  • Go see a doctor. Please. I am 50 and last year I lost 25+ pounds - my joints feel better than they have in years. Losing weight has helped them tremendously. So please go rule out any RA or autoimmune issues.
  • Do you use a food scale for everything?
  • I was lazy and ate more calories than I burned. It all boils down to lazy for me.
  • Open your diary for some honest feedback. Otherwise, weigh every single thing you consume and log every single thing you consume. Great food choices may be a good starting point, but knowing how much you are eating of the great food choices is key to losing weight.
  • If I got a discount on said Spanx, I would love the partnership ;) Seriously, though, it depends on how it is worded. I know that some airlines encourage Spanx for their flight attendants but do not require Spanx. I don't think it is body shaming if it isn't worded in a condescending manner and not required. I personally…
  • First off, you have to lose the weight for yourself - not for anybody else. Weighing food and sticking to your deficit will produce results. When I first started this, I logged accurately (with a food scale) and honestly. The important factor in my personal success was that I did not step on the scale until I had been at…
  • It has taken me six months to lose 30 pounds which was not my initial, impatient time frame. With that said, I have taken many mini maintenance breaks during those six months (still logging, but eating at maintenance). I am an emotional eater. Thankfully, my husband is very supportive and will suggest a walk or something…
  • I fear that trying to lose 40-50 pounds in just four months will be difficult, frustrating, and near impossible without feeling hungry and crabby constantly. That weight didn't appear in four months. However, set up your MFP profile to lose 2 pounds a week - knowing that some weeks may be more or less or nothing. Get out…
  • I suspect that it is a MFP issue. When I look at my fitbit dashboard, it is giving me my food summaries from MFP immediately, so fitbit is having no problem linking.
  • Guys lose weight so much faster/easier, it seems. My husband started on this journey with me and has, in four months, lost as much as I want to total. Neither of us are obese (clinically), but our son is getting married in January and I would like to love the wedding pictures, since they will be displayed forever. It is so…

  • I found this to be a very interesting video about weighing food. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjKPIcI51lU
  • Are you in maintenance or trying to gain? Are you losing weight at a rate greater than 1-2 pounds per week consistently? Are you hungry? If the answer is yes to those questions, then try some calorie dense foods like an avocado, etc. sometime during your day.

  • I find planking to be great for getting my core muscles in shape. One will not see ab definition until body fat is low. There is no way to "spot" lose or target areas where fat collects - it is still all about decreasing body fat. I have heard trainers mention that doing ab exercises to build ab muscles just naturally…
  • If they are breaded before they are fried, they will be on the higher end of the calorie range. If they are not breaded, they will be on the lower end of the range. Call today before you go and ask if their wings are breaded or not. That will give you a better guestimate.
  • Pictures don't lie. What you see is what others see. Pictures are my big motivator.
  • Pedialyte powder mixed in water. Drink it with two Advil before bed. If you feel extra yucky in the morning, drink another. The generic powder actually tasted better than the brand name stuff. Not exactly homemade, but you do wake up feeling like you cheated death.
  • I did a cold-turkey on my dietCoke, mostly to cut out the artificial sweetener. It was not easy, but after a couple days, the headaches went away. I still crave carbonation so I drink La Croix or low-sodium club soda. I still have an occasional diet Coke, but not several on a daily basis. I get my caffeine from unsweetened…
  • It depends what your goal is. If your goal is just to lose weight, then calories in/calories out should do the trick and you can eat anything you want as long as you routinely stay within your allowance. If you are looking to enhance athletic performance or enhance your look to the point of cut, visible muscles, then you…
  • I swear by cucumbers and melon in the summer for helping with my water retention. I get visibly puffy from sodium and heat. I keep sliced cukes and cut up melon in my fridge all the time.
  • 3 Floyds Dreadnaught Great Lakes Commodore Perry Rogue Dead Guy New Holland Mad Hatter O'Fallon 5 Day Ipa Bell's Two Hearted (I couldn't narrow it down to five no matter how hard I tried!!!0
  • Kudos to you for helping your kids get healthy along with you!! If you cook/bake at all, google oatmeal-banana muffins. My kids are tall, lean and athletic teenagers, but I still make big batches of muffins (replacing oil/butter with applesauce, subbing half whole wheat flour and such) and put them in the freezer. They can…
  • I am guilty of: 1. Going to the gym after work with my hair done and makeup still on. 2. Taking/replying to a text from my teenage son when he tells me he made it to a destination or taking a call from school to inform me that my kid is sick. 3. Pushing my limits, trying one set of incredibly heavy weight, and making a…
  • I see nothing wrong with asking somebody how many sets they have left on a particular machine. Polite and to the point.
  • I had been getting headaches/heartburn on a daily basis for what seemed like forever. Through process of elimination and diet tweaking, I linked both to diet Coke. I still drink coffee, so it wasn't caffeine. I still drink unsweetened sparkling water, so it wasn't the carbonation. I didn't want to give up my beloved diet…
  • Stuff it into mushrooms and broil!
  • To ease your way into it, try shopping only the perimeter of the grocery store ~ skip anything boxed or items with more than one ingredient. It takes a bit of getting used to and your food diary will be a longer list of items, but it is well worth it. Also, one big "no-no" of clean eating is artificial sweeteners. Check…
  • Thank you for sharing! I am troubled by the number of people here who bash others who are sharing information they have found. The purpose of these boards is to support and motivate. Not bash. If you disagree, use some class and do so in a civil manner.
  • I love a good, hoppy IPA. Try switching to a more satisfying beer so you drink less, maybe?
