running buddy, feel free to add me.

You rock! I started on the treadmill and look at you! Doing hills!!! Kudos!

Training for a half can be done in a couple of months. (I've done 10 of them and a member of Half Fanatics) One nice thing about any race is you can always walk if needed! Just start small and easy. Maybe even start off walking. If it hurts, stop! Congrats on your weight loss! Such a great accomplishment!

I remember when I was in middle school and had to be on cross country. Hated it...didn't like to run at all. Now, I'm excited to get up at 4-5 am on weekends, meet friends, and run several miles! I must be crazy!

Hi and Welcome to the community! 30 pounds is very doable! You can do it! :)

Running outside is different from treadmill running. When I first started running outside I got outta breath faster. Definitely look into getting fitted for shoes. That will help a lot, especially with shin splints. Try doing intervals. 2 min walking 3 min running. (You can change the numbers but keep it the same for your…

12 isn't bad at all! When I'm running halfs I do a 12:30. When I ran my first 5k and 10k, it was 13:00. I'm incorporating hills and speed work to help me become a better and faster runner.

Definitely go get fitted for running shoes. Having the right shoes makes all the difference in the world!

I love love love Newtons!! Yes they will hurt your calves at first, but they are awesome! They teach you the right way to land (non heal strike). The ones I have now we're last seasons and they were $50.00!

I have the Vivoactive for my runs and love it!

Hi amybugfit! Welcome!! I love seeing a goal of running a half!! Totally doable! I'm a runner as well. Just completed my first full marathon this year!! Sorry I don't live up in Portland, I'm in Texas, otherwise I would suggest we can go run!

It depends. I would say on average around 400 calories. Weekends it's more because I do my longer runs and races that time.

Hi! I would be willing to mentor someone. A little about me. I'm 32, and have come a long way since I was 300 pounds. I've learned a lot about myself and what I'm capable of doing. I run. I lift weights. I like to inspire people. Am I to where I want to be? No. I won't stop though and I won't give up! I like seeing people…

I was bad today...1600 calories but I'm staying positive. I'll walk more at work, and I'm hitting the gym tomorrow after work!

I sometimes use map my run. I've been using Nike+ lately, and my Garmin!! So awesome to see you want to run a half!! I just completed my 10th and I love that distance!!

I'm eating about 1,000-1,500/day. I try to work out-run several times a week. I've lost 5-6 pounds this week just by cutting portion sizes and watching more what I eat. You can definitely do it! Eat 5-6 times a day-small meals, and drink half your body weight in oz. It will fill you up and won't be as hungry as much!
